How to install blinds on plastic windows. Installing blinds on plastic windows: mounting options, video instructions Methods for attaching horizontal blinds

There are many types of light-protective sheets, but they have common features. All of them consist of a metal tube-roller, or rod, on which fabric is wound: bamboo or cotton material. The length is adjusted using a chain that is attached to a rotating mechanism on one side of the roll.

Usually at the bottom of the curtain there is a steel or wooden weight bar that protects it from deformation, allows it to hang evenly and fit tightly to the glass. The latter is achieved using a pair of small magnets that are glued to the bottom of the frame and attract the weighting material, if it is metal.

You can take a more complicated route and thread a fishing line through the guides, which will hold the roller shutter during wind fluctuations and opening in the “window” mode. It must first be threaded into the upper fasteners several times so that when tensioned it does not pull out. Unwind it all the way and insert it into the special eyelet on the weight bar. At the bottom of the frame, attach small corners with holes for fishing line. Pull it there, tie it, cut off the excess.

Sometimes manufacturers install a spring inside the shaft. In this case, there is no need to fiddle with the cord with your hands to open or close it. It is enough to pull the plumb line located on the bottom bar with a little effort.

Dimensions

They are different. The length can reach 1.5 m. The standard width is 50 cm, but there are models 30 cm, 150, and more. Very small roller blinds, designed literally for one double-glazed window, are called “mini”. Sometimes they are hung together with ordinary curtains, especially if you need to combine two tasks: to shade the room as much as possible.

Kinds

Open

They are also called classic. The shaft on which the roll is wound is visible to everyone, but this does not spoil the interior. Moreover, there is a significant plus. The crossbar can be shortened if you have the right tools. The canvas itself can also be adjusted to fit the opening if you made a mistake with the dimensions or simply did not find the ideal option in the store.

Open structures are most often installed on small ones. Those that can be hung without drilling the frame have PVC clips on both sides of the top edge; they have holes into which both ends of the metal rod are then inserted. These clamps are held on fasteners that are pre-drilled to the wall with screws.

Models that require mounting directly on the frame can be mounted either with self-tapping screws or Velcro. The first option is the most reliable, but it’s not suitable for everyone: the warranty on double-glazed windows expires or you don’t want holes to remain on the crossbar after removing the decor. The second method is especially good for “mini” type products, which, due to their low weight, can be held for years on corner clamps that are placed on the open sash.

Cassette

They, like their open counterparts, come in different sizes, including “standard” and “mini”. You can also fix them using self-tapping screws or double-sided tape. They differ from the previous category in appearance: the textile roller is hidden in a compact plastic box located on the frame. And they are not attached to the wall above the opening - it’s clean. They cost more than the first type, but they look neater.

Cassette varieties, both with and without a spring, are mounted only on glazing beads, and not on the entire opening. They are particularly demanding in terms of measurement accuracy. Otherwise, the cassette will not fit or the rod will not be enough to “catch” the opposite edges of the sash. Please note that when unfolded they cover about half of the window sill. Therefore, if it is occupied by flowers or other decor, it is better to choose a system that is installed above the opening. Otherwise, it will not be possible to fully expand it.

Degree of transparency

The material for making roller shutters is most often dense fabric. It can be cotton, synthetics or mixed materials. The degree of transparency varies depending on the fabric. Based on this feature, three types of roller shutters are distinguished; they are presented in the table.

Relatively recently, an interesting variety has appeared, with the ability to regulate the degree of illumination of the room. It is called a day/night or zebra roller blind. These are two panels, each of which is assembled from strips of transparent and light-proof fabric. The strips move one relative to the other, either completely darkening the room or allowing access to the sun's rays.

The materials for making roller shutters are impregnated with special compounds, so they repel dirt, do not attract dust, and do not become electrified. The finishing of the panels can be very different. Photo printing has been especially popular lately, which allows you to create very interesting solutions for interior design.

Roller blinds for plastic windows

Installation sequence:

  1. We outline the locations of the fasteners.
  2. We drill holes, put the side clamps in place, and secure them with self-tapping screws.
  3. We put the roller with the cloth in place and close the plugs.
  4. We prepare the guides for installation, remove the protective tape from the self-adhesive layer. Lower the curtain by 20-25 cm.
  5. We place the canvas under the guides and carefully glue them in place.
  6. We install limiters on the chain mechanism or a decorative weight on the weight bar. We check the functionality.

Installation of cassette models

  1. First apply the markings.
  2. Using a level, adjust the “horizon” of the location of the roller shutter.
  3. Drill holes at the marked points.
  4. Using self-tapping screws at the top of the glass unit, screw the box with the roll rolled up inside it.
  5. If you don't want to make holes, use tape at least a millimeter thick. But first, work some magic on the markings so that the box hangs evenly.

Fastening roller shutters “mix”

Models that can be opened not only from the bottom, but also from the top are becoming very popular. We'll tell you how to hang them. Measurements are taken along the outer edges of the beads: both in width and height. This will be the perimeter of the fabric cut, and the whole product will be 26 mm wider due to the box. The package includes a fishing line that needs to be cut in half.

Installation sequence

  1. We stretch the end of the fishing line into the hole of each fastening and tie it with a double knot.
  2. Using self-tapping screws, we fix all four fastenings (a pair of lower and upper ones) to the glazing beads.
  3. We insert the line first into the lower bar, then into the upper one.
  4. We thread the free ends of the cable into the holes of both upper fasteners.
  5. Tighten the fastening clamp with a screwdriver, slightly tensioning the fishing line.
  6. We stretch the fishing line to the lower fastenings and fix it there.
  7. Trim off the excess cord.

That's it, the fabric cassette can move up and down, revealing the panorama of the street the way you want. The box can also be made motionless by screwing it to the frame through special holes. Whatever installation option you choose, remember that the control chain needs to be moved away from children’s hands if there is a child in the house. Install the holder for it at such a height that the baby cannot reach it. We invite you to watch a video on how to secure roll

Roller shutters are a good solution for any interior. They are practical, beautiful and allow you to effectively regulate the level of illumination in the room. Night/day roller blinds are especially good for this. For those who do not want to give up traditional curtains, we can recommend using them in combination with rolls. The result is very interesting and functional combinations.

Plastic and aluminum blinds protect the room well from the effects of bright sunlight, which is very important in rooms that are located on the sunny side: in offices and living rooms, where the glare of the sun can interfere with watching TV or working on a computer. It is also convenient that installing horizontal blinds on plastic windows with your own hands is simple and does not require special skills.

Installation Features

The standard kit usually includes brackets, all consumables (bolts and dowels or tape), as well as instructions on how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows. There is nothing complicated about it: first, brackets are mounted on the window, sashes or opening, and then a cornice is inserted into them.

There is no need to worry about how to properly install the lamella system on the cornice: the manufacturer has already done this for you. Therefore, the entire installation process comes down to just mounting the side brackets and takes a minimum of time.

Installation of horizontal blinds on plastic windows can be carried out with drilling, without drilling (using double-sided tape) and on drop-down brackets. The choice of method largely depends on where exactly you plan to secure them.

Where to fix the blinds

Before hanging the blinds, please note: manufacturers provide a guarantee for blocks with a width of 22 cm to 220 cm and a height of up to 250 cm. A smaller width does not make sense, and for a larger one it is recommended to use two independent blocks. Blinds for large plastic windows are also available for sale, but they are attached without a guarantee for the functionality of the structure.

