HOW TO PROPERLY CARE FOR YOUR ELBOWS?

When caring for your hands, you should not forget about such a problem area of skin as the elbows. In the absence of proper care, they can cause many problems: the skin becomes dry, rough, becomes covered with cracks, begins to peel and flake off. In addition to purely aesthetic problems, such skin also causes physical discomfort: it becomes irritated and painful to the touch.

There are several reasons for rough skin on the elbows.

Firstly, it can become a consequence of a disease of the endocrine system - in this case, not a single cosmetic product will help cope with the problem until you eliminate the cause itself. The skin of the elbows takes a long time to heal and return to a healthy state, so cosmetologists advise promptly preventing the appearance of rough elbows - this is easier than trying to restore their elasticity and diseases. However, it is possible to soften the skin and prevent further deterioration of its condition in this case.

Second A common cause of dry and cracked skin on the elbows is a lack of vitamins A and E in the body. In this situation, it is advisable to combine cosmetic procedures with taking vitamin preparations. The third and most common reason for hardening of the elbows is the lack of proper care for these areas of the skin. Due to its structure, the skin on the elbows is prone to dryness and the formation of a dense stratum corneum, which, if proper preventive measures are not used, cracks and causes pain. Therefore, it is important to cleanse and moisturize the skin of the elbows in a timely manner, removing old dead cells and saturating new ones with moisture.

A pH neutral shower gel and a soft exfoliating washcloth made from artificial or natural fibers are suitable as daily cleansers. To deeply cleanse the skin of keratinized scales, it is better to use soft scrubs and gommages, without resorting to pumice or other equally aggressive grinding agents. The maximum you need to use is an exfoliating washcloth, which can be used to massage your elbows during nightly water procedures, otherwise too much rubbing of the skin can lead to the opposite effect: the stratum corneum, trying to protect the soft tissues of the skin from such aggressive effects, will become thicker and rougher .

After each cleansing, the skin should be lubricated with a rich cream, which can restore the protective lipid barrier overnight and at the same time replenish the lack of nutrients in the dermis.

When purchasing a cream for the skin of the elbows, you should pay attention to the presence of components useful for dry, rough skin, such as various vegetable oils; It’s better if it’s grape seed, wheat germ or almond oils, rich in vitamins A, E, E. Extracts of licorice and calendula help relieve redness; It’s good if the cream contains aloe vera or witch hazel extract - these components will soften the skin and relieve irritation.

Mask to soften rough skin on elbows

To nourish dry elbow skin, it is important not to forget to make various masks. Masks made from warm vegetable oil perfectly soften the skin. This can be regular olive, sesame or corn oil from the refrigerator or cosmetic oils like almond and peach seed. To prepare the mask, simply heat the oil in a water bath to 40 °C, then put your elbows in a bowl for 10-15 minutes, remove excess oil with a cotton pad and massage the skin until the product is completely absorbed. Coconut oil softens rough skin very well, which does not have to be heated, but simply rubbed in a circular motion in the elbow area; As a result of warming massage movements, solid coconut oil will melt and be completely absorbed into the skin. Such masks allow you to cope with the problem of rough skin already in the first stages and avoid cracking and peeling of the skin of the elbows.

Citrus cleansing mask for elbows

Ready-made peeling and gammage can be replaced with a citrus cleansing mask, which effectively removes dead skin cells and at the same time nourishes the skin of the elbows, giving it elasticity. To prepare a mask, grapefruit or lemon are better suited: a fairly large fruit should be cut into 2 halves, mash the pulp directly into the peel with a spoon and dip your elbows into the halves. You can transfer the pulp to a bowl and hold your elbows in it; Fruit acid, contained in large quantities in these fruits, will cleanse the skin of old cells, making it soft and silky. However, it should be remembered that this mask is only suitable for healthy skin without signs of peeling or cracking, since otherwise the same citric acid will cause severe burning and irritation of the skin.

Women usually pay little attention to their elbows. They are not noticeable in front of the mirror and, as a rule, do not cause trouble. In these places the skin is thicker and drier than in others. If you don't take care of it, it quickly loses its attractive appearance. Dry skin on the elbows looks especially unsightly in the summer, when clothes do not cover the arms. Problem areas spoil the entire appearance, and in a neglected state they even crack.

Why do elbows crack and dry out?

