Area of application of Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic

Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic grout is intended for filling joints of ceramic, stone (including marble) and glass cladding on floors and walls inside and outside buildings, with a joint width of up to 10 mm. Due to its high elasticity, grouting ceramic tiles Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic can be used on deformable substrates (chipboards, particle boards, plasterboard, etc.) and substrates subject to temperature fluctuations (heated floors, terraces, outdoor swimming pool baths, etc.).

Thanks to the "Aquastatic" effect ( hydrophobic properties) and the “MicroProtect” formula (high resistance to fungus and mold), grout CE 40 is optimal for use in rooms with constant humidity: bathrooms, showers, kitchens, etc.

It is recommended to fill corner, expansion joints and joints adjacent to sanitary equipment with silicone grout CS 25.

Preparing the base

Filling the joints of the tile cladding should only be done after the period specified in the instructions for the adhesive used has expired. If a traditional cement-sand mixture was used to attach the tiles, filling the joints can be done no earlier than 7 days after laying the tiles.

The base and tile adhesive must be dry. The edges of the seams must be cleaned of tile adhesive, as well as dust, grease and other contaminants that interfere with the adhesion of the grout. It is recommended to moisten the edges of the tiles with a damp sponge. When grouting existing tile cladding, the old grout should be completely removed.

In the case of matte, unglazed or stone tiles It is necessary to test the coloring of the tiles with pigments contained in the grout.

Execution of work

To prepare the mixture, take a measured amount clean water with temperatures from +15 to +20 °C. The dry mixture of Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic is gradually added to the water while stirring, achieving a homogeneous mass without lumps. Mixing must be done with a mixer or drill with an attachment at a rotation speed of 400-800 rpm. Then a technological pause is maintained for about 5 minutes to allow the mixture to mature and mix again. The ready-to-use Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic mixture must be consumed within 2 hours from the moment of preparation. An overdose of water leads to deterioration technical characteristics grout!

The joints are filled with Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic grout using a rubber spatula, collecting excess from the surface with diagonal movements. After about 15 minutes, the surface of the cladding is carefully wiped with a damp, well-wrung out, frequently rinsed sponge. Excessive moistening of the seams can lead to the appearance of different colors! Dried plaque from the tiles is removed with a dry soft cloth no later than 8 hours after filling the joints. The technological passage is possible after 8 hours, and the first contact with water is possible after 7 days after filling the ceramic tile joints.

Work should be carried out at air and base temperatures from +5 to +30 °C and relative humidity air no higher than 80%. Increased base moisture different quantities mixing water, uneven drying and too intensive smoothing of seams can lead to the appearance of different colors. To avoid differences in the shades of the joints, it is recommended to use grout from the same batch on the same plane. When working, you should use tools made of stainless materials. Within 24 hours after filling the joints, the grout must be protected from drying out (protected from direct sun rays, wind, heating, etc.), and for 7 days - from contact with water (for outdoor work, provide protection from rain).

In this article we will look at the most popular modern materials for the construction of a swimming pool

Waterproofing for the pool. Or how and what is the best way to waterproof a pool.

Nowadays you can find a lot on the Internet various materials about how to build a pool, as well as what materials can be used to waterproof a pool.

We won't be covering composite pools here since this article is about traditional reinforced concrete pools that are ultimately lined with ceramic tiles or glass mosaics. In this publication, we will analyze the technology of pool construction and the most modern materials for installing a waterproofing system and laying tiles or mosaics.

So, the construction of a swimming pool bowl can be divided into three large stages:

  • Making a pool bowl
  • Installation of a pool waterproofing system
  • Finishing with tiles or mosaics

Each stage consists of a specific sequence of work, which we will discuss in detail below.

Making a pool bowl

Creating a swimming pool bowl is a very important stage. The service life of the entire pool largely depends on the quality of execution of this basic element.

The reinforced concrete pool bowl is made by pouring mortar into formwork with reinforcement. The grade of concrete must be at least M300. After manufacturing the elements of the bowl - the floor and walls - special safety elements are laid at the points of their connection -, or so-called. Such elements expand up to 800% upon contact with water, thereby preventing the movement of water outside the pool bowl. Also, hydrophilic materials are used for additional insulation of various embedded elements - overflows, lighting, etc.

It is important to remember that the full strength of reinforced concrete elements is regulated by GOST 10180-90; GOST 27006-86; GOST 18105-86; GOST 12730.5-84; GOST 10181.1-81; GOST 10182.2-81; GOST 10183.3-81 GOST 10184.4-8, as well as SNiP 2.08.02-89 and SP 31-113-2004. Those. All elements of the bowl must be aged for at least six months before subsequent work.

