How to make a heated shoe dryer. DIY infrared clothes dryer. Materials for work

Today, stores offer a huge selection of clothes dryers that have different sizes and design. It would seem that even a picky buyer will definitely find suitable device. But homemade dryer there are undeniable advantages.

First of all, it saves money. When we are talking not about a simple electric dryer made of heating rods, but about a good drying cabinet that costs a decent amount of money, the opportunity to make such a device yourself looks very attractive. But in fact, there is nothing complicated about this. Let's figure out how it works and what materials are needed to create a dryer for clothes and shoes with your own hands.

Operating principle of the drying cabinet

Let's start with the fact that such a device can be used both for quickly drying freshly washed clothes and for drying street clothes and shoes, which is especially important in the off-season.

Drying in a cabinet can be done by pumping warm air with a fan heater or using economical and silent infrared heaters. With the advent of the latter, the question of choosing a heat source was resolved by itself.

Infrared heaters are absolutely safe, very efficient and operate with minimal energy consumption. Their location at the top and bottom of the cabinet (and, if desired, on the side machines) in combination with ventilation holes for removal humid air and fresh arrivals - that, in fact, is the whole secret of the design. But let's talk about everything in order.

Work progress on creating a drying cabinet

The first stage of work will involve the construction of a closet with stands for shoes and hangers for clothes. We will consider the option of building a structure for the hallway, but if you wish, you can install several rods in the closet or stretch a clothesline, which will allow you to use it for drying freshly washed clothes.

  • When the walls are ready, we assemble the cabinet frame. In the lower part we install metal shelves for shoes, and in the upper part for hats (they can be purchased ready-made). It is desirable that these are lattice structures that are not an obstacle to the penetration of warm air. In the top shelf you will need to drill a hole for the hood with a diameter of about 100 mm.
  • The back wall of the cabinet can be made of thick plywood. After installing it, you should secure the clothes rail and install ventilation pipe with exit to the exhaust grille.
  • When clearance internal filling finished, just need to drill at the bottom through holes for air intake from the hallway and install facades.

The next step will be self-production infrared heater made of heating film used for installation of heated floors. To do this you will need the following materials:

  • a piece of heating film of the required size;
  • power cord with plug and switch (for ease of use);
  • eyelets and terminals ring for connecting the wire to the heating film, 2 pcs.;
  • wide electrical tape and super tape for finishing dryers.

On the copper current-carrying strip of the film you need to punch a hole for the grommet. A regular stationery hole punch is suitable for this. Then you should connect the wire to the ring terminal and crimp it special tool or ordinary pliers. Having made a cut along the copper strip, you need to insert a ring terminal and secure the grommet with a press or pliers. You can install eyelets in any metal repair shop.

Similar actions should be performed on the copper strip on the other side. After that, all that remains is to insulate the connection points of the wire to the heating film and the ends of the copper strip on the opposite side. For aesthetic beauty, the insulation areas can be sealed with super tape.

After making two infrared heaters Let's start the last stage of creation drying cabinet- we fix the heating elements in its bottom and upper parts. By the way, if you wish, you can purchase ready-made infrared cassettes for these purposes.

Spring and autumn are the seasons when shoes especially often get wet, as a result frequent rains. Shoes that are not dried can be harmful to your health by causing your feet to become hypothermic. And the shoes themselves will not last long. Whatever happens, I will show you how to make a very simple device that will allow you to avoid these problems.

The shoe dryer consists of only three components. It is not that simple, but rather the simplest. Well, I personally haven’t seen it simpler. Despite its simplicity, it has a number of significant advantages:

  • – Low power consumption.
  • – Small size. You can take it with you anywhere without any problems.
  • – You can try batteries or accumulators as a power supply. And as a result, you can dry your shoes anywhere, say, while hiking, summer fishing, etc.

Dryer does not have heating elements and dries your shoes with simple ventilation. The method is quite effective and the drying time is no longer than that of an electric heating dryer, although it all depends on the external air humidity.
What do you need for a shoe dryer?

  • – Power supply 12 V (5 V).
  • – Two 12 V coolers (fans) from the computer.

Dryer assembly
We take two fans and connect them in parallel to the power supply. Insulate with electrical tape or heat shrink tube. And your shoe dryer is ready. We place the fans on top of the shoes, or if we insert them into the shoes. And we turn on the block to the network.




