It is almost impossible to imagine a modern living room without a large TV. Even strict opponents of television do not deny themselves the pleasure of showing their favorite films or clips on the screen.

But finding a comfortable place even in a spacious living room is not always easy, because you still need to fit a sofa, table, cabinets, work area, shelves and books, musical instruments and a lot of other little things. Therefore, modern ergonomic designs come to the fore.

Plasterboard niches can easily replace old, clumsy walls. They will also help you organize space correctly, because it is a powerful tool for visually zoning a room.

The bedroom is an atmosphere of peace, relaxation and comfort, where there is no room for anything unnecessary. And this is not a whim at all, because your well-being, mood and performance directly depend on healthy and full sleep.

Don’t clutter your bedroom with unnecessary furniture and appliances - and calm and romance will always reign in it. But this doesn’t mean you need to give up a new episode of your favorite TV series before bed.

A plasterboard niche in the bedroom is not only an ideal place for a TV that will not get in the way, but also a stylish, atmospheric accessory. Elegant decor, gentle dim lighting, fresh flowers or favorite photographs around - and the bedroom will be transformed.

Functionality always comes first in the kitchen, because it is the main workroom in any apartment. But a TV won’t hurt either, because it makes it more fun to do routine things and more enjoyable to spend time with your family watching your favorite films.

But when installing a TV in the kitchen, the most difficult thing is to choose a place. It is important that it does not interfere, is not too close to the stove or sink, so that water and grease do not get on it, and that the protruding structure does not interfere with the passage.

Most often, the kitchen area is limited and not too large, so there is no talk of any cabinet cabinets. Putting the TV directly on the work surface between the food processor and the microwave oven is far from the best option, so a plasterboard niche comes to the rescue.

Making a niche out of plasterboard with your own hands

Coping with arranging a plasterboard niche with your own hands is much easier than it might seem at first glance. This does not require special knowledge and skills - a simple set of tools is enough. But it’s better to do this after buying a TV, so that it fits in size without any problems.

Determine the location of the future niche, take all measurements, make a drawing and transfer the markings to the wall. To work, you will need measuring instruments, a level, a construction knife, a plane, a hand screwdriver and drill, screwdrivers, self-tapping screws and dowels for sheet materials.

Do not forget that the screen should not fit tightly to the structure. Leave some space for easy installation, connection and cleaning: on average, the shelf will be 20 cm wider than the TV.

Decide which shape will harmoniously fit into your interior: strict rectangular classics, futuristic polygons, original circles and ellipses, elegant rounded corners. All this can be done from drywall!

It is important that the TV does not protrude beyond the edges of the niche, and if there is a socket behind it, an even greater depth will be needed. The most reliable are moisture-resistant sheets, which are more durable and resistant to changing conditions, this is especially important in the kitchen with its temperature and humidity conditions. The thickness depends on the shape and size of the niche, as well as on the expected loads.

The future structure is mounted on guide profiles, so you need to install them first. Secure the frame with self-tapping screws along the marking lines - and the outlines of the future niche are ready. A special knife is suitable for cutting plasterboard sheets, but make sure that all edges are smooth.

When laying drywall on the frame, make sure that all joints are smooth, without sharp depressions or protrusions. Use self-tapping screws and special butterfly dowels. Along the perimeter, all joints and corners will have to be reinforced again with profiles. This will give the structure additional strength, and it will look neater.

After this, you can move on to finishing and decorating the niche. And then - to install the TV, the brackets for which are included or sold separately.

Materials for decoration

A niche in the wall can be made of absolutely any shape and configuration. Among them there are several of the most common: under a furniture wall with shelves and decorative elements, under a window and a decorative fireplace installed under the TV. Depending on the style and design of the room, choose finishing materials and decorations.

Niche painting

The simplest solution is to paint the plasterboard structure with regular paint. But first, thoroughly putty the base to smooth out all the joints, abutments and attachment points. For a more expressive decorative effect, use textured plaster. Paint the niche to match the rest of the walls for strict or classic interiors, or with a bright, catchy color for fashionable modern accents.

Wallpapering a niche

The option with wallpaper is as simple as painting, and in the same way allows you to make the niche as inconspicuous as possible. For variety, use companion wallpapers, which are available in the collections of most brands. Nowadays, the combination of different textures and patterns is back in fashion, so combine a solid color with patterns, and stripes with large flowers.

Stone finishing

Natural stone is not suitable for cladding a plasterboard structure - it is too heavy. But the artificial one will cope with the task perfectly, and in appearance it is almost no different. A stone niche in a lush classical interior always looks monumental and luxurious.

Wood finishing

Wooden finishing is another win-win classic, because such a niche is not inferior to a full-fledged furniture set. But, as with stone, choose light types of wood, lightweight wood materials or imitation. For cladding it is convenient to use panels, like lining, which are quickly installed and hide minor defects.

Decorative finishing of a niche

When designing a niche for a TV, feel free to use everything you feel like. Painting, stencils, mosaics made of small particles, glass or mirror inserts, stucco molding and complex polyurethane structures are used. You can decorate the niche with a frame, like a picture, or decorate the sides with elegant half-columns.

Illumination of a plasterboard niche

Lighting is a stylish and convenient tool for decorating plasterboard structures and niches. From the point of view of ease of installation and fire safety, mounted spotlights and LED strips have proven themselves to be the best. Duralight, neon tubes and threads are good for creative interiors.

Direct the light stream away from the room, otherwise it will be too bright. The most comfortable shades for vision are white and yellow, and colors can be added with blue, green or red neon. But it is not recommended to keep colored or flashing tapes on all the time: they strain the eyes.
