The siphon for the shower tray does not work. Siphon for a shower cabin with a low tray? Siphon maintenance and care

From a structural point of view, a siphon for shower tray represented by several components, due to which, it clearly performs the function of an intermediate element combining the shower tray with the sewer riser.

Such a plumbing device is responsible for draining wastewater and preventing unpleasant odors from entering the shower room.

For installation in are produced special types siphons, differing in some design features and materials used in the manufacturing process. Siphon models can be standard, automatic or click-clack type.

The main types of siphons for installation in a shower stall:

  • pipe or elbow plastic models, represented by several tubes that have a certain U or S-shaped curvature. Most often, the design is rigid, requiring careful adjustment of all elements during installation and is intended for deep pallets. The advantages of the type are represented by increased reliability;
  • bottle models They are optimally suited for installation in any type of pallet, due to their special shape and ease of connection to the sewer system. Wastewater is discharged via a side pipe. The design is convenient to operate and quite easy to maintain, but installation must be carried out with some skills, and in addition, its impressive dimensions will require the allocation of significant free space;
  • corrugated models belong to the category of not very reliable plumbing devices, but easy to use self-installation. The main disadvantages are the risk of cracks appearing in the bend areas during operation, rapid contamination and the need to use special clamps during installation.

Particularly popular today are drain drains that are simple in design, the height of which starts from 80 mm. The models do not have overflow inlets or plugs and are therefore designed for installation in low trays.

Modern siphon devices may have an overflow system, a removable protective basket and bottom valve, as well as a decorative grille.

With low tray

Despite its visual simplicity, choosing the right siphon for installation in low-level plumbing fixtures can be quite problematic, which is explained by the large number of standard sizes and variety of shapes. When choosing, you should focus on such a limiting factor as the small mounting height of the model.

Siphon for low tray

It is also very important to remember that when installing ultra-low shower trays, it is necessary to pay special attention to the siphon throughput, which is due to the high risk of blockages inside the system.

Replacing a siphon in a shower stall with a low tray is carried out by completely dismantling the plumbing fixture, which, unfortunately, is a specific drawback of such models.

With high tray

The most basic problems in choosing a siphon for a high shower tray are represented by the need to correctly determine the technical characteristics, including the diameter of the neck, as well as the throughput of the device.

The second parameter is very important, as it controls the rate of wastewater discharge and minimizes the risk of clogging the drain system or sewer riser.

Disassembled siphon

For the installation of shower stalls with a high tray, experts recommend giving preference to siphons with a diameter of 9.0 cm.

Smaller elements help to retain an unnecessary supply of water in the interior, which negatively affects the strength characteristics of the siphon. Also requiring attention is the presence in the design of a self-cleaning function or a simple mesh that prevents the formation of blockages.

With water seal

The siphon forms a water seal that prevents the spread of putrid sewer odors in the room. Classic version water seal is used in most devices. Traditional self-flushing siphons are widely recognized today, due to minimalism and the peculiarities of the operating principle. In such devices, water pressure allows you to flush the entire pipe part of the siphon, removing blockages into the sewer riser.

Siphon for Velplex QYD-01 shower tray with water seal D 90 mm

The design of the water seal is represented by a curved section of pipe with a water plug that effectively blocks unpleasant odors in a sewer pipe, but if the system for a long time is not used, water stagnates with all the ensuing unpleasant consequences, so in some cases such models become ineffective.

A membrane or float-type dry siphon for a shower tray has a channel that is locked by means of a spring-loaded valve or a pop-up float.

Manufacturers

The most popular and in demand metal-plastic models of shower siphons from domestic and foreign manufacturers:

  • multi-position model WIRQUIN BOND JAMES in black from the French manufacturer Wirquin. It is distinguished by the presence of a self-centering gasket and a compact removable filter;
  • model WIRQUIN Tourbillon gray from the French manufacturer Wirquin. Characterized by an ABS chrome grille and an easy to clean removable cup;
  • domestic model UNICORN for deep trays with chrome overflow, flexible outlet in sewer system and a cup made of stainless steel;
  • Model Temporlekh Plus from German manufacturer Viega, which has a convenient horizontal outlet, a chrome plate and high throughput;
  • the Raindrain model from the German manufacturer Hansgrohe, characterized by high productivity (51 l/min), for a water level of 150 mm and the presence of an external steel panel;
  • German model Ideal Standard, characterized by a drain hole diameter of 9.0 cm and good throughput;
  • Uniflex model from the Swiss manufacturer Geberit, which has the ability to dismantle the immersion pipe and its retainer, an installation height of 8.0 cm, and mobility of the outlet pipe within 15°.

