Graduated from college with a degree in orthopedic dentistry. I am very glad that I chose this specialty. The teachers here are real professionals, and the practitioners are generally just aces in their field. A big plus of the college is having its own dormitory. It’s certainly not that great, but it’s much cheaper than renting a house in the city.
Kherson Basic Medical College is one of the oldest medical educational institutions in Ukraine. Today the college trains junior specialists in the following areas: general medicine, nursing, laboratory diagnostics, obstetrics, dentistry, and pharmacy.
In October 1872, a paramedic school was opened in Kherson at the zemstvo hospital due to a catastrophic shortage of doctors and paramedics. Much has changed since then; the educational institution received its building in the last century. Now the college has a modern material and technical base; the educational building houses 50 classrooms and laboratories, a gym, a library, and a dormitory. Students undergo internships in basic medical institutions and pharmacies in the city. During its existence, more than 52 thousand people received medical diplomas at the college. Many became famous doctors, professors and academicians. In addition to training students, since 2008 the college has been providing advanced training for nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists.
On October 2, 1872, the first specialized medical institution in the province, the zemstvo paramedic school, began its activities in Kherson. The school did not have its own premises and was located in the free premises of charitable institutions.
The school accepted children aged 14 to 20 who spoke Russian and passed the entrance exams. To correct the moral deviations of students, a punishment cell functioned at the school.

- history and geography of Russia;
- Latin language;

Graduates who successfully passed all transfer and graduation tests received a certificate for the title of paramedic, and those who worked 4 years after graduation received the title of senior paramedic.
The first graduation of paramedics took place in 1876 (10 people).
Since 1903/04 The number of urban pupils exceeded rural ones, and compared to previous years this category even increased. Residents of counties also belonged to the urban category. By 1901, persons of all ranks and statuses were accepted into the paramedic school; moreover, visitors from other provinces enjoyed the same rights as residents of the Kherson province.
Since 1901, during admission to the school, preference was given to natives and permanent residents of the Kherson province.
A significant number of school graduates and high school students took part in the revolutionary movement. By the way, the paramedic movement, which received wide response and support in many provinces of Russia, originated in Kherson.
In August 1914, the First World War began. The school of paramedics with paramilitary procedures is being transferred to almost martial law. Vacations are cancelled. Classes were held throughout the year. Some students were called up to the front, but students born in 1894-1897 were given deferments to graduate from school.
In 1905, a military paramedic school was opened in Kherson, which existed until 1922.
Both schools of paramedics operated during the revolution and civil war, but with interruptions.
By decree of the Council of People's Commissars of January 29, 1920, paramedic schools were liquidated, and on April 1 of the same year, on their basis, the Kherson obstetric school of nurses with a two-year training period was organized by the county health department.
The first graduation of midwives took place in 1922 and consisted of 13 people.
In 1927, the midwifery school of nurses was repurposed into a medical vocational school with a 4-year course of study.
In the early 30s, courses were created in Kherson to train medical workers: dental technicians, paramedics, laboratory assistants, pharmacists, and dentists. By the way, these courses provided in-depth knowledge within the scope of the school and worked under the guidance of institutes for advanced training of doctors and pharmacists.
In 1937, a pharmaceutical school was opened in Kherson, which graduated two assistant pharmacists during the pre-war period (1937-1940, 1938-1941).
After the liberation of the city from the Nazi invaders, by resolution of the Kherson Regional Executive Committee No. 95 of May 31. In 1944, the medical school resumed its work as the Kherson Medical and Obstetric School.
Based on the order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine dated June 24, 1954, in accordance with the resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of 1937, the paramedic and midwifery school was renamed the Kherson Medical School.
Thus, the Kherson Medical School has become the legal successor of all specialized medical institutions in our city and continues their best traditions.
By order of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine No. 585 of November 15, 1963, the Kherson Medical School was recognized as a basic one.
In 1978, taking into account the high level of material and technical support of the educational process and the personnel potential of teachers, the school, on the instructions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, opened a department for people with hearing impairments in the specialty “Orthopedic Dentistry”.
From 1982 to 1997, evening training in the specialty “Nursing” was provided. The number of students in the 60s - 80s reached 2000 people.
By decision of the 19th session of the 23rd convocation No. 409 of July 26. 2001 The Regional Council of People's Deputies of the Kherson Basic Medical School was reorganized into the Kherson Basic Medical College.
The institution’s staff is doing a lot of work to provide the educational process with computer technology, modern visual equipment, literature, phantoms and exercise equipment, and the college’s sports complex has been put into operation.
Today, new demands are being made on educational institutions. The teaching team uses the best methods and forms of teaching, embodying global and own experience, taking into account local conditions, the material resources of the educational institution and medical institutions, and provides a high level of training for junior specialists.

Education of Kherson Basic Medical College
By the decision of the XIX session of the XXII convocation No. 409 dated July 26, 2001 of the regional council of people's deputies, the Kherson Basic Medical School was reorganized into Kherson Basic Medical College. Over the years of its existence, the Kherson Basic Medical College has trained over 52 thousand medical workers.

Today, Kherson Basic Medical College is a multidisciplinary educational institution in which 1,100 boys and girls study at the educational qualification level “junior specialist” in the following specialties: 1 201 "Medicine" 1202 "Pharmacy" 5.120 10101 “General Medicine” 5.120 10102 “Nursing” 5.120 10201 “Laboratory Diagnostics” 5.120 10104 “Dentistry” 5.120 10105 “Obstetrics” 5.120 10106 “Orthopedic Dentistry” 5. 120 20101 “Pharmacy” (for full-time and part-time courses).
There is also training at the educational qualification level “Bachelor” in specialty 6.120 101 “Nursing”.
Kherson Basic Medical College has an academic building, a dormitory, a sports complex, and a library with a reading room. The college has 45 laboratories and 40 classrooms equipped with modern equipment, apparatus, mock-ups, dummies, models and other visual aids, including classrooms for technical teaching aids, computer science and computer technology, language laboratories, as well as 17 classrooms, classrooms and laboratories on bases of medical and preventive institutions of the city.
The training of qualified medical workers is provided by a teaching staff of 170 teachers, including many practical medical workers, candidates of medical sciences, teachers of the highest and first categories, senior teachers and teaching methodologists.
