You should start with the fact that work should be carried out in a warm, rainless season.

We attach a membrane film to the rafters, which will protect the insulation from moisture.

Laying technology of the lining layer

It should be noted here that after the lining material is attached, markings are applied. The markings allow you to lay soft tiles evenly, both vertically and horizontally, but this does not mean that you need to nail the tiles along these lines. It’s simple: the vertical strip is equal to the width of the tile itself, and horizontally, every five rows are minus 80 cm.

Material laying

Instructions for installing a flexible coating, in addition to the waterproofing carpet produced by TechnoNIKOL, provide for the installation of an additional carpet made of special material OSGCH barrier. It is a rolled bitumen-polymer material that adheres to the flooring thanks to a self-adhesive layer. This may be necessary in places that are typical for leaks, such as valleys, eaves, front overhangs, ridges, ridges, and places where utility lines pass through the roof. The material must be laid following certain rules:
  • in the valley zone, the material is placed on both slopes of 50 cm;
  • along the eaves edge the material is laid over the entire width of the overhang, with a spacing of 60 cm in the direction of the ridge;
  • along the valley the material should be laid as a single sheet, without joints;
  • if it is impossible to comply with the previous rule, the overlap should be at least 30 cm, with the material gluing together;
  • additional carpets can be made from ordinary lining material, but it must be glued to the base using bitumen mastic.
The entire remaining roof covering is covered with TechnoNIKOL underlayment. The overlap of the tapes across the slope must be at least 10 cm, and along the slope at least 15 cm; the overlap areas must be coated with bitumen mastic. The layout starts from the bottom and gradually rises to the ridge, the material is laid parallel to the cornice. The material is attached to the solid flooring with galvanized nails with a wide head, with a fastening pitch of 20–25 cm.
The overhangs are framed with cornice strips. Fastening is carried out with roofing nails to the flooring in increments of 12–15 cm. The gables are framed with end strips; they are attached on top of the lining layer to the ends of the roof structures, also in increments of 12–15 cm. The planks must have an overlap along the length of 0.3–0.5 cm, in such places the planks are attached in increments of 0.2–0.3 cm.

SHINGLAS installation

For ease of installation, it will be useful to apply marking lines to the coating; they will help align the material when laying in both directions. The verticals are applied in increments of 1 meter along the length of the row tiles, and the distance between the horizontals is made equal to five heights of the material tile, which is 80 cm.
Ordinary shingles look like sheets certain form, with dimensions 1x0.335 m, with cutouts on one side imitating petal tiles. The number of nails used to secure the tiles increases with increasing roof angle. The greater the angle of inclination, the more fasteners are used; for roofs with a slope of 45–90 degrees, an average of 2 times more nails are required than for roofs with a slope of 12–45 degrees. The distances from the edges to the fastenings should be 2–3 cm. To ensure proper coating, it is important to follow the installation instructions for the material. The starting strip is attached first along the eaves line. Usually special cornice-ridge tiles are used; they have a rectangular shape and are universally suitable for both cornice and ridge. The strip can also be cut from ordinary row tiles. The first row almost completely covers the first strip; it is attached 1–2 cm above it. It is convenient to lay sheets from the center in both directions for more accurate alignment of the material. The next row of shinglas should be attached so that the bottom of the cut shingles in the next row is flush with the top edge of the tiles in the first row. By shifting in one direction or the other relative to the previous tile by half a petal, all rows of the slope are completed. Where the tiles do not have a self-adhesive layer, along the edges of the roof, it is necessary to coat it with bitumen mastic 10 cm deep. The tiles should not be brought to the edge of the gable strip by 2-3 cm.


The valley is the junction of two slopes, which is an internal break in the coating. In the valley area, tiles are laid in the following order:

  • if the slopes approaching the valley have different angles of inclination, the material is laid first on a flatter slope, the tiles should cover the adjacent slope by 30 cm;
  • each edge extending onto the opposite slope is fastened with nails;
  • cutting of the material is carried out at a distance of several centimeters from the central axis of the valley towards a steeper slope;
  • Trimming is done for each tile; it is also necessary to coat the edge of each tile with bitumen mastic in places where there is no adhesive layer.

The ridge is the junction of two roof slopes, which is an external break in the covering. Installation of tiles on the roof ridges is carried out in the following sequence:
  • tiles of material adjacent to the ridge are trimmed to create a gap 0.5 cm wide;
  • two lines are drawn along the break, the width of the future ridge;
  • the tiles begin to be fastened from below, moving upward, fastening is carried out with four nails, two on each side;
  • the overlying tile should overlap the previous one by 5 cm and overlap the nails.

Roofing system with bitumen coating Shinglas shingles should consist of a continuous vapor barrier on the room side, thermal insulation of the required thickness, windproof film. The under-roof space must be ventilated. Without ventilation, moist fumes will accumulate in and above the insulation layer.

