How is La Ilaha Il Allah translated? La ilaha illallah: conditions for evidence of monotheism. These words will weigh down the scales on the Day of Judgment

BISMILLAHIRRAHMANIRRAHIM

“There is no compulsion in religion. The straight path has already been distinguished from error. Whoever (makes takfir) does not believe in taghut, but believes in Allah, has grabbed the most reliable handle that will never break. Allah is the Hearer, the Knower.” (al-Baqarah, 256)

This is the meaning of the words “La ilaha illallah”. “Yuruatul-usko”, which means “reliable handle”.

“We have not sent a single messenger before you who was not inspired: “There is no god but Me. Worship Me!” (al-Anbiya, 25)

These words “La ilaha illallah” mean: “Worship Allah alone. Do not worship anyone other than Him.”

Ibn Qayyim said: “Tawhid is not only rejection and denial. At the same time, acceptance without rejection is not valid. Since tawhid is rejection and acceptance at the same time. This is precisely what tawhid is in its correct understanding.”

The reason for the enmity between the Prophet (pbuh) and the Mushriks is the words:“La ilaha illallah.”

These words include two parts, the first of which is rejection, the second is acceptance:

1 – “La ilakha” – in this part there is a rejection of all deities, idols and taghuts that people worship.
2 – “Illallah” – in the same part there is an affirmation of the existence of Allah and the acceptance of worship only to Him.

The mushriks understood well that they would be forced to accept monotheism and leave the shirk in which they were located if they said “La ilaha illallah,” since they knew very well the meaning of these words. The mushriks of that time understood this better than the people of this ummah, even better than the possessors of knowledge. However, despite the awareness of some (today’s) experts in hukms and knowledge of the word, they did not comprehend and did not understand monotheism in worship... Therefore, they entered into shirk, which contradicts monotheism, and embellished it for the people.

When Heraclius interrogated Abu Sufyan regarding what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, he replied: “He says: Worship Allah and do not associate anyone with Him. And leave what came to you from your fathers." This is what Abu Sufyan and others understood from the words of the Messenger (pbuh): “Say La ilaha illallah, and you will be saved.”

Words: “Who has testified that there is no god but Allah?” stand for:
“Whoever understands these words with full understanding will embrace and put into practice all the requirements that these words contain and will not commit acts that contradict these words.”

Witnessing with both testimonies, it is necessary that nothing contrary to these words be practiced, either in knowledge, or in faith, or in deeds. Regarding this, Allah said:
Know then that there is no god but Allah...”(Muhammad, 47/19)

If someone pronounces these words without understanding their meaning, without grasping what these words require and without practicing it (for example, without breaking with everything connected with shirk, without showing sincerity in deeds and words), this will not bring him any benefit and he is not a believer.

That is, for someone who does not pronounce it on the tongue and in the heart, and does not practice with the organs and heart, such pronunciation of these words does not provide any benefit to the one who pronounces them according to ijma.
It is said in Qurratul-Uyun:

These great words include negation and affirmation:
- denial of the divinity of everything except Allah with the words: “La ilaha”
- affirmation of the divinity of Allah with the words: “Illallah”

Allah Ta'ala said:
“Allah has testified that there is no god but Him, as well as the angels and those with knowledge. He supports justice. There is no deity but Him, the Mighty, the Wise. “ (Ali Imran: 3/18)

How many people have gone astray due to ignorance in understanding its meaning, and these are the majority who have gone astray. They inverted the true meaning and established a false divinity. For which of the creations was the negation (i.e. La Ilaha) intended for the deification of graves, mausoleums, taghuts, trees, stones, genies, etc. and they took it for themselves as a religion and likened it and decorated it and considered tawhid to be an innovation and condemned those who called for it. And they did not understand what the Jahili understood from the kafirs of the Quraish tribe and
similar to them. They then understood the meaning of these words and therefore rejected them, which indicates their lack of sincerity. As Allah said about it:
“When they were told: “There is no god but Allah,” they became proud and said: “Are we really going to give up our gods for the sake of an obsessed poet?” ” (Saffat: 37/35-36)

And the mushriks of the last generations of this ummah reject what those also rejected, from the fact that they called on them to abandon the worship of what they worshiped besides Allah from the dead, graves, mausoleums, taghuts, etc. This is how they understood this meaning and therefore abandoned it. But these reject without understanding this meaning and therefore you will find them saying: "La ilaha illallah", but at the same time calling on others besides Allah.

