Instructions for assembling a bed with a lift. How to assemble a bed with a lifting mechanism. What are lift beds made of?

Many of the residents of apartments in high-rise buildings would like to buy themselves a large bed, which will allow them to spend their holidays in comfort. But at the same time, the area of some bedrooms leaves much to be desired - sometimes it is simply not enough. Very often a situation occurs when a huge bed blocks access to the wardrobe or prevents the door to the balcony from opening, or even the door to the room. In such cases, there is only one thing rational decision is the search and purchase of furniture that would have special mechanism. The use of such structures would save a lot of space, but, unfortunately, not everyone understands how to assemble a bed with lifting mechanism. Let's look at this seemingly complex procedure and pay attention to the main nuances.

What are lift beds made of?

How to assemble a bed with a lifting mechanism? In order to assemble furniture with such functionality, you will need to assemble all the available components together:

  1. Frame.
  2. Lifting mechanism. It is he who saves us space.
  3. The simplest mattress.
  4. Closet. This item is used to fold the bed in a vertical orientation.

Design features:

  • This component is made of two horizontal boards that are about two meters long. Two transverse boards are also used, the size of which is about one and a half meters.
  • Supporting strips in the form of a metal corner are scattered around the perimeter of the structure. These elements are fastened with self-tapping screws in two rows at once - a mattress support is placed on the top one, and a pair of plywood strips or chipboard sheets. It turns out that a kind of internal box is created between the mattress and the floor surface, in which it is very convenient to store sleeping accessories.

Important! In large beds, for convenience and reliability, this compartment is equipped with a special longitudinal partition that divides the space into two parts.

  • The lifting mechanism itself consists entirely of steel, and is made of two dynamic hinges, which are firmly attached to the head of the furniture.
  • This design also includes two small lifting systems made of springs, which are equipped with special driving rods with two gas shock absorbers.

Important! The mattress included is the simplest one. Usually it is spring orthopedic.

  • The closet is made from coated chipboard with the condition that a bed can fit into it in a vertical orientation.
  • At the very bottom of this cabinet there is always a horizontal rod that secures the structure's lifting system.

Installation instructions

The assembly diagram of a bed with a lifting mechanism looks approximately as follows:

  • First, the closet itself is assembled, where the raised furniture will be put away.
  • After this, the assembly of the main part - the bed - begins. Vertical and horizontal boards are laid out, to which metal corners are simply screwed.

Important! You should start screwing the corners from the bottom row. This approach will simplify the assembly process.

  • Next, the box-shaped frame is screwed on. During installation, you should carefully check that all fastening elements are installed correctly so that the furniture fits into the cabinet.
  • On bottom part a special plywood bottom is installed, which is also bolted through required holes in elements.
  • Then the supporting corners are also placed on the top row and a horizontal partition for the internal space is mounted.
  • Next, the assembly of the actual lifting mechanism of the structure begins. On the transverse plane, which is located at the head of the bed, movable hinges are placed in the area of the upper edge. These components will allow the entire structure, when extended, to fit into a sliding cabinet.
  • Gas-type shock absorbers are attached to the side walls of the frame in the form of a box, somewhere at a distance of one meter from the headboard.

Important! When installing, make sure that the elements are positioned strictly symmetrically, since otherwise the entire system will not be able to withstand the load for long.

  • On the opposite side of the head part, special support legs are installed.
  • Next, along the outer perimeter of the corners, the support frame for the mattress itself is installed, which is also fixed with bolts.
  • The orthopedic spring mattress itself is placed on the installed frame.

It is quite difficult to understand the instructions for connecting the lift to the gas cartridge; the drawing is vague. When this bed was assembled for the first time, it took a lot of time to recognize technical details. You should pay attention to the bed frames; there are markings there for installing an iron bracket that needs to be drilled.
The base is assembled using eccentric ties, self-tapping screws and confirmations. The corners are bolted into the mortise sleeve of the panel. Initially, the frame is assembled - the drawers are connected to the headboard and footboard. The lifting mechanism is attached and the grille is applied. An economy class bed, if you use the product correctly and without maximum permissible loads, then the bed will last long enough.

