Construction stores have been selling semi-finished products for quite some time - wooden shutter doors for pine furniture. I've been eyeing them for a long time.
In Poland I saw very simple and beautiful options, buy a collapsible rack and cover it with such door panels. I collected different variants applications (about 150 pictures from the Internet), I found a manufacturer in Ukraine, here is his link, http://woodtehnic.com.ua/ua/, and in supermarkets there are the same Polish ones. Some information from the Internet on the application and sizes of standard doors:
Louvre doors are used mainly in the manufacture of furniture as facades. Natural ventilation the internal volume of furniture makes them ideal solution for a closet - the things in it do not “suffocate”. In addition, cabinets with a front made of louvered doors are not susceptible to moths! Moths do not like fresh dry air, and prefer damp, warm and unventilated corners.
Classic options storage of things are cabinet cabinets and wardrobes. In both the first and second cases, it is possible to use louvered doors: using furniture hinges (cabinet doors open in the usual way), or using guides for sliding doors. Recently, here, as in the West, dressing rooms are becoming increasingly popular. As a rule, they adjoin directly to the bedroom, and louvered doors are ideal for separating these two spaces. In this case, you can use the accordion system.
Louvre doors have found their application in bathrooms. They will look great as facades of bathroom furniture, and when used to cover pipes in a toilet or water heating unit, they will prevent the appearance of condensation.
Make yours kitchen furniture Louvre doors will also help make your home different from others. In addition to their beautiful appearance, due to the presence of gaps between the slats, they will prevent reproduction food moth, which, as mentioned earlier, likes to hide in damp, unventilated places.
Window decoration and balcony doors always an important and relevant topic for anyone country house. Decorative shutters are not very common in our country, although in many countries shutters are immediately and permanently fixed and are considered part of the house, unlike draperies and curtains. They protect the room from hot sun rays, give a finished look to the outside of the window, decorate the appearance of the house, and make the window design very elegant.
Considering that louvred doors provide free air circulation, it is recommended to use them when finishing heaters and radiators. The wood is thoroughly dried before processing, which ensures high quality ready-made doors: they will not move or become damaged after some time after the start of use.
Inner side the door also looks impressive and, if desired, can be used as an external one. You can easily build a screen from them that will be both light and strong. Such a piece of furniture will bring a special flavor to the interior of the house, and, just as importantly, it will be very functional.
The surfaces of louvered doors can be glazed, i.e. cover with transparent glossy paint, which will create a feeling of depth; varnish to highlight the color and texture of the wood; or stain to change the shade of the canvas and give it the appearance of a valuable species. Therefore, louvered doors are universal - after appropriate processing they will harmoniously fit into any interior. And, as you know, products made from natural wood can easily be “reanimated”: defects that appear during operation can be easily eliminated

Sections of the article:

For quite a long time, blinds have been used not only for decorating windows, but also in the manufacture of furniture, and are also produced as one of the types of interior doors. The grille is made from different materials. It can be wood or plastic. The colors used for decoration are completely different, it all depends on the tastes and preferences of the owner of the apartment or house.
Louvre doors have many advantages, one of them is that they do not completely block the space between rooms. Despite the fact that sound insulation suffers greatly from this, the space becomes visually more unified and larger than it actually is. Many people achieve this effect when decorating their apartment or house.

Another undoubted advantage will be the ease of use of louvered doors. If one of the lamellas breaks, you can easily replace it with another. Due to the peculiarity of its design, such a door allows air to pass through itself, which makes it easy to ventilate the room from other rooms.

Also, louvered doors have a very original design, will fit under modern style interior The only thing you should remember when using such a product is that they do not like humidity. Periodic treatment of the gratings with special varnish and wet cleaning will only benefit them, allowing them to preserve their former beauty for as long as possible.

The cost of an interior louvered door may vary depending on the material chosen and required sizes. Despite this, their price is lower than that of conventional doors.

Interior louvered doors, in addition to their direct purpose, are actively used as decorative element premises, an example of use in the interior can be seen in the photo in our article.

Areas of application for blinds

Freestanding interior structures

In our country, this kind of performance is rare, but it is very popular in the West. Available in the form of swing and sliding doors.

Bathroom

Louvered doors are also used in bathroom interiors as furniture doors along with plasterboard construction. Grilles in such rooms can be wooden or plastic. Good for wet areas due to the possibility of constant ventilation.

Toilet

Using the design of blinds, you can easily and beautifully hide communications from prying eyes. For this purpose, a specially equipped cabinet made of louvered doors is used, which is equipped with different shelves. They can easily accommodate any household items and cleaning supplies.

The applications do not end there, they can also be used as screens or partitions of various sizes needed to divide a space. And of course, blinds can well hide ventilation or radiators that are in the room and do not fit into the created interior.

Main advantages

Easy installation. It is very easy to install it yourself. You only need to have with you special fittings and a set of accessories included in the sales kit for the louvered door. It will also be easy to dismantle the structure if necessary.

Low cost

Unlike a regular door, it uses much less material and therefore the price of such a product is very different from other types door designs. In general, the cost of a louvered door depends on a number of factors. The material used in manufacturing plays a big role. Wooden doors will cost more than plastic ones. In any case, louvered doors are cheaper than regular doors.

Universal use

Louvered doors can be accordion-style, hinged, or sliding. Are great solution for use in small spaces. In addition, they have a beautiful appearance and fit perfectly into any interior style.

Good functionality

Thanks to the presence of gratings, they have good performance and safety during use.

Wooden louvered doors

Louvre doors made from natural wood. Most often they are installed in living rooms or bedrooms. They look truly impressive and stylish in them.

You should know that it is better not to install wooden louvered doors in bathrooms due to the poor moisture resistance of wood.

Such doors are most often made of pine. Thanks to this, on door leaf adheres well to paint, varnishes and others Decoration Materials. Natural material It always looks great indoors, and it also has good performance characteristics.

If desired, you can purchase doors made from valuable species tree. The price of such products, of course, will be much higher than products made from conventional materials, but they will also last much longer.

Plastic louvered doors

Made from plastic, such doors are well suited for use in the bathroom or kitchen, as they are not afraid of moisture and are very easy to care for. In appearance, plastic roller doors are not very different from wooden doors and are in good demand among buyers due to their low price.

Both wooden and plastic blinds There are different types of doors, but the most common design is made of narrow slats with a large gap between them. Thanks to such gaps, air and light pass through the grille well. Such designs are very light and durable, used in the kitchen or wardrobe.

Lattice doors with wide, thick slats that overlap each other are generally installed on large cabinets. You can also try them on for decoration in the toilet. Such doors look beautiful and original; light does not pass through them well, which must be taken into account.

These and many other louvered doors are presented by the company " Leroy Merlin" Big the lineup and various color solutions will allow you to choose interior doors from lattice to suit any modern design premises and decorate it with their interesting and bright design.

Leroy Merlin offers a selection of louvered doors from almost 60 models presented, consisting of different materials and designs. Painted models are also available. These louvered doors have big choice colors and shades and can be used in a wide variety of style solutions interior

Shutter shutters on windows, screens made of thin slats and other louvered structures are a common sight in European interiors. But in our area, shutter doors are still a novelty, so it’s worth getting to know them better. After all, such doors emphasize the beauty of any modern interior and never go out of style, they are almost like small black dress from Chanel.

Louvre door design

Blind doors got their name by analogy with window blinds, since they also consist of many slats of the same width. As in curtains, slats can occupy both horizontal and vertical positions.

Depending on the opening system, louvered doors are divided into:

  • swing doors are essentially ordinary doors, in which the panels are replaced by a set of blinds; such doors are separated horizontally by a wide crossbar;

    Simple shutter doors do not draw attention to themselves and almost merge with the wall

  • sliding - consist of a strapping frame and internal filling from planks; they move to the sides of the doorway;

    Sliding louvered doors are especially suitable for access to the terrace

  • accordions are vertical blinds, and the slats in them are connected to each other by hinges, and there is no frame;

    The accordion door allows you to effectively use space, since the door open door remains in the opening and does not interfere with the passage

  • roller blinds are louvered curtains that, when opened, rise and are wound onto a base (like roller blinds).