  1. Particular attention should be paid to health. Dry elbows often indicate problems with the thyroid and adrenal glands. Hormonal changes in the body cannot be treated on their own; it is necessary to consult an endocrinologist. Serious diseases such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, as well as eczema and psoriasis are best identified at the very beginning. Only by ruling out diseases can you look for the reasons why your elbows dry out.
  2. The condition of the skin is greatly influenced by what a person eats. Lack of vitamins, especially A, E, D, can significantly affect it. A monotonous diet, when important components of the diet are missing, can also cause dry skin. Especially important are those products that contain keratin. These are low-fat fish, meat, various dairy products and some others. In order for nutrients to be absorbed well, the diet must be varied. Often dry elbows cause inconvenience precisely in those seasons when there are not enough vitamins.
  3. Quite often, dry skin on the elbows occurs due to too frequent bathing. They are especially popular during the cold season. Many people love pleasant treatments with various aromatic additives. But do not forget that the skin dries out a lot with frequent washing. In addition, it contains chlorine, which is irritating. Frequent visits to the pool also contribute to dry skin. If you don't treat it, your elbows seem to crack.
  4. Even mechanical stress can cause dry elbows. This is observed among those who sit at the table a lot and often. Office workers often don't think about this problem. They hold their hands above the table and at the same time rest their elbows on it. This habit looks pretty ugly. In addition, it inevitably leads to roughening of the skin on the elbows. If you don't pay attention to it, it starts to crack.

How to remove dryness

  1. When excessive dry skin appears and elbows crack, what should you do? It is necessary to exclude the possibility of health problems. No matter how lazy you are to go to hospitals, you need to visit an endocrinologist. It wouldn't hurt to consult a dermatologist. If the dry skin on the elbows is very irritated and even cracks, special ointments are prescribed. They soften and moisturize the skin, relieve itching and heal cracks.
  2. Taking vitamins has a good effect. The doctor may prescribe a specific complex or a general course of multivitamin preparations. It is necessary to establish proper nutrition and make it more varied. When the skin is very dry, natural vegetables and fruits will not hurt.
  3. In the absence of medical contraindications, special attention should be paid to cosmetic care. When applying creams to your face and hands, do not forget about your elbows. If this procedure becomes a habit, then soon they will cease to be problem areas. Within 10 days, with daily care, there will be a noticeable improvement.

Skin softening techniques

Sometimes the skin on the elbows dries out due to improper use of detergents. Many soaps dry out the skin. You should pay attention to their composition and use those that contain glycerin. Baby soaps and shower gels are the most gentle. If the skin on your elbows has already become dry and rough, you need to use a product that can soften it. In this case, salicylic ointment is recommended. It must be applied to the elbows for about 10 days. Then you can use regular nourishing creams. Compresses made from any vegetable oil have a good effect on rough skin. The compress is made in the form of a bandage at night; you can simply apply it to your elbows. To prevent general dehydration, you need to drink enough water. The norm is 2 liters per day; in hot weather, its amount increases. In winter, when heating indoors, the air is often dry. You can moisten it by placing a damp towel on the battery or in other ways. Also, do not forget about regular ventilation. Dry skin on the elbows often appears suddenly. The skin on the elbows needs care, just like the face and other parts of the body. To do this, you can purchase special creams or use inexpensive homemade products.

Many people forget about caring for such a part of the body as the elbows. And hard, wrinkled elbows covered with a thick layer of keratinized skin create a very unpleasant impression. And if you don’t see them, it doesn’t mean that others don’t see them either.

The skin on the elbows can be dry and rough for several reasons:

  • lack of vitamins;
  • insufficient care;
  • sensitive skin;
  • and the most important thing is endocrine system disorders (you need to contact an endocrinologist).
  • You need to understand what most affected the condition of your elbows and deal with the root cause. Contact a dermatologist, he will accurately determine the cause of dry elbows.
  • Drink vitamins – A and E;
  • Use more greens in your food;
  • Several times a week, carry out a set of procedures that will make elbow care effective (if elbows do not cause you problems, twice a week will be enough);
  • Whiten rough elbows - they usually stand out with darker skin color. Whitening cream or a slice of cucumber will do (you need to wipe your elbows with it daily);
  • Do not lean on your elbows while sitting at the table. It is this habit that adversely affects the condition of your elbows and leads to the appearance of rough skin.

CLEANSING

  1. Before taking a bath or shower, take a slice of lemon and rub it on your elbows. You can cut a lemon or grapefruit in half and mash their pulp, but do not remove it from the “cups” of the zest. Place your elbows there for 10-15 minutes. If there are cracks in the skin, then you should not use this recipe. It is better to mix glycerin and vinegar essence in equal parts and lubricate your elbows with this mixture.
  2. While washing, don't forget to rub your elbows with a washcloth or body scrub. You can prepare the scrub yourself by mixing sour cream and salt.

Finally, lubricate your elbows with cream. After 8 - 10 such baths, the skin of the elbows takes on a well-groomed appearance.

Recipe 2:

Once a week, make baths from heated oil - olive, sunflower, corn. Do not heat the oil too much; the bath should last about 15 minutes.

Recipe 3:
