They have even come up with hug pillows and comfortable pillows for pregnant and nursing mothers. For such variations, you need to make a pattern on paper, transfer it to fabric, and then proceed using standard technology.
  • Key accent. Sometimes a pillow can be quite modest - plain, not too colorful, not too expressive, with small stripes or polka dots. It’s very easy to add a twist and fix the situation with a key element. These could be pom-poms, tassels, a large button, or a border. This technique will make a simple pillow made of padding polyester as a self-sufficient element of the interior.

Sewing tools

When mastering a master class on sewing a pillow, you need to select the main components.

Fabrics

How to sew a durable, practical, beautiful and original pillow largely depends on the fabric. Choose a material with which you are comfortable working and with which your ideas are consistent. It can be linen, cotton, silk, calico, flannel, felt, knitwear, burlap, satin, crepe satin, denim and fleece.

It is better to choose natural fabrics for pillows

Perfect for these purposes furniture upholstery. It is not recommended to use stretch fabrics, which can turn all your efforts into a stretched misunderstanding.

Natural fabrics

But you don’t have to immediately run to the fabric store; sometimes you can find brilliant ideas without leaving home. Do you feel like throwing away an old, worn sweater or a favorite shirt that is torn? There is a way to make them original pillow. Old clothes, jeans, scraps of fabric are excellent materials for this.

Needlewomen who know how to knit and embroider don’t have to worry about the design of their creation at all - such covers will be the warmest and brightest.

Padding

Nowadays, there are excellent hypoallergenic materials for stuffing that do not lose their shape and elasticity over the years, which are ideal for stuffing any pillows. These include:

  • synthetic fluff;
  • fibertech;
  • Holofider.

Sintepon and foam rubber tend to lose their shape a little, but they are quite suitable for decorative pillows.

Pillow fillings

You can also use fur or pieces of fabric for stuffing. Especially if the pillow is not evenly shaped, has a large volume and is made of rough material.

Separately, we can say about silicone granules. Not only do they not get wet, are easy to clean, and can be filled through a small opening in the pillowcase; pillows with such filling can be called anti-stress. Touching them relaxes and ensures a carefree sleep.

Feather pillow

How to sew a pillowcase

Sewing a pillowcase is not the most difficult task - make a pattern of the desired size, plus leave a few centimeters for hems, sew two fabrics from the wrong side and turn them right side out. Of great concern is the last seam, which we need to sew on the front side after stuffing.The optimal solution would be a sewn-in zipper.

The decor of the pillow can be changed thanks to the removable cover with a clasp

There will be no problems at all with knitted, knitted and lace products - the last seam will be invisible. In an original way, you can disguise the last seam with a narrow or wide edging to match the product. You can embroider a border around the edges and use the same threads to close the seam.

It is ideal to leave a hole of 4-5 cm on the front side, through which to fill the prepared case with synthetic fluff or silicone granules.

Pillowcase with zipper

Just be sure to make sure there is not enough filler. Very often the corners of the base are not packed tightly enough, as a result they sag and the aesthetic appearance of the product is lost.

Seamless pillowcases

Making a beautiful interior item without a needle and thread is quite possible.

  • Take a cloth or a beautiful large scarf, wrap it around the pillow and tie the edges into a knot. A flower made of fabric or a colored button can slightly enrich a simple knot.
  • In a similar way, wrap the pillow with fabric on four sides, and glue the last free edge with glue.
  • Simple and creative - a pillow with ties. From the main size of the canvas we leave another 10-15 cm of margin on each side. We cut them into strips, they will be our ties, instead of seams. Also, these may not be small ties, but large bows.

Seamless pillowcase