    The blinds are so compact that closed state completely hidden in the top box

These types of doors differ significantly in design, but always retain common feature- consist of lamellas.

Swing and sliding panels Available with stationary or movable slats. The first option is cheaper, but the second makes it possible to regulate the degree of light transmission and control air permeability.

Types of shutter doors

The appearance, convenience and durability of doors of this type depend on the material used. Classic models found in wood, plastic and metal. Roller shutters are made only of metal, and accordions are made of plastic. But each of the materials shows its advantages if the doors made from it are placed in the right place.

Wooden louvered doors

Wood is a traditional material, and experienced carpenters make doors of any design from it. An analogue is built from wood paneled doors using blinds. And the slats are attached either to a separate frame or to a common door frame.

The device of a louvered panel with fixed slats is suitable for a wardrobe

Advantages of wooden shutter doors:

  • natural natural material;
  • the designs fit well into any interior style;
  • through closed doors penetrates Fresh air and warmth;
  • lightness of design: it places less load on the hinges and door frame, which contributes to their durability;
  • simply replace a broken lamella with a new one: the repair is invisible;
  • wood is painted different colors both preserving the texture and completely covering it;
  • the opportunity to assemble a harmonious set: shutter doors are also made for cabinets, cabinets, there are internal shutters for windows, and screens.

Wooden louvered doors - perfect option for enclosing a sleeping niche in one-room apartment or studio. They will reliably hide the bed, but will not interfere with normal air exchange.

Dark wooden blinds look especially good in interiors with wood trim and furniture

Disadvantages of a wooden louvered door:

  • wood is prone to changes in shape, so strong door assembled with a wide horizontal bridge, which makes it more massive;
  • it lets in the smell, so placing it in the kitchen is a bad idea;
  • thin slats are afraid high humidity and require careful treatment with oil or varnish;
  • models with wide gaps between the slats do not provide the proper level of privacy.

Wooden shutter doors will last a long time in a bedroom or nursery, but they are absolutely not suitable as entrance doors or for wet areas.

If you plan to use louvered doors in your home, choose models with oil impregnation and good tinting, make sure there are no knots on the slats. It is better not to use pine doors in the nursery and hallway: dents appear on soft wood. Give preference to hard varieties: ash, beech, walnut, oak.

By knocking on the good lamella wooden door, you will hear a characteristic ringing sound.

Louvered doors made of painted MDF

Painted MDF was developed as a low-cost alternative to solid wood. It is safer than chipboard, as it contains fewer binding components, and is more moisture resistant than wood (due to impregnation with paraffin and lignin). MDF is available in the form flat slabs, so it is easy to cut into parts of any shape.

This allows you to create analogues of wooden louvered doors, as well as come up with exclusive samples. Blind doors with paneled inserts made of wavy slats look attractive. It is easy to assemble round louvred doors of any diameter from painted MDF: from a cat door to a full-fledged front entrance.

The best option louvered doors in the bathroom - painted MDF

Painted MDF louvered doors are not susceptible to torsion from moisture, so they are installed in wet areas and in the kitchen. The material is tinted in any desired color, achieving an exact match with the furniture, floor or baseboard. The only drawback is that they are heavier than models made from thin wooden planks.

There is a limitation in the size of the openwork insert made of MDF lamellas - 900x900 mm. If the door is higher, then the canvas is diluted with wide impost strips; if wider, a thin vertical strip is placed in the center. It is worth noting that for wooden louvered doors these restrictions are even stricter.

Plastic shutter doors

Both traditional shutter doors and “accordion” models with vertical slats are assembled from plastic. The version with a horizontal arrangement is distinguished by wide slats and the absence of a characteristic texture, but in expensive models it is imitated. The slats of plastic models are movable: unlike wooden ones, they are not glued into the grooves.

Plastic blinds can be safely used in the bathroom, and best of all - in the form of partitions and shutters

The main advantages of such plastic doors compared to wooden ones are complete moisture resistance and low price. Doors with horizontal blinds suitable for framing a panoramic wall with access to the terrace. They will protect the room from prying eyes and will not suffer from rain. Their main disadvantage is a shorter service life and a tendency for white models made of low-quality plastic to develop yellowness.

