Doors in modern houses made from strapping bars or boards. Door blocks, or door frames with doors, are installed and secured in wall openings. If to wooden walls door frames are easily nailed, then in brick and concrete walls you have to make holes for wooden plugs and nail the door frames to them with nails or pins.

When repairing door frames, existing holes are usually used, but if they are broken or repair of the fastening points is impossible, then new ones are drilled. Corks are hammered into wall holes drilled to a depth of 40-50 mm, 2-3 on each side of the box. Holes for nails are first drilled in the box. Their diameter should be 1-2 mm less than the diameter of the nail. Then the punching locations are marked through these holes.

If the box needs to be strengthened, but it is impossible to remove it, then 2-3 holes Æ8-10 mm are drilled in each side. Using an electric drill with an extended drill Æ8-10 mm with carbide cutting plates or a drill with diamond coating, holes 30-40 mm deep are drilled through the openings of the box in the wall. (These holes can be hollowed out with a bolt.) Metal pins Æ8-10 mm long and 2-5 mm shorter than the total thickness of the box wall and the depth of the hole in the wall are driven into these holes.

If there is a formation between the door frame and the wall big gap, then it is covered up cement mortar or fill out wooden slats required thickness followed by puttying.

Doors in frames are installed with gaps of 1.5-2 mm, taking into account their reduction during subsequent painting. Inside the room, the gap between the door and the floor should be within 10-20 mm.

Defective places in the door bars are cut out and filled with inserts, as in window repairs.

The frame bars and door frames can also be extended with inserts various shapes- strips or inserts - with gluing and fastening with screws. Loose corner joints of door trim bars, as well as windows, can be fastened with a square or plywood spikes inserted into sawn eyes.

Fastening of inserts, angles, hinges, mortise and rim locks, handles and other fittings is usually done with screws. Keep in mind that screws and nails do not hold well in wood if they are screwed or driven into ends or broken holes. Therefore, during repairs, longer screws or their fastening in dowels are used.

Very often the hinges on doors, windows and vents break or become loose. There are loops different sizes and designs. They consist of two halves (cards) with holes for screws, hingedly connected to each other by a rod. The holes are countersunk for countersunk heads screws.

Doors and windows are usually installed on two hinges. Window vents and transoms are attached to two permanent hinges. A permanent connection from collapsible hinges can be obtained if the rods of the two hinges are directed in different directions.

Installation of hinges is sometimes done by cutting them into wood, that is, cutting wood under each half so that the surface of the hinge is flush (at the same level) with the surface of the door and frame.

During repairs, in order not to cut into the hinges, the existing places for their fastening are used, but longer screws are used. The screws are screwed in, coated with glue, or dowels are used.

Sometimes, when repairing bars, dovetail-shaped pieces of wood coated with glue are inserted under the hinges. In the same way, as well as by cutting off the tenons, inserts are glued in at the places where the locks are installed.

If the door does not open well, first inspect the hinges and their fastening with screws.

When the door sag is low, washers or wire rings are placed on the hinge rod. To do this, using wedges driven in from below, lift the door until it stops against the top block of the frame. The hook is threaded between the rod and the loop card, the short end is pressed against the rod with pliers, and the long end is twisted until a ring is formed and cut off. The same ring is made on the shaft of another loop. The rings are lubricated with technical petroleum jelly. They make hooks for rings from brass or copper wireÆ3-5 mm.

Usually the door is hung on hinges so that when open it can be lifted and removed from the hinges. In this case, one half of the collapsible hinge remains on the frame, and the other on the door.

In order to remove the door, it is opened 90 0. Detachable loops are attached to the strapping block with the rods facing up. It takes two people to remove the door, lifting it manually or knocking wedges from below on both sides, holding it and observing safety measures.

>>Technology:Installation of vent, window and door hinges

For hanging windows, transoms, window sashes and doors, metal hinges are used. The loop consists of two flat parts - cards, connected by a hinge (Fig. 79).

Before installing the loop, check its quality. The loops should not have skewed cards: the edges of the cards should match when folded in half. Both halves of the hinge should rotate easily, without effort, around the hinge.

For vent and window hinges with dimensions 50 x 18, 60x20 and 75x30 mm, the distance from the longitudinal edge of the card to the side edge of the trim beam must be at least 6 mm, and for door hinges - 11 mm (Fig. 80).

