Why does a Wilo pump with a frequency converter whistle? Causes.

I installed a used electric motor with a power of 2.2 kilowatts, 140 rpm. The motor is powered via frequency Wilo converter. Engine operation is normal, but there is a strong whistle throughout the entire rev range. I thought it was the bearings. I took it apart, everything is new, no problems are visible. Bearings closed type, easy to rotate, not hot. The covers have washers. It is not clear what the reason for the whistling is.

Subsequently, I found out that the reason for the whistling of the Wilo pump is the occurrence of high-frequency harmonics created by the inverter. You can get rid of the whistling by installing another frequency converter. The whistling is more pronounced in a motor with a double cage and a wide rotor wire. Whistling when the converter operates is normal. The winding whistles. The shape of the potential has a specific shape, similar to a rectangular one, with a varying duty cycle. This means that the motor winding receives a positive potential of different durations and a negative potential of different durations. This adds up to the carrier frequency. The pulse width varies sinusically using a discrete method. A person hears a whistle of a carrier frequency of about 4 kilohertz.

To reduce noise (whistle), you can cover the motor drive with sound insulation. In this case, it is necessary to remove heat to prevent overheating.

Pump stations operating in automatic mode with a frequency converter.

The stations serve to provide clean water pressure constant value without mechanical inclusions, chemical substances. The frequency converter gently changes the engine speed and creates pressure in the water supply system. This does not depend on consumption, saves electricity, increases productivity, protects the engine and pump from operation without water, and increases service life.

The pumping station consists of a pump with an engine, a frequency generator, and a hydraulic accumulator. The frequency control is taken over by a sensor that is built into the pump pressure pipe.

Design features.

  • Air temperature: +1 +40 degrees C.
  • Highest air humidity: 50% at +40 degrees C, without condensation.
  • Degree of protection: IP-54.
  • Fluid temperature for pumping: +1 +40 degrees C.
  • Type of liquid for pumping: water without solid suspensions, aggressive and chemical substances.
  • The engine power is rated at 2.2 kilowatts.
  • Frequency switch input voltage: 100-244 volts, pump: 200-440 volts.
  • The output voltage of the frequency converter depends on the input potential and motor data.
  • Output frequency: from 0 to 55 hertz.
  • Rated current at the input of the frequency converter: 11 amperes for IMTP, 6.5 amperes for ITTP.
  • Rated current at the output of the frequency generator: 10 amperes for IMTP, 6 amperes for ITTP.

Pumping station: centrifugal pump with asynchronous motor, frequency switch, pressure sensor, hydraulic accumulator, wires, fittings, connections, pressure gauge.

  1. The pump is the main link of the pumping station.
  2. The hydraulic accumulator is used for normal operation of the pressure sensor, increasing the volume clean water, changing the amount of starting and braking of the pump, for attaching the pump.
  3. The inverter is designed to start and brake the engine, controls the pump drive, and protects the motor. The motor rotation speed is adjusted by changing the current frequency and motor potential. The inverter is fixed to the installation location of the box for the pump motor contacts. The heat from the frequency converter is removed by a fan.
  4. The five-piece is used for easy and convenient installation of a pressure sensor, hose and pressure gauge.
  5. The hose is designed to connect from the hydraulic accumulator to the pumping mechanism.
  6. A pressure gauge is needed to control the pressure at the moment of switching off and starting the station.
  7. The cables are used to connect the frequency transmitter to the power supply and pressure sensor.

Installation, connection of wires, cables, configuration.

Select before installation right place. Pumping station It is recommended to install in a pit. Can be installed in the basement, on a flat surface, ventilated, dry place. The station can be connected directly to the water supply network or to a container of water. Make sure that the pressure in the water supply network and the highest pump pressure are not more pressure operation of the hydraulic accumulator and pump.

On the pressure and suction pipeline in front of the pump station, it is necessary to install shut-off valves and connecting connectors for repairs and removal

    Description/design

    Submersible pump for vertical or horizontal installation.

    Hydraulics

    Multistage submersible pump with radial impellers in a sectional design. Built-in check valve. All parts in contact with the pumped medium are made of corrosion-resistant material.

    Non-corrosive asynchronous motor for connection to the included frequency converter (HS-E...) or for direct connection to electrical network(HS-I...). Oil-filled, rewindable motor with self-lubricating bearings, designed for high speeds up to 8400 rpm.

    External frequency converter or motor-integrated frequency converter for operating pump speeds up to 8400 rpm, including the following functions:

    • Smooth start
    • protection against undervoltage, overvoltage and short circuit;
    • Protection of the motor and frequency converter from overload using a thermal relay

    Model "HS-E..." with external frequency converter has the following additional equipment features:

    • Prevention of frequent switching cycles (synchronization) by monitoring tightness;
    • Dry running protection with automatic reset
    • changing the direction of rotation;
    • Setting max. current and set pressure
    • pressure indication on the display.
    • Settings, operating status indications and error messages are shown via LEDs or on the display.

    The frequency converter must always be installed outside the pumped medium with protection against flooding!

    Control function "CP": Constant pressure

    Thanks to operation with a frequency converter, the rotation speed of the unit is automatically adjusted to the current water flow. Thanks to this, the submersible pump always supplies constant pressure.

    Cooling

    The motor is cooled by the pumped liquid. Operation of the engine is only permitted when immersed. The maximum limit values must be observed. temperature of the pumped medium and its minimum flow rate.

    For vertical installation, it is necessary to provide a cooling jacket depending on the diameter of the well. Horizontal installation always performed with a cooling jacket.

    Cooling of the external frequency converter also occurs due to the pumped medium. To do this, the frequency converter must be installed directly into the pipeline outside the pumped medium (with protection against flooding).

    Defining parameters

    • Suction mode is not possible for these units!
    • The unit must be completely submerged in water during operation!
    • An adapter for converting from Rp 1 to G 1¼ is required for installation. It must be provided by the customer!