How to make dimensions

Before installing blinds correctly, you need to take measurements. All subsequent installation and performance of the block system will directly depend on how accurately they are carried out. Instructions for taking dimensions are different for each installation location:

  • Inside window openings (suitable for cases where the window is located in a recess in the wall). It is important here that the slats do not touch the slopes when lifting and lowering. Based on this, we select the width of the block so that it is 4-5 cm (2-2.5 cm on each side) narrower than the window opening. The height of the entire curtain should accordingly be set 2-2.5 cm shorter than the length of the opening. To ensure that each sash can open freely when the slats are raised, a space must be left between the top edge of the window and the blinds.
  • Outside window openings (also suitable for cases where the window unit is placed in a wall recess). This arrangement makes it possible to cover the entire area of the opening with one wide curtain and, if necessary, darken the room more effectively. To do this, you need the width of the slats to be 5-5.5 cm on each side (10-11 cm in total) wider than the window opening, and the height of the entire curtain to be 10 cm lower than the window sill.
  • On window sashes (curtains open together with the sashes, suitable for the mini model). This method saves space as much as possible and leaves the window sill completely free. In this case, blinds to plastic windows must be attached so that they do not interfere with the rotation of the handles on the sashes and do not touch the window sill, but completely cover the glass. To do this, their width should be 1.5 cm on each side edge (only 3 cm) wider than the glass part of the window, and their height should be 1.5 cm greater than its length.
  • Outside the window opening (carried out when the window is located on the same plane with the wall). Since the handles on the shutters extend inside the room, in this case you will need a special bracket, which will make it possible to install fixed blinds at a short distance from the wall. In order for them to completely shade the room when closed, their width should be 20 cm wider than the window opening (10 cm on each side), and their length should be equal to or 10 cm greater than the height of the window.

How to markup

In order to prevent distortions during installation, before installing horizontal blinds on the wall above a plastic window with drilling, it is necessary to make markings. Do not forget to leave enough space above the window, otherwise, when assembled, the slats will interfere with the opening of the sashes.

We will need:

  1. Blind block.
  2. Bolts and dowels to match the bracket.
  3. Roulette.
  4. Level.
  5. Construction pencil.
  6. Drill.
  7. Hammer.
  8. Screwdriver.

Operating procedure:

  1. Using a level and ruler, mark each side.
  2. Place the bottom of the mount on the reference line, then mark the drilling points with a pencil.
  3. Mark the markings with crosses to better identify the drilling points.
  4. Drill where the dowels will go, keeping the tool perpendicular.
  5. Insert the dowels by hand and drive them in with a hammer.

How to hang

The hardest work is behind us. All that remains is to hang the horizontal blinds in place.

Procedure:

  1. We install universal brackets.
  2. By turning the latch counterclockwise, we secure the upper cornice to the bracket at a distance of 20 cm from the edge.
  3. Turn the latch clockwise until it stops.
  4. We insert the hook of the rotating mechanism located on the upper cornice into the control handle (relevant for models with a cord and a handle).

We check the functionality of the system: raise and lower the slats, rotate them at different angles, changing the lighting, check whether they interfere with the opening of the sashes. If all these manipulations were successful without any extra effort, the blinds are installed correctly.
In contrast to thick curtains, a lightweight slatted design made of colored plastic or aluminum painted in different colors ensures good air circulation while guaranteeing uniform lighting. With its help, you can easily protect your home from direct sunlight, and if the color and texture of the slats are correctly chosen to match the design of the apartment, they will highlight its advantages.

How to install horizontal blinds with your own hands in the video:

[Rated: 5 Average rating: 3]

Interior design often involves choosing window decor. Today, horizontal blinds are increasingly used for such purposes. Designs of this type are characterized by ease of operation and long service life. Installing blinds requires special skills, so a beginner cannot always solve this problem. If you do not know how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, be sure to consult a specialist.

Advantages

Horizontal blinds are several thin plates that are connected to each other by a thread. This allows you to control their location in different planes. Such designs come in several types, each of which differs in the material of the lamellas.

The most common modifications are blinds made of aluminum plates. This product has many advantages:

  1. The metal perfectly withstands temperature changes and is also not susceptible to destruction under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.
  2. The lamellas are light in weight, but at the same time have a fairly large margin of safety. They resist deflections well.
  3. They don't burn.
  4. The material does not accumulate dust, grease and odors. Perfect for both a modern office and a home kitchen.
  5. The service life can reach 20-30 years (with proper care).
  6. Relatively simple and quick installation.
  7. Easy to care for. To clean the surface, simply wipe the surface periodically with a damp sponge.
  8. The design takes up little space, which allows them to be installed in almost any interior.

Another popular type of horizontal blinds are wooden products. This product has the following advantages:

  1. The material protects the room very well from light penetration.
  2. The wood does not heat up.
  3. The products are environmentally friendly. They do not accumulate dust, which allows them to be used in the bedroom or nursery.
  4. Unique design. Lamels are made from various wood species. This allows you to choose a design at your discretion.

It should be understood that wood is afraid of moisture, so it is not recommended to use such blinds in the kitchen or other wet rooms.

Lamels today are also made from polymer materials. Plastic blinds have the following features:

  1. The quality of light protection is the best among all the models reviewed.
  2. Cleaning the plastic is quite easy. In this case, you can use almost all household detergents.
  3. The material tolerates moisture well.
  4. The service life is practically unlimited.
  5. The plastic construction is lightweight and small in size.
  6. Plastic tolerates high temperatures well. This allows you to install blinds even in swimming pools and bathrooms.
  7. Ease of use.
  8. Relatively low price.

But plastic is not a universal material. Blinds should not be installed near any heat sources. This can lead to deformation of the plates. Also, the polymer quickly fades in the sun and gradually turns yellow.

Mounting methods

Horizontal blinds are available in various sizes and modifications, which can be adapted to the specific characteristics of the window. Such systems can be mounted in various places:

  1. To the ceiling. This type of placement is only possible for solid foundations.
  2. On the sash. Fixation occurs directly on the window frame itself. Often, such options are found when small-sized blinds are used for each individual glass.
  3. To Wall. One of the most popular installation methods. It is used for structures that completely cover the entire surface of the window.
  4. In the window opening. Here, installation can be carried out directly on the base of the frame or on the ceiling of the slopes.

When choosing the location of blinds, you should take into account their functionality and design features. All these characteristics must be qualitatively combined with each other.

Preparation for installation and measurements

Installation of horizontal blinds is technically possible without specific experience. The procedure for marking the fasteners begins. To do this, the structure is applied to the future location and the locations of the brackets are marked. It is important that the system is positioned strictly horizontally.

If the products were sold disassembled, then the blinds should be assembled before marking. All such operations should be performed only on the basis of the manufacturer’s instructions. This will avoid distortion and possible damage to the elements during operation.

When marking, it is important to consider the location of the product. The mechanism should not interfere with the opening of the valves, unless, of course, it is mounted directly on top of it.

Installation methods

No drilling

Many manufacturers have simplified the installation method for horizontal blinds as much as possible. You can attach this structure yourself using the following fasteners:

  • Double sided tape. Fastening can be done either directly using adhesive tape or using special brackets. The last option involves fixing the fasteners using this tape. Please note that this installation option is only possible on the window sash itself. To obtain a reliable fixation, it is important to pre-degrease its surface. After this, marking is done. It is necessary that the canvas be positioned strictly parallel to the plumb line. If there is a misalignment, then this will lead to rapid wear of the control mechanism. When the entire system is aligned, you can fix the structure on the window.
  • Clamps. This option can only be used for opening doors. The installation process involves fixing the clamps directly to the cornice. To do this, you just need to put them on. After this, the sash is opened and these fasteners are hung on it. This is quite simple to do, as you just need to press the mechanism a little and it will click into place.

With drilling

A more universal way to install blinds is to use special metal brackets. With their help, you can mount products both on the wall or ceiling, and directly on the plastic window sash.

