Which faucet from a good, well-known company should I choose for my bath? Review of manufacturers: which brand of faucets is better? Which plumbing fixtures are best to choose?

In Europe, toilets gained popularity at the beginning of the twentieth century, although they were invented much earlier. The first mass production took place in 1909, carried out by the company Unitas. Thanks to her, the plumbing fixture became popular all over the world.

It would seem that over the long history of their existence, toilets have not changed at all; they still consist of a drain system and a seat. However, digging deeper, you become convinced that modern models are distinguished by quality, ergonomics, design and modification. There are many manufacturers whose products are easy to get lost due to the wide range.

Choosing a company – the most important stage when purchasing a toilet. First, you need to understand the features of a particular company. For example, what technologies are used, how long the brand has been on the world market, what country produces the product. All this will be evidence of quality and reliability. You should only trust well-known, time-tested brands.

Customer reviews play an important role when choosing a manufacturer. Having studied them, you can formulate a complete picture of the product in your head and make conscious choice. We reviewed many toilet manufacturing companies. Each had advantages and disadvantages. From all the diversity, we have identified the best representatives of plumbing and placed them in a rating, dividing them into price categories.

How to choose a toilet?

  1. Determine for yourself which type of toilet is best for you - wall-hung or floor-mounted.
  2. When buying a new one, you need to focus on the type of the previous toilet - horizontal, oblique, universal.
  3. Determine where the water will be supplied from - from below / from above.
  4. Determine the desired material for making the toilet.
  5. Determine the type of flush: direct or circular.
  6. Determine the shape of the bowl: funnel-shaped, dish-shaped or visor-shaped.

A major renovation of an apartment involves changing the plumbing. The emergence of new technologies and materials has increased the choice and improved the quality of plumbing fixtures and their components. It is worth remembering that such devices are purchased for more than one year, so from the right choice Plumbing completely depends on the convenience and functionality of the living space. When choosing it, you should be guided by the following parameters:

  • area and layout of the premises;
  • material of manufacture;
  • functionality and ergonomics;
  • installation and dismantling features;
  • pricing policy.

Material of manufacture

This parameter for choosing plumbing fixtures, such as the material of manufacture, plays a major role. Basic plumbing fixtures can be:

  1. Ceramics consisting of quartz, sand, clay, kaolin and other components, which are pressed and, depending on the technology, fired the required number of times. Depending on porosity and water absorption, this material can be divided into porcelain and earthenware. Porcelain products are distinguished by electrical insulation properties, thermal, mechanical and chemical resistance. Earthenware is characterized by a finely porous structure and a high degree of water permeability, which can be reduced by glazing.
  2. Cast iron, which is an alloy of iron and carbon. This material has high strength, corrosion resistance, low ductility, and its cost is relatively low. The disadvantage of cast iron products is their significant weight.
  3. The steel most often used to make kitchen sinks. Water in steel plumbing cools quickly. In addition, the material is prone to deformation and is subject to corrosion.
  4. Acrylic produced by the polymerization of methyl methacrylate. Acrylic sanitary ware is lightweight, has high electrical insulation, is easy to maintain and has the ability to retain its color for a long time. The main disadvantages of this material are its reduced strength and problematic processing, as a result of which acrylic can crack.

How to choose a sink

The choice of this product is influenced primarily by the size of the room. Today there are many washbasins available, both in shape and color. According to their design, they can be suspended, overhead, built-in, or have a pedestal and stand. The sink must have overflow protection. It is better to choose such plumbing fixtures from ceramics, which have less porosity, which reduces contamination and makes cleaning easier. When purchasing a washbasin, you must immediately match its opening. Preference should be given to a mixer made not from powder, but from solid metal.

Choosing a toilet

The choice of plumbing fixtures such as a toilet requires the most a large number of requirements. When choosing a toilet, you should be guided by the following characteristics:

  • design;
  • material;
  • method of wastewater discharge;
  • flush system;
  • type of bowl;
  • tank.

It would be advisable to choose porcelain and earthenware devices, characterized by a long service life and ease of maintenance. By design, toilets can be: separate ( separate location toilet bowl and cistern), monolithic (single design of bowl and cistern), corner (having a cistern triangular shape), compact and mounted. The most popular are compact toilets. The location of the cistern directly on the bowl completely frees up the back wall of the toilet, which allows you to fill this space with the selected water heater.

The method of wastewater discharge, which must be determined before purchasing a toilet, deserves special attention. It can be oblique (at an angle), vertical and horizontal.

Toilets can have a cascade (directed continuous flow) and circular (washing the entire perimeter of the bowl) flush system. The invention of a two-level water drain: full and economical drain will help control water consumption, which is important factor for owners.

It is worth noting that the shape of the bowl directly affects the drainage of water in the toilet. The visor bowl has a smooth descent of water at an angle. Funnel-shaped - a steep descent, which helps to instantly clean the bowl, but at the same time water can splash. The plate bowl is not very convenient due to the spread of odors. There are models with antibacterial and water-repellent coating.

