Appearance of the new Duster changed dramatically, but the designers had to work within the same dimensions, because the platform remained old. The large radiator grille has a very original look, completely new head optics with LED strips. The taillights are basically hello from the future. Huge roof rails have appeared on the roof, and now 17-inch wheels will be available to buyers. But the most interesting thing about the exterior of the new product can be seen from the side. If you look at the silhouette, you understand that there are much more changes here than it seems. Firstly, the windshield now has a sharper slope (which will have a positive effect on aerodynamics). Secondly, the window sill line has changed its height. Well, perhaps the most unusual thing is the front fenders with plastic inserts, which hints to us about the off-road capabilities and greater practicality of the model. Duster II interior changed beyond recognition. A completely new center console, a solid climate control unit with cool washers and screws. The touch monitor displays not only multimedia, navigation and rear view camera data, but also a projection image from all-round cameras! True, such a function will be available as an additional option. In addition, the touch monitor now displays compass and inclinometer data. The steering wheel not only changed its shape, but also began to move back and forth, plus height adjustment. There is nothing superfluous on the instrument panel - a tachometer, a speedometer and a small on-board computer screen in the middle. There is not much information about the trunk yet. Taking into account the fact that the dimensions of the car have remained virtually unchanged, the volume has remained approximately the same. Naturally, the version with all-wheel drive has a slightly smaller trunk.

In technical terms, there are not many changes. The body length turned out to be about 4.3 meters, with the same wheelbase. The approach angle is 30 and the departure angle is 33 degrees, plus ground clearance of 210 mm. That is, in terms of geometric cross-country ability, the model has not become worse. The chassis and suspension remain the same. The settings may change, but the architecture and overall design have changed little. The rear still has the same drum brakes. A new crossover from Dacia was officially presented in Frankfurt. This is the second generation Duster 2018. It will appear in Moscow no earlier than next year. The car will be assembled in two versions - one for European countries, the second for Russia on the B0 platform. As Duster's manufacturers promise, sales in EU countries will begin before the new year. Prices for Duster in Europe will not change. The cost of this car is low in its class. In order not to change it and keep the car accessible to Russians, they built a new generation of cars on the same old B0 platform, but this is not a drawback. According to the latest news for the Russian Renault Duster 2018 in a new body (photo), configurations and prices will maintain the same level of availability. This article is a fairly detailed review of the new Renault Duster 2 crossover, which will go on sale in Russia at the end of 2018 - beginning of 2019. The differences between Duster-1 and Duster-2 are considered.

A little history

The history of the compact crossover, well known to many Russians, began at the end of 2009, and the car was officially presented for the first time at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

The car was developed on the Nissan B0 platform, common with Renault Logan, and was also created on this basis, launched into series in 2014 (the Russian version has been produced in India since 2013).

In Russia, assembly of the Duster at the Moscow Avtoframos plant began in 2011, and for several years the model was repeatedly recognized as the best-selling Renault brand in the Russian Federation.

The popular crossover was restyled in 2013; developer Evgeny Tkachev, the author of the conceptual version of the Lada X-Ray, took part in the design update.

Renault Duster is loved by Russians for its high reliability, adaptation to Russian roads, practicality, good off-road qualities, and, of course, for its low cost and inexpensive maintenance.

The second generation Renault Duster has been produced on the Romanian market since November 2017. Finally, they are coming to Russia, most likely, “indestructible” cars will also be in demand and will be included in the sales rankings of 2018 and 2019.

New exterior

According to the manufacturer of the Renault Duster 2018, not a single detail remains in the body of the car from the first generation crossover, but from the “face” of the car, its appearance resembles its predecessor, and these two models can not even be distinguished from each other at the first fleeting glance.

The rear exterior of the Duster-2 is completely different, and the first thing that is noticeable is the somewhat unusual rectangular-shaped lights (similar to the optics of the Jeep Renegade).