Leveling the surfaces of the pool bowl

Before applying leveling solutions to the walls and floor of the pool bowl, it is necessary to completely remove construction dirt from the surfaces, as well as clean the walls and floor from residues of “cement milk”, formwork compound and other contaminants. It's done mechanically. After this, the surface of the pool bowl is treated with a primer, for example:

  • Mapei
  • Litokol
  • Kerakoll
  • Index

After the soil has dried, we begin applying the leveling solution.

To make a solution that will be used to level the surfaces of the pool bowl, it is necessary to use special plasticizers, which will significantly strengthen the structure, and most importantly, give the “walls” and “floor” of the pool elasticity, which will avoid cracking of the bases when the temperature fluctuates environment. For these purposes, you can use, for example, latex, which is added to water when preparing a solution of cement and sand. The mixture of sand and cement must have a strength of at least M300. More information about the preparation of solutions using Idrokol X20-m latex can be found in the technical data sheet of the material. The solution created using the plasticizer "Idrokol X20-m" when applied in a layer of over 20 mm, is additionally reinforced with a cell of 5 mm and a density of at least 150 g/m2. This solution hardens in approximately 7 days for every 1 cm of thickness.

If additional final leveling bowl walls and floor thin layer, then such work requires high-strength elastic putties, for example or. You can also use a mixture of latex for these purposes. The recesses in the bowl that contain various elements(overflow, lighting etc.) are leveled with a non-shrinking anchoring compound (for example, , , ), which is poured into the formwork in such a way as to completely displace air from the formwork, filling the entire space of the recess around the element. . Before pouring the anchoring compound, a hydrophilic profile or bentonite cord is laid around the embedded elements. After the anchor material has completely hardened, you can begin to create a waterproofing “pie”.

Waterproofing the pool bowl

Before you begin applying waterproofing to the base of the bowl, you must remove all construction dirt from the surface of the walls and floor of the bowl and moisten the base.

On this moment the best and most popular materials for installing a waterproofing coating on the walls and floor of the pool are the following cement compositions:

  • Mapei
  • Litokol
  • (former name "Idrobuild Eco") Kerakoll
  • Kerakoll
  • Index
  • Index

As well as ready-made waterproofing for water based:

  • Index

The technology for using these materials is almost the same. First, the first layer of waterproofing is applied to the surface. Into fresh waterproofing material you need to lay alkali-resistant with a density of at least 150g/m2. This is necessary to provide the necessary strength and integrity to the structure. The mesh is laid with an overlap of 10cm. In places where the walls are connected to each other, the walls are connected to the floor, as well as in other connected places (for example, steps, columns or other underwater structures), an elastic waterproofing tape is placed in a fresh layer of waterproofing, which additionally insures the system in places where there is highest probability formation of cracks. The most effective and reliable waterproofing tapes:

  • Kerakoll
  • Litokol
  • Index
  • Mapei

For reinforcing internal and external corners For the bowl design, it is convenient to use ready-made products, for example, an external corner and an internal corner.

After the first layer of waterproofing has completely hardened (or dried), the entire bowl is covered with a second layer of waterproofing mixture. All reinforcing elements (reinforcing mesh and tapes) must be completely covered with waterproofing. The recommended total thickness of two layers should generally not exceed 4mm, but the thickness should also not be thinner than 3mm. If you apply too much thick layer waterproofing, this will reduce the elasticity of the system, and if it is too thin, the system in this place will not have the necessary strength.

After the second layer of waterproofing has completely dried (gained strength), you need to test the tightness of the waterproofing coating. To do this, the pool is filled with water, and changes in the water level are observed for two weeks, noting each change in writing.

Laying tiles and mosaics in a swimming pool

After the waterproofing coating of the pool bowl has successfully passed hydro-tests, you can begin installation finishing coating– glazed ceramic tiles or glass mosaic. Since the waterproofing coating does not absorb water at all, and extreme loads are placed on the tiles in the pool, ordinary cement-sand tile adhesives will not be reliable materials for such work.

For gluing tiles in a pool, only super-elastic reinforced adhesives are suitable - these are cement adhesives that can withstand deformation of the base of class not lower than C2, according to EN 12004 and S1, according to EN 12002. Such adhesives have an extremely high degree of wettability, therefore they stick to the waterproofing like a suction cup. And the adhesive strength of such adhesives is such that in order to tear a 100x250mm tile from the base, you need to apply a force of 2500 kg. For regular tiles, use adhesive based on gray cement, and for glass mosaics, white tile adhesive.

Here are the most popular cement adhesives for gluing pool tiles:

Gray tile adhesives:

  • Kerakoll
  • Index
  • Lugato
  • + Litokol additive
  • + Mapei additive

White adhesive tile adhesive:

  • Kerakoll
  • Index
  • + additive
  • + Mapei additive

Reactive polyurethane tile adhesives are also ideal for laying any pool tiles white such as:

  • Litokol
  • Mapei
  • Kerakoll
  • Index

Grouting joints between tiles in a swimming pool

Grouting the seams of mosaics and tiles in the pool is a final and very important process. It is the grout that is the first pillar of the waterproofing system, which also includes tiles, tile adhesive and waterproofing material. Proper pool grouting will significantly extend the life of the entire pool and create an airtight seal that will protect the tile adhesive from chlorinated or seawater.

