Fallout 4 add-ons wasteland workshop walkthrough. Help for settlements

Although the Wasteland Workshop add-on did not cause delight among fans of the Fallout series upon its release, over time many players came to appreciate it. The main, so to speak, “problem” of Wasteland Workshop was that most gamers expected story-based DLC from Bethesda with new locations, quests and characters, but received only some elements for building settlements.

However, in fact, Wasteland Workshop is able to greatly diversify the game by adding many interesting elements to it.

Most interesting element in Wasteland Workshop cells- structures that can be erected in a settlement and wait for a hostile or friendly creature to get there.

In total, there are three types of cells in the add-on - small (catches cats, dogs, mole rats or mutant hounds), medium (wild ghouls, gorillas, soldiers, raiders, super mutants, insects) and large (brahmins, deathclaws, rad-deer, swampers , radscorpions, yao-gai).

The cells installed in the settlement are the best way to farm various resources dropped from creatures, as well as gain experience by fighting raiders, shooters, super mutants and some types of animals that come to the aid of the “prisoner”. For example, you will no longer need to search for rad deer throughout the Commonwealth to collect fried meat from them, since you can set the required number of cells in the settlement.

The cells containing the hostile creature are the most The best way attract attacks from factions or animals to the settlement, which allows you to gain a lot of experience by shooting back from the attackers.

How to Build Animal Cages in Wasteland Workshop

Each cell requires a certain amount of resources for its creation (usually steel, copper, gears and a fourth element - different for each type of creature), as well as energy from the generator. As soon as you connect the cage to the generator, it will begin its work. You can find out that someone caught is sitting in a cage by the slammed door and the sounds coming from there.

To open the door, the cage must be disconnected from its power source, so only connect it to the generator via a switch. The cage does not have to be in a visible place: creatures will respawn there, even if it is completely covered by walls.

A creature of any rank can appear in a cell, regardless of the player’s level. Even at low levels you can release a general marksman or a mythical deathclaw from the cage. So you should take care in advance of sufficient protection so that the released aggressor does not kill you. To do this, you can lay out several mines before leaving the cage or place turrets around it.

Each cell can catch creatures countless times, but after each trigger it will need to be repaired, which will also require materials, but in smaller quantities. For example, if to create a cage with raiders you need 10 pieces of steel, 2 copper and 6 pieces of screw, to repair it you need 1 unit. steel, 1 copper and 1 screw.

What cells to build

If your goal is to attract attacks on the settlement, place raiders, shooters and mutants in the location. This will allow you to quickly gain experience by repelling attacks, as well as collect unique weapons and armor from legendary enemies, which are sure to be present in almost every attack on a settlement.

In addition, weapons and armor collected from raiders or shooters can be used to arm settlers or use them for sale, exchanging unnecessary things for rubbish for construction.

For construction and repair large number cells, the availability of components is also important. And if by the middle of the game there is an abundance of caps for shooter cages and screws for raiders, then with pieces of meat it will be somewhat more difficult: to get them you need to track down an animal or insect and then kill it.

You can make your task easier by standing in a chain of cells, for example, Razorclaw -> Brahmin -> Super Mutant or Carrot -> Rad Deer -> Yao Guy -> Death Claw. So, growing required quantity carrots in the settlement, you can build cages for rad deer, the meat of which can be used to catch Yao Gai. In turn, Yao Gai meat is necessary for Deathclaw cells.

Beta Wave Emitter

Only three types of creatures can be caught in a cage, which will by default be peaceful towards the Survivor and settlers. These are cats, brahmins and gorillas.

You can pacify other animals using a special device - a beta wave emitter. If you install and activate it in a settlement, all animals released from their cages will not only behave peacefully, but will also help you repel attacks. Each such creature gives a small bonus to the defense of the settlement, without affecting the number of possible settlers:

  • bloody vile: 3,
  • Brahmin: 0 (gives a bonus to resources),
  • cat: 0 (increases happiness),
  • death claw: 10,
  • wild ghoul: 4,
  • gorilla: 10 (increases happiness),
  • dog: 5 (increases happiness),
  • swamp: 6,
  • mole rats: 4,
  • mongrel: 4,
  • mutant hound: 5,
  • radroach: 1,
  • radscorpio: 7,
  • rad-deer: 2,
  • Yao Gai: 7.

The amount of added defense does not depend on the type of creature: for example, both a regular and mythical Death Claw will give the same 10 points of defense. Although, when attacking a settlement, the mythical Death Claw, of course, will bring much more benefit.