Let's briefly go over the main details of the external design of the new model:

The front body pillars of the Renault Duster-2 have moved 100 mm forward, and now there is a little more space in the cabin for the driver and front passenger.

The glazing line also rose somewhat, due to which the height of the glass itself decreased.

In the maximum configuration, the car has four all-round cameras.

But the electric drive for opening the trunk door never appeared; you have to open the door manually; even in the new version, the color range of the body has changed and expanded.

Changes in the interior

There have also been quite a lot of changes in the interior of the Renault Duster, in particular, the air deflectors on the dashboard have taken on a different, very original shape, and the multimedia system has finally moved higher on the instrument panel.

And since the screen is now slightly turned towards the driver and has less glare, using multimedia has become much more convenient than before, and many will definitely note this modernization as a big plus.

Three large round air conditioning control knobs (climate control in the top version) were supplemented with informative LCD indicators, and the steering wheel also began to look more “noble”.

And in general, many additional options that were not there before can now be seen on cars with a “charged” configuration, for example:

• push-button keyless entry;
• switchable economy mode;
• parking sensors all around;
• all-round camera with repeaters on the side mirrors;
• hill descent assist system.

The control element for electric mirrors is now located in a completely expected place (on the instrument panel), previously on the Duster the joystick was located under the handbrake lever.

Compared to the first-generation car, the trunk of the Renault Duster in the new model has decreased slightly; with a standard seat arrangement in an all-wheel drive car, its volume is 376 liters, in the 4x2 version - 445 liters.

This difference is explained by the placement of the spare wheel, since in the first version the spare wheel is located under the floor in the trunk, in the second - under the bottom of the car.

Another important change is the adjustment of the steering wheel for tilt and reach; the steering column of the “first” Duster could only change its position according to the tilt angle.

A retractable organizer is now installed under the front passenger seat, and a 12-volt socket is provided on the right of the rear row of seats for connecting various gadgets.

There is enough space in the cabin to freely accommodate people both in front and behind, but the number of additional options for those sitting in the “gallery” is limited to a minimum.

The liquid crystal screen on the dashboard is a touch screen, relatively small in size, complemented by a navigator, helps monitor fuel consumption parameters, and can be used as a compass in off-road conditions.

The instrument panel is equipped with round dials for the speedometer and tachometer; in the middle there is a monochrome on-board computer.

Renault Duster-2 is a five-seater crossover with a length of 4.34 m, the width and height of the car are 1.8 and 1.68 m, respectively.

Ground clearance, as before, is 210 mm, which puts it in the . The minimum turning diameter is 10.1 m.

Both types of installed engines comply with Euro-6 environmental standards; AI-95 fuel is used to refuel a car with a gasoline engine. The fuel tank capacity is 50 liters, the curb weight of the vehicle does not exceed 1395 kg.

• the maximum speed developed by the car is 171 km/h;
• diesel fuel consumption in mixed mode is 4.6-4.8 l/100 km.

For a modification of a car with a naturally aspirated gasoline engine, the maximum speed is almost the same, but the acceleration time to “hundreds” is reduced to 11.3 seconds.

The average fuel consumption for a gasoline crossover is 8.1-8.3 liters per hundred kilometers traveled; in the all-wheel drive version, gasoline consumption is slightly higher.
The rear suspension of the new model also has brake drums, as before; unfortunately, the manufacturer did not try to modernize the chassis.

As standard, the car is equipped with sixteenth-diameter wheels, the typical tire size is 215/65.

The front brake discs, like all modern passenger cars, are ventilated; in the most “charged” version, 17-inch wheel discs are installed.

About some shortcomings and useful innovations

Taking into account the wishes of users, the manufacturer of the new Duster corrected some shortcomings during the development of the model, left certain points unattended, and introduced some innovations, creating only unnecessary inconvenience for car owners.

But first things first, and first a list of not the most successful design solutions that continue to “live”:

• the seat backs on the new Renault Duster 2018 are adjusted for tilt using a lever; in the old version, “twists” were installed;