Siphon for shower cabin IDO SHOWERAMA

Manufacturers produce shower siphons of horizontal and vertical types. The first option is used when the height of the shower tray is small or completely absent. In this case the flow Wastewater is directed to the side, which minimizes the size of the device.

Vertical or direct-flow siphons are characterized by water draining downwards, which increases throughput systems.

Price

The average cost of models with an optimal price-quality ratio is quite affordable for the average consumer:

  • WIRQUIN BOND JAMES - 900-950 rubles;
  • WIRQUIN Tourbillon - 430-440 rubles;
  • UNICORN - 700-990 rubles;
  • Temporlekh Plus - 3300-3400 rubles;
  • Raindrain - 1300-4800 rubles;
  • Ideal Standard - 2300 rub.;
  • Uniflex - 2400 rub.

The cost in most cases varies depending on design features siphon, as well as the material used in the manufacture, brand recognition and the manufacturer’s pricing policy.

When choosing, not only specifications siphon, but also its diameter, which affects the tightness of the connection being made.

Siphons are different color scheme decorative cover, which can be gold, bronze and white tones, as well as chrome.

Shower stall designers regularly develop newer siphon models with a reduced height, making it possible to make the installed bottom part of the tray convenient for use not only by children and the elderly, but also by persons with disabilities.

Disposal of contaminated water is important point when using a bathtub, sink, bidet and other appliances. Therefore, a siphon for a shower stall with a low tray plays an important role in the design of plumbing products - in many ways, it depends on the drain fittings whether the user will receive the expected level of convenience and comfort.

Moreover, this is relevant for pallets of any technological complexity and cost.

In this material we will talk about how a siphon for a shower stall works, we will understand their varieties and give the basic rules for choosing a device.

Each modern drain is a key element of the entire water drainage system. The proper functioning of a free-standing pallet depends on the reliability, efficiency and correct connection of this part of the structure.

Any siphon is designed to solve the following problems:

  • discharge contaminated water to sewer pipe, and uninterruptedly;
  • prevent the entry of foul odor into the living space.

To successfully resolve the problem specified in the first paragraph, drains are made various shapes, size. The connection angles and drain diameter also differ. All this allows any buyer to find the right solution.

A special feature of siphons for low pallets is their compactness

To prevent sewer odors from entering the bathroom, two methods are used, including the use of a water seal and a membrane.

Any water seal is a water plug formed by bending the siphon so that the drain pipe is always blocked by a certain amount of liquid, even when the shower is not used for a long time.

This is a reliable and proven method for decades that allows you to satisfy all customers.

The water seal has been replaced by a compact, reliable and durable silicone membrane that can work even in the cold

Membrane - is a soft silicone tube that stretches when fluid is drained and accepts initial position in the absence of water. This modern way is characterized by efficiency and reliability.

Types of drains for low pallets

Although visually the siphon is a simple plastic product, but in most cases potential buyers are faced with the problem of choosing it. Since there is a large number of standard sizes, shapes.

Despite all the diversity, they produce products of all certain varieties, including pipe, corrugated, bottle. Separately, it is worth highlighting dry siphons.

In addition, not all of the listed species are optimal solution specifically for low pallets, since their height is a significant and important limitation. This fact further simplifies the selection procedure for a person who does not know the intricacies of this issue.

The difficulty of adjusting the pipe siphon

Modern pipe drains are compact, so choosing the right option is easy even for the lowest pallets.

In addition to this important advantage, the products are characterized by rigid, durable design. And the smooth inner surface eliminates the need for frequent cleaning, which is a significant advantage.

The tubular siphon is reliable, durable and compact, but its rigid design is a disadvantage during installation, as it is difficult to fit

Any model has a water seal that eliminates the appearance of unpleasant odors in the living room. The presence of such an element in the design leads to the fact that the shape of the product is S or U-shaped.