You need to be careful when using animals for defense: if attackers destroy the beta wave emitter or the generator that powers it, all creatures will immediately become hostile. Tamed animals do not fight against their own species, but, on the contrary, attract attacks from enemies of the same species who want to free their “brother.” Therefore, to protect settlements with the help of tamed creatures, it is necessary to build a good defense.

Moreover, the creatures various types can attack each other, even when the emitter is turned on, so think in advance which animals you want to use for protection.

To build a beta wave emitter, you will need the Animal Friend and Wasteland Speaker perks.

Shooters, raiders and super mutants cannot be tamed - they can only be kept in cages for the number of attacks on the settlement or destroyed.

What is referred to as Wasteland Workshop didn't bring much new to the game in terms of gameplay. However, its volume is also not calculated in gigabytes, as in the case Automatron or future Far Harbor. However, this addition will significantly diversify the game for those who loves to do construction and still enjoys it improving the life of the residents of the Commonwealth.

Multiple guides (as was the case with the Automatron DLC) in this case will be replaced with a review innovations and useful features th.

Features of the Wasteland Workshop add-on The point is that if PC gamers have been able to diversify construction with the help of mods since the release, then the owners of the console versions were left “overboard.” For them, Wasteland Workshop really became a real find.

New in the construction of Fallout 4 Wasteland Workshop

Constructions

Concrete structures– have now appeared on a par with wood and metal. Moreover, concrete structures have received angular shapes and curves, which allows you to create buildings of more interesting shapes and previously unavailable.

Concrete railingsnew element to add aesthetics to the design. Almost all of them can be placed in horizontal plane, but there is also a curved version that can be attached to floor panels.

Concrete doors– in this category are doors with power drive. Such doors can only be opened if a power source is connected. If the power source is turned off, the door will be closed. If you place a switch between the power source and the door, you can control closing and opening remotely. And yes, such doors can be attached to wooden structures, and not just to concrete ones.

New decorations and utilities for the interior

Among the new elements of decor and interior in general, such as lighting, trophies, flags, paintings, etc., a very useful and original innovation should be noted.

IN Fallout 4 Wasteland Workshop cages for wild animals, gamma wave emitters so that captured animals could be tamed, arenas and much more were also added.

. Wasteland Workshop received different ratings from players, opinions were divided almost in half, some considered this addition good, and some considered it a failure. Let's try to figure out which of them is right.

For convenience, we beg you to use summary :

Description of dlc Wasteland Workshop

The developers announced the first three additions to Fallout 4 almost simultaneously and players were a little wary of the description Wasteland Workshop. The addition, which was released on April 12, 2016, was described incredibly sparingly. One of the reasons for the wariness of players was that many of the innovations that were announced by players with PC versions had been done a long time ago with the help of free mods. And other innovations, such as capturing living creatures and new construction features, were not yet entirely clear.

A huge disadvantage was the lack of Wasteland DLC Workshop storyline, the presence of crafting, new buildings and arenas makes this DLC a regular construction addition, but I want more mysteries and stories, new characters and mutants, new cool guns and a new power armor, the soul requires these elements, but they are not in Wasteland Workshop.

What does Wasteland Workshop add to the game?

But you can walk around and around for a very long time, so let’s still try to find bright moments in this DLC for Fallout 4 and consider what it added to the game, maybe not everything is so bad.

New in construction

If players who have the PC version of the game installed have long been saturated with new features in construction, with the help of free mods, then players who use consoles simply do not have such mods, so they were waiting for this addition much more than the players of the PC versions. With this addition, the following construction innovations have been introduced into the game:

  • Firstly, you can now build buildings from concrete;
  • Secondly, this addition introduced many elements that use electricity, so it is logical that with the help of this addition you can install a nuclear generator;
  • Thirdly, the player can place a neon sign on any building. PC players are very happy about this, console players are the same, but this innovation may lead to slight system slowdowns.

Ability to catch mutants and raiders

In addition to innovations in construction, another interesting opportunity has appeared, now main character can set traps that can catch anyone, from a raider to a deathclaw. The traps are powered by generators, after all, these are mutants of Fallout 4, there are no living creatures that simple bars could hold.

Naturally, different creatures need different cages and even bait. From the fact that they are powered by electricity, it becomes clear that they are placed next to any settlement of the main character. After the creature is caught, the main character is free to decide its fate.

Arena battles in Fallout 4

You can build a kind of coliseum around the cells and pit mutants against each other on it, or even punish one of your residents by sending him to the arena.

Help for settlements

It is much better to use captured mutants and other creatures for the benefit of the protagonist’s settlements. Captured creatures can serve as guards for your settlements, this applies to mutants who have mutated themselves, super mutants, raiders, shooters, are not suitable for such work. In order for the creatures to become guards, you need to “marinate” them using a special emitter. This emitter is built from 4 parts of a crystal, which is not easy to find in Fallout 4 locations, and you also need to learn 2 perks, these are the “Animal Friend” and the “Wasteland Whisperer” perk.