Plastic louvered doors can adequately decorate the front entrance to the living room

A popular option for plastic doors is an accordion of vertical slats. Its slats are thin, and it is difficult to make an accordion out of wood (especially with glass inserts), so a lightweight polymer is used for it. Accordion doors make it possible to fully utilize the space of small rooms.

The main disadvantage of the “accordion” is the many connections and fragility of the plastic. Over time, such a door becomes flimsy, warps and loses fragments. It is advisable to install plastic blinds in rarely used rooms: utility rooms, utility rooms, technical rooms. When purchasing these doors, make sure that the slats are not too thin and that they move smoothly.

Accordion-style shutter doors are even made from glass, but the panels will be wider than plastic or wooden ones

In rare cases, the accordion door is made of hardboard or tempered glass. If your interior features a special door, be sure to consider the option with transparent or matte slats.

Louver doors made of painted metal

Metal louvered doors are not used in apartment interiors, but are found in country houses, garages or country houses, where there are high floor-to-ceiling windows. The main purpose of louvered roller shutters is protection, noise and heat insulation of the room, so they are installed outside the building and only in tandem with a regular door, most often with double-glazed windows. This entry option is popular in shops and shopping centers.

The design of metal roller shutter doors allows them to quickly roll up, giving access to the main door

Louvered doors made of painted metal are made in the form of swing doors. Thanks to painting, they resemble wooden blinds, are not afraid of moisture, are durable and strong. But they are not installed as interior ones due to the large weight, which requires reinforced hinges and appropriate door frame.

Reliable protective metal shutter doors look more solid than conventional roller shutters

In an industrial design style interior, such metal doors can become a real highlight.. But traditionally they are installed outside.

Where are louvered doors used?

Since shutter doors are made from fundamentally different materials, their scope of application is wide. They are appropriate both in public technical building, and in stylish home interior. The main thing is to use the advantages of louvered doors: light and air permeability, lightness and non-standard design.

Louvered doors for dressing room

Things are stored in the dressing room, so it is provided with good ventilation so that it does not appear there. bad smell, the moth did not start.

Folding louvered doors will help you create a dressing room in a wall niche without taking up much space when opened

Dressing room (or spacious built-in wardrobe) is a private area, and they try to make the door to it invisible. Wooden blinds are painted using an inexpensive spray gun. Choose the same paint as the walls to ensure you get the exact color you want.

IN dressing room select wooden louvered doors: from pine or other budget wood. Since they are used 2-3 times a day, such structures will last longer.

Are you planning to paint your louvered doors? light color- make sure that there are no knots or dark spots on the wood that are difficult to paint over.

Louvered doors for technical rooms

A storage room for storing equipment, a boiler room, a utility room, a laundry room and similar rooms remain closed almost 99% of the time. Therefore, louvered doors are ideal for them: they will provide ventilation and provide heat flow into unheated rooms. And in boiler rooms they also increase the safety of home residents by preventing gas from accumulating in the room.

Louvered doors dark color look monolithic, but at the same time provide excellent room ventilation

For technical premises plastic shutter doors are suitable. This material is non-flammable (important for a boiler room), easy to clean, and not afraid of moisture (fumes from wet rags and sponges can damage wooden slats, but not plastic ones). With rare use, such doors will last for many years.

If plastic roller shutter doors absolutely do not suit your design, it is better to take inexpensive wooden ones and treat them with a good hydrophobic compound. And if the weight of the structure doesn’t bother you, it’s made of painted MDF.

Interior louvered doors

IN living rooms install wooden shutter doors or models made of painted MDF. These materials are easier to remake in the desired color; they become unobtrusive and style-forming elements of the interior. Durable and shock-resistant, they will withstand intensive use without harm.

Floor-to-ceiling louvered doors - great option for a mobile partition in a studio apartment

Louvered doors are also made in the form of a sliding screen and serve to visually divide the space into functional zones.

If you want louvered doors to fit perfectly into your interior, order them custom production. This way you will get optimally matching canvases with different systems openings (sliding to the living room, hinged to the bedroom, accordion to the pantry), as well as, if necessary, facades for technical niches, wardrobes and bedside tables.