The variety of shapes facilitates the installation of the siphon. But the rigid structure still requires precise fitting and alignment of elements during installation, which is a relative disadvantage.

Corrugation - convenient, cheap, short-lived

The so-called corrugated siphons are named for their material, which is elastic plastic hose. This also determined the main characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of these products.

The corrugation is flexible, so it is easy, convenient and quick to install. The manufacturing material is low in cost and as a result, this type is the most affordable among all other varieties.

But the disadvantages of such siphons are no less impressive - for flexibility, the corrugated hose is made as thin as possible, which negatively affects its durability.

The main problem occurs due to the fact that the product to form a water seal is given S or U shape. After which, significant stress arises at the bending points, which the thin-walled material cannot withstand for a long time, and therefore fails.

The quality of workmanship does not provide any guarantee of reliability - to a large extent, everything depends on the tension in the bending areas and the loads during use.

Corrugated siphons have another important drawback, which is due to the design of the hose. So, in its internal folds constantly and in large quantities dirt is deposited, coming along with the drained water.

Corrugated siphons are inexpensive, easy to install, but least durable

As a result, such products quickly become clogged, so they must be cleaned frequently. Moreover, this should not be done with the metal brushes that many are accustomed to, since there is a high probability that the thin-walled hose will be damaged. After which it will definitely have to be changed.

Despite these negative aspects, the affordable cost makes corrugated siphons the most popular type. However, it should be remembered that it is simple a budget option and if possible, it should be abandoned.

Dry version of the drain device

So-called dry siphons are a relatively new type of drainage equipment. The main feature is that it is equipped with a silicone membrane, the principle of operation of which is described above.

This made it possible to refuse, which brought tangible benefits. And most importantly, it made it possible to significantly reduce the size of the product. Now it has become possible to install it even under the lowest pallets, which is an undeniable advantage in the eyes of users. This innovation simplifies installation and saves space.

It is important that dry siphons are less contaminated than all other types. The reason lies in the presence of fewer bends and parts, which prevents dirt from forming massive plugs.

The reason for the least reliability of corrugated siphons is the significant stress at the bend points. As a result, they often fail

In addition, this type of siphons is reliable and durable. This is also true for the silicone membrane itself, which is insensitive to different temperatures and their differences.

This means that it easily tolerates proximity to water seals, which are the main enemies of water seals, since they simply dry out all the moisture inside the siphons to prevent sewer odors from entering the room. That is high temperatures and dryness do not affect the performance and durability of such products.

An important advantage dry siphons are able to remain operational even in severe frosts. Therefore they great option for inconsistently heated bathhouses and houses, since there is no need to carry out conservation by removing water, as is the case with water seals, and this greatly increases comfort.

But this species also has its own fly in the ointment - their considerable cost. Repairs are also expensive, although breakdowns do not happen often.

Features of bottle models

This type of siphon got its name for its resemblance to the shape of a bottle; the dimensions are also almost similar. As a result, most low shower owners will not be able to install these products due to limited space under their shower stalls. And it is additionally needed to disassemble the siphon before cleaning.

But there are all sorts of situations, therefore, if there is enough space under the pallet, then it is worth remembering that all products belonging to this type are durable, simple in design, and easy to clean from dirt.

The bottle siphon has become compact, but it is still rarely suitable for installation on a low tray

To perform the cleaning procedure, simply unscrew bottom part bottle itself and then rinse it. This will only take a few minutes, and the procedure is performed without the use of any special tool. It will take a little more time to install the removed element.

Such siphons operate on the principle of a water seal. It is formed by an inlet and an outlet located on top of the structure and a unscrewing lower part.

All bottle drain models are easier to install than tubular ones, and this is also an advantage, and a significant one.

But, as mentioned above, this siphon is an excellent option for a shower with a high tray.

The owner of a low-sided product should take the necessary measurements before purchasing to ensure there is sufficient space for installation. Or it will all end with the need to return the purchased drainage equipment to the store

Product management nuances

Often during operation of the pan there is a need to control the water level, that is, it will need to be made larger or smaller.