The most important quality of the tank is its noiselessness. It is better to choose a tank in which the water flows like a fountain, rather than pouring from above.

How to choose a bathroom

Today, bathtubs are produced in various shapes, sizes and colors. But the main criterion when choosing a bath is the material from which it is made. Cast iron is popular because of its ability to retain heat for a long time, corrosion resistance and strength. Steel bathtubs are not the best choice due to their low strength and rapid cooling. When choosing acrylic bathtubs, you should pay attention to the layer of material: the thicker the acrylic, the higher the quality and durability of the product. Wooden baths are an expensive delicacy, since they are made from moisture-resistant wood.

Modern baths can be complemented by a hydromassage function combined with aromatherapy, chromotherapy, ozonation, air massage, and so on. In addition, such baths can have an automatic disinfection function. But it’s worth remembering that such plumbing “delights” are too sensitive to quality tap water. Therefore, for long-term operation of hydromassage systems, it is recommended to install cleaning agents.

A worthy replacement for a bathtub would be the installation of shower cabins, which significantly save water consumption. In addition, such plumbing allows you to save bathroom space, freeing up a significant part of the wall on which, for example, it can be installed. The tray can be made of acrylic, plastic, enameled steel, cast iron and ceramics, door block– made of tempered glass or plastic with metal profiles. The cabin can be covered from above with a roof or a dome made of plastic. The shower cabin set may include additional accessories: a small mirror, shelves for soap and shampoo, handles, towel racks, liquid soap dispensers, and so on. Almost all shower cabins have a remote control for various functions (radio, lighting, fan, and so on).

Which plumbing company should I choose?

It is worth noting that when purchasing plumbing fixtures, you need to pay attention to the pricing policy. You should not save on such products, as possible repairs can be much more expensive. It is better to choose plumbing fixtures from the same manufacturer and year of manufacture. It is also necessary to check the product for damage. When choosing plumbing fixtures from well-known companies, it would be advisable to check the availability of appropriate certificates and permits confirming the originality of the product.

Italian and French manufacturers such as Teuco, Jacuzzi, Albatros are known for their expensive but high-quality plumbing fixtures. German plumbing is distinguished by reliability, while Finnish and Swedish plumbing is economical.

In terms of price-quality ratio, we can note such foreign companies as “Wisdom”, “Apollo”, “Luvisi”, “Waswmaker”, “Termolux”. Such Soviet companies as “Bandhours”, “Stroypolymerkeramika”, “Santek”, “Keramin”, which produce high-quality economy-class models, will delight you with excellent plumbing equipment.

More detailed information information on all sections can be obtained on our website, both in articles and by downloading a book on how to choose the right plumbing fixtures.

Such faucets are reliable and easy to use - with the help of one handle you can regulate both the pressure and the temperature of the water. They are inexpensive, come in a wide range, and are quite easy to install;
  • two-valve - the body is equipped with two faucet boxes on the sides, separately for cold and hot water. Modern models have ceramic liners inside, providing high tightness and protection against leaks. Such mixers are now less in demand, although they are low in price and easy to install;
  • thermostats - mixers equipped with thermoelements, due to which the temperature and water supply power are adjusted automatically after the specified settings. Such models are controlled by two levers, one of which is responsible for the supply and pressure of water, the second for temperature. Thermostats are considered the safest to use, very convenient, and the only negative is the high price;
  • non-contact – the most modern touch models with automatic adjustment. Turning the water on and off is possible thanks to infrared sensor inside the case. Such faucets are quite expensive, but they are very economical to use because they reduce water consumption.

Based on the mounting method, faucets are divided into built-in and wall-mounted. The first option looks more attractive - the spout and control valves remain visible, everything else is hidden in the wall. True, such installation requires more investment and physical effort. The second option is much simpler to implement, and therefore is considered more common.

Faucets are also classified by location - there are floor-standing, wall-mounted and tabletop models.

Mixer typeCharacteristics
Free-standing design of one or two metal stands with spout and control valves. The pipes are laid under the floor, and the mixer connection is made from below. These models look very original and attractive, but are only suitable for spacious bathrooms
This type is the most common. You can use separate faucets for the sink and bathtub, or you can install a common one in the middle with a swivel spout. In case of installation open model, installation or replacement is very simple, with built-in faucets you will have to work hard

During installation, the body itself and the valves remain visible, and all connections and pipes are hidden under the side of the bowl

Before purchasing, it is recommended to go to the manufacturer’s website and familiarize yourself with the model catalogs; be sure to look at the prices in order to better navigate the store.

When choosing a model, consider the following factors:

  • Material of manufacture – faucets made of brass with ceramic cartridges last the longest. Models made of silumin wear out very quickly; ceramic ones require special care, and alloy steel products are too susceptible to contamination;
  • type of protective coating - the most optimal coating option is sputtering of chromium and nickel. Copper coating quickly tarnishes and needs regular cleaning, gold is too expensive, the enamel is not durable and very quickly gets knocked off;
  • It is important to choose the right mixers

    Having chosen a model, be sure to inspect it from all sides, study the information on the packaging, and check whether the equipment matches those specified by the manufacturer. No visible damage or defects are allowed; certified products must have an impeccable appearance.