The reason for this is that the Arabs in jahiliyya were the owners of the language of the Koran, pure Arabic speech. And they were not ignorant of anything regarding the meaning of tawhid who stated it. And the mushriks of the last generations of this ummah reject what those also rejected, from the fact that they called on them to abandon the worship of what they worshiped besides Allah from the dead, graves, mausoleums, taghuts, etc. This is how they understood this meaning and therefore abandoned it. But these reject without understanding this meaning and therefore you will find them saying “La ilaha illallah”, but at the same time calling on others besides Allah. But as for those among whom shirk in worship has spread today, they are not among the possessors of the skills of this language. And truly they profess the terminology of the kalamists, which some of them pass on to others.

La ilaha illallah is the key shahada of the Muslim world. The Shahada is a testimony of faith in Islam. From Arabic the phrase is translated to mean “There is no one worthy of worship except Allah” or “There is no object of worship except Allah.”

This means that all other gods are fictitious idols. If a person somehow imagines the Creator of the people of heaven, earth and all worlds, which is Allah, then he does not worship the Almighty God, but his imaginary idol. Saying this shahada indicates that a person is a devout Muslim, that he has submitted to the Lord.

Shahada: 8 conditions for saying La ilaha illallah

In the words of La ilaha illallah is the truth itself, this shahada is considered the key to the gates of Paradise. But simply uttering this phrase will not be a person’s ticket to Paradise. Several conditions for reciting the Shahada must be observed. These are the conditions:

  • Knowledge (Al-ilm).
  • Confidence (Al-Yaqin).
  • Sincerity (Al-ikhlas).
  • Truth (Al-sidq).
  • Love (Al-mahaba).
  • Submission (Al-inqiyad).
  • Acceptance (Al-kabul).
  • Belief in one God. (Al-kufr bit-tawagit).

Let's look at each point separately.

Shahada in Islam

Condition la ilaha illallah first: knowledge

Al-ilm is the light of knowledge, the antonym of darkness and ignorance. Every person who uses the Shahadah must understand what this phrase implies. If La ilaha illalah is pronounced without realizing its meaning, then the pronunciation loses all power. Shahada (testimony of faith) is the conscious choice of a person who understands and accepts all the laws of Islam. Only knowledge can make a person submissive to the Lord. As the Quran says: “Know that there is no god but Allah” (47:19).

It is also necessary to quote the words of the Prophet (peace and blessings of the Almighty Creator), who said: “Whoever meets Allah without associating anything with Him will enter Paradise.” The one whose last words were: “La ilaha illa Allah” will enter Paradise.”

Condition two: confidence

Al-yaqin or confidence is a concept antonymous with doubt and moral vacillation. A believer should not have the slightest doubt about his beliefs. He must pronounce La ilaha illalah with firmness and calmness in his heart. The Almighty is One, and there are no other gods. Only the Lord is worthy of honor and exaltation. As the Quran says: “Only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and then have no doubt are believers” (49:15). These words are complemented by the sacred Hasid: “I testify that there is no god but Allah, and that I am the Messenger of Allah, and if a slave meets Allah without doubting these words, he will certainly enter Paradise.”

Condition three: sincerity

The phrase al-ikhlas (sincerity) has an antonym – shirk. Al-ikhlas means that a person should not pronounce a sacred phrase in a pretentious way, for show. His listeners are not people, but Allah. And a person will not be able to deceive the Lord by insincerely pronouncing the Shahada. God sees and understands everything, and the feigned utterance of the phrase “in public” will become a great sin, but evidence of monotheism.

Remember what the Quran says: “Say: I am commanded to worship Allah by purifying my faith before Him” (39:11).

Allah considers shirk one of the most serious sins. An insincere person does not have the firmness of faith, and over time he may well fall into the heresy of polytheism.