This can happen when washing a child, doing laundry, warming up the structure, to provide greater comfort, and so on. In such situations, you will have to close the drain hole of the siphon to stop the drainage of liquid.

Cheap way to adjust

To perform the described procedure, the drain fittings are equipped various devices and mechanisms.

There are 3 main control options:

  • using a cork;
  • automatic;
  • click-clack option.

Each of these methods has its own advantages and disadvantages, which makes using the pallet more comfortable or vice versa. It also has a significant impact on the cost of the siphon.

Such a device as a cork is familiar to everyone, as it has found its place in the designs of bathrooms and showers since archaic times. To use it to block or open the drain hole. a person has to perform a number of not always convenient manipulations.

This option is the most affordable, since the cost of traffic jams is low. In case of loss or failure, the owner of the pallet will also not suffer significant financial losses.

A siphon plug is the simplest way to control the drain, and the chain will prevent it from rolling away somewhere at the most inopportune moment

It has only one drawback, but today it is significant - it is the need to come into contact with water, which is especially unpleasant when it is contaminated.

If the above minus does not impress you, then you can safely buy a siphon equipped with a stopper. Moreover, it will help save money, because it belongs to budget fittings. Other options will significantly increase the cost of purchasing drainage equipment.

Automatic control option

This method makes the drain control procedure more comfortable. An automatic siphon is a common product belonging to one of the above types. Additionally, it is equipped with a lever connected to a damper that closes the drain hole upon command.

For comfort, the control is installed in the area of the mixer. That is, a person does not need to come into contact with contaminated water, bend over, or perform any other inconvenient manipulations. This is the main advantage of any automatic siphon, but its cost becomes noticeably higher.

What is a Click-clack button?

This is the most modern way to control the discharge of contaminated water. Click-clack is a valve installed on the drain hole that changes position when pressed with your foot.

That is, during the first manipulation, the drainage of fluid stops, and during the second operation, it opens.

The click-clack button is the most modern and in a convenient way drain control, since it is always in the right place and does not require significant effort

The valve is installed in such a way that it is always convenient to operate, even for people with different physical abilities.

Tangible advantages are the absence additional work during installation, since this mechanical plug is part of the siphon. Unlike the automatic siphon lever, which must be mounted separately.

In addition, the click-clack valve is reliable, attractive design. An obvious disadvantage is that the cost of siphons equipped with this device is not the most affordable, which does not contribute to their mass distribution.

In the same time potential buyer It is worth paying attention to the peculiarity of the low pan - it is less intended for regulating the water level than a deep one. Therefore, the advantages that the rather expensive automatic siphon and click-clack provide are partially neutralized in this case.

This indicates that the owner of a low pallet should think carefully about whether he needs to overpay for expensive options with reduced efficiency. Or simply limit yourself to using a cheap and familiar cork on a chain, so that a valuable device does not get lost at certain moments.

Since low trays are shallow, in most cases there is no hole for an overflow. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to the fact that there is no such practical function as overflow on siphons intended for low-sided products

Device selection rules

Despite the large number of siphons on the market, make right choice not so difficult, even for a person far from this topic. You just need to know a few important rules.

When choosing, you must do the following:

  1. Check technical specifications, including throughput. Since the siphon must be quite productive, that is, it must provide drainage required quantity contaminated water.
  2. Study the design features. For example, to clarify whether it is possible to precisely adjust the siphon during installation, to fit into the drain hole of the pan.
  3. Make sure it is easy to clean. This must be done if you do not want to regularly remove dirt or completely dismantle the siphon, or even along with the pan.
  4. Check the quality of workmanship, assembly, and absence of signs of damage.

Any siphon is attached to a low tray where there is a special hole. They come in diameters of 52 and 62 mm. Right size It is necessary to clarify in advance what can be done using a pallet passport or regular measurements.

You should not install a 52mm product in a larger hole. Since even the use of gaskets and sealants, including the popular silicone, will not lead to a positive result.

The reason is that during operation the joint will be subject to significant loads and temperature changes, which the seal is not required to withstand. There are fastening parts for this.

All of the above indicates that the drain pipe and the pan hole must fit each other perfectly - only this will ensure longevity of use.

In addition, a drain pipe with a smaller diameter than required may not provide the required performance. As a result, you will have to constantly control the water pressure, which is inconvenient.