If the drying speed is not so important for you, then you can take a 5 volt power supply (phone charger). This will increase the drying time of the shoes, but will reduce the noise of the fans. Of course, it is not big, but still someone may not like it.
I would like to add that you can connect at least 10 fans to one power supply and dry 5 pairs of shoes. Enough for the whole family. And if suddenly you are all wet, and there is only one dryer, it will only take a couple of minutes to make several more dryers, unless, of course, you have all the elements at hand.

Despite the heat outside, the value of shoe dryers not only does not decrease, but perhaps even increases. Personally, even in summer I have to wear shoes. And in the heat, shoes become wet even faster than in the fall.

The other day, when I decided to dry my shoes, I discovered that one of the dryers was not working. We take on the brain repair of our dryers.

So, we turn on our dryers and see that one dryer does not want to light up, and also does not want to heat up at all.

Disconnect from the network. Open the lid by unscrewing the screws. We find the following picture:

The scheme, as we see, is completely uncomplicated. I’ll say right away that the original should have had four LEDs, but somehow they had already burned out. I was only able to assemble three, and simply replaced the fourth with a jumper.

Our dryer has one very vulnerable spot - the heating element. It sits under the radiator plate.

This is true! The wire flew off and our entire circuit became open. Solder it back. You have to solder carefully. It is better to fix it with something until the solder completely hardens. The fact is that the heating element is a ceramic plate onto which something similar has been applied. appearance to graphite. Although it may be graphite. The contact points were covered with a very thin layer of foil, and it successfully came off along with the wire. Therefore, it is necessary to solder on the edge of the ceramic and the conductive part. Both there and there the connection will be fragile, but we can’t carry bags of potatoes on it.

We believe you. Everything glows! And it gets warm!

We carefully turn the record over (this was the most difficult moment for me - a couple of times the wires fell off), and put everything together. Let's check again.

In total, having lost 15 minutes of time, and practically not a penny of money (electric energy and the huge costs of solder and rosin are not taken into account :) we have newly revived dryers, which I bought for almost $15.

We can run to dry our shoes.

In any season, the issue of drying shoes remains relevant. Whether we are caught in summer rain or winter snow, if we stay outside for a long time, our shoes will definitely get wet. In order to continue using this pair, it must be dried. Many people solve this problem by simply leaving their shoes to dry in the hallway or leaving them near the radiator. To dry shoes, a special electrical device was invented in the form of tubes shaped like shoes, which are inserted inside, plugged into an outlet and thus warm up the shoes. But such devices are dangerous because you can forget to turn them off and the shoes will dry out, and this can lead to cracking of the leather and changing the shape of the boots or shoes. Genuine leather especially doesn’t like such experiments, and leatherette won’t stand it either, so you can safely throw away such shoes.

Air Shoe Dryer

In order to dry shoes without overheating, you can use air blowing: air that is warmer and less humid than the surrounding air is supplied inside the shoes, and thus the shoes are dried well without warping or other troubles. Resistors R1-R12, shown in the diagram, are used as heating elements. Behind them there is a fan that blows them, and thus the heated air flows through tubes or hoses inside the shoes.

Motor voltage direct current M1, located in the fan, is fed through the rectifier bridge VD1-VD4. This makes it possible to use power from both a constant source and alternating current, since, for example, in the latter case, the ripple of the rectified voltage is smoothed out by capacitor C1.

Assembling a device for drying shoes - electric dryer from a self-regulating thermal cable. Electric drying for shoes can make the autumn-winter slushy period much more comfortable. In addition, dry shoes are a matter of maintaining health, so this is far from a useless device.

Cuttings of thermal cable (can be from a "warm floor" system);

Copper two-core cable with a cross section of 1.5 sq. mm;

Electrical plug;

Dimmer (you can do without it if you don’t need to regulate the heating of the dryers);

Insulating tape;

Terminal block.

Knife and side cutters.


Making a dryer

So, from scraps of thermal cable 35-50 cm long we make two insert loops.



On two sections of cable we do end seal on one side (see photo) and connect terminal block on the other side. You can make not a terminal connection of wires, but soldering.


We connect two “loops” with a cable and a plug in parallel. Additionally, we insulate it with several layers of electrical tape or cover it with a thermal tube.


We do everything carefully and reliably, because we will connect the dryer to a 220 volt network - there should be no mistakes!