“Say: “I worship Allah alone, purifying my faith before Him. So worship whatever you wish besides Him” (39:14).

“The happiest people (on the Day of Judgment) are under my intercession, and these are those who said: “There is no god but Allah” sincerely from the heart.”

Condition four: truthfulness

Al-sidq or truthfulness is the antonym of lying. Only a person who is honest with himself and God is able to correctly understand the Shahada. The testimony of faith will strengthen a person’s strength on his path to realizing the power of the Most High.

Hypocrites say one thing, but in their hearts they have something completely different. The Almighty Creator says in the Quran: They utter with their tongues what is not in their hearts” (48:11).

Al-sidq is not in the tongue, but in the heart. Only with the heart can a person pronounce La ilaha illallah.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever testifies truthfully from the bottom of his heart that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, Allah will forbid fire to touch him.” Only when the soul is completely filled with truth, love and honesty is it possible to approach God.

“On the day when neither wealth nor sons will benefit anyone except those who stand before Allah with a blameless heart” (26:88-89).

Condition five: love

One of the most important conditions for pronouncing the shahada is love or al-mahaba. In the Islamic tradition, love means love for the Almighty and His Prophet (peace be upon him). Believers are required to love what the Lord loves and not accept what is unacceptable to the Almighty.

Let us remember the hadith: “The sweetness of faith will be felt by the one who is distinguished by three (qualities): loves Allah and His Messenger more than everything else, loves (this or that) person only for the sake of Allah and does not want to return to unbelief just as he does not want to be thrown into the fire."

But how can a person prove his love for God? There is only one way - strict adherence to the Koran and the reliable Sunnah. The Quran says: “Among people there are those who associate equals with Allah and love them as they love Allah. But those who believe love Allah more. If only the wrongdoers, having seen the torment, saw that power belongs entirely to Allah and that Allah inflicts severe torment” (2:165).

Knowledge helps a person to love the Almighty. The more he learns about God, the stronger his love. Al-mahaba helps the believer to attract the attention of the Lord and cause His satisfaction. The more love there is for God, the more goodness and happiness there is in the world.

Condition six: humility

Submission or Al-inqiyad is the awareness and acceptance of the Power of the Lord of the Worlds, His power and all His qualities. Only by fully submitting to Allah can a person sincerely recite the Shahada. People are supposed to strictly follow the instructions of the Lord, without deviating from the right path.

Let us remember the Koran: “Whoever submits his face to Allah, being a doer of good, has grasped a reliable handle, and the decision of all matters is with Allah” (31:22).

“For a believing man and a believing woman, there is no choice in their decision if Allah and His Messenger have already made a decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has fallen into obvious error” (33:36).

Submission is necessary for the person himself; this is determined by the Lord himself. As the Prophet said: “Not one of you will believe until his aspirations correspond to what I came with.”

Condition seven: acceptance

The truth of the words La ilaha illallah (La ilaha illallah) must be accepted by a Muslim unquestioningly. It will protect a person from arrogance and ignorance.

Condition eight: denial of polytheism

The person who pronounces the shahada must reject polytheism with his heart and soul.

“The straight path has already been distinguished from error. Whoever does not believe in taghut, but believes in Allah, has grabbed the most reliable handle that will never break.” (2:256).

Peace be upon you, mercy and blessings of the Almighty Creator

Evidence of faith “La ilaha illalah” (There is no god but Allah) is the first thing that defines a Muslim, but this is not limited to just pronouncing these words, it is belief in the heart, these words contain the truth. “La ilahaha illalah” is the key to heaven. Saying the shahadah implies the fulfillment of certain conditions:

8 conditions of “La ilahaha illalah”:

1. Al-ilm - knowledge.
2. Al-yaqin - confidence.
3. Al-ikhlas - sincerity.
4. Al-sidq - truthfulness.
5. Al-mahaba - love.
6. Al-inqiyad - submission.
7. Al-kabul - acceptance.
8. Al-kufr bit-tawagit - denial of polytheism.

