It has become a good tradition of the French company Renault to regularly restyle its most popular models. This time he touched upon the 2020 model year Renault Duster crossover, beloved by many Russians, which the French promise to release on the market in winter. The second generation of the car will receive many external changes, seriously refresh the interior and improve the engine compartment characteristics. As for the cost of the new product, it will remain at the same, very affordable level, which means it will allow the SUV not only to maintain sales levels, but also, possibly, to gain new fans.

The crossover will receive a completely new body, which now looks fit and youthful. This effect is created by radically redesigned lighting elements, an abundance of plastic that plays both a decorative and protective role, as well as new relief transitions and smaller elements that are designed to favorably distinguish the appearance of the crossover from its downstream neighbors.

One of the most striking parts of the Renault Duster 2020 is the face. It is small, but set quite high. The hood lid received additional relief and slightly increased in size. The front part of this element, rounding out, turns into a “sleek” combination of “smiling” headlights with a section of daytime running lights and diode strips, as well as a radiator grille with two rows of oval chrome inserts. There will be room in the middle for a large brand icon.

Immediately below the radiator grille, a huge bumper begins, the lower part of which consists of two inserts. The silver plate in the center contains a huge rounded slot for the backup air intake, while the sidewalls made of unpainted plastic contain large round fog lamps and themselves serve the function of protecting the body from scratches.

The sides of the new model began to look more harmonious. Strict small windows with massive pillars fit perfectly into the design concept of a convex relief, ending with an enlarged skirt and simply huge wheel arches. Silver-plated roof rails and huge rounded mirrors create a bright image, and an abundance of plastic at the bottom of the body and on the rear edge of the front wings hints that the car is capable of showing itself not only on the roads.

The rear of the car, judging by the photo, is designed to attract young people to the ranks of Duster buyers, it is so bright. At the very top there is an almost invisible visor and a small glass with raised lower corners. Immediately below it there are square dimensional optics with white “crosses” of reverse signals, a small embossed door with a huge stamping for the license plate, as well as a high raised bumper, in the center of which there is an insert of the same shape and from the same material as in the front, with a slot for the exhaust pipe, along the edges the same protective black layer is visible, where several more optical signals are integrated. A nice addition will be parking assistants, which will be available in any configuration.

Salon

The interior of the new Renault Duster 2020 model year brings the car closer to more expensive representatives of the class. The finishing materials have been improved, among them it is worth noting some fabrics, leather, high-quality plastic and even small inclusions of metals. The entertainment system has also been improved, and the driver will receive several pleasant additional options, including starting the engine with a button.

Control and management bodies

The center console visually began to appear larger. Its upper part is decorated with a line of oblong deflectors with a chrome edging, immediately below which, in the center, there is a widescreen multimedia touch display surrounded by a small number of physical buttons. Below is a block of washers for working with the climate system.

Then all this goes into the central tunnel, which is neither wide nor high. It starts with a recess for small items, equipped with several connectors, then there is a technical panel with a rather large gear selector at the head, cup holders, and also a small, not very comfortable armrest.

All these shortcomings are compensated by a slightly brighter dashboard than before, as well as a steering wheel, which not only has additional buttons, but also the ability to adjust its position both horizontally and vertically.

The updated Duster will receive the same five seats, which will become more comfortable due to high-quality fabric or leather upholstery and soft filling. The front row will also receive developed lateral support, adjustable headrests and heating, while rear seat passengers will be content with only headrests and seat belts.

But in terms of cargo transportation, the car will compare favorably with many competitors. With the rear sofa transformed, the trunk will fit more than 1,600 liters of luggage!

Specifications

The updated Renault Duster 2020 will receive several power units running on different fuels. The diesel “one and a half” cars were slightly boosted, resulting in 95 and 115 “horses” at the output. The initial gasoline engine will be a 1.3-liter unit from the Arcana model with a capacity of 130 horsepower. An engine of the same volume with 150 horsepower is also offered, as well as a liter engine producing 118 horsepower. These engines will be paired with a manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

But buyers of cars with a two-liter 143-horsepower engine can count on an all-wheel drive system and choose between a manual and automatic transmission.