Louvre doors allow sounds and smells to pass through. Therefore, if privacy is important, then install blank panels in the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom or with glass inserts with striped frosting. For other rooms, you can choose doors of a similar design.

Have you been advised to install shutter doors in the bathroom? Louvre doors in the bathroom can really reduce the humidity in the room, but if you don't live alone, it will be better to install traditional blind panels with ventilation holes in the bottom panel.

White louvered doors fit perfectly into an interior with a touch of American classics Due to the light weight of the canvas, louvered doors-books are durable Louvre doors can become wall panels Unlike conventional louvered doors, this model has slats not at an angle, but vertically If you install such doors on the balcony, the room will begin to resemble a tropical bungalow Unobtrusively shining through the slats of the shutter doors, the clothes in the dressing room become an interior decoration An excellent tandem of swing and sliding doors in one interior

Manufacturing of louvered doors

Manufacturers offer many ready-made options shutter doors different designs and design, but you can also assemble them to order in a specialized workshop. Prices for most models are affordable, and there is no need to make them yourself.

Wooden louvered doors are available in almost any size

Although a craftsman with experience in assembling panel doors will be able to make louvered ones, and an experienced welder can build metal ones. When creating such a door, the main trick is to select identical grooves in the vertical bars, corresponding to the width and thickness of the lamella and at a given angle. Therefore, carpenters use templates that limit the cutting freedom of the cutter and set the right step between the grooves.

Templates for drilling grooves in wooden louvered doors help speed up the process of making blinds

If the width of the lamella is equal to the width of the beam, the groove must be made smaller, and the tenon on the plank itself must be cut off (as in the picture). This complicates the manufacturing process of classic louvered doors.

Let's consider an option where the entire structure is assembled on dowels - wooden cylinders that fit into the grooves of the parts being fastened. This method of assembly is simpler, because round recesses are needed for the dowels (drilled with a screwdriver and drill, without a router). Their size does not depend on the width of the lamella, and the markings are simply applied in dots using a ruler.

We make classic wooden shutter doors

We decide on the width of the lamella - not only the design, but also the width of the horizontal slats depends on it. If you can cut the wood into slats yourself, then choose according to your taste. But if you don’t have the tools or skills, it’s better to rely on the manufacturers’ offers. It is easy to find 25 mm and 50 mm wide planks from bamboo and wood, but others will have to be ordered. But you can buy slats already tinted in an interesting color and make two-tone doors with contrasting trim.

The greater the width of the lamella, the more massive the horizontal connecting strip should be

If you find it difficult to determine the size of the beams yourself, use this hint:

  • upper, lower and connecting beam with a section of 23x40 mm - 3 parts equal to the width of the door minus two widths of the side beam;
  • side beam with a section of 25x40 mm - two parts equal to the height of the door;
  • a set of dowels (a stick with a cross-section of 5 mm or a block of 7x7 mm for making tenons) - doubled more quantity lamellas plus 12 for connecting the door frame;
  • a set of lamellas 25–35 mm wide (calculate the quantity so that the lamellas laid horizontally fill the cells of the frame).

Approximate ratio of the dimensions of the elements of a louvered door

Tools you will need:

  • jigsaw or band saw (to unravel the material);
  • screwdriver (for drilling slots for dowels);
  • wooden mallet (to drive dowels into the recesses);
  • a block with sandpaper of different grain sizes or a grinder (to remove burrs);
  • long clamps (for temporary fixation).

The frame is assembled using glue - buy carpentry PVA or its equivalent in advance for working with wood.

Let's start making:

  1. Make markings for dowels on the vertical beams, marking the attachment points for the top, bottom and central trim, as well as each lamella. It is better to designate them parallel to prevent the slats from skewing. Place the same notes in central point the end of each lamella and horizontal bars. To make sure the layout is correct, position the elements future door on the table/workbench/floor and make adjustments as necessary.

    A simple template with holes will help you mark quickly and accurately

  2. Drill holes for dowels in the marked locations. To avoid accidentally going deeper, wrap electrical tape around the screwdriver drill, starting from a level that should not be hidden in the wood.