Shingles are trimmed on a rigid backing (sheet of plywood, board). Cutting should not be performed on already laid bituminous shingles (there is a risk of damage to them).

Packages with material are stored away from heat sources and not in direct sunlight. Heat is avoided so that the adhesive strips do not stick to the siliconized film (it should be easy to remove).

When storing packages on pallets, they are not stacked (each pallet is placed separately).

To ensure that the sheets of material are well separated from each other, each package is slightly bent and shaken before opening.

It is not recommended to walk on an already installed coating if the installation is carried out in sunny or humid, hot or cold weather(marks or stains may remain). Westmet engineers recommend leaving manholes for access to the desired area on the roof.

Materials

ANDEREP PROF PLUS: the bitumen-impregnated polyester base is protected by a layer of Spunbond (non-woven polypropylene) on the outside and inside, with an additional self-adhesive edge (covered with film before installation). When laying carpets, bitumen mastic is not used.

Valley carpet. Used in valleys and junction areas. Supplied in rolls. The base is made of polyester, reinforced with a layer of SBS-modified bitumen.   • Step 3. Installation of the Shinglas soft roof according to the rules is carried out from the bottom up, over the entire surface of the slopes. Then we glue and nail the tile itself.

  1. The installation of a Shinglas soft roof begins with laying a solid, level and securely fastened base over the sheathing. It should ensure good air circulation under the roof, for which the supply openings are placed at the eaves overhangs, and the exhaust openings are located closer to the ridge. The base for flexible tiles is made from OSB-3 boards, moisture-resistant plywood or edged boards with a moisture content not exceeding 18–20%. The base boards (or slabs) must be at least two spans long between the load-bearing supports, joined on the supports and secured with four nails. To avoid swelling during linear expansion of wood, gaps of 1–3 mm are left between the elements of the continuous flooring. When settling in wooden base the boards are pre-sorted by thickness, placing the thicker ones near the eaves so that the base plane is as flat as possible.
  2. An underlayment carpet is laid transversely or longitudinally on the prepared solid flooring as additional waterproofing. There is one nuance here - if the roof slope is less than 1:3 (18º), the underlay carpet is laid over the entire surface. In other cases, partial installation in particularly problematic areas is permissible - on roof overhangs, ridges, valleys, ribs, ventilation passages, skylights and chimneys. Install the lining material without sagging with overlapping strips of 15 cm, gluing the seams and fixing the edges with roofing nails at intervals of 20 cm.

    The order of laying and fastening the underlayment is determined by the angle of the roof.

  3. Metal eaves and end strips are installed on top of the underlayment to strengthen and protect the roof overhangs. They are laid edgewise and secured in a checkerboard pattern at intervals of 12–15 cm with roofing nails. The planks are mounted with an overlap of 30–50 mm and the overlaps are stitched with two nails to ensure a strong connection. In the area of ​​the eaves overhang, brackets for gutters are fixed. Lay a valley carpet with an overlap of 30 cm, gluing it to the lining material with mastic or bitumen glue and fixing it along the edges with nails.

  4. Before installing bitumen shingles, markings of slopes are made to level the Shinglas vertically and horizontally. Then they lay a starting row of ridge-eaves universal tiles, starting from the middle of the eaves overhang and moving towards the ends. Take off protective film, glue the shingles to the underlayment and fix each one with four, and with a steep slope - with six nails. Next, bitumen row tiles are installed with an offset of half a petal in each row. For some collections, the offset interval can range from 15–85 cm, while the coating pattern turns out to be abstract.

  5. The shingles are laid in pyramidal or diagonal stripes depending on the type of cut. At the ends, the fragments are cut and glued to a width of 10 cm from the edge. They do exactly the same in places where valleys pass.

  6. Equipping roof penetrations. For small-sized output elements (aerators, antennas), rubber seals are used, and thermal insulation is laid around the chimneys. At the junction of the chimneys with the roof, a triangular strip is stuffed around the perimeter and the pipes are wrapped for complete sealing self-adhesive tape at a distance of 25 cm up the pipe and 20 cm along the slope. The material of the valley carpet is laid on top to a width of 50 cm with sizing with mastic and covered with a metal apron.

    Small outlets ventilation elements are sealed using rubber seals, and the passage of the chimneys is protected with a heat insulator and a valley carpet.

  7. The ribs of the stingrays and skates are decorated. For the ribs, use ridge-eaves tiles, dividing them along the perforation line into 3 parts. Arrangement of the ridge begins on the side opposite to the dominant winds. The ordinary shingles that extend onto the ridges and ridges are trimmed, leaving a 3-5 cm gap between the slopes to enhance ventilation. Then they are laid with an overlap of 5 cm ridge tiles and fix each fragment with four nails (2 on each side), making sure that each subsequent element overlaps the fastenings of the previous one. When performing work in cold weather, to prevent cracking of the material, it is recommended to form a fracture of each fragment before installing the ribs and ridges, using a metal pipe with a diameter of 10 cm heated to 40 ºC.