The test drive showed that in the city all the cars feel quite confident, but it only makes sense to drive off the road on vehicles with all-wheel drive.

Options and prices

The price of the new product should not increase very much and will start at 750 thousand rubles. For the most expensive of the five offered configurations you will need to pay about 1.2 million rubles.

Start of sales in Russia

Residents of Europe and some other countries will get acquainted with the car at the end of this year; as for the release date in Russia, this significant event will not happen earlier than spring, or even next summer, 2020.

Our media are already tired of asking this question to representatives of the French concern. When will Renault Duster 2019 be in Russia? To date, there is only one official answer from Renault Russia Distribution Director Anatoly Kalitsev. In a conversation with Russian journalists, a Renault representative said something like the following:

In our market, the current version of the model has not exhausted its potential, so it will last on the assembly line for at least a year and a half.

Considering that this announcement was made exactly a year ago, then there is very little time left to wait. Most likely, active preparation of the conveyor will begin this year. Moreover, while maintaining the “B0” platform, which is now called Global Access after a slight modernization, it will not be difficult to set up production. Indeed, today lines for this technological platform operate at two plants at once - Renault Russia in Moscow and AvtoVAZ in Togliatti.

In September 2017, Duster II was officially shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show under the Dacia brand. At the end of the same year, assembly began at the Romanian plant of the Renault concern. The first production cars went to dealers in the EU in January 2018.

In the spring of 2018, Dusters with the Renault nameplate began to roll out of the same Romanian plant. On March 30, sales of the new Renault Duster started in Ukraine. In addition to changing the Dacia logo to Renault, the model received a different radiator grille and slightly modified bumpers. Inside, the steering wheel, the shape of the air duct deflectors and other little things have changed.

In the summer of 2018, it became known that the Brazilian Renault plant in Curitiba was preparing serial production of the second generation Duster. Sales in Latin America are expected to begin this fall. It is the Brazilian version that will be as similar as possible to the Russian crossover specification.

In Russia, the delay in the start of production is due to good sales of the model. So in 2016, 44,001 units were sold, in 2017, 43,828 units. new crossovers of this model. In the first half of 2018, the manufacturer sold 21,290 cars. In fact, the Duster for Renault in Russia is the best-selling and most successful model. Therefore, the transition to a new generation of models will be done as carefully and slowly as possible, so as not to lose customers and not give up their market share to competitors. But the likelihood that the new model will appear in Russia in 2019 is quite high.

New Renault Duster 2018 year, whose photos flooded the Internet, is currently presented only to the European public. The presentation of a new product called Dacia Duster took place at the international motor show in Frankfurt on September 12, 2017.

According to the manufacturer's representatives, sales of the second generation of the budget crossover Duster will start in the EU before the end of the year. Duster 2018 price in Europe will not change significantly, that is, they will ask for a car from 10-11 thousand euros for the basic version. During the presentation of the new model, it was stated several times that the model would still remain the most affordable in its class, but the price would not change. In order to maintain the cost of the new generation of Duster, the designers decided to use the old “B0” platform; talk about a more expensive and modern modular CMF trolley remained at the level of rumors.

Appearance of the new Duster changed dramatically, but the designers had to work within the same dimensions, because the platform remained old. The large radiator grille has a very original look, completely new head optics with LED strips. The taillights are basically hello from the future. Huge roof rails have appeared on the roof, and now 17-inch wheels will be available to buyers. But the most interesting thing about the exterior of the new product can be seen from the side. If you look at the silhouette, you understand that there are much more changes here than it seems. Firstly, the windshield now has a sharper slope (which will have a positive effect on aerodynamics). Secondly, the window sill line has changed its height. Well, perhaps the most unusual thing is the front fenders with plastic inserts, which hints to us about the off-road capabilities and greater practicality of the model. Duster II interior changed beyond recognition. A completely new center console, a solid climate control unit with cool washers and screws. The touch monitor displays not only multimedia, navigation and rear view camera data, but also a projection image from all-round cameras! True, such a function will be available as an additional option. In addition, the touch monitor now displays compass and inclinometer data. The steering wheel not only changed its shape, but also began to move back and forth, plus height adjustment. There is nothing superfluous on the instrument panel - a tachometer, a speedometer and a small on-board computer screen in the middle. Engineers have redesigned the seats, now on a long journey there will be much more comfort. By the way, the mode switch for the all-wheel drive transmission has now become a substantial size and has moved behind the gearshift lever between the front seats. See photos of the salon below.

