Acceptance of delivered order

Please ensure that the product delivered matches the order and contains all items listed on the delivery note. If discrepancies, errors or damage are found, they must be noted on the delivery note and Ruukki or the seller must be notified immediately.

Any complaints regarding the delivery of an order must be made within eight days of delivery. Ruukki is not responsible for costs arising from the replacement of goods installed in a manner different from that specified in these instructions.

Unloading and carrying the delivered order

Unload roofing sheets from delivery vehicles to supporting structure, covered with sheets of plywood or other similar material, the size of which is approximately the same size as the roofing sheets.

IN normal conditions Stacks of roofing sheets can be stored, packaged or unpacked, for one month. In case of more long-term storage stacks should be protected from the weather and placed on an inclined surface so that water collecting between them can evaporate or drain.

When carrying individual sheets, make sure they do not rub against each other. It is ideal to carry it by the edge of the sheet. In addition, lifting devices can be used to lift the sheets onto the roof surface.

Dimension

The roofing sheets supplied are the length specified in the order. For ridges, valleys, hipped roofs, ledges, etc., sheets should be cut directly on the site. To cut roofing sheets, a hand-held circular saw suitable for cutting steel sheets, large shears, a nibbler, a power hacksaw, or any other non-heat cutting device can be used.

Note: It is strictly forbidden to use an angle grinder with a cutting wheel to cut sheets (the use of these tools will automatically void the product warranty).

In addition to a hand-held circular saw with a suitable blade and scissors or a nibbler, you will need at least one screwdriver and a measuring tape. Before cutting, cover the sheets to protect them from sharp chips that could damage the surface. Any debris generated by drilling or cutting during installation should be carefully swept away.

Work safety

When handling sheets, always wear work gloves and protective clothing. Avoid contact with sharp cut edges and corners.

Do not walk under raised sheets or piles of sheets. Make sure that the lifting slings are in working order to support the weight of the sheets and that they are properly secured. Do not handle sheets when strong wind. Be extremely careful when moving and working on the roof. Use a safety rope and soft-soled shoes and follow all relevant safety regulations.

Checking roof dimensions

Roofing sheets are mounted at right angles (90 degrees) to the eaves. Before installation, check the evenness of the roof, its transverse dimensions, as well as the straightness of the ridge and eaves. If problems arise, please contact our technical support department.

When lifting individual sheets, remember not to lift long sheets by the edges or allow them to rub against each other. It is best to lift them by the side edges. Individual sheets are lifted onto the roof along supports that are installed from the eaves to the ground.

The sheets are lifted onto the roof for installation on supports. You can help lift the sheets from the ground by pushing them along the edges. Do not walk under the sheets while they are being lifted.

Ruukki company delivers roofing based on the dimensions provided by the customer. These dimensions can be easily found on the construction drawings. You can also draw a simplified model, indicating all the main dimensions on it.

The golden rule is that the length (L) of a roofing sheet is measured from outer surface the furthest cladding panel on the eaves to the middle of the ridge. Installation of the lining should begin horizontally through the trusses, starting from the eaves. The lining should be at least 200 mm wider than the wall at the eaves and edges. Attach the underlayment to the roof trusses using roofing nails and then nail strips of wood, e.g. 32 x 50mm, on top of it in the direction roof trusses(necessary to ensure normal ventilation). Leave the roofing underlay hanging between the roof trusses. Installation of the ridge liner should be carried out in accordance with the installation instructions provided on the detail drawings. If problems arise, contact a design engineer regarding your specific ridge design.

At horizontal joints, the lining sheets should be overlapped (approximately 150 mm). If the length of the lining needs to be increased, this must be done on trusses with a minimum overlap of 100 mm.

With a truss width of 900 or 1200 mm, wooden slats measuring 32 x 100 mm are sufficient. When using profile sheet metal tiles, the lowest wooden slats should be approximately 10mm thicker than a standard batten, eg 2 x (22 x 100mm). To determine the required slatting thickness, contact your designer.

Start installing the roofing sheet slats at the eaves where the sheets are to be installed first. It is important that the curtain rods are adjusted and that the pattern adjustment is taken into account.

Check that the distance between the slats corresponds to: Y - 300 mm, X - 350 mm.

Y = distance from outer edge facing panels to the center of the second rail;
X = distance between the centers of the remaining roof surface slats.