1. Knowledge (al-ilm) is the opposite of ignorance.

The one who pronounces the Shahada must know what this expression means and entails. This knowledge must be contained in the heart. If a person pronounces “La ilaha illalah” without knowing its meaning, he does not fulfill this condition.

Shahada involves knowledge of Allah, the concept of worship and understanding the basis of Islam. Such knowledge leads to complete submission and direction of one’s intentions only for the pleasure of Allah Almighty.

The Koran says: Know that there is no god but Allah (47:19).

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

“Whoever meets Allah without associating anything with Him will enter Paradise.”

The one whose last words were: “La ilaha illa Allah” will enter Paradise.”

2. Al-yaqin - confidence is the opposite of doubt.

A person should not experience any doubts when testifying to faith; his conviction in what he says in his heart should be firm. Allah is one and no one is worthy of worship except Allah.

The Quran says: “Only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger and then have no doubt are believers” (49:15).

The hadith says: “I testify that there is no god but Allah, and that I am the messenger of Allah, and if a slave meets Allah without doubting these words, he will certainly enter paradise.”

3. Sincerity (al-ikhlas) is the opposite of shirk.

Sincerity consists in avoiding ostentation and directing all your actions only to the pleasure of Allah. A person is not able to deceive the Almighty, who sees and knows everything, and by showing insincerity, he only falls into the great sin of hypocrisy before Allah.

The Quran says: “Say: “I am commanded to worship Allah by purifying my faith before Him” (39:11).

Shirk is the opposite of sincerity. An insincere person, along with Allah, will divide sincerity between Allah and other false gods, and such worship will turn into polytheism.

The Koran says:

“Say: “I worship Allah alone, purifying my faith before Him. So worship whatever you wish besides Him" (39:14)
The hadith says: “The happiest people (on the Day of Judgment) are under my intercession, and these are those who said: “There is no god but Allah” sincerely from the heart.”

4. Al-sidq - truthfulness - the opposite of lying.

Truthfulness and honesty are key to the correct understanding of evidence. It strengthens the believer's desire for knowledge of His Lord. The Koran says:

“Hypocrites say one thing, but have another in their hearts, as the Koran says:

They utter with their tongues what is not in their hearts” (48:11).

Truthfulness is in the heart. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Whoever testifies truthfully from the bottom of his heart that there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, Allah will forbid fire to touch him.”

When love for Allah fills the heart, the soul is filled with honesty and truthfulness in regard to worship and deeds.

“On the day when neither wealth nor sons will benefit anyone except those who stand before Allah with a blameless heart” (26:88-89).

5. Al-mahaba - love is the opposite of hatred.

Love in Islam means loving Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him), loving what is loved by Allah and hating what is not loved by Allah.

The hadith says: “The sweetness of faith will be felt by the one who is distinguished by three (qualities): loves Allah and His Messenger more than everything else, loves (this or that) person only for the sake of Allah and does not want to return to unbelief just as he does not want to be thrown into the fire."

Love for Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him) lies in following their instructions. The Koran says:

“Among people there are those who associate equals with Allah and love them just as they love Allah. But those who believe love Allah more. If only the wrongdoers, having seen the torment, saw that power belongs entirely to Allah and that Allah inflicts severe torment” (2:165).

The more a person recognizes Allah, His wonderful names and qualities, the more he shows love for Him, his love strengthens. This makes the believer strive more for the pleasure of the Almighty, perform more worship and do more good. Love for Allah Almighty leads to happiness in both worlds.

6. Al-inqiyad - submission.

If a person has realized and sincerely accepted these words, then this will certainly be reflected in his actions and will be expressed in submission to Allah. Submission and submission to Allah is a precept of faith, which consists of following the instructions and staying away from what is not permitted by Allah.

The Koran says:

“Whoever submits his face to Allah, being a doer of good, has grasped a reliable handle, and the decision of all matters is with Allah” (31:22).

The Quran says: “There is no choice for a believing man or a believing woman in their decision if Allah and His Messenger have already made a decision. And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has fallen into obvious error” (33:36).

Submission and submission to Allah is for the very benefit and good of a person, since Allah knows best.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Not one of you will believe until his aspirations correspond to what I came with.”

