And also from much more exotic materials: tree trunks, fittings, scrap metal, literally, leather, fabric, rods and so on. Accordingly, different manufacturing tools will be required.

• a jigsaw is the main working tool;
• electric drill and a set of corresponding drills;

Materials are selected in accordance with the model, practical experience and financial capabilities.

• Wood materials – furniture board, veneered MDF, laminated chipboard, plywood. Solid wood is one of the most expensive options; chipboard and plywood are much more affordable and much easier to process. • The legs require a separate approach. They can be made from wooden beams of the appropriate section. However, even a round shape of the leg will require the use of a milling machine. • Metal - this option requires equipment, skills, and special knowledge.

How to make a coffee table with your own hands

No matter how simple this product may be, execution requires great care and attention. After all, a coffee table is a decoration of the living room, and, therefore, it should be beautiful, elegant or unusual, depending on the style, but in any case, made with high quality.

Made of wood

Wood is the easiest material to process and the most pliable. This means that the shape and design of products made from it literally have no restrictions. You can make a beautiful thing from wood and various types of fiberboards with a minimum of skills and tools.

The main thing here will be strict adherence to the proportions indicated in the drawing. You can create the latter yourself or use a ready-made project.

1. Choose the shape of the tabletop - square, oval, curved. The latter is easier to make from chipboard or plywood. The material is cut with a jigsaw and a hacksaw.
2. The edge of a table top made of solid wood or laminated furniture board should be processed with a router to give it a beautiful shape, and then sanded with sandpaper. The edge of the chipboard tabletop is processed with a grinding machine or drill with the required attachment.
3. Legs can be made in different ways: glue together several round or quart-shaped boards, turn wooden blocks with a router, buy ready-made ones, or use an unusual material. It is considered very fashionable to install the tabletop on cuttings of curved branches or even stumps. The legs are attached to the tabletop using corners, screws or glue, depending on the material.
4. When a coffee table is made of chipboard, especially in designs where shelves are intended, it is not the legs that are made, but the supporting sides. Such a product is assembled onto tongues, for which holes are drilled at the ends of the sidewalls. Fastening with tongues is duplicated with glue.
5. The shelves are cut out of chipboard and fixed with tongues or screws.
6. It is somewhat more difficult to assemble the drawer. It is very important for this part to respect the angles and planes, so the elements and each connection must be checked with a level.
7. The finished product is treated with stain, painted, varnished or “aged” - as desired.

A plane with a tunnel effect is obtained by combining two parallel mirrors and a light source placed between them. The top mirror should be translucent, that is, with a light reflection level of 50% and light transmission of 50%.

A monochrome LED strip is used as a light source; the color of the radiation is chosen to suit your taste. Glass with mirror coating or acrylic glass with mirror film is used as a translucent mirror.

1. The tabletop in the form of a frame is assembled from an aluminum profile or chipboard. In the latter case, the frame element is made from two fragments of chipboard with different widths so that a protrusion is formed.
2. A mirror is inserted into the frame. Then the LED strip is attached to the ledge or directly to the profile.
3. The tabletop is covered with a translucent mirror. The distance between the two mirrors is 75–80 mm, but it can be more. The fact is that the depth of the “tunnel” is determined by the distance between the mirrors and is calculated by multiplying the distance by 16.
4. The tabletop is checked by connecting to a power source - via a transformer, of course. And then the product is secured to the legs or sides.

Making a coffee table mobile is very simple. This option differs from the wooden one only in the features of working with glass.

1. On a sheet of tempered glass 5–8 mm thick, mark the shape and size of the future tabletop.
2. Then a glass cutter, pre-lubricated with sunflower oil, is drawn along the cutting line - a shallow recess is obtained. The glass is moved to the edge of the surface on which they are working, so that the excess fragment is suspended, and is carefully broken off.
3. The operation is repeated until the tabletop of the desired shape is obtained.
4. The edge of the product is processed with a file to remove large chips, and then polished with a grinder with a diamond attachment. The edge is then polished with fine-grit sandpaper and a felt wheel.
5. The legs are secured with suction cups. The latter are first fixed to the legs and then attached to the glass surface. For reliability, you can drip some glue onto the glass area.