The required capacity of the siphon is provided by 52 and 62 mm drain pipes. But you should know that they can only cope with a water level not exceeding 12 cm. If the depth can be greater, then you should use products equipped with a 90 mm drain pipe.

Low pallets do not have an overflow, which can save you from troubles in the form of spilled water on the floor, or even flooding your neighbors or your home.

Therefore, the siphon must perform its functions uninterruptedly, which can be facilitated by the self-cleaning function, which prevents clogging of the internal volume of the product with subsequent overflow of water.

The protective mesh effectively prevents large dirt particles from clogging the siphon, but remember that it also needs to be cleaned periodically

Self-cleaning occurs due to special shapes and bends in the siphon design, which prevent dirt from accumulating inside. The disadvantage is that additional costs from manufacturers affect the cost of the product, but it is worth spending money on such an option.

If it is not possible to purchase a self-cleaning siphon, then drain pipe must be protected with a special mesh. It works as a coarse filter, so it helps capture most large dirt particles. This makes it possible to effectively protect the drain fittings from clogging.

But anything can happen, so in any case it should be possible to easily clean the internal channels of the siphon. So, you should consider how the drain fittings will be accessed while using the pallet.

To make the procedure easier, it is better to buy a siphon with a control hole - unscrewing one screw is much easier than dismantling the entire product.

Siphon assembly and installation

If desired, drain fittings of any type can be installed independently. This must be done after on the frame. If you do this, you may accidentally damage structural parts.

When installing pallets, cement and foam are often used, which then makes it difficult to access the drain fittings, and given that their service life is relatively short, this is a disadvantage

To perform installation, you must follow these recommendations:

  1. Unpack and disassemble the purchased siphon.
  2. Apply sealant around the perimeter of the pan drain hole. This is an easy operation as there is a groove there which makes the operation convenient and avoids mistakes.
  3. The sealant is covered with a gasket included in the fitting kit.
  4. Next is the siphon, or rather, its inlet pipe installed in the drain hole of the pan. Since the product is plastic, you should handle its threads carefully when screwing.
  5. The outlet should be directed towards the sewer pipe.
  6. Assemble the siphon. For this purpose, the lid is first installed, then its connection is attached and tightened.

The top of the gasket is again treated with sealant; this will not cause any difficulties either, since it has a recess that just needs to be filled. At the end of installation, the drain fittings are connected to the sewer system.

Despite the variety of siphons on the market, choosing the right product is relatively simple. All you need is a little knowledge and care when purchasing.

Also, you should not save too much, since any siphon has a service life that is several times shorter than that of the pallet itself, and the durability of inexpensive products may be even lower. Which will result in additional costs and inconvenience.

While studying the material, did you have any questions about selection or installation? Please ask them in the comments section, and we will try to answer as quickly as possible.

Today shower cabins are installed both in large apartments, and in small spaces. One of the main conditions proper operation plum is not only the correct choice of model in all respects, but also high-quality installation. If you pay attention to all the details, you can get a drain that will function without interruption for a long time.

Siphons for shower stalls include several parts: drain and overflow. It is worth noting right away that overflows are not installed in every model, as they may not be suitable.

As for plums, there are 3 main types:

  1. Ordinary. Drains of this type are equipped with plugs, when closed, water begins to flow into the shower tray. In such drains, the drain holes direct the water into a rigid or corrugated pipe, which most often has a collapsible elbow. Such models, as a rule, belong to the category of budget ones, but experts believe that this model already outdated.
  2. Auto. They include an automatic handle. If it turns, the plug moves and the drain closes. This type of drain does not have plugs or a hydraulic valve, but it is equipped with a handle that allows you to control the plug.
  3. System click clack. This type belongs to the newest developments that allow you to control the plug by pressing just one button, which is located at the top of the device. Control is most often exercised with the foot. Pressing it the first time closes the cap, the second time opens it. This type places the plug not on the surface, but inside the siphon.

The hole that is made for the siphon can be made either at the bottom or on the side of the pan, it all depends on the main design.

Selecting a siphon for a shower cabin with a low tray

Representatives of the shower cabins and trays market can provide big choice. All models differ in height, shape and volume. In addition, even drain holes can be located in different places. That is why siphons for shower cabins must have certain design features.

