These elements are fastened with self-tapping screws in two rows at once - a mattress support is placed on the top one, and a pair of plywood strips or chipboard sheets. It turns out that a kind of internal box is created between the mattress and the floor surface, in which it is very convenient to store sleeping accessories.

The lifting mechanism itself consists entirely of steel, and is made of two dynamic hinges, which are firmly attached to the head of the furniture.

Installation instructions

First, the closet itself is assembled, where the raised furniture will be put away.
After this, the assembly of the main part - the bed - begins. Vertical and horizontal boards are laid out, to which metal corners are simply screwed.

Important! You should start screwing the corners from the bottom row. This approach will simplify the assembly process.

Next, the box-shaped frame is screwed on. During installation, you should carefully check that all fastening elements are installed correctly so that the furniture fits into the cabinet.
On bottom part a special plywood bottom is installed, which is also bolted through required holes in elements.
Then the supporting corners are also placed on the top row and a horizontal partition for the internal space is mounted.
Next, the assembly of the actual lifting mechanism of the structure begins. On the transverse plane, which is located at the head of the bed, movable hinges are placed in the area of the upper edge. These components will allow the entire structure, when extended, to fit into a sliding cabinet.
Gas-type shock absorbers are attached to the side walls of the frame in the form of a box, somewhere at a distance of one meter from the headboard.

Bed assembly

First of all, you need to build a solid foundation for the furniture. To do this, make:

sidewalls, drawers, headboards and bottoms for drawers - made of chipboard or MDF;
the frame for the base is made of bars;
mattress cover – made of wooden planks and slats.

Then assemble the bed base from all these elements:

secure the bottom for future boxes on the timber frame;
install the drawers and sides on the frame, and on top of them - the mattress flooring;
secure the headboard to the base.

Use self-tapping screws to connect parts.

Then install the lifting mechanism. It is already on sale in finished form, so you only need to firmly seat the system on the nuts that usually come with it in the kit: first the lower steel strip is attached to the timber frame of the base, and then the top one is attached to the side part.

Advice. If you want the most durable bed possible, install it on steel frame: take the profile and use a grinder to cut it into pieces of the required dimensions, and then weld the parts into a single structure - then fix the bed frame on it.

Sheathing and finishing

When the bed structure is ready, it needs to be sheathed. This is done in order, firstly, to hide the frame and frame elements, secondly, to obtain a comfortable and soft bed, and thirdly, to give the furniture an aesthetic appearance.

Good to know: assembly must take place on flat surface. You shouldn’t do the work yourself; it’s better to call an assistant.

I have always liked bedroom furniture with convertible. The available space under the mattress allows you to put a lot of things into the bed frame; this replaces a closet or chest of drawers, which is important for small bedroom. I decided to make a double bed with a lifting mechanism myself.

I have been making furniture in my small workshop for a long time. Having the appropriate equipment and a large set of tools made solving my problem much easier. After a short search in the media, I decided on a bed design with a lifting mechanism and gas shock absorbers.

Materials

I purchased the materials needed to make a bed with a lifting mechanism at the supermarket. building materials according to the list:

furniture corners (50 × 50 mm) – 4 pcs.;
metal corner (32 × 32 mm) – 1.4 m;
MDF sheet 2440 × 1830 × 30 mm;
fiberboard sheet – 2440 × 1830 mm;
edged board 1600 × 150 × 20 mm;
inset frame for mattress ( orthopedic base on a metal frame);
furniture legs – 6 pcs.;
edge furniture tape – 10 m;
gas shock absorbers (425 mm from 800 N) – 2 pcs.;
metal strip (50 × 3 mm) – 1.3 m;
PVA glue - tube;
bolts, washers, nuts – m 6;
metal bushings (10/16 mm) – 8 pcs.

Step-by-step instruction

The work was divided into several stages:

preparation and assembly of MDF parts,
installation of an inset frame under the mattress,
production of lifting mechanisms,
Assembling a bed frame with a lifting mechanism with your own hands.

Preparation and assembly of MDF parts

On a piece of paper I drew drawings of a bed with a lifting mechanism.