Just 20-30 years ago, bathroom fixtures performed a purely practical task; it never occurred to anyone that, for example, a bathtub could be round or corner, or have any color other than white (or, in extreme cases, blue). Nowadays, bathroom fixtures are part of the overall interior of an apartment; it is impossible to imagine a cozy and beautiful house without a cozy, beautiful and stylish bathroom. Plumbing fixtures differ in shape, color, and functionality. How not to get confused in this variety and choose plumbing fixtures for the bathroom? This is what we will talk about today.

What bathroom fixtures are on sale?

All bathroom plumbing is divided into two large groups:

The first group is classic plumbing, so it is always in demand among buyers. In the best position, of course, are those who are the happy owners of a spacious bathroom, where they can safely implement any design ideas. In such spacious rooms, you can install any outdoor plumbing fixtures for a bathroom, since there is no need to strictly save space.

The second group - built-in plumbing for the bathroom - is the optimal solution for small rooms. It allows you to save space, free up space, and add “air and light” to the bathroom.

It is worth recalling that every bathroom (with rare exceptions) includes:

  • shower cabin;

    washbasin(s);

    toilet(s).

    engineering plumbing and infrastructure (faucets, showers, water and sewer lines).

Additionally, if space allows, you can install a urinal(s) or bidet. Let's talk about each type of bathroom fixtures separately.

    Baths.

The cast iron bathtub lost its leading position in the bathroom plumbing market when acrylic bathtubs appeared. However, they cannot be completely written off - modern cast iron bathtubs differ not only high quality and durable enamel coating, but also stylish design. The leaders in the cast iron bathtub market are France and Spain. In addition to the already mentioned advantages, bathtubs from Italian and French manufacturers retain heat longer due to special materials.

However, cast iron bathtubs have a number of disadvantages, and it is not surprising that acrylic ones are so popular. Acrylic bathtubs are light but durable, retain heat well, are easy to clean, acrylic bathroom fixtures are resistant to fungus and prevent the growth of mold. But the main thing is that a bathtub from acrylic can be made of any shape and size, but this will not work with cast iron!

Elite bathroom fixtures have additional functions and decorative elements. In the case of a bathroom this is LED lights, Jacuzzi, ergonomic seats, armrests.

    Shower cabins.

The shower cabin is no longer a new product on the bathroom plumbing market. But it appeared relatively recently and immediately took its rightful place in our bathrooms. The main advantage of shower cabins is their compactness and small dimensions. It is no secret that the bathrooms in our homes sometimes do not allow for a large, comfortable bathtub, and a shower stall in this case is a real salvation. But this is not the only advantage of shower cabins - with their help, real water savings are achieved. However, a shower cabin is also suitable for those who simply do not like to spend a lot of time taking a shower.

If you decide to opt for a shower cabin, study the range. Bathroom plumbing should not only be stylish and beautiful, but also meet your wishes and needs. The cabins differ in shape, color and technical equipment. It’s the latter that you should pay special attention to when choosing plumbing fixtures for the bathroom. There are four main types of shower cabins:

    a cabin with a conventional mixer-shower;

    hydrosauna;

    hydroshower;

    cabin with jacuzzi.

There’s probably no need to talk in detail about the regular cabin. A hydrosauna differs from it in that you can “steam” it, creating a steam room. A hydroshower is both a shower and a massage room at the same time. Due to the pressure when water is supplied, the jets form something like the well-known “Charcot's shower”. And the cabin with a jacuzzi is equipped, instead of a tray, with a small bathtub with technical elements of a jacuzzi.

When choosing bathroom fixtures, first evaluate the available space. You can limit yourself to installing a bath or shower. But if the space of the room allows, install both. This will allow you to add a touch of variety to your routine hygiene procedures.

The washbasin is the second most important piece of plumbing for the bathroom. Today there are practically no restrictions on the shapes and colors of shells; many products are real works of art. The whole variety is divided into three large groups, but such a division is, by and large, conditional and only speaks about how the washbasin is installed and secured:

    pedestals (sometimes called tulips);

    furniture cabinets;

    wall brackets.

Pedestals allow you to hide water pipes and a siphon, and, as a rule, elite and high-quality bathroom fixtures are equipped with pedestals.

If space allows, then a furniture cabinet with drawers is used to “mask” communications. In such a cabinet you can not only hide pipes, but also conveniently store household chemicals and various bath accessories.

The third group of washbasins is usually used as one of the components of plumbing for small bathrooms. Sinks mounted on brackets allow for maximum space saving; in addition, they make it possible to use one mixer for both the bathtub and the washbasin. In this case, only the washbasin siphon remains “uncovered”.