This operation consists of the following sequential steps:

  1. Initially, the location of the cornice is selected and markings are made.
  2. Forming holes. Please note that if you mark the places for them incorrectly, this will lead to skew. Since there is no need for extra holes in the wall, everything should be done carefully.
  3. Attaching the brackets. To do this, use special screws or anchors, which are often included.
  4. Installation of cornice. This element is fixed with special latches. This operation does not require significant effort.
  5. Installation of canvas.

It should be noted that this method of fastening does not depend on the location of the cornice. Here the only difference may be the type of bracket and the location of the latches on the surface of the blind frame.

How to hang it on a window opening?

The algorithm for installing blinds on a wall consists of several sequential steps:

  1. First of all, you need to determine whether all components are available. If the blinds have a width of more than 2 m, then they must be supplemented with intermediate fastening. This eliminates sagging of the cornice.
  2. The next step is marking. To do this, the blinds are placed above the window in the right place. Then they retreat from the ends by about 3 cm and mark the locations of the brackets.
  3. When all the marks have been made, use a drill to drill holes for the dowels. It is important to choose the correct hole diameter in order to form a strong connection between the fastener and the wall. If the structure is wide, then you need to drill a hole in the middle in a similar way for an additional dowel. Please note that for heavy aluminum or wooden blinds, the distance of the end screws must be at least 10 cm from the edge of the cornice.
  4. When the brackets are screwed, the cornice is hung on them. It can be fixed in several ways. The most convenient mechanism is considered to be self-latching locks. Simpler products need to be screwed to the frame using self-tapping screws or self-tapping screws.

The process of installing blinds in the opening itself can be described by the following sequential actions:

  1. Initially, the technical equipment of the product is checked. Pay attention to the size of the cornice. The method of attaching it depends on this.
  2. Assembly of blinds. The process is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Marking. To do this, the cornice is installed on the plastic window sash. Sometimes installation is possible on the ceiling of the opening or on the wall that is formed above the frame frame. When taking measurements, it is important to check whether the blinds do not interfere with the movement of the opening sashes. The mounting locations for the brackets are also marked on the base.
  4. After this, holes are drilled and fasteners are attached. You should not drill deep, as you can make a through hole. If fixation occurs directly on plastic, special screws should be used.
  5. The process ends with hanging the cornice and canvas. This process is similar to that described in the previous section.

If you are planning to do all the work yourself, without the help of a specialist, it would not hurt to first obtain complete information on how to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, so as not to get confused in the process, but to clearly carry out all the necessary steps.

This is why you are provided with these instructions so that no problems arise during installation. Be attentive and careful, and most importantly, do not rush, everything must be done with clearly controlled movements, especially if you decide to drill the profile of the sashes or window frame.

Materials and equipment:

There is nothing complicated here, as you will see for yourself, but it is worth following the necessary sequence, and for starters, at least acquire all the necessary devices and equipment, without which it will not only be difficult, but completely impossible to cope with the matter.

  • Themselves, previously purchased, unpacked and assembled as needed, are horizontal blinds that are exactly the right size for your purposes.
  • Hammer.
  • A tape measure no less long than the widest or highest point of the window opening.
  • A level with which you will need to check the horizontalness of the top cornice strip.
  • Pliers.
  • Pencil or marker for marking.
  • A set of screwdrivers, as well as possibly a special tool for tightening parts of the blinds.
  • Drill or hammer drill to make special holes for curtain fastenings.

Installation of horizontal blinds on PVC window sashes

With this installation method, the blinds are attached with small self-tapping screws (included in the kit) to the window profile. They must be installed so that they do not interfere with the handle turning. Be careful: if you drill too close to the bead, you can damage the glass unit. Therefore, in this case, correct measurements are very important.

Installation of blinds on a PVC window

Installation step by step

The procedure is as follows:

  • We install the fasteners on the cornice so that they do not interfere with the moving parts inside.
  • Let's try the product on the frame. We set it so that the lamellas overlap the drain frame and the right at the same distance.
  • Mark with a pencil or marker the place where the fasteners should be located. During this operation, you need to keep the cornice as level as possible. You can follow the contours of the window frame or use a level.
  • Although the plastic is quite soft and you can immediately screw self-tapping screws into it to prevent the frame from cracking, it is better to pre-drill the holes. The diameter of the drill is slightly smaller than the diameter of the screws. Usually the kit comes with self-tapping screws with a diameter of 3 mm, so you need to take a 2 mm or 2.5 mm drill.
  • We take the brackets and fasten them to the frame with self-tapping screws. Screw in the self-tapping screws
  • Insert the blind rod, pressing until it clicks.
  • We close the ends with the plugs that come with the kit.

Having to drill holes in a window frame can be intimidating, but it's no big deal. In case of incorrectly made holes, the unsuccessful ones can be filled with sealant. White silicone, not acrylic (acrylic quickly turns yellow). The performance of the windows will not be affected. What can be dangerous is getting into a double glazed window. Then it may crack. But this is not fatal either - it can be replaced, although it will not be cheap.

We install the lower clamps

But that is not all. To finally install horizontal blinds on plastic windows, you need to drill a couple more holes - for the clamps (also called anti-wind). These are additional fastenings at the bottom of the opening window sash. The lower edge of the blinds is tucked into them. They do this so that when ventilating, the blinds do not hang down, dangle in the wind, or knock over objects on the windowsill.

Don't hang out...

We install the clamps like this: we try them on, pulling the blinds down a little, mark the fastening points, drill holes, and install them. We tuck the bottom bar into the installed clamps. Now, even with a draft or an open shutter, the blinds will not dangle. The only thing you need to watch out for during installation is not to get caught in the glazing bead (this is a long strip that runs along the glass unit and holds it in place). It is necessary to drill a hole in the frame itself, stepping back at least 1 cm from the edge. Otherwise there are no problems.

No drilling

There is also a way to install blinds on plastic windows without drilling the frame. This method is only available for those blinds that are hung on opening sashes. In this case, they are simply hung on plastic mounts/brackets, which are placed on the frame from above. To prevent them from moving, a strip of double-sided tape is attached to the back of the bracket. After removing the protective film, you can glue it (but you don’t have to fix it).

The shape of the plastic fasteners depends on the type of cornice. So you need to select it specifically for each

These L-shaped plastic brackets are not included, but can be purchased at a store or company that sells horizontal blinds. This method is convenient by simply dismantling the blinds, which is convenient if they need to be repaired or washed.

Methods for installing horizontal blinds

Just like vertical blinds, horizontal blinds can be installed on the ceiling, wall, to each window sash or to the trim. Here you need to take into account two factors: the depth of the window and the width of the window sill. First, measurements of the windows are taken.

Installation diagram:1. When installing blinds in a window opening, the length of the blinds should be reduced by 2 cm at the bottom and top. When using the overlay method, you need to do the opposite - add 5 cm on each side. 2. Using tools, make precise markings of the places for mounting the fastening structure. Installation of fastenings is carried out using dowels and special screws. Experts recommend using 6×100 dowels for this. Everything is ready to install the cornice with all the elements and check the functionality of the mechanisms.

The installation of vertical blinds differs from horizontal ones in that special weights are attached to the vertical models from below, which should be tightened with a chain both from the inside and from the outside. The most optimal option for blinds is the option of attaching them to each window sash. The advantages of this method are obvious: compactness, preservation of mobility, ease of opening the window.

To install the blinds you will need self-tapping screws, dowels, a drill, a pencil, a tape measure and a level. If fastening is carried out using self-tapping screws, then plastic fasteners will be needed. But the most reliable way to attach the cornice is to install the structures with screws to the frame. If blinds are installed on plastic windows, then you can do without drilling. When installing blinds on non-standard windows, you need to use slats of a special shape and length.