From scrap materials

Don't have any extra chipboards or glass scraps on hand? No problem! You can make coffee tables with your own hands from scrap materials. And then we will tell you about the features of creating such a product.

Literally anything can serve as a material for a non-classical style coffee table.

• The easiest way to make the interior special is to make a coffee table, albeit a small one, from hemp. You can use a “whole” stump, that is, only with cut roots at a certain height. If the product needs to be given mobility, then the cut should be the same size on the upper and lower sections. The technology is simple: a fragment of a trunk or stump is leveled, the flat surfaces are sanded and coated with transparent polyurethane varnish. Holes are drilled at the bottom of the stump and 3 or 4 rollers are secured.
• It is no more difficult to make an option where a stump with “roots” serves as a support for a glass tabletop. The latter is cut out according to the scheme described above and simply glued to the top of the stump.

A model where the table is formed by vertically standing sections of thin trunks or branches will require a little more patience - it takes time to collect an armful of the required size. Fragments of trunks are fixed on a base made of chipboard, glued together with a composition based on epoxy resin, leveled and polished the “countertop”. The product is opened with varnish.

• For Provence or retro style, a model made from a hard suitcase is suitable. Holes are drilled in its lower part and secured to the legs with self-tapping screws. The suitcase can be decorated or painted.
• A table made from a cable reel looks good in the loft style. The latter is painted and installed on rollers so that it can rotate around its own axis, and the space between the base and the tabletop is divided by partitions into compartments or shelves. A multifunctional mobile table is formed.
• A tribute to fashionable European traditions - a wooden pallet, treated with stain and installed on large rollers. The product is covered with glass on top and an original display case is obtained.
• A very interesting model made from bicycle wheels. It is a little more difficult to implement, as it requires some skill in working with metal. The arcs serve as the base of a complex shape, to which the tabletop is secured with self-tapping screws. The latter is made of a wheel covered with a round glass screen on top. For safety, the edge of the tabletop wheel is sealed with a plastic edge, and pieces of hose are put on the ends of the legs.

How to restore a coffee table with your own hands

Really old products from the late 19th – early 20th centuries are subjected to this procedure. Mass-produced furniture usually does not have aesthetic value, and here repairs come down not so much to restoring a coffee table with your own hands, but to decorating.

This work is painstaking and requires time and patience. You will need hand tools - a nail puller, screwdrivers, pliers, chisels, etc., and an electric drill. Materials: sandpaper of varying degrees of grain, wire brush, varnish, stain, if the color of the furniture needs to be changed.

1. The table is disassembled whenever possible. Firstly, it is necessary to carefully examine all the parts, since some of them are probably deformed or dry due to age. If any element becomes unusable, it can always be ordered from the workshop. Secondly, it is much more convenient to treat surfaces and remove varnish from parts rather than from the whole product.
2. When dismantling, it is best to drill out screws and dowels.
3. Varnish and paint are removed from the surface. If the layer is thin, you can remove it with a wire brush and regular sandpaper. If the coating is thick or areas are damaged, using an electric drill with a brush attachment will give the best effect. You can also use a grinder.

If the table is made of valuable wood or there are carved parts, then it is recommended to remove the varnish using a special paste, which is used by professional restorers. If you cannot find a solution, you will have to clean the threads and bent wood with fabric-based sandpaper.

1. The cleaned surface is degreased with acetone or alcohol based products.
2. If scratches and chips cannot be removed by grinding, then the defects are puttyed, and after the putty has dried, the putty is carefully sanded.
3. Deep cracks and faults are eliminated as follows: the crack is glued, the part is pulled together and fixed in a clamp until completely dry - 12–15 hours. You can use self-tapping screws to tighten them; after the glue dries, they are removed.
4. All joints are cleaned and glued if necessary.
5. The table is treated with stain: old wood usually darkens and loses its brightness, the stain returns expressiveness to the material. Then the product is opened with varnish in 2-3 layers.
6. After all the parts have dried, the product is assembled.