The installation of hinges begins with cutting them to the sashes. To do this, the loop is applied to the sash at a distance from its top or bottom edge, equal to the length of the loop. In this case, you should step back from the end of the tenon by at least 10 mm (Fig. 80, b). It is not allowed for the loop to be placed on knots, cracks or other wood defects.
Having specified the location of the loops, they are marked (circled) along the contour, a groove is cut out to the thickness of the card and the centers of the holes for the mounting screws are marked with an awl. Screw the hinges parallel to the edge of the block according to the rules for connecting parts with screws. After this, they begin to adjust the window sash to the place where it is secured.
The sash is applied to the box and the places where the second hinge card is attached are marked. Select the wood in the sash to the thickness of the card and mark the locations of the screws. Screw each hinge with one screw and check for correct fit. Eliminate distortions, if any, and screw in the remaining screws.

Vents and window hinges They are attached equally to both the left and the right sash. Door hinges can be right or left. This should be taken into account when securing them. Hinges can be overhead (PN) and mortise (PV) (Fig. 79, b, c). The letter “P” is stamped on the right hinges, and “L” on the left ones.
To hang doors that open towards themselves to the right, use right hinges (Fig. 81, b). On the right hinges, when viewed from the chamfers of the holes, the hinge pin is on the right. Doors opening to the left are hung on left hinges, which have a rod on the left when viewed from the chamfers of the holes (Fig. 81, a).

Practical work
Study of the design of vent, window and door hinges

1. Consider vents, windows and door hinges various sizes. Check their quality (coincidence of map contours, absence of distortions).

It is because of weakened hinges that windows or doors begin to creak over time and then close completely poorly.
However, this small problem can be solved very easily, and also very quickly.

What tools, accessories, materials will we need to strengthen door and window hinges?

  • Firstly. Drill/driver
  • Secondly. Pins for choppers
  • Third. Hammer
  • Fourthly. Chisel
  • Fifthly. Adhesive for wood products

How can you strengthen door and window hinges? We bring to your attention a simple and clear step-by-step guide.

Step one. Needs to be removed doors(or window) with loops and unscrew the old hinges.

Step two. Large Using a wood drill you need to drill out the locations of the mounting holes, so increasing them in diameter and, if this can be allowed, then by deepening them.

Step three. It is necessary to prepare chopsticks from pieces of dowel corresponding to the drilled holes width. Next, you need to carefully and evenly distribute glue for wooden products on one of the ends of each of these chops, and only after that you need to drive the chops into the drilled holes.

Step four. Using the same principle, you need to prepare all the other chops. Then you need to leave them for a while so that the glue dries well enough.

Step five. All parts of the chopsticks protruding from the plugs must be carefully cut off using a chisel, leveling the surface of the chopstick with the surface of the door or frame (or window frame).

Step six. Now you need to re-drill new neat holes in the fixed plugs for the same fasteners, and then re-hang the door or window in the old place. Now they will be securely fastened, and not dangle on loose hinges, as before.

Step seven. Our work is done conscientiously! We really did it ourselves strengthen door and window hinges! The door or window now sits in the old place like new. And it wouldn’t hurt to embellish their appearance. This can be done with the help of new beautiful fittings. But this, as they say, is a completely different story...

Hello dear readers of the site. In this article you will learn about the doors of a closet or bedside table. This is a disease of any furniture made from chipboard.

I have been using this method for a long time and it has never let me down.

1 . We take two drills with different diameters: one 5-6mm, and the second 9-10mm, and drill out the holes into which the furniture screws were screwed to a depth of 10mm. We drill first with a thin drill, and then with a thick one. Do it carefully so as not to make a through hole..

2 . Wooden stick We adjust it to the diameter of the holes and cut off two chops with a height of 9-10mm.

3 . Coat the holes and caps well with glue. Then we hammer in the chops and leave them like that until the next day so that the glue dries.

4 . We put the loop in its place and make marks where the screws will go in. Using a drill with a diameter of 4 mm, we drill holes to a depth of 10 mm, and then drive the screws so that later they can be easily screwed into place.
Take a 4mm drill bit, since the diameter of the self-tapping screw is 6.5 mm, and if you make the hole wider, you will have to do everything again.

