What parts does the door consist of? From the door leaf and door frame? But not only that! Today we'll just talk about main components of doors, each of which performs its own function and consider their most important features. And you, in turn, will get to know better the structure of a frequently found item in our apartments and houses.

It is worth saying that today door parts practically unchanged compared to those used previously. One of the few things that has changed is the materials from which these parts are made. In modern conditions, the latest technologies are used for the production of doors, which allows not only to achieve the required technical characteristics, but also unlimited possibilities for artistic design.

Let's move directly to the device. The main components and details of the door are:

  1. Door leaf. Represents the opening part of the door; it can be issued in any available way;
  2. Door frame. A frame that is installed in the doorway and on which the door leaf is hung. Usually door frames are sold together with the door, so you don’t have to buy them separately. They are made of wood or MDF, they can also be painted and decorated with veneer or laminate. The hinge part of the door frame is most often reinforced with a solid wood insert;
  3. Platbands. They are installed around the perimeter of the box and are needed to create an opening and close the gap between the box and the partition or the box and the wall;
  4. Door threshold. This is a special block in the floor, at the bottom of the opening, which is installed in order to improve the thermal insulation, sound insulation and fire resistance of the door;
  5. Door strips. Designed to separate the glazed part of the door and strengthen the glass;
  6. Door panel straps. They are the main bars in frame (panel) doors. Middles are bars that divide the door leaf into parts and serve as a connecting link between the frames;
  7. Panels. They are separate panels that fill the space between the trims and mullions;
  8. Loops. They help attach the door leaf to the frame (they are hung);
  9. Accessories. It includes locks, latches (latches), handles, safety chains or other parts that are attached to the canvas;
  10. Special seals. They are used to increase the sound-proofing and heat-insulating properties of doors.

The entire list presented above is far from complete. A large number of doors are equipped with a number of other elements that are used for both technical and decorative purposes. For example, for the production of sliding and folding doors, guides and rollers are used, and in heat-insulating doors this can be special insulation or double-glazed windows.

In any case, no matter what kind of door you would like to purchase, StroyOpt SPb A wide selection awaits you. They are produced by reliable suppliers in Russia and a number of countries in Europe and Asia in compliance with all necessary quality standards, and the building and finishing materials store itself StroyOpt SPb has a certificate of conformity.

The main components of doors remain today almost the same as they have been for many centuries. But in modern doors they can be made of new materials, using the latest technologies. This makes it possible, on the one hand, to achieve the required technical characteristics, and on the other, to obtain unlimited possibilities for the artistic design of doors.

Doors are installed in doorways left in walls and partitions separating rooms. Let us briefly remind the reader of what main parts the door consists of.

The individual parts and details of the doors have the following names:

  • the part of the door that opens is called door leaf;
  • the frame installed in the doorway on which door panels are hung is called door frame;
  • to design the opening and cover the gap between the box and the partition or wall, install along the perimeter of the box platbands;
  • the transition from platbands to baseboards and floors can be formalized bedside tables;
  • to improve the thermal insulation, sound insulation and fire resistance of the door, suit door threshold, which is a special block in the floor, at the bottom of the doorway;
  • can be used to protect the lower part of the door leaf from contamination and damage plinth(mainly at external doors);
  • door strips are called bars with a shaped profile, designed to cover the vestibule of double-leaf doors;
  • door slabs are called bars with a shaped profile designed to divide the glazed part of the door and strengthen the glass;
  • door leaf straps, with a frame (paneled) door solution, the main bars are called, middlemen- bars that divide the door leaf into parts and serve as a connection between the frames;
  • panels are called individual shields that fill the space between the trims and mullions;
  • door leaves are attached to the frame (hung) on loops;
  • attached to the canvases door devices: locks, handles, bolts (latches), safety chains, etc.;
  • to increase the sound and heat-insulating properties of doors, special seals.

This is not a complete list of elements that can be used to make doors. For example, guides and rollers are used for sliding and folding doors, special insulation and double-glazed windows are used for heat-insulating doors, etc. You can find out more about the design features of each type of door below in the relevant sections.

An interior door is a complex structure, each element of which has its own name. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the basic concepts that will help you navigate the world of professional terms - what a door consists of and what each part of it is called.

Components and some elements of door decor

The door leaf is the movable opening part of the door. The canvas is attached in two ways: to a box on hinges (hinged) or to a sliding rail on rollers (sliding). A door can consist of one, two or more door leaves of a frame or panel structure. The frame canvas is lighter in weight (the internal cavities are filled with chipboard, MDF, solid wood blocks, honeycomb filling) and has more possibilities for decoration.