On a sheet of MDF with a pencil, using a tape measure and a metal ruler, I marked the future parts of the body.
The MDF sheet was cut into pieces convenient for cutting.
On the workbench I secured parts of the MDF sheet with clamps.
I used a jigsaw to cut out elements for assembling a bed frame 1600 x 2000 with a lifting mechanism.
The ends of all parts were wiped with a damp cloth.
Pressing with an iron edge tape, ironed all the ends except those facing the floor.
I set up a headboard (1664 × 772 mm), two side drawers (2054 × 296 mm), back wall(1664 × 296 mm) and cross board (150 × 1608 × 20 mm).
On the outside of the corner joints I drilled 2 holes for confirmations.
Installed the fastener using a Phillips screwdriver.
The heads of the confirmations were covered with plastic plugs using PVA glue.
Inside the 4 corners, I installed plastic corners with a screwdriver.
To ensure additional rigidity of the frame, I installed a transverse board, connecting it to the sidewalls metal corners on screws.
The fiberboard sheet was cut with a jigsaw to dimensions of 2054 × 1664 mm.
The assembled frame was placed on its side. I secured the fiberboard bottom sheet with screws around the entire perimeter of the bed.
I drilled holes in the bottom corners of the frame and in the middle of the frame. I inserted legs into them. Plastic supports ensure easy movement of furniture on the floor. At wet cleaning The placement of the legs prevents contact of the MDF with the wet floor.

Installation of an inset frame under a mattress

I bought the insert frame disassembled, which is convenient for transporting it in transport. Following the instructions, I assembled the retractable base without much difficulty. For this it was necessary wrench and a screwdriver.

Manufacturing of lifting mechanisms

Not everyone can make lifting mechanisms themselves. They can be purchased assembled at a construction supermarket. I decided to make the lifts myself. I made the lifts according to the drawing.

For the manufacture of mechanism components it was required:

corner 32 × 32 mm, length 700 mm – 2 pcs.;
steel strip 50 x 640 x 3 mm – 2 pcs.;
ties 150 mm long – 2 pcs.;
ties 430 mm long;
articulated bushings – 8 pcs.;
gas shock absorbers – 2 pcs.

The only difficulty was the formation of vertical deflections in the steel strips for the hinged fastening of the lower ends of the arms. I had them made at a metal shop using a small press.

Assembling a bed with a lifting mechanism with your own hands

The most difficult operation remained - assembling the bed frame and lifting mechanism into a single structure. For the final assembly, I asked two of my friends to help. The work was completed according to the items in the following list.

Bed assembly steps

I drilled mounting holes in the metal frame of the inset frame.
WITH internal sides The sides of the bed frame were bolted to the lifters through the through holes.

With the help of two assistants who held the inset frame, I bolted the upper parts of the lifts to the frame.
On the outside of the sidewalls, the bolt heads were covered with plastic plugs matching the color of MDF.
I finally checked the reliability and correct fastening of the entire movable structure of the bed.

Labor and cost

The amount of working time spent on making the bed is shown in the following table.

Taking into account the time spent on purchasing, transporting materials and work interruptions, the production of this furniture took me 3 days.

All acquisition costs necessary materials wrote it down in a notepad. They made up:

hardware (confirmations, bolts, nuts, washers, bushings, screws) – 100 rubles;
furniture corners - 20 rubles;
steel corner 32 × 32 × 1400 mm – 20 rubles;
MDF sheet 2440 × 1830 x 30 mm – 2800 rub.;
fiberboard sheet 2440 × 1830 mm – 200 rubles;
furniture legs (6 pcs.) – 60 rubles;
edge furniture tape (10 m) – 70 rubles;
two gas shock absorbers – 2000 rubles;
edged board – 50 rub.

Total: 5320 rub.

I took this bed to the dacha. And for my bedroom I made another model, slightly different in the width of the body. New bed I assembled it with lifts with my own hands, measuring 180 × 200 cm. This time I made the body from laminated chipboard. Having placed thin foam rubber, covered external surfaces housings I did this using a stapler. It turned out very beautiful and inexpensive.