In conditions of shortage square meters we have to look for ways to extract maximum benefit from literally every piece of furniture. Even from a bed that seems to be intended only for rest and cannot perform any other tasks. But as practice shows, some furniture models are very multifunctional. For example, a bed with a lifting mechanism - it can be used both for sleeping and for storing all kinds of bedding. Do you think such a bed will cost too much? You're wrong - you can even make it yourself. And our photos, drawings and assembly videos will help you with this.

Preparation for installation

Making a bed with a lifting mechanism should begin with the preparation of drawings, materials and tools.

If you are doing similar work for the first time, it is better to use ready-made furniture assembly drawings to avoid serious design errors that will cost you the functionality of the bed.

Materials and tools you will need:

  • Chipboard and MDF;
  • lifting mechanism;
  • screwdriver and screws;
  • jigsaw;
  • bars;
  • boards;

  • wooden slats;
  • furniture stapler;
  • upholstery material;
  • sheet foam rubber.

As for the lifting mechanism, it can be of two types:

  1. Gas – operates using gas spring-shock absorbers. It can be blocking - with fixation in a certain position, as well as standard - without fixation. Main advantages: noiselessness, ease of operation, soft finishing.
  2. Mechanical - operates using metal springs. The main advantage is the ability to adjust the operation of the lifting system by adding, removing, loosening and tightening springs.

Advice. If you are planning to assemble a double bed, choose a gas mechanism - it is more durable and durable.

Now you can start making furniture.

Bed assembly

First of all, you need to build a solid foundation for the furniture. To do this, make:

  • sidewalls, drawers, headboards and bottoms for drawers - made of chipboard or MDF;
  • the frame for the base is made of bars;
  • mattress cover – made of wooden planks and slats.

Then assemble the bed base from all these elements:

  • secure the bottom for future boxes on the timber frame;
  • install the drawers and sides on the frame, and on top of them - the mattress flooring;
  • secure the headboard to the base.

Use self-tapping screws to connect parts.

Then install the lifting mechanism. It is already on sale in finished form, so you only need to firmly seat the system on the nuts that usually come with it in the kit: first the lower steel strip is attached to the timber frame of the base, and then the top one is attached to the side part.

Advice. If you want the most durable bed possible, install it on steel frame: take the profile and use a grinder to cut it into pieces of the required dimensions, and then weld the parts into a single structure - then fix the bed frame on it.

Sheathing and finishing

When the bed structure is ready, it needs to be sheathed. This is done in order, firstly, to hide the frame and frame elements, secondly, to obtain a comfortable and soft bed, and thirdly, to give the furniture an aesthetic appearance.

First of all, lay a sheet of foam rubber on the base - optimal quantity Define the layers yourself. Close it from above upholstery material. It can be not only fabric, but also leatherette or leather. It is best to fasten the sheathing to the frame using a furniture stapler: its steel staples are firmly driven into the base, but at the same time remain unnoticeable on the sheathing, so they do not damage appearance furniture. Also don't forget to line decorative material and the sides of the bed. In those places where the finishing will often come into contact with the lifting mechanism, you can place small pads under the main material.

After covering, all that remains is to install the finishing accessories: support legs, wheels or rollers.

Thus, if you understand the instructions, then even making such a complex piece of furniture as a bed with a lifting mechanism will be a completely feasible task. So don’t rush to spend money on a store-bought product - with some effort, you can get an equally attractive model, but several times cheaper.

To save space, many people opt for beds with a lifting mechanism. These designs are very ergonomic and also serve as a place to store bulky items in the form of blankets, pillows and other things.

The bed is also equipped with a special drawer for linen, which ensures order and decoration in the room. Products of the presented type come in both single and double sizes.

Assembling a bed with a lifting mechanism is practically no different from assembling a regular bed, but it still has its own characteristics. This process requires certain knowledge and use professional tools, That's why better job leave this kind of work to specialists.

Bed assembly procedure

If you assemble the product yourself, we recommend following the following sequence (see drawings):

  1. After the structure has been delivered, you must first remove all parts from the packaging and check them for integrity.
  2. Then you should check the package and the presence of all components.
  3. First you need to assemble the box. The partition and front walls are attached to the side walls using 6x50 euroscrews.
  4. The side drawers are attached to the headboard and the front drawer using 6x70 euroscrews.
  5. A drawstring belt is installed on the inside of the box, and the bottom is inserted. After aligning the corners, everything is secured with screws.
  6. An orthopedic base with a lifting mechanism (the assembly diagram must be indicated in the instructions) must be installed on the bed and secured with self-tapping screws. In this case, the holes for securing the gas-lifting fastening are aligned with the pins on the box.
  7. Supports are installed on the bottom part using screws and nuts.