    Adjust the drilling depth in accordance with the chosen dowel mounting method

  3. Insert dowels into all the holes of the left vertical block and place horizontal elements on them, helping with a mallet. Place the dowels in the grooves of the right block and dry assemble the door. If no flaws are found, disassemble the elements and glue the joints in the places where the horizontal beams are attached (there is no need to glue the lamellas). Secure assembled door clamps and leave for 2-3 days.

    The longer the louvered door, the more clamps will be needed to secure it.

  4. Remove the clamps and give the slats the desired angle of inclination. Do this carefully - the dowels hold tightly even without glue.

    The angle of inclination of all lamellas is made the same to create a beautiful appearance.

  5. If necessary, sand joints or areas with exposed adhesive.

    Sanding blocks are easy to make in the right size and format: timber, pen and sandpaper

The door is ready for paintwork, tinting with stain or coating with mineral oils.

Features of installation and operation of louvered doors

Many people are reluctant to purchase louvered doors because they are unsure of the privacy of the enclosed room. After all, the photo shows that objects behind the blinds are clearly visible. But such gap widths are typical only for doors with rotating slats, and they can be reduced to comfortable parameters. Models with fixed lamellas will not allow prying eyes to enter the room; through them, even if desired, only the ceiling is visible. Therefore, feel free to install such doors in the bedroom or nursery.

Accessories for louvered doors

In addition to the canvas itself, you will need to purchase:

  • door frame (if you plan to change it or the existing one does not fit) - most often sellers offer 2-3 options to choose from;
  • butterfly door hinges - 2 pieces per door (they are easier to install, suitable for lightweight panels and allow you to maintain thickness vertical beam);
  • handle suitable design(a mushroom handle is easier to install).

This kit is installed using a screwdriver with a screw bit and a feather drill.

Instructions for installing swing shutter doors:

  1. Mark on the canvas the places where the hinges are attached - they should be at a distance of 200 mm from the top and bottom edge. Attach half of the hinge and mark the places for attaching the screws. Drill holes and screw the hinges to the door.

    When marking, do not press too hard with a pencil - if you make a mistake, dents will remain on the end

  2. Make markings for the handle and lock and install them according to the instructions for the selected model. Standard height handles - 900 mm from the bottom point of the door. Take a small lock so that the depth of the hole for it is less than 30% of the width of the vertical beam of the door. The best option is a lock with a ball: it will definitely hold such a light door.

    Even a beginner can install such a simple lock.

  3. Trim the vertical posts of the door frame to the height of the opening in the wall, taking into account the parameters of the door. Before cutting, place the box around the door lying on the floor. Horizontal planks are sold ready-made to size. Remove burrs on rubbing surfaces with a file or sandpaper.

    A hacksaw and a miter box will help you make an even, chip-free cut at an angle of 90%.

  4. Assemble the box on the floor using wood screws and install it in the opening. To ensure correct vertical position, place it in the right places wooden wedges.

    When assembling the box, carefully ensure that the corners are aligned correctly.

  5. Secure the box in the opening with long dowels so that the caps are completely hidden under the hinge and lock plates. Attach hinges to the box.

    The trims are attached with small nails without heads; thanks to the texture of the wood, they are not noticeable at all

Installation of a louvered door is no different from its analogues. The only thing is that it is light, so you can install it alone.

Caring for louvered doors

From time to time they are wiped from dust with a damp sponge or a special brush for blinds, and since the slats do not bend under light pressure (like their window counterparts), they are easy to clean.

With this tool, cleaning slats is three times faster

If your model is made of wood, it should be carefully varnished or protected from high humidity in another way before installation. Blinds made of MDF, plastic and metal do not require this. Do not place interior types of louvered doors close to heat sources: they dry out.

Such doors do not require lubrication of hinges: their low weight does not overload the fastenings. This doesn't concern metal models, but they are mounted on reinforced hinges, which also do not require special care.

Repair and restoration of louvered doors

Damage to shutter doors is not always a reason to call a professional; some problems can be dealt with on your own.