– a U-shaped frame structure on which the door leaf is hung. This is a stationary part of the door block, which is firmly fixed in the walls of the doorway.

Frame frame door leaf straps are bars made of softwood located along the inner perimeter of the door.

Middles are bars that serve as a connection between the strappings. Divide the interior space of the canvas into sections into which panels or glazing are installed.

Panels are parts of the door leaf that cover the space between the frames and mullions. Depending on the type of connection with the harness, they are divided into smooth, with a frame, floating, with a figare, with layouts.

Molding is a decorative (shaped) profile that divides the door leaf into parts. The molding frames the panel or glass.

Layouts are slats with a relief profile that strengthen panels or glass. They also serve as a decorative element on simple smooth surfaces of the door leaf.

Frame (glazing bead) is a thin strip with which panels or glass are attached to the frame. Creates a reliable frame for fastening fabric elements.

A door strip (door strip) is a strip with a relief profile that closes the rebate (gap, gap between the leaves) of double-leaf doors.

Door slabs are small bars with a shaped profile that divide the glazed part of the door into separate segments. They strengthen and make the entire structure of the canvas stronger.

Skirting is a long panel fixed horizontally, which covers installation seams and cavities between the floor and the wall.

– overhead strips covering joints and gaps between the door frame and the wall. They serve as a decorative element of the door frame; they are flat, rounded, figured, telescopic and with a key. The dimensions and materials of the platbands depend on the type of door leaf.

Threshold – a special block installed at the bottom of the doorway. Serves to improve heat and sound insulation and fire resistance of the door. The threshold covers the joint between floors in adjacent rooms, and also equalizes the difference between floors at different levels.

Seals – gaskets of a tubular or more complex cross-section installed around the perimeter of the door frame. They reduce heat loss and perform noise and dust insulation functions.

– an important element of the interior, performing both an aesthetic function and a space zoning option. A lot depends on the choice of product: the general appearance of the room, the comfort of the conditions, the style of the room and the level of noise insulation in the room. Therefore, the choice must be approached responsibly and the design of the model taken into account. Those who are not professionally versed in carpentry, as a rule, believe that a door is a monolithic product. However, modern options include several important components that increase the reliability, durability and aesthetics of the interior door.

Design elements

In order for this interior element to look neat, occupy a minimum of space and at the same time effectively perform its functions, the design includes 5 components.

Door leaf

The canvas is the main element covering the doorway. It can be made of various materials. However, the most popular among modern options are and, for example. Natural materials are more durable, reliable, resistant to impacts and have an original appearance.

In addition to the material, the door leaf may vary in other parameters:

  • it can be solid or with all sorts of additional inserts, for example, glass or wooden elements;
  • method of decoration - to decorate the product, carvings, finishing with veneer from various species, as well as elements made of metal or plastic are used. External design may have a variety of designs;
  • thickness and overall dimensions.

The door leaf can consist of a frame made of solid wood or pillar elements, ties and a paneled part. The hinges and lock cut into the vertical side parts, which are the uprights. Ligaments are transverse, that is, horizontal elements of the fabric. The paneled part is located inside the frame itself. It can be made of MDF, solid wood or even glass. In this case, there can be several paneled parts: two or more.

Box

After installing the hinges, the door leaf is attached to the frame, which consists of two posts and a crossbar. The box is mounted in an opening in the wall. In most cases, an additional crossbar is installed at the bottom, forming a threshold. In order for the fastening of the door structure in the opening to be reliable, the frame must be resistant to changes in temperature, humidity and massiveness. If possible, racks and crossbars should be equipped with seals, as, for example, in plastic windows. This will reduce noise when opening the door and prevent the spread of odors throughout all rooms.

Platbands

Platbands are wooden planks that cover the junction of the wall and the frame. This element comes in two types based on its shape:

  • rectangular;
  • curly or semicircular.

To fasten the platbands to the box, special nails are used that do not have heads. Mostly platbands are made from MDF or plastic.

Extras

If the walls are wide, then after installing the box, between this element and the platband there remains an unclosed area in the alignment of the opening in the wall. The structural parts that are used to close this space are called extensions. In appearance they resemble platbands, only wider and have a rectangular shape.

Accessories

In addition to massive structural parts, an interior door also consists of small parts called fittings. This includes handles, hinges, chains, locks and all remaining elements. Most often, fittings are made from brass, as it is a very durable and aesthetic material. At the same time, it always corresponds to the overall design of the product.