How to measure

If you decide to hang the blinds yourself, keep in mind that you need to take proper measurements. This determines how convenient it will be for you to use them.

If you have chosen a vertical design, you need to know the dimensions of the window opening: height and width are measured from the mounting location.

The principle of measuring dimensions for the horizontal type is a little more complicated.

Mounting in a window: the length and width of the opening are measured. In the absence of a window sill, the length can increase to the floor.

Aluminum and plastic blinds can be easily shortened and adjusted.

For a working window, you can choose blinds in two halves. You just need to measure the height of the glass and add 2 cm to the top. The same principle is used for the width of the glass, only you need to add 0.5 cm on both sides.

In this way you can take measurements for roller blinds.

Advice! If the window does not open, this type of curtain can be installed right in the middle of the window.

By taking measurements yourself, you save your time and money, eliminating the need to wait (often at an inconvenient time for you) for representatives of window companies.

Mounting methods

Along with the blinds, manufacturing companies include fasteners, screws and instructions. Having carefully read it and armed yourself with certain tools, the installation process will not seem so difficult.

Before we start mounting, let's look at the methods.

Fastening without drilling

To easily remove blinds at any time and not leave marks on the window frame, walls or ceiling, use the following methods:

  1. Secure the bracket with double-sided tape;
  2. Attach the bracket to the top of the sash that opens, and the bottom using magnets.

Drilling installation

Do the following:

  1. Attach the cornice to the top of the sash and mark points for installation. It is advisable to pre-drill holes for screws.
  2. Attach the bracket, take the screw and carefully screw it in, securing the cornice.
  3. The fishing line holding the lamellas must be fixed. Drill holes at the bottom under the glazing beads; the fishing line should fit into the plugs that we insert into the holes.

Important! A separate curtain should be attached to each sash.

Installation with drilling is relevant for installing cornices in ceiling or wall areas. To do this you need:

  • make holes in the selected location;
  • hammer in a few dowels;
  • Secure the brackets with screws.

There may be differences in depth between the glass unit and the frame. Because of this, the fasteners sometimes do not completely adhere to the window. To eliminate this drawback, take U-shaped pads and place them (or several) into the resulting void.

Using brackets

The carrier from the blinds is fixed directly on the bracket, which allows you to easily detach it for washing and cleaning if necessary. If you decide to completely remove such curtains, this can be done quite simply. At the same time, the window remains impenetrable to wind and temperature changes.

You can secure the bracket with screws as shown below.

Methods for attaching the bracket without screws:

  1. Hook onto the top of the opening sash profile. This method will allow you to remove the bracket without effort at any time.
  2. Glue with double-sided tape.

Types of blinds

For plastic windows, compact horizontal blinds and more comfortable vertical blinds are chosen with equal success. They differ in the way they open, so in horizontal ones the door moves up and down, in vertical ones it moves to the side.

Classic horizontal models are made from lamellas, but now roller blinds, pleated blinds and Roman blinds, which also belong to this category of products, are no less in demand. Mostly they are hung only on windows or partitions.

The video contains photos of beautiful horizontal blinds in the interior

Please note that the video clearly demonstrates how to combine blind systems with traditional curtains, and also contains good examples of how to choose light-protection systems for various interior styles.

Vertical blinds take up more space, but they allow you to completely cover the opening and even the entire wall. This type is the most rational for designing large areas of glazing, long corridors, and openings of complex architectural shapes, for example, curved or arched.

The video below contains beautiful photo examples of various types of blinds.

Types of blinds and their differences

  • horizontal
  • vertical

Horizontal and vertical ones consist of lamellas (separate strips fastened together to form a structure).

Pleated

This protection consists of 2 guides, with fabric in the middle. During operation, the fabric gathers into folds, opening the sash.

Rolled

The principle of operation is hidden in the name; with the help of a mechanism, the fabric is collected into a roll.

Cassette

Cassette windows were invented specifically for plastic windows; the cassette mechanism is attached to the window sash; if desired, the canvas is completely retracted inside.

In order for blinds to serve you faithfully for many years, you need to fasten them competently, carefully and securely. Installing blinds, although a quick process, requires certain knowledge and experience.

Methods of attaching blinds differ from each other depending on their type, the material from which they are made and the type of window. There are plastic and wooden windows. Also, the method of installation on attic and non-standard shaped windows is slightly different.

How to take measurements correctly

First of all, the blinds must be the right size. To do this, you need to decide on the method of fastening. Methods can be divided into two groups:

  • Attach blinds directly to window frames. There are options here that involve the use of self-tapping screws and fastening the structure without drilling. In addition, you can install common fasteners on the entire frame or on each sash separately.
  • Place blinds on walls or ceilings. There are also several additional solutions possible here. – installation in a window opening, on the ceiling in front of the window, on the side walls. For each case you will need to measure your parameters.

If you plan to install blinds on several windows, you should measure each opening separately. Although it seems that the window openings are exactly the same, this is not always true. A discrepancy of 2-3 cm can lead to consequences that are difficult to eliminate.

If you plan to mount a vertical structure, it is necessary to measure the height and width of the window opening. You should be careful when measuring, since you can shorten slats that are too long, but adding additional elements to narrow blinds will be problematic.

To install plastic windows yourself, read the article:

If the model has horizontal lamellas, the measurements will be somewhat more complex. If the blinds are attached to the opening, you need to determine what the width and height are. The length of the canvas is selected at your own discretion. You can find both models that reach the window sill, as well as long options that reach the floor. If necessary, blinds with plastic or aluminum slats are not difficult to make shorter.

When installing directly on the frame, you will need to consider whether the window will open.

If the window is solid and does not open, you can measure the entire width of the opening. If the shutters will open, it is worth ordering a separate structure for each half of the window. Measurements should also be taken accordingly. Measure the parameters of the glass (width x height) and add 20 mm on top and 5 mm on the edges.

When designing blinds attached directly to the frame, make sure that they will not interfere with the operation of the fittings and will not become an insurmountable obstacle to its maintenance (lubrication, adjustment, etc.)

Mounting instructions

After you have taken measurements, proceed directly to installation. You will need: pencil, screwdriver, brackets, drill (6 mm drill), hammer, scissors, dowel and screwdriver. How to attach blinds with horizontal panels? This process is carried out in several stages:

  • step back 6 cm from the glass on both sides, mark the required place with a pencil, make sure that the line is straight, otherwise crooked curtains will not work well and will quickly fail;
  • using a screwdriver, make holes into which you will attach the brackets;
  • if the window opens, make holes in the upper part of the sash, but if the window is solid - on the outside of the glazing bead;
  • insert the blinds into the brackets, snapping them into place;
  • Make a hole for the fastener at the bottom or side of the window sash;
  • lower the blinds and check their operation;
  • If at any stage you have difficulty, watch the video, which shows in detail how this process occurs.

Installation of vertical blinds

To attach vertical curtains, use the following instructions:

  • Use a pencil to mark the brackets (they should be located at a distance of 10 cm from the edge of the cornice);
  • Having drilled a hole, insert a dowel into it and secure the brackets using self-tapping screws;
  • Install the mounting brackets and decorative panels on the cornice;
  • assemble the runners and secure the fabric in them;
  • Weights are attached to the lower part of the blinds, then a decorative chain should be hung;
  • install the decorative panel into the mounting brackets by inserting the end corners and side panels into its ends;
  • check how vertical curtains work using the control cord and chain;
  • watch the tutorial video to make sure you did everything correctly.

