In our activities, we distinguish two types of lampshades, lampshades of given sizes and lampshades of arbitrary shape. Let's consider the first option, the process of creating a lampshade of given dimensions using a mold, which consists of five stages:
1. creating a form
2. glass blowing
3. stress relief or cooling
4. sandblasting
5. cutting

Creating a Form

In our practice, we have identified 4 types of forms (you can read more about forms, their types and properties in this article), in this case we will use a wooden form made of oak.

And now, we collect hot glass mass onto a glass blowing tube, then alternate a set of additional layers of glass with air injection, obtain the required mass and blow it into the mold.

We distribute the layers of glass on the workpiece in such a way as to obtain walls of uniform thickness in the finished product.

We lower the workpiece into a closed mold and begin to blow air, rotating the product around its axis.

We blow in air and rotate the product until it acquires the required shape; of course, we take into account the cooling rate of the glass, otherwise the workpiece may not be inflated to the specified size.

Relieving tension

We cool the product in the oven with a specified temperature reduction mode. The cooling mode depends on the size and wall thickness of the product. For some of our products, the stress relief time can be several days, but it should be remembered that for large products, the cooling period can reach several months.

One of the most simple processes in our business. Under air pressure, spray sand or other abrasive material onto the surface of the product, remove upper layer. This way we get a matte surface.