5 . Put the loop in place and screw it on. As you can see, everything is simple.

If your furniture is still Soviet-made, then it will be enough to use a drill of a slightly larger diameter to drill out the holes into which the screws were screwed, pour in a little PVA glue, drive in the wooden tips and leave for a day for the glue to dry. Then also drill a hole in the chopstick with a thin 2.5 mm drill and screw the loop into place.

There is another option. PVA glue is poured into the holes, 3-4 matches are inserted and the loop is immediately screwed into place. But it's not very good way, since after a while the loop begins to dangle again. Although as an option, those who don’t have time will also do it.

Now you know, how to fix a loose furniture hinge.
Good luck!

Door hinges are the main elements door leaf. The stability of the door, as well as how it can fulfill its purpose, largely depends on high-quality and securely fastened hinges.

But sometimes, over time, due to many opening and closing cycles, door hinges can weaken a little. The consequence of this may be the door being skewed and difficulties arising when opening it. It should be noted that in order to solve such a problem, you can carry out a process such as strengthening door hinges, which, by the way, is very easy to do even on your own.

Materials and tools

To carry out a process such as strengthening door hinges You will need materials such as wooden wedges, matches or small pegs, as well as wood glue. As for the tools, you need to stock up on a screwdriver, a hammer and a drill with a small-diameter wood drill.

The process of strengthening door hinges

The process of strengthening the loops itself consists of several main stages, the sequence of which plays a rather important role.

1. First you need to remove the door leaf from the hinges. It is best to do this together, since almost every door weighs quite a lot.

2. Using a hammer, you need to knock out the rod of the lower, and then the upper loop.

3. Using a screwdriver, you need to unscrew the screws that hold both hinges. This should be done very carefully, trying not to damage the fasteners, since they will also be needed when attaching the hinges.

4. If there is loosening of the screws, then it is necessary to drive pre-prepared wooden wedges or matches into the holes that remain after unscrewing the fasteners. It is worth noting that preliminary data wooden crafts must be thoroughly lubricated with wood glue.

5. The remainder of the matches or pegs that do not fit into the screw holes must be cut off with a well-sharpened cutter. This must be done very carefully so as not to cut yourself.

6. Before screwing in a new screw, you need to drill a pilot hole with a small diameter drill, and lubricate the screw itself with wood glue. Thus, it will be possible to increase the accuracy of installation of the fastener, and hence the strength of the fastening.

7. The final stage will be the installation of hinges and the subsequent installation of the door leaf in its rightful place. It is also necessary to check the door for functionality.

Having completed all such work, you can eliminate various kinds of squeaks, as well as sagging of the door leaf.

It should be noted that in some cases the cause of creaking and also warping of the door may not be the weakening of the hinges, but an error in their installation. So, for example, by embedding such elements in doorway, you may accidentally remove more material than necessary. You can correct this situation and eliminate all problems by simply making special linings yourself.

Materials and tools

To carry out the process of making the backing for the hinges, you will need cardboard, which will be used as the main material, as well as scissors and a screwdriver.

Substrate manufacturing process

1. First you need to remove the door and unscrew the hinges ( this process can be carried out in parallel with loop reinforcement).

2. Next, you should cut out a piece of cardboard prepared in advance, which will be the same size as the cutout for the loop. This very cardboard element must be placed in the cutout and the loops re-attached. It should be noted that wood glue can also be used as an additional fastener.

3. The next step will be to install the door leaf and check its functionality. If the door is still “dangling” or other consequences of weakening hinges are observed, then you can add more cardboard to the backing.

It should be noted that loops, as mentioned above, are very important element any door leaf. Therefore, it is very important to prevent the weakening of such elements in time and carry out all necessary work to eliminate such defects. If none of the above methods can resolve the problems with the hinges, then you need to re-attach them to the door leaf. Of course, it is imperative to choose a new installation location at the end of the door leaf, where the wood has not yet cracked.

By carrying out all the necessary repair procedures on door hinges in a timely manner, you can be sure that such a door will last for many more decades. It is very important, when carrying out any of the above methods of repairing hinges, to strictly adhere to the sequence of actions, as well as the accuracy and precision of execution.