Fastening roller blinds

Roller blinds can be secured either with self-tapping screws or without drilling. The most popular are blinds that can be hung directly on the window sash. To do this, you will need double-sided tape, adhesive tape or liquid nails. This method is suitable for both fixed and operable windows. Do not forget that the frame must first be washed and degreased with alcohol. More reliable is fastening with self-tapping screws, which is carried out according to the principle of installing vertical blinds.

Blinds are a design that does not require careless handling and, if used incorrectly, quickly fails.

Installation of horizontal blinds

A huge plus of horizontal blinds is that they can be installed on plastic windows of any shape, even roof windows are no exception.

Installation on a frame is an ideal option for horizontal slats, allowing you to open and close windows separately or simultaneously.

To install horizontal slats, you need to stock up on a screwdriver, a screwdriver and marking material (chalk, pencil or alcohol-based felt-tip pen).

Having decided on the mounting method, proceed to the following steps.

Find out the dimensions of the window (measure the width and height).

  • If you are going to install blinds in the first way - in the window opening - you should subtract 2 centimeters from the height. This way you will achieve a result when the slats do not touch the window sill.
  • If you chose the third method - attaching the blinds with an overlay - add 5 centimeters to the width, but always on each side. In this case, the height is determined by the desires of the owner.
  • Installing blinds on windows (on each sash) is considered the simplest and easiest method of installation. The dimensions of the window must be measured taking into account the fittings, that is, so that they do not limit the window or touch it.

Remember: both plastic windows and blinds must function perfectly and efficiently

Therefore, it is very important to take accurate measurements before hanging them.

  • Unpack the blinds. Assess their quality, inspect for defects, and check the components. Everything is in place?
  • Place the blinds against the window. It is important that the body fits between the boundaries of the beads on both sides of the glass.
  • Pull the blinds tighter. They must be in the same plane as the window.
  • Assess the overall situation. The blinds should be located at the top of the transparent area.
  • Visually record the presence of a gap, which very often forms between the fastening elements and the window sashes. The size of the gap can be different and vary from a few millimeters to a couple of centimeters. They do not depend on the correctness of your actions; these are rather the costs of the design of the window and double-glazed window. Manufacturers foresaw the possible risk and, to correct the current situation, equipped the blinds with linings and special elements that allow them to achieve the required thickness and reduce the distance between the fastening elements and the window sashes.

Be sure to pay attention to the marks on the base of the linings. They can be of two types: R (from the English word right) and L (left)

Right and left application respectively.

  • Fix the gaskets until a tight clamp is established. Then secure them in the gap between the fastening elements and the window field.
  • Mark the fastening.

The geometric shape of the curtains is the main guideline for marking. Be sure to check that nothing prevents the window from opening and closing. Install an additional fastener where the cord is adjusted.

You can attach the blinds using one of two options.

  1. Bead fastening. A very delicate process that requires care in choosing the length of the screws. An incorrectly chosen length is the first step towards depressurization of the glass unit, the result is a violation of the thermal insulation properties.
  2. Attaching to a profile is a simple and safe process, but it requires care and clear actions.

Remember! The bead can always be replaced, the profile cannot.

  • Install the structure

Install the blinds using long screws. It is advisable that you use the self-tapping screws included in the kit. The aesthetic appearance of the window after installing the curtains depends on them. This step must be taken with great care.

  • Install the cornice, runners, slats

Place the decorative cornice on the mechanism and secure the plugs on the sides. Using a drill (diameter should be 3 millimeters), make a hole for the plastic “fungi”, they are located in the lower edge of the bead. This will allow you to install the guide line. After pulling it tight, secure it and cut off the excess.

  • Control step - checking the functioning of the entire structure

How to take measurements

If you decide not to use the services of a specialist, but to hang the blinds yourself, you need to take the correct measurements, since the ease of use of the curtains will depend on this. If you are installing vertical blinds, you will need to know the dimensions of the window opening. Measure the height and width from the mounting points. Be careful: shortening long curtains will not be difficult, but adding slats to curtains that are too narrow will not work.

Measurements when installing a horizontal model will be more difficult. If you are attaching curtains directly to the window, you will need its width and height. The length of the blinds can be chosen as desired: they can be up to the floor or cover only the window sill. If necessary, blinds made of aluminum and plastic can be easily shortened or adjusted using the built-in mechanism.

If the window is blind, you can fix the curtains inside. For an opening window, separate blinds for each half are suitable. In this case, measure the width and height of the glass, and then add 2 centimeters on top and 0.5 centimeters on both edges

It is important that the existing window fittings do not interfere with the functioning of the blinds. Using the same principle, measurements are taken to install roller blinds.

You can take all the necessary measurements and order blinds using these data. However, in this case you will spend more money than when purchasing standard models. To save money, find out in advance what the size chart is and select the appropriate fastening method. If you have difficulty taking measurements, watch the instructional video.

Alternative types of installation

It is not necessary to drill into the window to attach the blind base. There are other options for attaching blinds to windows. To install roller blinds you will need the following tools:

  • Double-sided tape;
  • liquid Nails;
  • scissors;
  • ruler or level.

Roller blinds are a smooth canvas that can be rolled up, raised or lowered using a special mechanism. Roller blinds do an excellent job of protecting from scorching sun rays, while at the same time decorating the living space. Let's look at how to attach roller blinds to plastic windows. This type of curtains is attached separately to each window sash. Roller blinds come in several types, and the mounting method for each type may vary.

Attaching roller blinds with double-sided tape

The Mini roller system is a classic roller blind on a compact shaft. They can be easily installed on individual plastic window sashes. The fasteners are attached without drilling, and thanks to this the frame remains intact. To prevent the fabric from sagging, the lower metal rail should be fixed using special magnetic holders. The window sash can be opened in any way.

Roller cassette curtains are roller blinds that are assembled into a cornice that looks like a compact cassette. This type of curtain is suitable for flaps, plastic or aluminum. The most popular curtain options are the Rollite and Uni systems. Models of these designs include strips for double-sided tape. Using these strips, the guides are glued to the window sash.

Cassette blinds are controlled by a single chain, with the help of which the height of the curtain is adjusted. A special clamp is installed on the window frame, which keeps the chain from sagging when the window is ventilated.

Isotra blinds

Isotra and Isolite systems are also popular. A plastic window with this type of blinds can be used in any mode without fear of breaking the system. Fastening is carried out using glazing beads, in which small holes will need to be made. If such glazing beads become damaged, they can be easily and quickly replaced at any time.

Interestingly, the method of attaching blinds to the wall is still used. This type of installation does not harm the plastic window; you just need to take the correct measurements.

Instructions for installing blinds yourself

The very first step is determining the dimensions. You can attach curtains to a window opening, wall, or ceiling. Having determined their future location, it is necessary to take correct measurements.

To secure the curtains to the opening, you need to take the following measurements. Determine the length - it will be equal to the height of the window glass with insulation (usually a strip of rubber) plus 1 cm.

The width is defined as the width of the glass, but taking into account the sealing rubber. Don't forget that the plastic window should open freely when the blinds are assembled.

If you are going to attach curtains to the wall, then please note that they must completely cover the plastic window. The width will be 10 centimeters wider than the window

The length, taking into account the cornice, increases by about 5 centimeters; its final size depends on whether the shutters cover the window sill or are located just above it.

When blinds are attached directly to plastic windows, the length will be its height and the width will be equal to the width of the window being closed.

We use the drilling method

You can fasten the structure using drilling tools, or do without them.

Let's look at how to properly hang horizontal curtains with your own hands directly to the window sash using the drilling method.

Since the curtains are attached with self-tapping screws, we mark their installation locations by placing the top bar of the blinds against the top window profile. Use a small drill to make holes and attach the brackets.