Most often, siphons are provided as a set with a shower cabin or tray. If it fully satisfies all your requirements, you can safely install it.

If the kit did not include a siphon and you need to purchase one, please note that the purchase must be made taking into account the depth of the drain. This must be taken into account because the siphon is attached under the cabin. Typically, the height of the siphon starts from 15cm. To ensure that installation does not bring difficulties, it is better to give preference to a low model.

Specialists continue to develop new models, the height of which becomes smaller with each release.

It is thanks to this that you can purchase a shower stall or tray as low as possible in relation to the floor, which greatly simplifies the task of going inside.

Bottle siphon for shower tray

This type of device got its name due to the fact that it has a rigid structure and is shaped like a bottle. The upper part of such a siphon contains a pipe, the end of which is attached to the drain outlet. The drain connector is located on the side of the cylinder. This arrangement creates a water seal. The garbage that settles is stored in a “bottle” until the next transportation to the sewer.

The bottle siphon is large in size and takes up a lot of free space. This type is used exclusively for shower cabins that are equipped with high trays.

If you compare the bottle-type siphon and the knee design, you can understand that the former are easier to install, and they can also be easily disassembled if they need to be cleaned.

Features of a siphon for a shower cabin with a high tray

As for the features that you should pay attention to when buying a siphon for a shower stall that includes a high tray, there are not many of them.

The main thing you need to pay attention to first is its technical characteristics. More precisely, this is the diameter of the neck. If you follow European standards, then its diameter should be from 52 to 90mm. However, it is precisely these standards that this moment they are produced. To choose the right siphon, you need to measure the diameter of the hole and correlate it with the neck of the siphon.

You need to understand that the high-quality sealing of the shower depends on the accuracy of the siphon’s fit.

The next thing you need to focus on is throughput. This point is very important, a lot depends on it, and this is not only the speed of water drainage, but also the predisposition to blockages. If we talk about cabins with a high tray, then a siphon with a diameter of 90mm is best suited here. A smaller size will store an unnecessary supply of water, which will affect the strength of the siphon itself.

And last but not least important factor- design. It depends on the design whether it will become clogged. It should be noted that there are models of siphons that are designed to self-clean, but if this type is too expensive, you can purchase a model with a mesh. Neglecting this part can lead to blockage, which can only be eliminated by dismantling.

How to install a siphon for a shower stall (video)

In conclusion, we can add that choosing the right siphon for a shower stall is the key to eliminating many troubles. Firstly, it is an operation that will not cause problems after a long period. Secondly, significant savings in effort and nerves, because a suitable siphon will not allow unnecessary situations to arise.

When purchasing plumbing equipment, we hope for long and flawless operation of the devices. At the same time, we quite often forget that much depends not so much on the model or cost of the structure, but on the quality of its installation. A properly connected shower siphon guarantees reliable operation of the entire system.

Types of siphon designs - what to choose?

The drain siphon is a very important component, which not only ensures unhindered drainage dirty water, but also blocks unpleasant odors from the sewer.

It is a curved pipe that retains some of the water on its way from the cabin pan to the sewer. The secret to the successful operation of the design lies in the presence of a so-called water lock, which is formed in an upwardly curved segment of the pipe filled with liquid. Thanks to it, unpleasant sewer odors do not enter the apartment. Using a siphon, all plumbing fixtures are connected to the sewer system, with the exception of those in which the water lock is an integral part of the structure.

When choosing a siphon for a shower tray, you should know that this seemingly simple device can be of several types, with significantly different design features:

  • Pipe or elbow siphons. They are a curved piece of pipe, most often U or S-shaped. Due to their shape, they ensure the constant presence of water in the upper segment of the system, which acts as a water seal. For ease of use, a hole can be located at the bottom point of the structure to remove blockages without dismantling the entire structure. A variety of this type is considered to be a corrugated siphon, distinctive feature which is not only the shape of the pipe, but also the ability to secure it in the desired configuration using a clamp. Thus, the structure can be easily placed in the most convenient way for use and organize high-quality drainage of water from the shower stall, regardless of how the sewer pipes are located. Another advantage of the system is that there is a single connection point at the sink outlet, which minimizes the possibility of leaks. Disadvantages include sensitivity to high and low temperatures and rapid contamination of folds.