7. Al-kabul - acceptance.

Awareness of the basis of faith must be supported by a humble acceptance of this truth. Accepting “la ilaha illalah” protects a Muslim from pride, arrogance and ignorance:

“When they were told: “There is no god but Allah,” they became proud and said: “Are we really going to give up our gods for the sake of an obsessed poet?” (37:35)

Witnessing implies accepting Islam as the only correct way of life, and its prescriptions as the truth from Allah, following which will lead to His pleasure.

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) compared those who accepted and rejected the truth: “The guidance and knowledge with which Allah sent me (to people) are like abundant rain falling on the earth. Part of this land was fertile, it absorbed water, and many different plants and grass grew on it. (The other part) of it was dense, it retained water (on itself), and Allah turned it to the benefit of people who began to use this water for drinking, feed livestock with it and use it for irrigation. (The rain) also fell on another part of the earth, which was a plain that did not retain water and on which nothing grew. (These parts of the earth) are like those people who comprehended the religion of Allah, benefited from what Allah sent me with, acquired knowledge themselves and passed it on (to others), as well as those who did not turn to it themselves and did not accept the guidance of Allah , with whom I was (directed) to the people."

8. Al-kufr bit-taghut - denial of polytheism.

He who bears witness with his heart believes that there is no one and nothing worthy of worship except Allah.

The Koran says: “The straight path has already been distinguished from error. Whoever does not believe in taghut, but believes in Allah, has grabbed the most reliable handle that will never break. Allah is the Hearer, the Knower” (2:256).

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, peace and blessings of Allah be upon our prophet Muhammad, members of his family and all his companions!

Sheikh ‘Abdur-Rahman ibn Hassan Ali Sheikh said: “Seven conditions are necessary in a testimony (la ilaha illallah), and the utterance of this testimony will not be beneficial if any of these conditions are not present!

First: Knowledge excluding ignorance;

Second: Conviction that excludes doubt;

Third: Acceptance incompatible with rejection;

Fourth: Obedience excluding disobedience;

Fifth: Sincerity, excluding polytheism;

Sixth: Truthfulness excluding hypocrisy;

Seventh: Love incompatible with hatred (dislike).” See “Fathul-Majid” 190.

Evidence from the Qur'an and Sunnah for these seven conditions

1. Knowledge excluding ignorance

Allah Almighty said: “Know that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah, and ask forgiveness for your sin!”(Muhammad 47:19).

‘Uthman ibn ‘Affan reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever dies knowing that there is no one worthy of worship except Allah will enter Paradise!” Muslim 26.

2. Conviction that excludes doubt

Allah Almighty said: “Believers are those who believed in Allah and His Messenger and then had no doubts.”(al-Hujurat 49:15).

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that I am the messenger of Allah! Whichever servant of Allah meets Allah with these two testimonies, without doubting their truth, he will certainly enter Paradise!” Muslim 27.

Abu Hurayrah also reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told him: “Go, and whoever you meet behind this wall testifying that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, being convinced of this in your heart, make him happy with Paradise!” Muslim 31.

3. Acceptance incompatible with rejection

Allah Almighty said: “In the same way, no matter what warning warner We sent before you to any village, its inhabitants, pampered by luxury, would certainly say: “Truly, we have found our fathers on this path, and we are faithfully following in their footsteps!” ”” (az-Zukhruf 43: 23).

Allah Almighty also said: “Indeed, this is how We deal with sinners. When they were told: “La ilaha illa-Allah,” they became proud and said: “Are we really going to give up our deities for the sake of a possessed poet?” (al-Saffat 37: 34-36).

Abu Musa reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The guidance and knowledge with which Allah sent me to people is like abundant rain falling on the earth. Part of this land was fertile, it absorbed water, and many different plants and grass grew on it. The other part of it was dense, it retained water, and Allah turned it to the benefit of people who began to use this water for drinking, feed livestock with it and use it for irrigation. Rain also fell on another part of the earth, which was a plain that did not retain water and on which nothing grew. These parts of the earth are similar to those people who comprehended the religion of Allah, benefited from what Allah sent me with, acquired knowledge themselves and passed it on to others, as well as those who did not turn to this themselves and did not accept the guidance of Allah with whom I was directed to the people." al-Bukhari 79, Muslim 2282.