All the bathroom fixtures we've covered can be painted with glaze or acrylic paint. But you need to understand that with all the variety of plumbing fixtures for the bathroom, which are presented in stores today, colored plumbing fixtures for the bathroom are limited color palette. That is why, first of all, you need to choose plumbing for the bathroom, and then finish it. With the exception of bathroom fixtures in “universal” white. This will fit into any style and interior.

However, traditional white bathroom fixtures can be replaced with sanitary fixtures made of artificial/natural stone and even special glass, but such bathroom fixtures are quite expensive and not everyone can afford them.

Materials for the manufacture of plumbing fixtures

The most popular and inexpensive materials for the manufacture of sanitary ware for the bathroom are still sanitary porcelain and sanitary ware. Despite the almost absolute similarity in appearance, there are fundamental differences between earthenware and porcelain.

    Earthenware sanitary ware looks great and is inexpensive. It is light in weight. But due to the porous surface, it is more difficult to maintain - dirt and sediment are difficult to remove.

    Porcelain. Their surface is smoother, dirt practically does not stick to it, so it is much easier to care for such bathroom fixtures. But at the same time, porcelain bathroom fixtures are more expensive and heavier in weight.

But both materials have a significant disadvantage - even on the most durable and high-quality samples, chips and cracks can appear from strong impacts with heavy objects.

In addition to sanitary porcelain and sanitary ware, other materials are used in the manufacture of bathroom fixtures, such as:

    Composite products. Such bathroom fixtures have a lot of advantages - they are not afraid of strong impacts or chemicals, they are easy to care for due to their ideal smoothness, and they look attractive due to their shiny, even surface. There is only one downside to composite bathroom fixtures - high cost.

    Marble. Marble bathroom fixtures are spectacular, durable, and luxurious. But, in addition to being expensive, marble is also “capricious” in care - a dirt deposit quickly forms on the porous surface, and it is quite difficult to clean it.

    Glass. Glass bathroom fixtures have come into fashion relatively recently. By attractive appearance it successfully competes with porcelain and earthenware and is not inferior to them in strength. The disadvantage of such bathroom fixtures is that they are difficult to care for. Any stains or drips on this material are not just noticeable, but striking. So, a glass sink will have to be wiped dry every day.

    Cast iron- “classics” of plumbing for the bathroom. It has high strength indicators and retains heat well - in a cast iron bathtub, the water does not cool down for a long time, making it possible to take such a bath for a long time water procedure and at the same time save on water. Among the disadvantages of cast iron bathroom fixtures, we can note their heavy weight and a limited (compared, for example, with acrylic) range of models. In addition, the appearance of chips and cracks is possible, as is the case when using porcelain and earthenware bathroom fixtures.

    Steel. The lightest and cheapest material for the manufacture of bathroom fixtures (namely, bathtubs and washbasins). Steel does not hold heat well, it heats up instantly and cools down just as quickly; without a special coating, a steel bathtub “rattles”, and if low-quality material is used, it can also sag.

    Acrylic. Most modern material for the manufacture of sanitary ware for bathrooms. Light in weight, retains heat, is relatively inexpensive, and provides designers with virtually unlimited scope for creativity. But there is also a drawback - acrylic bathroom fixtures need to be cleaned by special means, since this material is sensitive to mechanical stress, in particular to scratches.

How do plumbing fixtures and bathroom furniture go together?

Paying great attention plumbing for the bathroom, do not forget about furniture. Everything should be not only beautiful, but also comfortable, functional, and of high quality. Comfort and, as a result, your mood depend on this.

What types of bathroom furniture are there?

Depending on the area of the room, the following is usually installed in the bathroom: a cabinet with a sink, an additional cabinet, a mirror, a small hanging cabinet, a pencil case or a “full” one. Big cupboard, laundry basket, shelves for towels.

In very large bathrooms, you can additionally install a solarium cabin. In addition, scientific and technological progress today provides us with the opportunity to buy such unusual interior items as, for example, an anti-sweat mirror.

There are three main requirements for bathroom furniture. The first is related to the specifics of the room - all furniture must be moisture resistant. Secondly, with limited space: furniture should be as functional as possible. The third requirement applies to any furniture, regardless of location: attractiveness. There are long-established companies that produce bathroom furniture. In this series there are both domestic and foreign companies. Russian-made furniture is usually cheaper than imported furniture and simpler in design. But there is one more significant difference - the Russian manufacturer usually takes into account standard dimensions of our apartments and produces furniture for even the smallest bathrooms. If space and financial situation allow, then pay attention to imported furniture, which is designed for large rooms.

We check the quality of furniture

To determine the quality of furniture, as they say, “by eye,” use a few simple tips:

    The paint on high-quality furniture lies smoothly, without streaks.

    It is better to choose metal or chrome-plated fittings. The gilding will come off from gold-plated plastic within a couple of months.

    Look at the sink in the light - there should be no chips or dents on it. Lightly tap it with a metal object. A sink without chips makes a melodic ringing sound, a dull sound is a sign of cracks hidden from view.