To grout pool tiles, you can use either a flexible, reinforced cement grout or a reactive epoxy grout.

Cement grouts are a cheaper, but less reliable and durable solution. Since cement grouts are porous, it is in cement grout joints that mold formations and difficult-to-remove contaminants can most often be found. At the same time, every good European manufacturer of construction chemicals has in its assortment cement grout, which is recommended for use in swimming pools. These are elastic grouts with dry latex in the composition, or grout + latex additive systems.

Have you ever watched a goose come out of the water, spread its wings and find itself completely dry? Or have you encountered another fact of waterproofness - have you worn a jacket with a water-repellent coating? Is this possible among building materials? Yes, yes and yes again! Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic is an elastic, water-repellent grout designed for covering tile cladding. The width of the seams should be no more than 10 mm. The material has a water-repellent effect and protects the cladding from fungal damage. Available palette - 32 colors. The grout is harmless to people and pets, elastic, resistant to abrasion and deformation, retains color for a very long time, is not afraid of frost and heat - can be used for heated floors. The treated surface will be perfectly smooth, and it can be used both inside and outside buildings.

The grout is suitable for different materials- you can fill the seams between glass tiles, stone, traditional ceramic. Both floors and walls can be treated. It holds well on substrates prone to deformation - plasterboard, wood slabs. And it can be used in an outdoor pool. Constantly high humidity and temperature fluctuations will not harm it, so Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic in a shower stall or in the kitchen will also show its benefits the best side. There is only one limitation: seams in corners and expansion gaps, as well as seams in places near plumbing fixtures, are recommended to be filled with another branded compound - silicone.

How to use Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic

The grout should not react with the adhesive that holds the tiles in place. If under the cladding cement mortar- you need to wait at least a week after installation. The entire base under the grout must be dry, and the edges of the seams must be cleaned of glue, any stains and dust. Before applying, you should walk along the edges of the tile with a damp sponge - then the material will adhere better. Important point: seams must be the same depth.

The water for the mixture needs to be warm (from +15 to +20°C) - measure out as much as needed and add the dry powder there, stirring. The finished mixture should not have lumps. Stir it with a mixer or drill, then let it ripen for 5 minutes. and interfere again. The entire prepared volume must be consumed within 2 hours.

The grout is applied with a rubber spatula, then the surface is wiped with a wrung-out sponge; when the coating on the tile dries, use a dry cloth, but not later than 8 hours. And no water should fall on the surface for a week. What color and shade the grout will ultimately have depends on many circumstances: the humidity of the base, the volume of mixing water, the uniformity of drying, and the correct smoothing of the seams.

Grouting is the process of filling the joints of tiles or mosaics on a tiled base with a grout mixture and shaping the surface of the adhesive in the joints by giving it a convex, flat or concave transverse profile. The term of the same name, grout, refers to the material itself, grout mixture, used for arranging ceramic joints.

Grouting joints is an important finishing operation of a complex of works on finishing a pool with tiles or mosaics, on which the solidity and, therefore, the strength of the ceramic shell of the bowl depends. In addition, from the aesthetics of doing this final stage work depends on the success of solving the artistic component of lining the pool with ceramics.

Finishing with tiles or mosaics a small-capacity pool in a country house or personal plot, knowing the production technology of all stages of this work and the requirements for the grouting composition, it is quite possible to fulfill it yourself, so we will consider those used for this adhesive mixtures in more detail, breaking the review into its component parts:

  • requirements for grouting compounds for swimming pools;
  • types of grout suitable for finishing bowls;
  • mixtures on cement based;
  • compositions based on epoxy resins;
  • review of specific samples.

Requirements for grouting compounds for ceramics in the pool

terms of Use ceramic cladding pool bowls are specific. This is prolonged contact with water in open form, exposure to salts and chlorine, temperature fluctuations and other unfavorable factors.

Therefore, the adhesive composition for arranging seams in the pool must have the following properties:

  • strength and hardness - to counteract the pressure exerted by water;
  • a high degree of adhesion is a condition necessary to ensure the integrity of the cladding;
  • elasticity - a characteristic of the adhesive necessary for the grout to neutralize the deformations of the pool bowl after the mixture has cured;
  • water-thermal and frost resistance - qualities necessary to counteract prolonged contact with water, freezing and temperature fluctuations;
  • resistance to chemical reagents, salts and chlorine - inertness to salts dissolved in water, including sea salts, household chemicals and chlorine used for disinfection;
  • antifungal activity - the ability to counteract the formation of fungus on its surface in the favorable environment of warm water;
  • environmental friendliness – absence of any toxic emissions into the environment;
  • aesthetics – thoughtful color addition, contrasting or tonal, artistic solution pool finishing.