4. Obedience excluding disobedience

Allah Almighty said: “And whoever submits to Allah, being a doer of good, has grasped a reliable handle.”(Lukman 31:22).

Allah Almighty also said: “But no - I swear by your Lord! “They will not believe until they choose you as a judge in everything that is entangled between them, cease to feel constraint in their souls from your decision, and submit completely!” (an-Nisa 4: 65).

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “None of you will believe until his passion follows what I came with!” Ibn Abi ‘Asim in “al-Sunnah” 15, al-Bayhaqi in “al-Madkhal” 209, al-Khatib in “at-Tarikh” 4/469.

There is a certain disagreement among scholars regarding the authenticity of this hadith. However, Imam Abu Nu'aim, Imam an-Nawawi, Sheikh Ibn al-Qayim, Imam Ibn Muflih, Hafiz al-Suyuty, Sheikh Muhammad ibn 'Abdul-Wahhab, Sheikh Siddyk Hasan Khan, Hafiz al-Hakami called it reliable. See “al-Arba’in” No. 41, “al-Adabu-shshar’iya” 3/69, “Usul al-iman” 1/264, “Ma’arij al-kabul” 2/78.

And even if this hadith was weak from the side of isnad, its meaning is correct, since it is confirmed by the Koran! Allah Almighty said: “For a believing man and a believing woman, there is no choice in their decision if Allah and His Messenger have already made a decision! And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has fallen into obvious error” (al-Ahzab 33:36).

Allah Almighty also said: “If they do not answer you, then know that they are only following their passions. And who could be more misguided than the one who follows his passions without true guidance from Allah? (al-Qasas 28: 50).

5. Sincerity, excluding polytheism

Allah Almighty and Almighty said: “Worship Allah, being sincere to Him in religion!”(az-Zumar 39:2).

Abu Huraira said: “One day I asked: “O Messenger of Allah, who will be the happiest of people thanks to your intercession on the Day of Judgment?” In response, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to me:“O Abu Hurayrah, I thought that no one would ask about this before you, since I saw how you strive to listen to my words! On the Day of Resurrection, the happiest of people, thanks to my intercession, will be the one who said: “La ilaha illa Allah,” being sincere in his heart!” al-Bukhari 99.

6. Truthfulness excluding hypocrisy

Allah Almighty said: “Among the people there are those who say: “We believe in Allah and the Last Day.” However, they are unbelievers! They try to deceive Allah and the believers, but they deceive only themselves and do not realize it” (al-Baqarah 2: 8-9).

Mu'adh ibn Jabal reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to him: “Whoever testifies that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, being truthful in his heart, Allah will certainly make him prohibited from the Fire!” al-Bukhari 128, Muslim 32.

7. Love incompatible with hatred (dislike)

Allah Almighty said: “O you who believe! If any of you apostatizes from his religion, then Allah will bring other people whom He will love and who will love Him” (al-Maida 5: 54).

Anas reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever has three qualities will feel the sweetness of iman (faith)! Who will love Allah and His Messenger more than anything else; will love a person only for the sake of Allah; and will not want to return to unbelief after Allah has saved him from it, just as he does not want to be thrown into the fire! al-Bukhari 16, Muslim 43.

There is also an eighth condition of the Shahada, and this is:

8. Non-recognition and renunciation of everything that is worshiped besides Allah

Allah Almighty said: “Whoever does not believe in taghut, but believes in Allah, has grabbed the most reliable handle that will never break. Allah is Hearing, Knowing!” (al-Baqarah 2: 256).

Allah Almighty also said: “Here Ibrahim said to his father and people: “Verily, I am not involved in what you worship except the One who created me. Indeed, He will guide me to the straight path” (al-Zukhruf 43: 26-27).

Tariqa ibn Ashyam reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever said: “La ilaha illallah,” and then rejected everything that is worshiped besides Allah, his property and blood are forbidden, and his answer is with Allah!” Muslim 23.