How to arrange furniture in the bathroom correctly

The interior of a bathroom is largely a matter of taste of its owners. Therefore, the style and color design should be chosen only in accordance with your wishes. As for the functionality of furniture, use the following tips:

    If you have installed heated floors in the bathroom, then it is better to buy a cabinet or cabinet with legs.

    It is better not to place a cabinet with a sink close to a wall or bathtub, then it will last longer.

    Cabinets and cabinets for small bathrooms should not be wide and bulky; it is better to install a tall and narrow cabinet - a pencil case.

If your house has two bathrooms - for owners and for guests, then their contents may differ. This applies to both furniture and bathroom fixtures. In a guest bathroom, the set of plumbing fixtures and bathroom furniture is usually minimal. In the master room you can place additional plumbing for the bathroom and additional furniture, for example, a shower stall, and divide the bathroom into zones: bathing room, washroom and laundry room.

However, in standard apartments the option of dividing the bathroom into zones is practically impossible, so many people prefer the most functional bathroom fixtures. One of the options is the so-called “moidodyr” - a piece of furniture that combines a cabinet with cabinets, a sink and a mirror.

When planning a bathroom renovation, first of all you need to “arrange on paper” the plumbing fixtures for the bathroom and only then start choosing furniture. If possible, it is better to place cabinets on the same wall as the entrance to the bathroom. Cabinets with mirrors help to visually enlarge the room, and various niches and projections in the walls can be used to store household chemicals.

What is bathroom furniture made of?

Most often, bathroom furniture is made from MDF boards. This is compressed wood dust, durable, moisture resistant. A special feature of this material is that it allows corners to be rounded. You can also cut out patterns on it. Any cleaning products are suitable for cleaning such furniture, except those containing chlorine and abrasives. MDF boards are the most “budget” option.

Chipboards are more expensive, they are pressed from chips, they are moisture resistant, resistant to mold and are not at all interesting to wood bugs. Chipboards are produced by both Russian and foreign factories, but there is a nuance: imported boards, by definition, cannot be lower than class E1, since their production is prohibited by law. The same cannot be said about Russian slabs - our manufacturers sometimes make slabs of much worse quality. This affects not only the performance characteristics, but also the level of safety - low-quality chipboards contain formaldehyde - extremely harmful chemicals. Classic furniture for the bathroom is made of natural wood. It is susceptible to moisture, which can lead to mold, especially in cold, poorly ventilated areas. Furniture made from natural wood requires careful care, the purchase of special cleaning products, and itself is more expensive. But it looks the most impressive and is also absolutely safe in terms of containing chemicals.

How to choose the right plumbing fixtures for the bathroom and toilet

When choosing sanitary ware for the bathroom, remember the main rule - it must be combined with each other. This applies not only color scheme, but also the style, materials and quality of bathroom fixtures.

The shape and size are usually dictated by the area of the existing bathroom, the style and color are your personal preferences. In addition, pay attention to convenience, quality and hygiene, as well as the ability to constantly care for bathroom fixtures.

If you are renovating without the help of a professional designer, carefully take measurements of the bathroom before purchasing plumbing fixtures for the bathroom, and think about the arrangement.

If you have chosen white bathroom fixtures, keep this nuance in mind - white has 16 (!) shades, and even white bathroom fixtures different manufacturers may vary! That is why it is better to opt for bathroom fixtures from one manufacturer. If you plan to select bathroom fixtures to match the color wall tiles, then be sure to take a sample of this tile with you.

And in conclusion, try to maintain a unified style of bathroom fixtures; fortunately, with today’s diversity, this is not at all difficult. Please note that manufacturers offer you a variety of plumbing options for the bathroom - for example, toilets with a bidet function, plumbing for the elderly, etc.

    Domestic or imported plumbing fixtures.

There is no clear answer to this question, Russian manufacturers, contrary to popular belief, they also know how to make high-quality plumbing fixtures for the bathroom. In addition, even a specialist cannot always tell by eye whether a particular plumbing fixture is actually manufactured by a well-known company and is not a skillfully made fake. And this applies not only to bathroom fixtures, but also to many other products. If financial capabilities allow, choose well-known brands from well-established suppliers. It will, of course, be more expensive, but the quality of the plumbing for the bathroom may be an order of magnitude higher.

    What to look for when purchasing.

      Equipment. Be sure to find out what's included. Usually these are fasteners, a siphon. When purchasing plumbing fixtures for the bathroom, keep in mind that Russian siphons often do not fit imported sinks.

      Coating integrity. You need to consider this question before installing bathroom fixtures and be sure to check each fixture for chips and cracks. Firstly, the bathroom fixtures may have been damaged during transportation, in which case you may want to discard them. Secondly, you won’t have to spend a long and tedious time “looking for someone to blame” - in case of trouble, it will be immediately clear whether the bathroom fixtures were damaged upon delivery or during the installation process.