We fix the blinds and attach the fishing line that will hold the slats. On the lower part of the sash, again by drilling, we make two holes, placing them exactly under the upper exits.

We fix the fishing line in the structure of the blinds, fix the ends with plugs and thread them into the prepared holes, stretch the fishing line.

The drilling method discussed is usually used when it is necessary to hang rolled or horizontal structures.

This method is also used to hang vertical curtains. Holes are drilled at the fastening points and mounted using connecting elements.

We take measurements

You need to decide on the type of blinds (horizontal, vertical) and the method of installing them (on a wall, on a ceiling, in a sash window, in a window opening) before purchasing. And even before you start measuring. Because different installation methods require different sizes. Only with correct measurements will it be easy to install blinds on plastic windows.

For everything to work well, you need to take the measurements correctly.

Another important point: you need to measure each window separately. Sometimes it just seems like they are absolutely the same. Believe me, there is a difference. You also need to write down the measurement results and sign which specific window you measured and which sash it is. Accurate and detailed records will help avoid confusion during purchase and installation.

In the window opening

Although the appearance of the products is different, when measuring there is no difference between horizontal and vertical models. If you are going to install blinds in a window opening, you need to subtract 2 cm from its width on each side. You can subtract 1-3 cm from the height of the opening. Such gaps are needed so that the canvas hangs freely in the opening and the lower edge of the slats does not rub against the window sill.

How to measure when installing in a window opening

Please note that you can install blinds on plastic windows “into the opening” not flush with the edge of the opening, but deeper - near the glass itself or by retreating 5 or more centimeters from the edge. If the opening has a trapezoidal shape, the height/width of the opening will be smaller for the glass, so we carefully take measurements

And also, in this case, it is better to put marks for installation when measuring. Then you will know exactly where you will need to install blinds on plastic windows so that their dimensions fit perfectly.

On the ceiling or wall

Here the measurements depend on your desires. The length of the blinds can be up to the floor or just up to the window sill. Moreover, depending on the chosen type of installation, the slats can cover the window sill or not. So the length is whatever you like.

This is wall mounting. When mounted on the ceiling, the length will increase, but how much is up to you

The width of the blinds with this installation method is wider than the window opening. How much wider depends on your desire, but the minimum offset is 5 cm on each side. But if the window is in the same plane as the wall surface, you will need additional brackets, which are not included in the package: the slats must be placed at a distance of at least 5 cm from the glass surface so that they do not interfere with opening the doors for ventilation.

On the doors

When installing blinds on a multi-leaf window, there are two options - install one device on each sash or order one long one for the entire window. Usually the first option is chosen - it makes it possible to open and close the shutters with the blinds lowered. If you choose this installation method, you will need to measure each sash and record the results. The doors may be different, so be careful.

The option on the right is more convenient

The width of the blinds when installed on the shutters is taken to be 3 cm wider than the glass. When hanging, the lamellas overlap the profile by 1.5 cm. This is convenient and does not interfere with opening/closing windows. The length depends on the location of the fastener, but usually it is 5 cm longer than the height of the glass.

Once again we draw your attention: we measure each sash!

Varieties

Today, construction stores offer several types of blinds. Depending on the specific type, the features of fastening curtains change.

Horizontal blinds

You can find several varieties of horizontal blinds on sale. The lamellas in them are installed horizontally, which explains the name of the design. The thickness, width and type of material can be customized. The structure can be attached inside the frame, to the frame itself, to the slope or on top of the window block.

Horizontal blinds are most often installed in institutions

These blinds are installed in offices, production facilities and other places. These designs are universal - if desired, you can find horizontal blinds in almost any color and shade.

Vertical blinds

Due to their design features, such blinds are most often mounted on top of windows.. The slats in this case are oriented vertically and are made of plastic or fabric. There are varieties on the market that differ in the length of the slats.

Vertical blinds are mainly installed in residential areas

This model is most often installed in private homes, but they are also in demand in offices. Installation of vertical blinds is carried out using self-tapping screws. As an alternative, installation to the ceiling is practiced.

Roller blinds

Roller blinds are made of fabric, completely cover the glass, and if desired, they can be raised by rolling them into a roll. Installation is carried out using brackets, screws or adhesive tape.

Roller blinds can be installed without drilling walls and doors - using double-sided tape

The need for drilling varies depending on the type:

  1. Vertical structures are mounted on top of the window or under the ceiling. In both cases you will have to drill the surface.
  2. Horizontal blinds can be attached to the top slope or to the window sashes. Without drilling, such structures can be mounted on the sashes of a window block.
  3. The interframe analogue, as you can easily guess from the name, is designed for installation inside the window itself. This option requires drilling the largest number of holes.

Bracket mounting

  1. Taking into account the dimensions of the device, the places where the brackets will be installed are marked. The distance between them should be 55-60 centimeters. Avoid getting the brackets into the control mechanism, clamps and calipers.
  2. The brackets are attached to the ceiling, wall or window sash.
  3. Turn the bracket latches counterclockwise until they stop completely.
  4. The upper cornice of the product is inserted into the bracket, after which the latch is turned clockwise until it stops.

Drilling installation:

  1. Brackets are installed on the upper part of the sash, and plastic corners are attached to the lower part.
  2. Along the edges of the upper cornice, cables are secured in special bushings.
  3. The cornice is fixed to brackets.
  4. A cable is threaded along the edges of the lamellas through special holes.
  5. A second pair of bushings is installed in the lower brackets, through which the cable is threaded and secured with a screw.
  6. The mechanism is secured with a hook on the handle.
  7. The handle holder should be directed towards the sash.
  8. After installation is completed, you should make sure that the structure is working.

Installation of the structure without drilling using overhead brackets:

  1. Places for installation of brackets are marked.
  2. The brackets are secured with a screw.
  3. The structure is installed on the top of the sash and then secured with a key.
  4. Drop-in bottom brackets are attached to the bottom of the sash.
  5. The cables are secured in the bushings.
  6. The cornice is fixed to the brackets, after which the cable is threaded.
  7. Plastic bushings are directed into holes located on the bottom bracket.
  8. Use a screw to secure the cable in the bushing.
  9. The handle hook is attached to the control mechanism, after which the handle holder is installed.
  10. Finally, you need to check the operation of the structure.

Installing blinds inside the frame

It is possible to install inter-frame blinds on a wooden window of a paired structure or an old plastic one. To do this, the distance between the glasses must be at least 3 cm. Installing the mechanism inside the window is a little more complicated than mounting it on the sashes. In addition to attaching the bracket, drillings are required in the frame to provide control output for the rotary-lifting mechanism.

  • Drill two holes at the top of the inner sash (one above the other) in the profile from the side of the canopies - above the upper canopy.
  • Attach the inter-frame brackets to the upper profile.
  • Snap the blind curtain rod into the brackets.
  • Unwind the control cord and pass it through the lower hole and through the guide spring.
  • Pull out the flexible rod through the top hole.
  • Use a clamp to connect the flexible rod and the control handle.

How to properly install blinds on plastic windows

Just 10-20 years ago there was no choice of window coverings - only massive curtains and curtains were hung on the windows. Progress does not stand still, and in recent years new types of window curtains have appeared. The most popular now are blinds. In apartments you can often see a combination of blinds + Roman blinds and blinds + curtain. This method of curtaining protects the home from the sun, street noise and can decorate the window. Increasingly, instead of heavy curtains and blinds, compact roller blinds and blinds are used in everyday life. They fit much better with metal-plastic window frames. They are used in both offices and residential premises.