Siphon for shower cabin pipe or elbow type

    Bottle structures have a rigid shape and their appearance resemble a bottle. The siphon cylinder is closed at the ends, in its top part a pipe attached to a plumbing outlet is inserted. Another pipe designed to drain water is located on the side. The drain hole is made slightly higher than the lower cut of the vertical pipe, so a water seal is formed in the cylinder. Organizing a drainage system for a shower stall using such a siphon is quite simple: compared to a knee siphon, it is easier to install, easier to disassemble and clean.

This is what it looks like bottle siphon. It is much more often installed than the cranked one, because it is more convenient to handle.

Different types of devices can be used in different cab models. Much depends on the depth of the tray and the preferences of the owner. There is another system that is used for these purposes, the so-called shower drains. The device can be installed directly into the floor or into a tray. The height of the ladders is from 8 to 20 cm, but it is believed that the smaller it is, the better.

The construction is extremely simple and is designed for unimpeded drainage of water from the pan.

Features of installation of the structure

The installation of the drain is carried out during the installation of the shower cabin after the base for installing the tray has been prepared. There are several stages of the installation process:

  1. We correctly set the angle of the drain pan to the sewer tee. To do this, first turn the pallet upside down and screw it into the right places studs that come with the cabin. We prepare the power elements by screwing restrictive elements onto them. We put the power elements on the studs installed on the pallet. We fix the siphon together with a flexible hose. Using a level, we adjust the power frame so that it is 2-3 cm above the bottom point of the siphon. Using nuts, we finally fix the power structure. We turn the pallet over, set it in place and adjust the height of the legs. As a result, the lower point of the water drainage hole should be 5 degrees higher than the sewer tee.
  2. We connect the drain for the shower stall. To do this, insert a mesh into the drain hole. For better protection the assembly can be pre-coated with sealant. Having installed the gasket, use a screw to connect the tee. Then we connect the siphon with the outlet and the elbow, but do not forget that the joints are sealed with gaskets. We insert the outlet into the hole in the sewer pipe and seal the area with a special coupling and sealant. We finally connect the tee and siphon.

Often, deep trays are equipped with a special plumbing system called an overflow drain for a shower stall. It is used to prevent water from overflowing over the edge of the pan. The drain in such a system is installed as described above.

The overflow pipe is connected to the drain tee, securing it securely with a nut and a conical seal

The speed of water flow depends on the proper installation of the shower stall drain, and, according to by and large, the ability to use plumbing equipment. You can successfully perform responsible work yourself; you just need to follow the instructions and carry out all operations efficiently. The result of your efforts will be a perfectly functioning, comfortable shower stall.

Nowadays, the plumbing market has been conquered by compact and convenient shower boxes, which become an addition to the bathtub or completely replace it.

Important integral part This equipment is a siphon for the shower tray, thanks to which wastewater is removed and sewer gases that are hazardous to health are not allowed to enter the shower stall and the room. In order for the drain in the shower stall to perform its functions efficiently, you should select it correctly according to the technical specifications.

Purpose and varieties

Plastic models are now widely used - they are practical, durable, and compatible with PVC sewer pipes.

The variety of shower trays in terms of height, shape, and location of the drain hole determines the presence of design features in the proposed siphons. Their mandatory element is a drain having different configuration and length. Sometimes the kit includes an overflow, but more often it has to be installed separately.

The simplest siphon for a shower tray consists of several parts:

  • drain grates;
  • sealing gasket under the grille - usually it is made of white rubber;
  • outlet outlet with a special seat for the seal;
  • gaskets for tight connections drain device with an outlet pipe (at least 3-5 mm thick);
  • a connecting screw screwed into the pipe nut through the central hole of the grille;
  • main part (drain) - this device helps create a water seal.

The outlet can be connected to the sewer with a corrugated hose or a pipe mounted on a slope.