Originality and beauty are not a property of expensive material, but the result of imagination, a sense of proportion and taste. Not everyone can afford expensive beech or marble, but anyone can show creativity and make something unusual.

Today I will tell you about creating a coffee table. In principle, it is not as difficult as it seems, you just need to have all the necessary tools and desire. And for work we need this:

• furniture board or laminated chipboard;
• jigsaw;
• electric drill;
• roulette;
• pencil and ruler;

• different fasteners;
• rollers;

So how do we make a coffee table with your own hands at the lowest cost and at the same time so that it has an original shape?

First of all, we turn on our imagination and come up with the shape of the table, then we draw its diagram and decide on the dimensions. I came up with my own diagram of a coffee table and this is what its drawing will look like.

The dimensions of the top cover of my future piece of handmade furniture are 75x55 cm, and the bottom cover is 65x45 cm. The side parts have an arbitrary shaped configuration. The middle shelf will serve as a stiffening rib with dimensions of 55x25 cm. Coffee table height will be equal to 50 cm without taking into account the height of the wheels. Having marked all the elements on the slab using templates, you can start cutting them out.

To ensure that as few chips as possible are formed when sawing with a jigsaw, you need to strongly run a sharp knife along the cut lines several times.

To saw a chipboard board, we use a file with the smallest tooth and set the jigsaw to a reduced speed. When working, we try to guide the jigsaw evenly along the cutting line, eliminating the appearance of waves. If one does appear, then you can trim the cut with a rasp, using a “pull-away” movement. So, first we cut out the rectangular parts of the coffee table with our own hands.

Then we proceed to the side ones. To make both sides exactly the same, we will cut them together. To do this, we fold two blanks “facing” each other and tighten it all with clamps. Then we apply markings according to the template and cut out the outer outline. To saw inside the workpieces, you need to drill holes with a diameter of at least 10 mm in the corners of the drawing. Insert the jigsaw blade into the hole and begin sawing. This way we get rid of the internal areas and get the same sides.

All our components of the table are ready, now we need to cover all the cuts with decorative furniture edge (and if we modernize this one a little, then the edge of the table will look much more decorative). This is done using a hot iron. We place the tape with the adhesive side on the cut side and align it with the edges. Then, holding it, iron it on top with a hot iron. We do this with our own hands with all the external and internal sections of the elements of the coffee table.

If the width of the tape is larger than the end of the slab, then cut off the excess part with a sharp knife, and carefully blot the cut of the tape with stain (you can use an ear stick).

Now we mark the fastening places for the middle part of the table - the shelf and the sides. The fastening here will be special screws for furniture - confirmats. Given the special structure of this fastener, you will need a special drill to drill holes for it. If there is none, then you can use three ordinary ones: under the screw part, under the extended part and under the cap. By drilling holes you can fasten the shelf and sides.

Next we will attach the completed middle part to the top cover. To do this, we will place our elements in the position in which they should be in the finished table and mark the places for metal corners and holes for screws. Then we will fasten these parts of our table.

We turn the coffee table over with our own hands and similarly connect the structure to the bottom lid, using the same furniture metal corners. Next, we put our table on wheels. We mark the installation locations of the rollers on the bottom side and secure them with screws.

That's all! Our handmade coffee table is ready! On New Year's holidays, you can successfully place something like this on it or beautifully serve a romantic dinner. This is how, without using much effort and without calling on specialists for help, and especially without spending the family budget, you can acquire a very useful piece of furniture.

Making such an original coffee table will not require much time, but the product will take its rightful place in any interior with a touch of minimalism. To work, you need to purchase a sheet of plywood, three legs with fasteners, thick thread, a pencil, a tape measure, a jigsaw and paint (preferably white or black).