This condition is very important and is one of the most basic! After all, even if a person accepts the testimony of “la ilaha illallah”, pronounces it with his tongue and is convinced of its truth in his heart, moreover, worships only Allah alone, but at the same time he will not consider everything that people worship besides Allah to be false, then his certificate will be invalid! See “Taysirul-Azizil-Hamid” 286.

If, under all the conditions mentioned, a person believes that there is, say, any religion that is also true, such as those who say that Christians and Jews are not infidels and that they will be questioned on the basis of their Scripture, then his testimony “la ilaha illallah” is invalid!

And in conclusion, praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds!

Wa-alaikum-salaam, dear brother Albert!
The testimony (shahadah) that “there is no god but Allah, and that Muhammad is His servant and His messenger” distinguishes a believer from an unbeliever.

The word “ilah” literally means “deity”, “worthy of worship”, “worthy of prayer”, i.e. One whose greatness, power, wisdom and place in the world are worthy of being worshiped.

La ilaha illa Allah, we must pronounce with full understanding of the meaning of these words. When we mechanically repeat these words, we differ little from those who do not pronounce them at all. If a person does not feel the full power, the all-encompassing nature of these words, if he does not feel their great meaning for himself, if he does not try to delve into them, if the desire to follow them in life is not kindled in a person, if he is not wary of everything that comes with these words are incompatible - this man did not understand Islam. Mere repetition of these words, and not following them as the law of life, does not place a person among those who fulfill the mission assigned by Allah, and therefore will not benefit him in the future. It’s like repeating the word “penicillin” endlessly when you have inflammation; it won’t make it any easier. The whole point is in the activity. In order for penicillin to be beneficial, you must take an action - at least, introduce it into the body.

La ilaha illa Allah means that we are deeply and consciously convinced of the Unity of Allah, i.e. We recognize only Allah as our God. We realize that our life and death depend only on Him, that only He (as our Creator) knows what is good for us and what is destructive. Only to Him we can worship and obey, only to Him we can hope, only to Him we should fear, only to Him we should ask and only to Him should we cry out for help, only in His name and for His sake should we begin any task.

La ilaha illa Allah means that we sincerely recognize that the rule and power belongs to Allah alone. Only He has the right to be a Legislator and establish norms and rules governing human life on Earth. And that only He is worthy of absolute love.

It follows from this that for a believer, all laws invented by man and introduced into public life have value and meaning only if they do not contradict His Law. All philosophical concepts and theories, guided only by which people try to build human society, ultimately lead to the collapse of the latter.

La ilaha illa Allah means that we must observe the boundaries of what is permitted and prohibited that Allah has defined for us.

La ilaha illa Allah means that with our firm conviction in the meaning of these words, we will certainly come to the conclusion that the Quran (Book-Word of Allah) and the Sunnah (life path, tradition of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him), are the only basis and guide for achieving happiness in both worlds.

Every Muslim can measure his faith with the words “La ilaha illa Allah” and at the same time discover in his actions many actions that are incompatible with these words. Each of us can remember cases when we told a lie, were afraid of those in power, succumbed to anger, committed an act dictated by anything other than love for Allah, and much more.

Formally recognizing the authority of Allah, His wisdom and power, in practical life we often go against His plans. Although we often do not approve of rules and customs that are contrary to Islam, we nevertheless do not oppose them. Fearing the condemnation of others, we commit actions that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, did not commit or condemned. To help a person fulfill the mission of great worship, to warn him against errors and at the same time to test him, Allah has assigned a certain minimum of duties to him, which are the five pillars (rukns) of Islam:

1. Firm belief in faith and evidence that there is no god but Allah, and that the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is the slave and messenger of Allah.

2. Performing five prayers per day.

3. Allocation once a year by wealthy people of the community of a certain share from their property (zakat) in favor of the poor, the needy and those on the path of Allah.

4. Annual observance of the month of Ramadan.

5. Performing hajj (pilgrimage) to Mecca to the House of Allah, the Kaaba once in a lifetime, if possible.
