Onyx in the interior of the bathroom. Onyx cladding of walls and onyx finishing of floors. Finishing an accent wall in the living room with light slate

This puzzle our technologist/foreman got it “through an acquaintance” from his friend, a designer, who talked about the renovation of this house more than once even before our work began. It was here that the plywood was expertly laid under, we have already talked about this.
It was useless to fight their local construction commander at that time until other builders entered the site.

The problem started with that the pioneering repairmen raised the inlet sewerage system 14 cm from the floor, therefore, the water does not go up, and the bathtub should be located above the level of the sewerage system. Everything would be fine if it weren’t for the fact that initially a very deep bathtub was bought there. The masters decided to get out of this situation in the following way - to strongly raise the podium under the bathtub (the bathtub was built into brickwork). When these works were done, and the onyx was somehow laid, the hostess came and asked: “How can I get into the bath?” “And we’ll give you a step up,” she received the answer. And here it doesn’t seem so scary, but the step could only have turned out in one way - next to front door, so she would stand in the most inconvenient place. In principle, the guys could offer and place a chair - you can easily climb up on it and then dive into the bath, and when it is not needed, you can remove it - a universal step in their spirit. The owner didn’t like the idea of a step and decided to accept the fact that she couldn’t put a deep bath there. Started looking new bath. For some reason they found bath 180 long, although the distance between the walls was 176. The most interesting thing is that it was impossible to move the walls apart, since the onyx had already been laid. What to do? Where to put 4 centimeters from the bathtub? And how to lower the podium without breaking everything? The history of the appearance of this oval acrylic 180 cm bathtub has already faded in memory, so to answer the question “Why exactly this?” It won't work now. But the task at that time was difficult, given all the skill with which that previous group of people worked.

As a result, this puzzle went to our technologist/foreman “through an acquaintance.”
It was necessary to take into account all the circumstances and restrictions: there were water pipes in the walls, there was no more onyx, the owner would not survive the new bathroom renovation, and no one was going to buy a new bathtub - especially since there were already 2 pieces on the property that the owner of the house did not like. In this situation, only one thought came to mind - cut off the bathtub!

Someone will laugh, someone will think badly, but this will not solve the problem - it was necessary to finish renovating the bathroom.

We all know that there are no unsolvable problems! Cut - so cut. It is important to do this more competently, since there is only one way out.

Since the bath was oval, then cutting in a straight line is complete blasphemy. This means you need to cut along the radius. First, everything was agreed upon with the owner of the house, and she agreed. In the end, everything was done: the podium was cut off by 15 centimeters, the recess for the new bathtub was expanded, and the bathtub was cut off. The photographs show this very process. After cutting, the edges of the bathtub were sanded and made smoother (this result is not shown in the photo).

Also, if you pay attention to the stone itself, you will notice that it is damaged - onyx has acquired dark shade, this happened due to the use of simple tile adhesive; the grayness from it was absorbed by the stone. And if you look at the veins of the stone, it becomes clear that it was installed “anyhow.” Although, if you consider that the local tiler charged 500 re. per square meter, the result is not surprising.

More often, semiprecious stone onyx is found in jewelry, wristwatch and decorative items. But the gem is very original and looks beautiful in the interior. He is able to make the space luxurious and solid. How to do this correctly and what you should know before using onyx in the interior?