Good to know: assembly must take place on flat surface. You shouldn’t do the work yourself; it’s better to call an assistant.

Installation and securing of the lifting mechanism (see drawings):

  1. The bed frame is attached to the body by the lower section of the lifting mechanism, which is already attached to the frame. It takes two people to install the frame on the body, then fasten everything with screws.
  2. Installation of gas lifts on the mechanisms, the central leg on the longitudinal bar. The gas lift is secured with nuts and washers, and the nuts must first be tightened until they stop, then loosened by 0.5 turns.
  3. After the frame and gas lifts are securely fixed, the lamellas are installed.

It is important to know: After installation it is necessary to raise and lower several times flexible base, for check proper operation mechanism. The lifting mechanism and base are installed so that they do not touch the perimeter of the bed.

In this case, it is important not to rush, to carefully and correctly combine all the components to avoid further wobbling and creaking of the bed. For greater accuracy, you can watch videos on the Internet, which show step by step all the steps for assembling a bed with a lifting mechanism.

After all the manipulations done, the mattress is laid and that’s it - the bed is completely ready for use. A correctly folded structure will give its owners a complete, sound and, most importantly, healthy sleep.

How to assemble a bed with a lifting mechanism, see the instructions in the following video:

I have always liked bedroom furniture with convertible. The available space under the mattress allows you to put a lot of things into the bed frame; this replaces a closet or chest of drawers, which is important for small bedroom. I decided to make a double bed with a lifting mechanism myself.

I have been making furniture in my small workshop for a long time. Having the appropriate equipment and a large set of tools made solving my problem much easier. After a short search in the media, I decided on a bed design with a lifting mechanism and gas shock absorbers.

Tools

First I prepared the tool. Everything you need to make a bed with a lifting mechanism with your own hands is included in the following list.

  • Screwdriver for fastening furniture base frame parts.
  • Tape measure and metal ruler for marking MDF sheets.
  • Drill for drilling holes in metal parts lifts.
  • Pencil for marking.
  • Drills for wood and metal.
  • Drill and key for confirmations for assembling fragments of the bed frame.
  • Iron for edging furniture tape.
  • Jigsaw for cutting MDF.
  • Clamps (2 pcs.) for fixing housing parts when assembling the housing.
  • Hacksaw for cutting boards to required sizes.
  • Knife for removing protruding parts of furniture edge strips.
  • Set of wrenches and sockets.
  • Hammer.

Materials

I purchased the materials needed to make a bed with a lifting mechanism at the supermarket. building materials according to the list:

  • confirmations – 8 pcs.;
  • self-tapping screws 25 mm – 20 pcs.;
  • furniture corners (50 × 50 mm) – 4 pcs.;
  • metal corner (32 × 32 mm) – 1.4 m;
  • MDF sheet 2440 × 1830 × 30 mm;
  • fiberboard sheet – 2440 × 1830 mm;
  • edged board 1600 × 150 × 20 mm;
  • inset frame for mattress ( orthopedic base on a metal frame);
  • furniture legs – 6 pcs.;
  • edge furniture tape – 10 m;
  • gas shock absorbers (425 mm from 800 N) – 2 pcs.;
  • metal strip (50 × 3 mm) – 1.3 m;
  • PVA glue - tube;
  • bolts, washers, nuts – m 6;
  • metal bushings (10/16 mm) – 8 pcs.

The entire process of assembling a 160 x 200 bed with a lifting mechanism with your own hands is outlined in the following instructions.

Step-by-step instruction

The work was divided into several stages:

  • preparation and assembly of MDF parts,
  • installation of an inset frame under the mattress,
  • production of lifting mechanisms,
  • Assembling a bed frame with a lifting mechanism with your own hands.