When installing the sink, pay special attention to the holes for the faucet. It is for them that you will subsequently have to select it. This is not particularly difficult, since the range is quite wide. Just keep this point in mind when purchasing bathroom fixtures. Particular attention should be paid to protection against water overflow - the sink must include special fasteners for this hole and a separate siphon, otherwise the meaning of such protection is simply lost. As for the shape and size of the sink, they often depend on the size of the bathroom. In small rooms, corner or built-in washbasins are most suitable.

Since many apartments now have water meters installed, half-flush toilets have become very popular. Even if you have another one, you’ve probably seen such models - the flush button is divided in two (sometimes there are two separate buttons). The circular drain removes dirt most effectively. By the way, rimless toilets have recently appeared on the market - in these, plaque and dirt do not accumulate under the rim, therefore, they are easier to keep clean.

Before purchasing plumbing fixtures for the bathroom, carefully study all communications. So, the toilet drain pipe can be straight or located at an angle to the floor. And toilets are produced with an appropriate flush. If you make a mistake in your choice, do not rush to change the bathroom fixtures. Existing communications can be “adjusted” to the parameters of the toilet. Although this is labor-intensive and will require additional costs. Only you can decide whether the game is worth the candle.

There is a huge selection of toilets on the bathroom plumbing market. There are also such “curiosities” as toilets with a water-repellent and/or antibacterial coating. If your financial capabilities allow, pay attention to such products.

And one more nuance - almost all toilets today are equipped with silent water supply systems. This is not the most important function of the toilet and not its greatest advantage. But it is still necessary to clarify this point, since you hardly need extra annoying noise.

In terms of all functional characteristics, acrylic bathtubs have the best performance. But they are also the most expensive of the “classic” baths (if you don’t compare marble, glass, etc.). If you cannot purchase acrylic bathroom fixtures due to financial circumstances, choose a cast-iron bathtub, it is cheaper, although in some respects it is inferior to acrylic (weight, variety of shapes and colors).

If the bathroom is very small, look for a shaped bathtub - it will help save a little space.

Recently, hydromassage baths have become very popular. Along with expensive bathtubs from European manufacturers, there are also relatively cheap bathtubs “originally” from China on the market. There is an opinion in society that Chinese bathroom fixtures are necessarily of low quality and short-lived. This is not so - the Chinese have learned to monitor the market and take into account customer requirements regarding both quality and price.

What location of plumbing fixtures in the bathroom will be optimal?

The best answer will be given to you by a professional designer who will arrange the furniture and fixtures for the bathroom as ergonomically and comfortably as possible. But if you decide to do a design project yourself, use the advice of experts.

Start by carefully measuring the room. Consider everything - niches, protrusions, location of utilities. Using the resulting dimensions, we draw a plan to scale on paper or use a planner program. Many such programs can be found on the Internet. Some programs are paid, but you can use the demo version; to draw up a plan for placing plumbing fixtures in the bathroom, using the demo version is usually more than enough.. Here are some expert tips that will allow you to place plumbing fixtures for the bathroom in the most ergonomic way:

    In small bathrooms, use small-sized bathroom fixtures.

    Instead of a regular tank, use a drukspühler ( cistern, built into the wall).

    Installing a corner sink helps save centimeters.

Now let's talk about some of the nuances in more detail.

According to professional designers, it is this bathroom fixtures that should be the center of attention, the first to come into view of the person entering. Optimal height– 0.8 meters from the floor level, there must be at least 0.7 meters of free space in front of the sink.

Two sinks or one

Depends on your habits and the size of the bathroom. Usually, two sinks are installed to save time if in the morning two household members wash and brush their teeth at the same time (for example, two same-sex children of approximately the same age, spouses getting ready for work at the same time, a mother and a child whom she supervises, etc.). d.). Two washbasins are combined with one countertop, but the distance between the edges of the sinks should be approximately 25 centimeters.

The location of the toilet usually depends on the location of the sewer riser. Options for remote placement are possible, but they are associated with certain financial costs. However, this is not even the main thing. The fact is that the drain must be located at a certain slope, and the longer the drain pipe, the more difficult it is to maintain this slope. Incorrect angles and/or bends will cause frequent blockages. Between the front edge of the toilet and the wall there should be at least 0.6 meters, on the sides - 25 cm. Remember that the toilet, no matter how stylish, expensive and spectacular it may be, is not the most attractive plumbing fixture for the bathroom, and it should not become the first device that the person entering sees (this statement is only true for combined bathrooms).

If you decide to purchase this plumbing fixture for the bathroom, then place it next to the toilet, maintaining the same distances - 60 and 25 cm from the wall and on the sides, respectively. To save space, you can use a toilet with a built-in bidet. This is no longer a technical novelty in the range of bathroom fixtures, so you can choose a completely budget model.

The choice in this case depends on your tastes and the area of the bathroom, as well as its shape. For example, a long and narrow bathroom will visually look more proportional if you place the bath along a short wall (however, the wall must be at least 160 centimeters).