How to properly install horizontal blinds

  • What you need to install blinds effectively
  • Preparatory stage for installing horizontal blinds
  • Step-by-step instructions for installing horizontal blinds

The fashion for bulky curtains that collect significant amounts of dust in record time has already passed, so most people prefer to use light, airy fabrics to decorate the window area. To protect the window of a room from strong sunlight and curious passers-by or neighbors, horizontal blinds are increasingly being used.

Horizontal blinds are easy to use, which is why they are so popular.

It’s not difficult to figure out how to install horizontal blinds, but there are a lot of subtleties in this matter that need to be taken into account so that in the future the mechanism works correctly and fulfills its function. Blinds can be made of wood, plastic and aluminum, with the latter being the most common as they are extremely easy to use and can be installed on all types of window frames.

Step-by-step instructions for installing blinds

To understand how to install blinds on windows with your own hands, you need to consider their placement. For example, when using PVC brackets, you can do without drilling the frame. This solution allows you to carefully attach products with minimal time.

When installing using brackets (for large blinds), the work is carried out according to the following scheme:

1. Above the wall or frame where the blinds will be installed, a distance of 10 cm is marked. When marking, you need to use a level, which will prevent uneven installation of the elements.

2. Above the drawn line, the places for fixing the brackets are determined according to the width of the upper cornice.

3. Using the holes in the brackets, mark the locations for preparing the holes for the dowels.

4. The wall is drilled at the marked points and dowels are installed.

5. The brackets are fixed on the wall, the upper cornice and the blinds assembled according to the instructions from the set are installed in them.

6. Insert the control handle into the hook of the rotating mechanism located on the upper cornice (relevant for a design with a cord and handle).

7. Check the correct installation and ease of opening the window when the blinds are fully folded.

In addition to these instructions, the video attached to the article will also help you become more familiar with the installation details. Expert tips and an accurate description of each step will allow you to complete the job without errors.

Installation instructions without drilling

To install blinds without drilling with your own hands, you do not need any tools or even skills; it is important to correctly calculate the width of the canvas and attach it evenly to the surface. . For clamps

For clamps

Installation on special brackets-clamps is perhaps the easiest way to hang blinds with your own hands, but this mounting option is only possible on an opening window sash:

  • assemble the cornice and canvas according to the manufacturer’s instructions;
  • put clamps on the cornice, check that they do not touch moving elements and do not interfere with the movement of cords and chains;
  • attach the cornice to the sash, mark with a simple pencil where to hang the brackets;
  • unfold the canvas, check whether it touches the protruding elements of the window; if necessary, the curtain must be adjusted to size: cut to width and shortened;
  • unclip the clamps from the cornice, open the sash and put on the brackets according to the marks, make sure that they are tight and level;
  • You can fasten the curtain rod and the canvas to it.

The diagram shows one of the options for hanging blinds without drilling

On tape

If you are looking for a simple and at the same time reliable way to hang blinds on a plastic window with your own hands and not damage the profile, then the option of mounting with tape is the most optimal. Here it is important to glue the cornice correctly so that the canvas hangs straight down, without distortions, otherwise there will be unsightly overlaps and gaps on the sides and bottom, and in the end the blinds will quickly break.

Installation steps:

  • assemble the blinds according to the attached diagram;
  • try it on the window, if necessary, cut it on the side and along the length, taking into account that the minimum gap between the panel and the protruding elements of the window is 5-10 mm;
  • mark the extreme points of the cornice;
  • draw a line between them, ideally it should be strictly parallel to the window sill;
  • if the geometry of the opening is not ideal, make a plumb line from a rope and a weight, attach it to the marks, mark the side lines where the edges of the canvas will go, and straighten the line along which the cornice will be glued, it is better to have a slight distortion at the top and bottom than ugly gaps and overlaps on the sides;
  • wipe the place where the cornice is fixed with solvent or acetone;
  • remove the protective film from the double-sided tape and glue the cornice strictly along the line;
  • check the operation of the canvas; if it catches somewhere, then it would be correct to remove the system, clean the installation site and re-glue it.

Sometimes the tape is not glued to the cornice, but the kit comes with special fasteners with a magnet or hooks. Installation of such a model occurs according to an identical scheme described above.

The video clearly demonstrates that even a child or a woman can glue blinds with tape.

Where to install

Installation of horizontal blinds is mainly carried out on:

  • casement windows;
  • upper frame profile;
  • on the upper slope of the opening;
  • less often on the partition, if the design features of the opening or the design of the room require it.

Installation of vertical blinds is impossible for technical reasons on the sash or window frame; they are usually mounted on:

  • upper wall;
  • ceiling;
  • horizontal slope of the window, if its width allows.

Installation Features

Compact and lightweight, horizontal blinds can be mounted without drilling. To do this, use special brackets made of metal or plastic, as well as double-sided tape.

All models that need to be installed on a slope, in a pier or on the ceiling are fixed on special brackets that are attached to the surface with screws or dowels.

In order not to redo the work when installing blinds with your own hands, it is better to once again check and double-check the geometry, how the canvas will go, whether the cornice is skewed

Required materials and tools

Now let's look at fastening with self-tapping screws. This is a much more versatile option that allows you to hang almost any model using any mounting method (on the ceiling, in an opening or on the walls).

First of all, you should pay attention to the quality of the fastening elements included with the blinds. Sometimes manufacturers (this statement especially applies to cheap Chinese-made models) include too short and thin self-tapping screws made of low-quality steel into the kit.

If you plan to attach heavy structures to the ceiling, it may be worth purchasing something more reliable.

Also for work you will need:

  • Measuring tools: pencil, ruler with bubble level, tape measure.
  • Drill. The drill bit for the drill is usually #6.
  • Dowel and hammer.
  • Brackets for mounting (usually included with the product).
  • Scissors.
  • Screwdriver.

Having prepared a set of tools for work, you can begin.

Installation of horizontal structures

To install horizontal products on plastic windows without any problems, you need to prepare a screwdriver and a screwdriver in advance. In this case, the upper part of the product should be placed on the brackets. Mark in advance the places where you will need to screw in the screws. Try to have as few fasteners as possible, of course, without compromising the reliability of the fixation.

After all the measurements, remove the brackets, and using a screwdriver, sequentially screw the parts into the marked places. It is necessary to check whether all the clamps are holding and that they are not bending under the weight of the structure. Fabric blinds are attached without screws. They are also fixed using brackets, but they are glued to the profile.

Vertical blinds are installed in a similar way. If installation to the ceiling or slopes is chosen, then special slats are first installed. This is also done using screws. Then everything goes according to the usual plan with brackets. But if you are attaching blinds to the wall, you first need to install a special curtain rod. Also, unlike horizontal models, vertical products also need to be assembled. But they are sold complete with instructions, so you can cope with the task without any effort.

First, collect all the runners, turn them right side towards you. Then the slats are inserted into the runners. You will know that the parts are connected by clicking. It guarantees a tight seal. Special weights are inserted into the lower part of the lamellas, secured with a chain. You can test the blinds and their operation directly on the floor before installing them on the wall. Otherwise, you will have to remove them again and fix the lamellas better. The mechanism of vertical blinds should work smoothly and without any jerks.

With the advent of relatively inexpensive blind systems on the market, the fight against the sun's scorching rays has moved to a whole new level. Instead of reflective and tinted films, coated glass and all other nonsense, it became possible to mount blinds on plastic windows once and use the simple but very convenient device for the rest of your life. There is not much work involved in installing protective slats, and the process itself is not particularly difficult; you just need to carefully read the instructions for attaching blinds to plastic windows, and determine for yourself the most comfortable option for placing the fasteners on the window frame.