Preparation and assembly of MDF parts

  1. On a piece of paper I drew drawings of a bed with a lifting mechanism.

  1. On a sheet of MDF with a pencil, using a tape measure and a metal ruler, I marked the future parts of the body.
  2. The MDF sheet was cut into pieces convenient for cutting.
  3. On the workbench I secured parts of the MDF sheet with clamps.
  4. I used a jigsaw to cut out elements for assembling a bed frame 1600 x 2000 with a lifting mechanism.
  5. The ends of all parts were wiped with a damp cloth.
  6. Pressing with an iron edge tape, ironed all the ends except those facing the floor.
  7. I set up a headboard (1664 × 772 mm), two side drawers (2054 × 296 mm), back wall(1664 × 296 mm) and cross board (150 × 1608 × 20 mm).
  8. On the outside of the corner joints I drilled 2 holes for confirmations.
  9. Installed the fastener using a Phillips screwdriver.
  10. The heads of the confirmations were covered with plastic plugs using PVA glue.
  11. Inside the 4 corners, I installed plastic corners with a screwdriver.
  12. To ensure additional rigidity of the frame, I installed a transverse board, connecting it to the sidewalls metal corners on screws.
  13. The fiberboard sheet was cut with a jigsaw to dimensions of 2054 × 1664 mm.
  14. The assembled frame was placed on its side. I secured the fiberboard bottom sheet with screws around the entire perimeter of the bed.
  15. I drilled holes in the bottom corners of the frame and in the middle of the frame. I inserted legs into them. Plastic supports ensure easy movement of furniture on the floor. At wet cleaning The placement of the legs prevents contact of the MDF with the wet floor.

Installation of an inset frame under a mattress

I bought the insert frame disassembled, which is convenient for transporting it in transport. Following the instructions, I assembled the retractable base without much difficulty. For this it was necessary wrench and a screwdriver.

Manufacturing of lifting mechanisms

Not everyone can make lifting mechanisms themselves. They can be purchased assembled at a construction supermarket. I decided to make the lifts myself. I made the lifts according to the drawing.

For the manufacture of mechanism components it was required:

  • corner 32 × 32 mm, length 700 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • steel strip 50 x 640 x 3 mm – 2 pcs.;
  • ties 150 mm long – 2 pcs.;
  • ties 430 mm long;
  • articulated bushings – 8 pcs.;
  • gas shock absorbers – 2 pcs.

The only difficulty was the formation of vertical deflections in the steel strips for the hinged fastening of the lower ends of the arms. I had them made at a metal shop using a small press.

Assembling a bed with a lifting mechanism with your own hands

The most difficult operation remained - assembling the bed frame and lifting mechanism into a single structure. For the final assembly, I asked two of my friends to help. The work was completed according to the items in the following list.

Bed assembly steps

  1. I drilled mounting holes in the metal frame of the inset frame.
  2. WITH internal sides The sides of the bed frame were bolted to the lifters through the through holes.

  1. With the help of two assistants who held the inset frame, I bolted the upper parts of the lifts to the frame.
  2. On the outside of the sidewalls, the bolt heads were covered with plastic plugs matching the color of MDF.
  3. I finally checked the reliability and correct fastening of the entire movable structure of the bed.

Labor and cost

The amount of working time spent on making the bed is shown in the following table.

Taking into account the time spent on purchasing, transporting materials and work interruptions, the production of this furniture took me 3 days.

All acquisition costs necessary materials wrote it down in a notepad. They made up:

  • hardware (confirmations, bolts, nuts, washers, bushings, screws) – 100 rubles;
  • furniture corners - 20 rubles;
  • steel corner 32 × 32 × 1400 mm – 20 rubles;
  • MDF sheet 2440 × 1830 x 30 mm – 2800 rub.;
  • fiberboard sheet 2440 × 1830 mm – 200 rubles;
  • furniture legs (6 pcs.) – 60 rubles;
  • edge furniture tape (10 m) – 70 rubles;
  • two gas shock absorbers – 2000 rubles;
  • edged board – 50 rub.

Total: 5320 rub.

I took this bed to the dacha. And for my bedroom I made another model, slightly different in the width of the body. New bed I assembled it with lifts with my own hands, measuring 180 × 200 cm. This time I made the body from laminated chipboard. Having placed thin foam rubber, covered external surfaces housings I did this using a stapler. It turned out very beautiful and inexpensive.