Grout mixtures whose names include the words “Pool” or “Aqua” have all of the above characteristics in combination. If these words are not on the packaging, then the material is selected based on the description and instructions for use.

Types of grout for arranging seams in pool ceramics

Grout is a material without which, given the specifics of the operation of the structure, it is impossible to perform ceramic cladding that meets technical, sanitary, hygienic and aesthetic requirements. Therefore, the sealing of joints must be impeccable - to the full depth, and the material must be appropriate for the operating features. Not all grout mixtures are suitable for making ceramic joints in swimming pools. Even expensive compounds that are not designed for the operating conditions of the pool may prove unsuitable and lead to the need for costly repairs to the arrangement of the seams. Therefore, we will consider grouts intended specifically for use in swimming pools.

Cement-based grout mixtures

To create lining joints for small private swimming pools, cement-based grouts are most often used, which meet the necessary requirements and have a wide range of prices. Cement-sand mixtures are not suitable for finishing bowls, since they do not allow achieving smooth surface seam and are used with a joint width of more than 3 mm, which is unacceptable for a pool.

Disadvantage cement compositions is weak resistance to chemicals, therefore dry mixtures to enhance the water resistance of the seams and the tightness of the bowl are sealed only with an aqueous solution of latex or special ready-made latex additives, for example, Litokol Idrostuk.

To make it easier to control sanitary condition joints for the appearance of fungus, use white or close-to-white mixtures. When using glass or smalt mosaic, the grout must definitely be white, otherwise the translucent chips may change their color unpredictably.

Examples the right choice Moisture-resistant cement mixtures Ceresit CE 40 Aquastatic, Ceresit CE-33 SUPER, Litokol Litochrom 3-15.

Cement compositions, despite their strength, still allow, if necessary, spot repairs of the finish to be carried out without much difficulty, removing glue from the joints. Installation of new ceramics instead of removed defective tiles is also simple, since to use a cement mixture there is no need to dry the base, which has been in water for months.

To enhance the waterproofing characteristics of the bowl located above the living space, cement-based grout mixtures can be periodically impregnated with special compounds, after first cleaning the joints from salt deposits.

Joint filling compounds based on reactive resins

Despite high quality cement mixtures, adhesives based on epoxy resins are superior to them in all characteristics, except flammability (not relevant in a swimming pool). Therefore, the feasibility of using epoxy grout for arranging tile joints in swimming pools is indisputable, but you should be prepared for the fact that the price of such mixtures is several times higher than cement-based grouting material. In addition, working with any epoxy adhesives requires the performer to have certain skills and dexterity.

Among many other mixtures based on epoxy resins, Litokol pool grouts have proven themselves well. Litochrome Starlike C.290 Travertine, Litokol Epoxystuk X90, Index Fugopox AB.

And yet, the use of epoxy grout when finishing bowls has its disadvantages:

  • short period of mobility of the mixed mixture;
  • the difficulty of removing excess glue from tiles and, especially, mosaics;
  • difficulty in drying the base for spot repairs.

In addition, there are disadvantages arising from the advantages:

  • high quality leads to high cost;
  • high adhesion and strength makes it difficult to dismantle defective tiles when making spot repairs to the finish.

Review of samples of grout compounds for ceramic tiles in the pool

– elastic water-repellent cement grout, available in 32 colors, for sealing tile joints up to 10 mm wide. The use of Aquastatic and MicroProtect technologies in the production of the mixture provides the adhesive with high hydrophobic characteristics, active antifungal properties and resistance to stains. The mixture is heat- and frost-resistant (operating temperature from -50 to +70 degrees), after curing it is resistant to deformation due to its high degree of elasticity.

– a cement-based grout mixture with the addition of synthetic resins, modifying additives and pigment, used in swimming pools to seal tile and mosaic joints. The adhesive has high bending and compressive strength and, due to low moisture absorption, has a high degree of frost resistance. To improve technical characteristics, the dry composition is mixed with an aqueous solution polymer additive Fugolastic.

a grouting composition based on epoxy resins for filling and finishing seams in swimming pools with tiles or mosaics, ensuring complete moisture resistance of the joints. The mixture is inert to alkalis and acids, resistant to the formation of fungus and mold, and not susceptible to ultraviolet radiation. The glue has a high degree of adhesion and strength, does not require daily maintenance and is environmentally friendly.

Conclusion

The list of mixtures recommended for use can be continued, but every day manufacturers offer new types of grout, the characteristics of which are higher than previously recommended materials. Therefore, it is much more important to remember not the names of the compositions, but the list of requirements that the glue must meet, and then the correct choice of material is guaranteed.
