We begin assembling the parts of the outer cover.

We fold the first two wedges together so that the front side is on the inside. Taking into account sewing in a 100 cm zipper, we sew 15 cm from the bottom and top. Then we baste the zipper and sew it on using a machine.

Attach the next wedge and iron the seam to one side. We do the same with the rest of the parts of the chair base. To secure seam allowances, make a stitch on the front side of the cover at a distance of 1 cm from the seam. The stitch is best done using the maximum stitch size of the machine (4-5).

Then we sew the base and bottom of the chair.

Let's move on to sewing the inner cover. The sewing process is similar to sewing the outer cover, with the exception of sewing in a 40 cm zipper. To do this, you need to stitch 45 cm at the top and bottom.

After the inner cover is ready, we move on to stuffing it with polystyrene balls. Be extremely careful with this material, as its entry into the respiratory tract is fraught with serious consequences. Do not neglect to use a protective mask from the pharmacy. We fill the cover to about 2/3 of the total volume of the bag to make the chair soft.

2. What fabric will the frameless chair be made from? The inner cover will take on most of the load. It is recommended to use dense natural blended fabric or Oxford 400 polyester material. It is durable (will not rip apart at the seams), lightweight (will not weigh down the chair) and is impregnated with water-repellent substances. Thick, non-stretchy fabrics are suitable for the outer cover. It should be remembered that lint materials will collect dust particles and pet hair and will have to be cleaned more often. It is better to give preference to special furniture fabrics that have dirt- and water-repellent impregnations. Such materials can be cleaned with a brush or machine washed.
3. Children will be comfortable in a chair of any size. But if you make it small, then no one except the child will be able to use it. For a large man, on the contrary, it is necessary to increase the patterns.

It will consist of one cover made of dense Oxford fabric 600. It has a dense, durable weave that allows it to be used for sports equipment. Cut the material according to the following pattern, adding 1.5 centimeters on each side to the indicated dimensions for seam allowances. It is better to cut out the side parts according to a pattern previously drawn on paper, then the parts will be symmetrical.

Pin the back and bottom part facing inward and stitch to the place where the zipper will be located, i.e. leave 30 cm of seam unstitched. Baste with a temporary hand stitch, straighten the seam allowances, baste and sew on the zipper. Open the temporary seams.

Pin facing inwards and stitch the front part and back parts. Pin and baste them with the bottom and back pieces.

All seams can be processed with an overlocker or a seam - an imitation of an overlocker, which is found on modern machines. Or, to reinforce the seams, you can fold the seam allowance in half and stitch over it.

Baste and stitch the front part. This seam should not be reinforced additionally. Turn the product inside out. Place a stitch along the perimeter of the front part, securing it with a fold 0.7 cm high. The resulting edging will strengthen the seam and give visual rigidity to the product.

Fill the case with foam balls. To do this, you need to take a 1.5 liter plastic bottle, cut off the neck and bottom so that you get a pipe. If the bottle has a "waist" - even better. Open the bag with the filler, insert the bottle into it and secure the bag with tape. Make sure that the neck of the bag is completely secured with tape and the balls will only spill out through the bottle. Unzip the chair and put the cover on the bottle. Close the zipper, fixing it at the “waist” of the bottle. Hold this area with your hand and turn the bag of filler over. Fill the chair to about 2/3 of its volume. If there is too much filling, the chair will not “hugg” and will be uncomfortable. If it's too small, it will sit too low.

All materials for the chair can be purchased at regular sewing stores. The only difficulty may arise with the purchase of filler. It is sold by companies engaged in the production of frameless furniture or manufacturers of thermal insulation materials. An important point is the quality of the filler. Ideally, polystyrene foam granules should be the same size - 4 - 5 mm. If the balls are too small, the chair will be heavy. If they are too large or of different sizes, then the fluidity of the filler will be lost, and you will have to distribute it inside the chair with your hands. Also, sometimes the so-called “crushed material” is used to stuff frameless bean bags. This is recyclable material, which is made from defective foam boards. This kind of filler does not flow at all, but only squats under the weight of the person sitting and makes an unpleasant squeaking sound. If the filler has a strong chemical smell, it should be ventilated for several days in the open air, for example, leaving a bag of balls open on the balcony, or even pouring them into a fabric bag.

• If you choose a chair with a double cover, then the zipper on the outer one should be long enough so that you can get through it the inner cover with filling.
• It is better to buy filler with a small reserve, because during active use it will shrink up to 25%.
• The finished chair should not be placed near heat sources or bathed in a pool.
• If you have children, then it is better to sew an additional flap in the place where the closed zipper will be located.
• Several small grommets can be installed on the outer faux leather cover to allow air to escape between the outer and inner cover.
• To ensure that the chair is lush and does not lose its appearance even when no one is sitting on it, the outer cover can be duplicated with a layer of padding polyester.

The third stage of sewing is creating a handle. The rectangular blank is unfolded on the inside, folded along the longest side once, after which the free edges are carefully sewn together.

After you go over the part with a sewing machine, all that remains is to turn the fabric out and iron the surface to move the resulting seam to the center. Stitching is done along the seam.

At the next stage, the top is sewn to the future bag from a blank similar to the base. The handle made before this is sewn to the hexagonal top on one of the sides, placed between this part and the side wedge. Again you need to iron the allowances and stitch.

It is also necessary to start grinding the base. To make this sewing step easier, open the zipper already sewn to the side. As you can see, there is nothing complicated! The inner cover of the chair is sewn in exactly the same way.

We figured out how to sew a bean bag chair with our own hands, but there is one more important point. In order for the frameless chair to take the shape we need, we need to fill it with foam granules. As a rule, it is enough to fill about two-thirds of the chair's volume.

Since the filler is purchased in bags, it can be difficult to carefully pour it inside the chair and fill it with polystyrene foam in a short time. Be prepared for the balls to scatter across the floor, and the foam will stick to your fingers, which will also prevent you from quickly filling the case and completing the process of creating the chair.

Fortunately, there is a way that allows you to easily deal with filling the inside of our bean bag chair. Take a bottle (one and a half liter is enough). Using scissors or a knife, remove the top and bottom: you will get something like a pipe. Now open the zipper on the chair cover a little - and fix the plastic trim in the hole with tape. The other side of the bottle is glued to the bag from which the balls will be poured (before this, slightly trim one of its edges).

Advice: Instead of a bottle, you can use other blanks of a similar shape.

Once you are sure that the balls can only spill out of the bag through this hole, you can start pouring them into the chair. A similar procedure is followed with each bag. Periodically check the filling of the chair to achieve optimal “density”.

When the pouffe chair takes its intended shape, close the zipper of the inner cover. Sit down on it and make sure that you are comfortable enough to sit. Everything is fine? Then feel free to put on the outer case and invite your loved ones to demonstrate your success!