If the wall is very short - less than 160 centimeters - then, most likely, it is more advisable to either replace the bathtub with a shower stall, or consider the option of placing corner plumbing fixtures for the bathroom. Because you still won’t be able to lie comfortably in a bathtub of one and a half meters or less. Please note that there should also be free space in front of the bathroom - at least 0.7 meters.

Freestanding bathtub

It looks very impressive, but requires a large bathroom area - at least 9 square meters. That is why it is not installed in standard Khrushchev-era apartments and even apartments with an improved layout. If you are the happy owner of a large bathroom and have the opportunity to install any plumbing fixtures for the bathroom at your discretion, keep in mind that such a bathtub is difficult to connect and install and requires reinforcement of the floor structures and partitions.

Like bathroom fixtures, they should be installed near a drain. Provide a place to open the hatch if you plan to buy a front-loading washing machine. For small bathrooms, you can use mini-machines or top-loading machines. If the bathroom is very tiny, and you can barely fit the most necessary plumbing fixtures for the bathroom into it, then try placing the washing machine in the kitchen, under the countertop. Maybe this is not entirely convenient, but in any case it is better than completely cluttering the bathroom.

How to install plumbing in the bathroom with your own hands

If you have certain skills, you can do a major bathroom renovation with your own hands. Be patient free time(minimum 2-3 days) and the necessary tools:

    perforator;

    building level;

    screwdriver;

    adjustable wrench;

    silicone gun.

Technical part

The first question that will arise during the renovation process is where to start installing bathroom fixtures? You need to act according to one of the following principles: from largest to smallest or from the far wall to the entrance.

Like any other product that requires installation and assembly, bathroom fixtures usually come with detailed instructions. Acrylic bathtubs are attached to the wall, metal ones are attached to the floor using support legs. Cast iron bathtubs are not secured in any way - due to its large weight, the bathtub will not tip over even without fastenings. By the way, bathtub legs do not always perform only a fastening function. Increasingly, they also serve additional element bathroom decor.

Lightweight bathroom fixtures can be assembled in a larger room, but you must first make sure that you can carry them through the existing doorway. Carefully measure the space again before installation. Place the plumbing fixtures in the right place, check the evenness of the placement using a level, and mark points for drilling holes in the floor and wall. Move your bathroom fixtures aside or move them into another room and start drilling.

If the tiles are already laid or you do not intend to replace them, you should be especially careful when drilling so as not to split the tiles. There are two options - buy a special drill for tiles, or use the “no impact” drilling mode. We advise you not to complicate the process and still purchase a drill, then install the bathroom plumbing the rooms will pass as quickly and without problems as possible. The walls are drilled in impact mode. After drilling, we put the bathtub in place and finally secure it.

After connecting, be sure to check the drain for leaks. This can be done by eye; if it doesn’t work, blot it with soft paper (for example, a napkin). We close the junction of the bathtub with the wall with a plinth on liquid nails or treat it with silicone. The choice is up to you, but remember - the baseboard still needs to be treated with silicone to make the entire structure more rigid and moisture-resistant.

After installing the bathtub, we move on to other bathroom fixtures.

Sink

The bathtub is the most difficult bathroom fixture to install due to its bulkiness and heavy weight. It will be easier later. We follow the same scheme: apply, check with a level, mark holes, drill, fasten. Lastly, we install a “tulip” or a bedside table, if one is included in the set.

A small clarification - sinks usually do not come with fasteners, but they can be easily purchased separately and are available for sale in any bathroom plumbing department. Usually it is called “Sink Mount” and consists of two washers with eccentrics, two studs with nuts and two plastic plugs.

The procedure for assembling this type of bathroom fixtures is as follows: insert plugs into the drilled holes, screw in the studs, check that the washbasin should fit effortlessly onto the resulting structure. If this does not happen, it means you made a mistake somewhere.

The installation of the drainage system poses some difficulty. The sewer pipe is usually 50 mm in diameter, and the corrugation for the sink is from 30 mm. If there is a discrepancy in diameters, you will have to purchase an additional adapter sleeve for the drain to work as it should. The O-ring and cuff are lubricated with silicone for better tightness and ease of assembly.

The procedure for connecting the corrugation depends on the type of plumbing fixture. If the washbasin has a “tulip” type design, then first install the leg and assemble the siphon without attaching the corrugation. If the washbasin comes with a bedside table, then you will need to make the hole for the drain yourself - with a hacksaw or a wood crown.

As for the mixer that comes with the kit, it is better to install it before placing the sink on the stand and immediately screw on the hoses. But keep in mind that often the hoses that come with the kit are of extremely low quality. Therefore, in order not to take risks, it is better to replace them immediately with metal-plastic, copper or stainless steel ones. As a last resort, use rubber ones with metal braiding. Hoses are not the most expensive type of plumbing components for a bathroom, and the loss from a burst hose can be measured in tens of thousands of rubles (especially if you spill your neighbors). Therefore, saving on hoses is simply pointless and even harmful. Before going to the store, measure the length of the hose.