Not long ago the second addition to Fallout 4, which has the name Wasteland Workshop . As for the gameplay, practically nothing has changed here. However, players who enjoy building in Fallout 4, it is worth reading this manual.

Updated construction in Wasteland Workshop

Constructions

Now on a par with metal and wooden structures appeared concrete . In addition, concrete structures have curved and angular shapes, due to which buildings of various shapes can be created. Previously it was impossible to do this.

Concrete floors

  • Functionally the same as wooden ones. With their help you can create a foundation and level the surface. In addition, the concrete floor can be replaced with a wooden one. With this feature you can, for example, create a floor in the form of a chessboard. The rounded and angular floors have no analogues.

Concrete roofs

  • They are divided into mesh and solid. If you prefer mesh ones, then natural light will penetrate your building.

Concrete walls

  • Much stronger than metal or wood. There are also narrow walls, rounded shapes and pillars, making construction more flexible and making it much easier to fill in uneven areas and gaps. Immersion available concrete walls directly into the ground, this way you can build a building without a foundation.

Concrete stairs

  • Similar to walls, they can be sunk directly into the ground. And by combining several staircases, you can create unusual structures.

Concrete railings

  • They add aesthetics to the game. Both regular horizontal and curved options are available.

Concrete doors

  • Power operated doors fall into this category. They open only with a connected power source. If you turn it off, the door will close. It is possible to install a switch with which you can open and close the door remotely. Please note that such doors can be installed not only concrete structures, but also wooden.

New interior elements and decorations

In addition to lighting, paintings, flags, trophies, etc. It is worth noting one original and quite useful innovation.

Letters

  • Here you can only choose Arabic numbers and letters of the Latin alphabet. Unfortunately, there is no Russian. With this innovation, you can leave inscriptions, for example, on boxes so as not to forget what is where. Or use it for signs and announcements. In addition, you can choose from ready-made words, as well as use different colors and even neon designs.

On top of everything else, now there is Street lights, fire pits, oil lamps, pet bowls, candles and more.

Energy

In the energy section (Nutrition) appeared nuclear generator , with which you can produce 100 units. energy, but for this You must level up Science to level 4. One construction of such a generator can replace several conventional ones, and will create a large energy system.

It is also worth noting the Disinfecting Arch, which is located in the Nutrition – Miscellaneous section. Despite the fact that this section mainly contains cosmetic items, it is quite useful. By connecting the arch to a power source, the air passing through it will be cleared of radiation contamination.

Defense

In Wasteland Workshop New traps have been added. They have one peculiarity - they cannot be repaired.. Traps are used in floor panels, so they are activated only when pressure or other pressure is applied to them. Be careful, because you yourself may fall into your own traps.

Certainly one of the most distinctive featuresFallout 4 compared to its predecessors is the ability to equip its own settlements. Such an apocalyptic version The Sims. You can unnoticed spend more time doing this than actually exploring the radioactive wastelands themselves. It was this aspect that I relied on Bethesda Softworks in the new, second addition called Wasteland Workshop. And I made a mistake...

Unlike previous DLC , the new add-on does not introduce a new chain of quests into the game and this, in my opinion, is its main drawback. The developers limited themselves to only expanding the existing capabilities for arranging settlements. New decorative elements were added: for example, neon signs, new scarecrows and even a plot of land for growing vegetables and fruits indoors. It seems good, but the moderators have already managed to create much more content, cooler and more diverse. And free...

The main feature Fallout 4: Wasteland Workshop is the construction of cage traps for local fauna and more. We install such a cell, connect it to the generator, and after some time (from 2 to 7 game days) an animal or a person wanders into it. There are cages to capture Brahmins, Mutant Hounds, Raiders, and even Deathclaws. The cells can be surrounded by walls, traps can be placed around them, and in this way a kind of arena can be built. We send one of the settlers there, open the cages and observe what is happening. To be honest, this is not an acquired taste.

By the way, wild animals can not only be used as meat in such battles, but also tamed by installing a special beta wave emitter within the population. So the same death claw, for example, can become a faithful guardian of your locality.

All in all, Wasteland Workshop Doesn't qualify as a full-fledged DLC. It's more like a patch that inexplicably sells for $5. Add Bethesda at least a small chain of quests, everything would not be so sad. And the theme is great: hunting wild animals, battles in arenas. Was it really difficult to come up with a little story under this all? Add a new set of armor in the hunting style, in the end. Eh... Now all hope is for Far Harbor, coming out in May.