Installation of cladding panels

When using metal tiles, the gable boards should be positioned flush with the profile above the roof battens. Edge caps should be attached to the gable boards.

Check that the level gable boards(Z) corresponded to 80 mm.

Installation of cornice strips

Installation of eaves flashings should be carried out before installation of roofing sheets. Align the flashing with the eave line and attach it to the first batten using galvanized roofing nails or screws. Cornice strips should be attached with an overlap (approximately 10 mm). To prevent the penetration of rainwater or snow, the Armorium RA1BB_AR bottom profile should be installed.

Sheets of metal tiles can be mounted in the direction from left to right or vice versa, regardless of the capillary gap. When laying from left to right, the edge of the previous sheet is raised and the edge of the next sheet is laid under it. In this way, the outermost sheet is supported by the cross pattern of the previous sheet, which prevents it from slipping during installation. This technique is useful when installing on gable roofs or when laying long sheets.

When working on a gable roof, installation of roofing sheets usually begins at the ridge, and when working on hipped roof- from the edge of the roof. The sheets are aligned along the eaves, not along the ridge.

Try to start the installation with long sheets, as this will make it easier to align the sheets along the eaves (at right angles).

Fastening

Attach the metal tile sheets to the battens at the lowest point of the wave profile, just below the side raised edges of the sheet. If the slats are wooden, use 4.8 x 28 mm self-tapping screws.

At overlap joints, attach the sheets to the battens at the lowest point of the wave profile under each of the raised side edges of the sheet.

On the eaves, attach the sheets to the slats at every second wave.

  • Mounting screws (three waves to the side - two side raised edges up);
  • Lap joint mounting screws (under each raised side edge);
  • Mounting screws for curtain rods on every second wave.
    Mounting screws for overhangs under each side raised edge.

The mounting screws on the roof surface should start at the end, missing one row of side edges at the eaves. After the first screw, the next screw is installed through two side edges up and one wave to the side. Continue fastening in this pattern until you reach the ridge. Then return to the first screw, move three waves to the side and continue fastening up to the ridge in the same pattern.

Instructions for laying and fastening sheets take into account such points as the possibility of lifting the edges of the sheet by the wind, thermal deformation, as well as the rigidity and appearance sheet joints.

On the side from which you are starting to install the roof, secure the first sheet in in the right place, leaving the edge of sufficient length to hang over the cornice (approximately 40-45 mm).

Attach the sheet to the cornice with one screw and temporarily to the ridge.

Attach the following sheets of overlap at the highest point of the profile under every other raised side edge of the sheet. Mount two or three sheets in a similar way.

Remove the screw from the ridge and align the sheets with the eaves. To do this, take a measurement to make sure that the length of the free edge is the same on the right and left sides right angle sheet (approximately 40-45 mm).

Secure the aligned sheets to the curtain rods with one screw.

Fasten the first sheets in the desired location according to the fastening instructions.

Continue installing the next sheets. Attach the sheets to the slats and overlapping areas according to the fastening instructions.

Continue installation as described.

Note: The lap screws at the highest point of the profile are only used to align the sheets to the eaves.

Use a soft brush to sweep away all shavings and drill waste from the finished roof surface. Apply touch-up paint if necessary.

When making a longitudinal connection of metal tiles, the sheets should be mounted in accordance with the order shown in the figure. The capillary gap in the overlapped edges determines the installation order.

From the raised side edge of the profile, sheets of metal tiles should be laid with an overlap (at least 150 mm) and secured at the bottom of the wave to the batten under the raised side edge.

When installing the profile, fixation along the transverse overlap is performed at the end along the transverse wave or at the bottom of each longitudinal wave above the transverse wave, without fastening to the sheathing. In this case, 4.8x28 mm metal screws are used. When placing fasteners, be guided by the aesthetic appearance of the roof as a whole.

To ensure that the installation plan of roofing sheets is not disturbed, lay the sheets so that the top and bottom patterns are precisely aligned with each other.

Lay the valley base slabs flush with the roof surface slats. Leave ventilation gaps approximately 20 mm wide between the valley slabs.

Cut the cornice strip to shape and install it in the corner of the valley.