At the end of the bathroom plumbing installation, check the entire structure for leaks and treat the joints with the wall with silicone sealant. Excess silicone can be easily washed off with a wet, smooth cloth or just a wet finger before it dries.

Note: it also happens that the installation of bathroom plumbing was carried out correctly and in compliance with all requirements, but water does not flow. This is usually explained simply - you stirred up all the dirt in the utilities, and it simply clogged the mixer filter. Checking this is very simple - unscrew the filter, drain the rusty dirty water, rinse the filter and install it again.

The final stage of bathroom plumbing installation is usually the installation of faucets. Since each has its own design and fastening system, it makes no sense to dwell on this issue in detail. Just follow the attached instructions.

The main plumbing for the bathroom has been installed. But if the bathroom is combined, then it is also necessary to install a toilet. Installation of a toilet begins with a connection to the sewer system. There are two connection options - corrugated or plastic corner. With corrugation everything is more or less clear and simple, with a plastic corner it’s a little more complicated. Professional plumbers recommend using a toilet petal rather than an O-ring (which usually comes with the angle). The petal fits the toilet neck more tightly and protects against leaks at the connection point. Please note: the toilet bowl should not hang with its neck on the sewer pipe! Make sure it sits firmly and firmly on the floor.

As with other bathroom fixtures, place the toilet in its designated location and mark where to drill. Be sure to place the toilet together with the tank - it may turn out that you did not take something into account, and the tank will not fit in the intended place due to corners, protrusions, taps, pipes. Most likely, the problem can be solved; you can move the toilet with the tank to the side a couple of centimeters, but this may require you to spend a lot of time and effort installing the connections. Having marked the points, drill. Consider the presence of tiles, as is the case with other bathroom fixtures. Treat all connections with silicone - this will add rigidity to the structure and make assembly easier.

The final stage is installing the tank and checking the entire structure of the bathroom plumbing. Don’t forget to adjust the water intake from the tank (how to do this is written in detail in the instructions and depends on the type of tank). We check all hoses for leaks by hand or using paper napkin. Treat the area where the toilet bowl meets the floor with white silicone sealant to protect it from moisture and just for beauty.

Bathroom plumbing: product prices

Perhaps the most fundamental question regarding bathroom plumbing is the price of plumbing fixtures. If you heard that someone bought an Italian compact toilet for 3-4 thousand rubles, don’t believe it. This cannot happen by definition.

So, what you need to know about the price of bathroom fixtures. Almost all manufacturers produce goods in two price categories - economy and luxury. This applies to China, Germany, Russia, Italy, and everyone else. There is a leader in every price category. Its products will be much more expensive than similar quality bathroom fixtures from other manufacturers. Why? Because in this case, you pay precisely for the brand, in fact, for the name. A simple example: the company JACUZZI (“jacuzzi”) was the first to market a hot tub. And now hydromassage baths from this manufacturer are considered the best by default and cost several times more than their analogues. This is exactly the price for the brand!

Or another example not from the field of bathroom plumbing - XEROX. “Xerox” (in Russian transcription) is only the name of the company that was the first to make a copy machine, however, we now call all similar machines copiers. And the copies themselves are called photocopies, although in fact they are blueprints, and that is what they are officially called.

The same thing happens with bathroom fixtures. Compact of Turkish, Russian or made in China may be of high quality. The only indicator that you should rely on when choosing is compliance with GOST requirements. As for the price of bathroom fixtures, there are different laws, for example, a compact for 1,000 rubles is very different from a compact for 4,000 rubles, and not for the better. But if the price crosses a certain price threshold, and we are dealing with luxury goods, then the difference becomes minimal - for example, a compact for $400 is no worse than a compact for $800. This is the arithmetic.

When buying bathroom fixtures, rely on average prices. A high-quality toilet complete with a tank costs from 2.7 to 5.5 thousand rubles. And regardless of the manufacturer. Sink with a pedestal - from 1.5 to 4 thousand rubles. A semi-pedestal will be about 15% more expensive, colored sanitary ware for a bathroom will be 40-100% more expensive (in the same style and from the same materials).

The only exception among bathroom plumbing fixtures are acrylic bathtubs - prices for them from Russian and foreign manufacturers are almost the same.

Where can you buy plumbing fixtures for your bathroom inexpensively without losing quality?

The warranty period given by the manufacturer for bathroom fixtures is one of the main indicators of its quality. The longer it is, the more confident the manufacturer is in himself and in the quality of his work. There is practically no bathroom plumbing without a warranty, but still check this when purchasing and fill out the warranty book accordingly. Remember: bathroom plumbing is not only a bathtub, sink, toilet, but also all components, fasteners, faucets, pipes, corrugations, hoses, etc. The durability of bathroom plumbing depends on the quality of all components, so choose reliable suppliers who provide a guarantee for all products.