So, the first thing you need to do is cut out the tabletop. On the back of the sheet, select a point that will be the center and drive in a small nail. Cut a piece of thread the length of the radius of the future table. We attach one end of it to a hammered nail, and tie a pencil to the other and, stretching the structure, draw a round shape for the table top. Next, you can dream up and give the canvas a more original shape. It is noteworthy that to make such a table you will not need any drawings or measurements at all. We cut out the drawn shape of the tabletop using a jigsaw, sand it and paint it. When the structure is completely dry, we attach the legs. The table is ready.

This original design will fit perfectly into many styles. It will most successfully complement a daring loft or natural eco-style. It is not difficult to design such an exclusive table: for work you need to get a tray, metal legs or wheels (at your discretion). Step by step, all work on constructing the table will take place in the following order:

1. Mark the dimensions of the table on the pallet and saw off the excess part.
2. We take planks from the leftovers and cover the gaps in the main structure with them to create a continuous surface, fixing them with self-tapping screws.
3. We turn over and form five transverse strips: two on the sides (the legs will be attached to them) and one in the center for stability.
4. We mount the supports and open the structure with varnish or paint.

Tire coffee table

An old worn-out tire can be a great base for creating a beautiful home coffee table. Additionally, you need to prepare the plywood. Before you begin construction, you must thoroughly wash and dry the tire. Next, you need to measure the diameter of the tire and cut two circles from plywood: one - the tabletop - should correspond to the diameter of the tire, and the other - the base - should be a few centimeters smaller. You can immediately attach legs, wheels to the base, or leave it without supports at your discretion. We attach round sheets of plywood to the tire using self-tapping screws or sit them on construction glue - the base is ready.

Next, we choose one of two methods: we wrap the rope either completely around the structure, or only at the sides. In the first option, you need to think about how to treat the countertop - perhaps paint it or coat it with a shiny varnish.

You should start wrapping from the center: fix the end of the rope with a self-tapping screw or a glue gun and begin the movement of winding circles, gradually moving to the sides. There is no point in wrapping the base, unless you decide to make the table half two-color. At the end of the winding, the entire structure should be coated with transparent varnish to extend its service life.

Coffee table made from drawers

If you have wooden vegetable boxes lying around your household, don’t rush to throw them away. Just four of these containers can turn into a beautiful and useful part of your living room interior. If you don’t have drawers, the hardest part of making a table will be getting them. Then everything is simple: the boxes need to be sanded, painted and folded, as shown in the photo. We use a sheet of plywood, which must be screwed to the bottom side of the structure so that it does not fall apart. So our coffee table is ready. The advantage of this design will be the organization of spacious storage areas for various magazines, books and other things.

They are the ones who will surely like a coffee table reminiscent of certain pleasant voyages. Any old suitcase with hard walls that is not suitable for its intended purpose will be suitable for production. You will also need a sheet of thick plywood, a screwdriver with screws, paint and, if desired, legs or wheels.

We cut out two sheets of plywood with an area equal to the base of the suitcase, attach them from the inside to the base and lid. Screw on the legs or wheels. Next, you need to decorate the table - different methods are used for this. One simple option is to paint it white, and when the structure is dry, use sandpaper to make abrasions indicating the antiquity of the item. This product will suitably decorate a living room in a shabby chic style. The black color of such a table will harmoniously fit into a loft living room, and the decoration using the decoupage technique will become a real masterpiece of Provencal design.

Coffee table made of driftwood

The uniqueness of furniture made from stumps and driftwood lies in its uniqueness - what is created by nature itself does not have similar patterns and textures. Such products always attract the eye with their curves and weaves. In addition, getting the source material is not so difficult - it can be found in the forest, on the shore of a reservoir. The snag needs to be washed, cleared of bark, and rotten waste removed. Next, you need to make adjustments, level the shape to fit the tabletop and base, and let the workpiece dry thoroughly (if there are large holes in the wood, it can be puttied).

The dried driftwood is carefully sanded, covered with stain (you can choose the shade you like best) and varnish. The base is ready. The table top can be attached using construction adhesive or self-tapping screws (depending on what it is made of).