Install the valley cornice strip in the desired location. Secure the sheet in place using galvanized roofing nails. The corner valley sheets at the joints must have an overlap of at least 200 mm. We recommend using sealing paste to seal overlaps.

Trim and shape bottom edge the valley flashing after its alignment with the cornice.

Place marking lines on the valley sheet to indicate the alignment of the sheets along it. Minimum distance between marking lines (indicating the location of roofing sheets) should be 200 mm. The corner valley sheet must extend under the roofing sheets by at least 250 mm.

Install the universal valley sheet filler: remove the protective strip from the 60 x 30 sealing tape and secure the filler approximately 30 mm from the marking lines towards the edge of the valley.

Install full-length roofing sheets. Those sheets that require trimming do not need to be laid at this stage.

Measure the space for the roofing sheet by measuring from the marking line to where the overlap of the roofing sheet ends.

To begin, draw a guide line on the batten in the direction where the next roofing sheet ends.

To cut sheets to a valley shape, two measurements are required: the width at the bottom of the sheet (Y) and the distance from the eaves to the index line where the overlap of the roofing sheet ends (X).

Based on the measurement results, draw a cut line on the roofing sheet.

Trim the leaf.

Install the cut roofing sheets at the top of the valley, making sure as you install that the angle of the valley matches the marking line you made.

Secure the roofing sheets installed in the valley using self-tapping screws.

Continue installation as described.

Use a soft brush to sweep away all shavings and drill waste from the finished roof surface. Apply touch-up paint if necessary.

Install the edge trims in an upward direction away from the eaves. If necessary, trim the free length at the ridge. Attach the pads to facing panels using self-tapping screws, placing them at a distance of approximately 1000 mm from each other and at a distance of approximately 300-800 mm from the top to the roofing sheets. The edge trims must be installed with an overlap (at least 100 mm).

Note: The edge trim must cover the first pattern profile of the roofing sheet.

Place the ventilated ridge infill onto the sheets in the ridge before attaching the roof flashing to the roof. Remove the protective strip from the adhesive tapes and lay the ventilated ridge filler on the sheets, following the shape of the waves.

Attach the ridge strip to the roofing sheets after every third wave using self-tapping screws. The overlap of the ridge strip must be at least 100 mm.

Annual Maintenance

In order to ensure optimal condition and long service life of the roof, it is necessary to regularly check its condition. Under normal conditions, cleaning of the roof surface occurs during heavy rains, and all remaining fallen leaves, branches, etc., not washed away by the rain, should be cleaned off annually. Valleys and rainwater collection systems also require annual cleaning.

Cleaning

Dirt and stains can be washed off with a soft brush and water. Pressure washers (up to 50 bar) can also be used. More stubborn dirt can be removed using detergents designed for cleaning painted surfaces. To ensure the suitability of the detergent, read the instructions for use or contact the manufacturer. Stains that cannot be removed with regular detergent can be wiped off with a cloth soaked in solvent. The final wash of the paint coating should be carried out from top to bottom to completely remove detergent. Complete the cleaning by flushing the rainwater system with water.

Snow removal

Typically, snow does not accumulate on a painted roof, or its amount does not exceed the maximum load rating of the roof structure. However, if it is necessary to remove snow, we recommend leaving a layer of snow on the roof (approx. 100 mm) to protect the covering during cleaning.

Delivery, unloading and storage

The length of the vehicle body must be no less than the length of the metal tile sheets. Sheets must be transported on a pallet, securely fastened. Unloading must be carried out by people (2 people per 2 m.p.) or by a crane with soft slings. Store the tiles in a dry place, in a bundle, out of direct sunlight.

Laying the sheathing

If wood is used for the sheathing, first dry it and coat it with an antiseptic compound. Place the first batten below, from it to the center of the second there should be 300 mm, from the center of the second to the center of the third (and between the others too) 350 mm. In areas of skates, windows, snow guards, etc. there must be a double continuous sheathing.

Waterproofing

The film is laid along the rafters from the eaves to the ridge, with an overlap of 150 mm. There should be a gap of 30-50 mm between the insulation and the film. The membrane can be placed without a gap on the insulation.

Roof cornice

It is necessary to secure it to the roof eaves drain hooks to then cover with tiles. Put cornice strip and secure it with roofing screws. Make an issue waterproofing film. Secure the film with double-sided tape.

Valley device