How blinds work

According to the designers, no matter what systems are chosen for completing metal-plastic windows, they look much more elegant framed by blinds than in combination with traditional curtains and curtains. The exception is fabric screens and roller shutters, which are quite suitable in design and appearance for any type of curtains. On the other hand, vertical blinds, which cover not just the glass, but the entire window opening, can hardly be considered comfortable for the home. Unless, of course, the interior of the apartment is made in an office style.

The design of blinds consists of four main elements:

  • Long horizontal strips or lamellas that can rotate around their axis and thereby change the degree of darkening of the window opening;
  • Suspension systems, as a rule, are several vertical nylon or propylene lines threaded through holes on the edges of the slats;
  • Curtain strips with fasteners that hold the blinds in a fixed position on the plastic window;
  • The control system is most often made in the form of two cords or a plastic rod attached to a small metal fork of the curtain rod.

In order to close the blinds on a plastic window, in the first case you just need to carefully pull one of the cords. Controlling the blind slats using a rod is even simpler - you just need to turn the rod a few times to close or open the slats. Of course, for normal operation it is necessary to firmly fix the brackets or the cornice strip, and only then check the functionality of the slats.

For your information! All inexpensive models of blinds, despite the wide variety of shapes and designs, have the same drawback. The lamella control mechanism and fastening are manufactured with a minimum margin of safety.

Therefore, before attaching blinds to plastic windows, it is necessary to check their performance in a suspended state. The main thing is not to exert much physical effort during the first attempts to fix the structure on a plastic window and not to try to bend the fastening if something suddenly goes wrong.

In addition, often a plastic window is ordered and installed with one opening sash adjacent to the side slope. Therefore, before fastening the blinds, you need to install a limiter so that when opening the shutter wide open, the plastic window frame does not damage the fastening and slats. In this case, you can use the hint on how to attach blinds to plastic windows shown in the video:

Materials for making blinds

In most cases, the blind manufacturer suggests attaching the curtain rod to a plastic window profile or a glazing bead that seals the glass unit, so almost all slatted systems are quite lightweight. The exception is models with long lamellas or with a built-in automatic opening-closing system; such structures are best mounted on ceiling slopes or walls.

Most often, lightweight materials are used to make lamellas; the lighter the structure, the easier it is to secure it in the most inconvenient places:

  • Aluminum sheet profile;
  • Plastic stamped profile;
  • Sawn wooden planks made of bamboo or valuable wood species;
  • Planks made of pressed wood fibers with a laminated coating.

The most expensive and capricious material is wood, despite the very beautiful design and high price, such blinds, before being fixed, often have to be adjusted to the installation location many times in order to ensure uniform tension of the canvas. The most unpretentious and crush-resistant plastic slats.

Such blinds do not scratch plastic frames and are easy to wash and clean. In some cases, if desired, blinds can be secured between the external mosquito net and the plastic window. Aluminum blinds are considered the most resistant to sun exposure, so they can be mounted on the glazing of balconies, loggias, and large window openings.

Installation options for horizontal blinds

There are many ways to secure the curtain rod and blinds to a plastic window, but before choosing an installation option, take good advice - do not buy ready-made blinds systems in a store, market or showroom.

Advice! If you have the opportunity, order the production of protective fabric and fastenings from a specialized company.

  • Firstly, such blinds are of better quality than ready-made ones, and even if a defect is discovered, you can always solve the problem by repairing or returning the product.
  • Secondly, specialists from such companies often develop their own versions of curtain rods, which are much easier to attach to plastic windows than Chinese consumer goods.
  • Thirdly, such salons hold free installation promotions, so that when ordering blinds for several plastic windows, you can install them completely free of charge and with a guarantee.

You can attach blinds to a window in the following ways:

  • By inserting supporting brackets into a plastic or wooden frame using self-tapping screws;
  • Glue the cornice strip to the plastic using PVC glue or secure it with double-sided tape;
  • Hang the blind track on the opening sash using aluminum hooks.

In the latter case, the hooks are simply placed on the upper edge of the window, without any additional fasteners.

Before ordering, you only need to measure the size of the future canvas using the bead of the plastic window, since each apartment has its own window opening size, and, accordingly, the height and width of the glass will also differ.

Self-tapping installation

Before attaching the support bar to the plastic window, you just need to attach the assembled blinds to the top crossbar of the frame to make sure that the delivered copy fits your plastic window.

At the second stage, carefully remove the metal brackets from the curtain rod of the blinds in order to secure them with self-tapping screws on the plastic profile. It is necessary to choose the position of the fastener so that the lower edge of the bracket is in line with the bead. If the window was installed by professionals, then the conditional line between the holes for the screws will exactly correspond to the horizon. Otherwise, before fixing the brackets with self-tapping screws, it is better to once again make sure that the choice is correct using a building level.

Some craftsmen believe that it is best to secure the blinds with glazing beads; they are easier to change than to repair the plastic window profile. But the glazing beads are not always fastened rigidly enough, so over time such fasteners may simply fall apart.

In order to secure the bracket to the plastic, one self-tapping screw is enough. We pre-drill holes with a 1.5-2 mm drill and tighten the fasteners with a screwdriver. Drilling is a must; often old, dried-out plastic or wood would develop transverse cracks when trying to screw in a self-tapping screw without drilling.

In a similar way, you need to secure the lower plastic brackets; they are used to tension the blinds. On the upper eaves strip you need to install plastic “cheeks”, with which the entire structure will simply snap onto the previously installed mount.

On the bottom bar, secure the axles in the holes of the plastic fasteners. All that remains is to put on the side plugs and connect the lamella control rod.

To drill or not to drill a window frame

Owners of brand new plastic windows do not always have the fortitude to drill holes in order to secure the bracket. Old profiles and wooden frames are drilled without hesitation, but new windows are such a shame. Anyone who has ever tried to attach blinds with their own hands notes that aluminum fasteners always leave marks on the delicate plastic surface of the window.

In this case, you can attach the blinds to a plastic window without drilling, using double-sided tape, PVC glue or cyacrine. The easiest way to attach the glue to the plastic surface of the window frame is with tape. The adhesive surface, treated with a modified rubber adhesive mass, can withstand loads of up to 50g/cm2. The weight of the structure is just over 300 g, so a narrow strip of 50x2cm is enough to secure a load weighing almost 5 kg.

There are plenty of double-sided adhesive tapes on the market, and there are also those on which it is impossible to attach not only blinds, but even an ordinary calendar, so before installation you need to check the strength of the adhesive tape on any plastic surface. Sometimes the kit comes with brackets with an adhesive layer applied on the back side. If the purchased blinds belong to a well-known manufacturer, then you can try to secure the bar using standard fasteners. But most craftsmen prefer adhesive tape, as it gives an order of magnitude higher strength, video:

Initially, you will need to mark the mounting height of the top bar and clarify the horizontal position according to the building level. All that remains is to carefully stick a strip of tape on the back side, carefully smooth it, remove the protective film and secure the blinds to the plastic surface of the window. If you need to glue an aluminum cornice strip, then before sticking the tape you need to carefully degrease the metal using a solvent or acetone.

If you need to secure the blinds to the opening sash, it is best to use a set of special overhead hooks or clamps. It is enough to install a couple of such clamps on the upper edge of the window, and you can immediately fix the bar with the blinds. Sometimes the clamps are made with an additional adhesive base to avoid the plastic bracket moving away from the window profile.

Conclusion

Any mounting option is designed for a long service life, but if for objective reasons you have to remove the blinds, the holes for the screws can be sealed with acrylic glue or closed with a decorative plastic plug. When removing double-sided tape, a regular razor blade or sharp knife works very well. You just need to pry up the edge of the tape and carefully remove the tape; traces of the adhesive base can be easily removed with alcohol or simply wiped off with a clean damp cloth.