There is not much information about the trunk yet. Taking into account the fact that the dimensions of the car have remained virtually unchanged, the volume has remained approximately the same. Naturally, the version with all-wheel drive has a slightly smaller trunk.

In technical terms, there are not many changes. The body length turned out to be about 4.3 meters, with the same wheelbase. The approach angle is 30 and the departure angle is 33 degrees, plus ground clearance of 210 mm. That is, in terms of geometric cross-country ability, the model has not become worse. Which is good news for off-road enthusiasts.

The chassis and suspension remain the same. The settings may change, but the architecture and overall design have changed little. The rear still has the same drum brakes. All-wheel drive is based on the same electromagnetic clutch. The manufacturer placed its main emphasis on the introduction of new electronic systems. So, in addition to all-round cameras, systems for starting uphill and descending from the mountain (Hill Start Assist and Hill Descent Control) appeared. For the comfort of the driver and passengers, even climate control is provided.

Engine and transmission of the new Duster 2018 already known for the European market. This is a 1.2 liter petrol turbo engine developing up to 125 hp. with a very impressive torque and a 1.5-liter turbodiesel producing 110 horses. The mechanical gearbox options are the same, this is a 5-speed. (for 2WD versions) and a 5-speed option for all-wheel drive. But instead of a traditional automatic transmission, buyers in the EU will now be offered an EDC robotic automatic transmission. In our market, most likely, the same power units will remain, that is, 1.6 and 2.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline, plus diesel. But what will happen to the clearly outdated 4-band automatic transmission is still unknown. Perhaps it will be replaced with something more acceptable and modern.

When will the new Duster appear in Russia?

Of course, the car is very popular in our market. But the manufacturer will clearly not rush to launch the new product, since the old generation is also selling well. If we take as an analogy the situation with the appearance of the second generation Renault Logan, then the car took about 2 years from the European premiere to the Russian market. That is, a new generation of affordable crossover will not appear in Russia before the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019. Moreover, so far there have been no official statements from the Russian division of Renault.

The presentation of the updated 2018-2019 Dacia (Renault) Duster SUV took place at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which opened its doors to visitors just the other day. This is already the second generation of the popular model, sold in Europe under the Dacia brand, and in the markets of Russia, Asia and South America - with the classic Renault nameplate. In Germany, the version for the countries of the Old World is presented to the public, which will go on sale in early 2018. The global version, which is an almost exact copy of its European “brother,” will be available for purchase no earlier than the end of 2018 or the beginning of 2019.

In Russia, one of the leaders of our market, sold under the name, will appear in an updated form, most likely, no earlier than 2019. The Russian version, in terms of exterior and interior design, will be exactly like the new Dacia model, so using its example we will look at the entire range of updates assigned to the crossover during the change of generations. Body design

The “second” Duster is based on the same B0 platform, successfully used. In this regard, there was no need to expect any noticeable adjustments to the external dimensions of the body, and they did not happen. However, the manufacturer has not yet published exact figures, limiting itself to rounded values. The length of the updated crossover stretched to 4.3 meters, the width of the car was 1.8 meters. The vehicle's geometric cross-country ability has slightly deteriorated due to a decrease in the departure angle from 36 to 33 degrees. The approach angle remained the same - 30 degrees, just as the ground clearance remained unchanged, remaining at 210 mm.