Based on the principle of operation and design of the drain, siphons are of two types:

  1. Pipe - its main part is made in the form of a U-shaped or S-shaped elbow, which is constantly filled with water, so that the smell from the sewer pipe does not penetrate into the room. A tubular shower drain is made from a rigid or plastic (corrugated) pipe.
  2. Flask (bottle). It requires more space than the previous one and is more often used for sinks. Its upper tube is connected to the drainage hole of the pan, and a pipe located on the side serves to drain water into the sewer. In the “bottle” part, between the outlet tube and the lower end, a water seal is created, and debris is collected at the very bottom of the flask, which is removed by unwinding the structure.

Based on the method of controlling the intake and removal of water, siphons for shower cabins fall into three main groups:

  1. Traditional. They operate thanks to a plug, which, if necessary, is manually inserted into the drain hole.
  2. Automatic. The design is equipped with a special handle that allows you to close or open the hole with a drain plug without bending over to do this.
  3. With a Click-Clack device. An improved version of the machine: the position of the plug in it is adjusted using a pedal.

How to choose

A rather discreet device plays a decisive role in comfortable use soul. Even the most attractive cabin fixtures and features are no fun if the water doesn't drain well.

Before you buy a siphon for a shower stall, you should study its technical characteristics to find the best option.

The following factors influence the choice:

  1. Diameter of the drain hole of the pan. According to European standards, this parameter is set at 52, 62 or 90 mm. If the dimensions of the siphon and pan match, maximum tightness of the fit is achieved.
  2. Bandwidth. It is usually indicated in the manual for the shower cabin and in the original data of the siphon. With a diameter of 90 mm, different drain models provide water drainage at a rate of 30 to 50 l/min. Technical requirements for each siphon diameter they regulate a certain thickness of the water layer in the pan. With sizes 52 and 62 mm, the water level should not be higher than 12 cm. The 90 mm one allows this parameter to increase to 15 cm.
  3. Pallet depth. If it is small, then the best option is a siphon for a shower stall with a low tray - a conventional device without an overflow and a plug.
  4. Mounting height of the ladder (supports under the cabin). It depends on the difference in the levels of the drain and the sewer socket and varies from 8 to 20 cm - the siphon must also meet this parameter. The model with a corrugation is universal, allowing installation in cramped conditions and adapting the drain for a shower stall with a low tray to low altitude. Having given flexible pipe the desired bend, it is fixed with a clamp. The disadvantage of this option is the accumulation of dirt in the folds of the corrugated pipe.
  5. Easy to clean - important parameter, allowing you to avoid dismantling the cabin if the drain is clogged. Some designs provide automatic cleaning, others install a mesh trap for small debris and hair.

If there is still a need to clean the pipe, then European models with sizes of 52 and 62 mm provide easy disassembly for access to the sewer.

When purchasing a siphon for a shower tray, take into account the material of the connecting screw. If it is made of stainless steel, the service life of the drain unit will be much longer. A nickel-plated or chrome-plated screw made from ordinary carbon steel quickly corrodes and fails, requiring replacement of the entire device.

It is very easy to distinguish stainless steel: it is not attracted to a magnet.

Arranging a shower stall drain and installing a siphon

Installation of the drainage device is carried out in a certain sequence to ensure the correct functioning of the system and guarantee a permanent flow of water.

  1. Preparatory work. The shower tray is turned upside down and the pins purchased as a set are screwed into it. Nuts are screwed onto the threaded shanks to limit the elements of the load-bearing frame, which are then placed on the studs. A siphon with a hose is inserted into the hole in the pan.
  2. Setting the drain angle. Using a building level, the frame is mounted so that it rises approximately 2 cm above the bottom point of the siphon. It, in turn, should be approximately 5 degrees higher than the sewer tee (relative to the horizontal) to ensure a guaranteed outflow of used water. The power structure is secured with nuts, the hose is connected to the tee and the drain is checked. If the water does not drain quickly enough, the slope is increased using the adjusting screws.
  3. Final installation and connection. A mesh is placed in the drain hole, having previously coated it with silicone sealant for a tighter fit. Place a gasket, screw on the sewer tee and connect it to the outlet, making sure to place a sealant at the junction. The outlet is inserted into the sewer pipe, the connection is sealed with silicone and tightly fixed with a coupling.

A useful device is the overfill prevention system. It is installed in the same way as a drain siphon. You just need to additionally connect the overflow hole with the tee, sealing them along the joint line.