When drawing the external appearance, the designers did not start revolutions, trying to maintain the outlines and proportions that attracted thousands of fans. An inexperienced car enthusiast will not be able to immediately distinguish the new version of the model from the pre-reform from the outside; the more surprising is the fact that almost all the body panels of the 2nd generation SUV are completely new. Visually, the changes seem not so large-scale - the radiator grille received a new design, the head optics acquired a slightly different configuration, the bumpers underwent slight correction, and the hood relief changed slightly. Among other innovations, we note seriously transformed rear lights with a new design in the form of a sight, a reformatted tailgate, plastic trims behind the front fenders with 4WD symbols and turn signal units, black triangular sections at the base of the side mirrors.

From a side view, details such as the raised sill line and the striking new design of the 17-size rims will not escape your attention. But another innovation is not so easy to notice - the lower edge of the windshield has moved 100 mm away from the driver, and the inclination of the glass itself and the side pillars has increased accordingly. According to the manufacturer, such a solution should add more space to riders.

New interior quality

If the appearance of the Dacia-Renault Duster has changed in small ways, but the concept has remained the same, then the interior of the SUV has been modified in full. All aspects were touched upon - interior architecture, seats, finishing materials, available equipment. And, most importantly, each of the improvements looks necessary and appropriate, so, in general, the interior now looks more interesting and original.

One of the main items on the list of updates was a revision of the front panel. From now on, new deflectors of the ventilation system are registered on it, and in the center there are three of them, and not two, as before. Interestingly, the modernized climate control unit, located at the bottom of the console, has acquired three round functional elements in unison with the ventilation nozzles. This consistency makes a pleasing visual impression. The horizontal block of buttons located directly above the climate control panel fits perfectly into the overall configuration.


Remodeled interior

In addition to the above innovations, the interior of the Renault Duster 2 can boast of a multimedia system screen that has climbed a little higher and turned towards the driver, a new four-spoke steering wheel with adjustment in two planes (40 mm in height and 50 mm in reach), an improved instrument cluster, and more comfortable front seats. with a new frame and a cushion extended by 20 mm. The transformations are not limited to this - the appearance of a compartment at the very bottom of the console forced the developers to move the off-road mode control puck to the inter-passenger tunnel and at the same time move the handbrake handle to the right. To top it all off, the quality of the finishing materials used has increased.


New console

The list of equipment available for the new product, appearing in top trim levels, includes climate control, an all-round visibility system, keyless entry and push-button engine start, lumbar support for the driver’s seat, and curtain airbags. The range of electronic assistants has been replenished with automatic switching of headlights and monitoring of blind spots.

After reforming, the luggage compartment of the Dacia-Renault Duster said goodbye to 30 liters of usable volume. Now front-wheel drive versions can accommodate a maximum of 445 liters of cargo behind the backs of the rear seats, and 376 liters for all-wheel drive versions.

Technical characteristics of Renault Duster in a new body 2018-2019

In Europe, the line of 2nd generation Duster engines will consist of the following units:

  • Gasoline “aspirated” 1.6 SCe with a power of 115 hp;
  • Gasoline turbo engine 1.2 TCe with output of 125 hp;
  • Diesel 1.5 dCi 90 hp;
  • Diesel 1.5 dCi 110 hp

All engines are paired with a manual gearbox, but front-wheel drive versions with a 110-horsepower diesel engine also have a preselective EDC robot.

In Russia, the new Renault Duster will receive “its own” set of power units, which will most likely include the engines of its predecessor. These are petrol fours of 1.6 (114 hp) and 2.0 (143 hp) liters, as well as a 1.5-liter diesel with a power output of 109 hp.

No changes were made to the chassis design. Versions with front-wheel drive have a semi-independent suspension at the rear, while versions with 4WD have an independent suspension. In all-wheel drive Dusters, by default only the front wheels “row”; thrust is sent back when the electromagnetic clutch is blocked.

The latest version of the most popular SUV in Russia from Renault has received many new design elements both in the exterior and interior. Surprisingly, the car has become both more brutal and more stylish:
