Types of linoleum

Tarkett linoleum is available on various bases:

  • foamed;
  • duplicated (foam + polyester);
  • compact;
  • calendered.

However, in order to choose the right household linoleum, you must first know in which room you plan to install it, the possible loads and operating conditions. For example, in rooms where temperature changes are possible, coatings on a duplicated basis are best suited, in rooms with high loads (kitchens/corridors) compact or calendered ones, and in rooms with certain requirements for noise and sound insulation - foam ones.

You also need to pay attention to such an important component of linoleum as the transparency or working layer. It not only protects the pattern from wear, but is also responsible for the wear resistance of the product and the thicker it is, the longer the floor covering will last.

According to the global classification, household and commercial floor coverings are distinguished. There is also a classification of types of premises from 21 to 43, where the first number is the type of premises (2 - residential, 3 - public, 4 - industrial), and the second is the expected load (1 - low, 2 - medium, 3 - high).

Semi-commercial linoleum is the marketing name for household PVC coating, which has relatively high wear resistance (protective layer/transparency from 0.35 to 0.6 mm) and can be laid in any household premises with a high degree of load, for example, in the kitchen and/or in the corridor. Despite the fact that often such collections partially correspond to the parameters required when laying in public spaces, it is always important to consider the totality of all characteristics. Semi-commercial products may not meet the requirements for fire safety in accordance with Federal Law -123, or have insufficient density, resistance to contamination and increased loads for successful use in public premises. Manufacturers often abuse this concept, because... There are no clear and official criteria for classifying collections as semi-commercial.

Household linoleum comes in 3 application classes:

  • 21 application class - low load on flooring in residential premises;
  • Application class 22 - average load on flooring in residential premises;
  • Application class 23 - high load on flooring in residential premises;

Pay attention to the collections when choosing a coating.

For your convenience, Tarkett has developed special 5 star table, she will help you choose a coating taking into account the requirements of the room. In addition, the weight of linoleum also plays an important role; the heavier it is, the more durable and wear-resistant material you purchase.

Design possibilities of linoleum

Modern linoleum comes in a variety of design types; from classic wood and palace parquet, bright abstraction, colors and shades of designs can emphasize or, on the contrary, soften the accents in the interior.

Innovative Technologies Tarkett " Living structure", Unrepeatable design, 3D design.

Floor plinths are mainly used to hide the gap between the wall and the floor, as well as to protect walls during wet or regular cleaning. Often it can be used as an independent decorative element. Floor skirting boards come in wood, plastic, aluminum and MDF.

Wooden floor skirting boards are veneered and solid. Veneered plinths are not uniform - the base is made of solid pine or spruce, and a natural layer of veneer is glued on top valuable species trees. Massive skirting boards are made from homogeneous solid wood- they are the most expensive. The main advantages of wooden plinth include its status and environmental safety. The main disadvantages of wooden plinths are its price, difficulty in installation and hygroscopicity, i.e. exposure to moisture. We advise you to look at the Italian veneered plinth La San Marco Profili and the massive plinth Magestic Floor.

Plastic skirting boards are made from various types PVC, depending on the requirements for the product. It is used to frame almost all types of floor coverings. Plastic plinth is characterized by high strength, durability, ease of installation, and is also not susceptible to moisture. It is also significantly cheaper than its wooden counterparts.

Aluminum skirting boards are mainly installed in offices, medical and shopping centers. This plinth is characterized by high wear resistance, resistance to moisture and mechanical damage. Aluminum skirting boards are also installed in residential premises - most often in interiors designed in the High-Tech or Art Nouveau style. In our store you can buy Austrian aluminum skirting boards FN Neuhofer Holz, the base of which is MDF, and front side made of aluminum.

Laminated MDF skirting boards, as the name suggests, are made from fibreboard medium density and then laminated. This skirting board is ideal for laminate flooring or linoleum. Laminated plinth has good antistatic properties and is easy to care for, as it is resistant to stains. The disadvantage of MDF plinths is their fairly high fragility and instability to mechanical stress. From us you can buy Austrian MDF skirting boards FN Neuhofer Holz. The range of FN skirting boards is huge: high white skirting boards for painting, with digital printing, leather-coated, laminated skirting boards, as well as veneered and aluminum-coated.

Have you decided to renovate your home or are you renovating only the floors? You need to choose and buy floor plinth. This is an important element of apartment design. The floor plinth must be in harmony with the interior. When you start choosing skirting boards, consider the price, material and what function they will perform in your room: protective or decorative.

Floor plinth material.

It is advisable to purchase floor plinth from quality wood. Least correct option- made of pine. They are inexpensive, but pine wood is soft and if someone accidentally touches this baseboard, it will leave dents or scratches.

Oak skirting boards look gorgeous, but they are very expensive and, due to the fact that oak wood is very hard, it will be difficult to cut such skirting boards. Beech has similar properties. Ash is the most suitable material. It looks beautiful, the price is reasonable, and sawing is much easier.

The veneered plinth has a massive base. The top is finished with good wood. Due to the fact that it is additionally varnished, its cost is reduced, since the external beauty is not preserved. Compared to natural wood, veneered ones are purchased more often. Of course, they are highly durable, elegant in design, easy to install and environmentally friendly. But skirting boards are susceptible to this plan chemicals, flammability and moisture. When choosing this plinth, you must take into account that it is best combined with laminate, plank flooring and parquet. In addition to wooden skirting boards, plastic, aluminum and steel ones are also available. If you need a plinth for a bedroom or living room, then you need to take wooden or PVC skirting boards. They will be an excellent decor and give stylish look. Aluminum or plastic skirting boards can be purchased for the kitchen. There they will perform a protective function.

Aluminum and steel are characterized by mechanical strength, are very moisture resistant, and wires are also laid behind them. Such skirting boards look non-standard, beautiful, stylish and modern. They are attached to the wall using structures. Suitable for almost all surfaces: carpet, wood, laminate, linoleum and others. They also have a disadvantage: they are difficult to process.

Plastic skirting boards have the same properties as aluminum ones; in addition, they are light in weight and very flexible. They do not need to be tinted, do not burn, are UV resistant, durable and inexpensive.

When choosing skirting boards, it is important to pay attention to their width. They shouldn't be too narrow. Since the surfaces of our houses are not perfectly flat, wide baseboards can hide minor imperfections and irregularities. Also pay attention to the corner located on the inside of the baseboard; it is important that it is roomy. If there are television, telephone or computer cables in your apartment, they can be hidden under the baseboard.

Corners in rooms (internal and external) present slight difficulties when installing skirting boards. External ones usually refer to corridors and hallways. At times it is very difficult to make such corners accurately. This happens due to the fact that most skirting boards are profiled; it is difficult to cut them at an angle of 45° so that all profile configurations match.

However, to make the corners look nice and neat, there are a variety of parts on sale that are designed for joining. Or you can mask inconsistencies in corners using self-adhesive film, which must be perfectly matched to the color of the baseboard.

Choosing the color of the floor plinth.

As a rule, skirting boards should be in perfect harmony with the color of the floor. The exception is the interior with a minimalist style. You can make a contrast in it, light doors and the walls, and the trim to these doors and the baseboards are dark. If you decide to buy skirting boards made of high-quality wood, then they can be varnished on top. This is necessary so that the real texture of the wood stands out. There is no need to cover these skirting boards with self-adhesive tape.

Often, skirting boards are made in a dark brown color, and they perfectly highlight the geometry of the room and very clearly delimit the walls from the floor. If your room is made in light, pleasant colors, then you need to buy white or light beige skirting boards. Remember that the baseboards must match the room and fit into the interior.

Skirting for parquet floors

When purchasing parquet, it is advisable to immediately stock up on the necessary skirting boards and other moldings. We tell you why they are needed, how to choose them and how to install them correctly.

Why is it needed?

Give final view semi. The plinth gives the parquet floor a finished look, like a baguette gives an artistic canvas. And although it has a lot of practical functions, the aesthetic significance of the plinth is primary, because it appeared long before electrical wires.

Hide wiring. To prevent wires from running along the walls or ceiling, you can hide them by laying them on the back side of the baseboard. A wooden plinth can accommodate up to three wires, and a plastic plinth can accommodate up to eight.

Close expansion gaps. When installing parquet between the wall and the floor, be sure to leave 10-15 mm gaps so that the board can expand freely during periods high humidity. These gaps look unsightly and can become clogged with dirt, so they are covered with moldings around the entire perimeter of the room.

Protect the walls. The baseboard prevents the furniture and walls from being too close together, thus protecting the wallpaper and plaster from being damaged by the sharp ends of the furniture. When mopping the floor, the baseboard also protects the wall from getting wet, which is why some call it “mop boards.”

How to choose

For parquet flooring, it is better to choose a plinth made of wood or MDF. And although plastic skirting board has a number of advantages over wood; it does not look as noble as parquet, and reduces the cost of the overall appearance of the floor.

Some parquet manufacturers produce various moldings, matching the design to their products. Coswick produces not only skirting boards in three different profiles, but also steps and thresholds to match parquet, solid and engineering board. Veneered plinths are offered by Hajnowka, Goodwin, Barlinek, Tarkett, Majestic flo, Parketoff and other manufacturers.

There are skirting boards different sizes and shapes: smooth and curly, high and low, different thicknesses and profile. The choice depends on your interior design and the characteristics of the room. Indoors with high ceilings and doorways will look better with higher skirting boards, for standard apartments- medium or low.

Wooden skirting boards and MDF skirting boards come in several types:
Made from solid wood, varnished- the most natural and beautiful. Represent wooden plank 15-20 mm thick from the same wood as parquet. VMGK Floor has skirting boards made of merbau, ipe, lapacho, cumaru, American walnut, rosewood and teak.

Veneered - baseboards made of solid wood or MDF, covered with a thin veneer of oak, ash and others. This plinth looks natural, and the veneer pattern repeats the texture of the wood on your parquet. This is the most common option for parquet flooring, affordable: from 250 rubles per meter.

Laminated - MDF plinth with lamination. Instead of veneer, the decorative function is performed by paper with a tree pattern printed on it. There are also white baseboards without lamination - ready for painting.

Enameled - made of solid wood, coated with white enamel in the factory. This skirting board is chosen in combination with white doors or white walls, as well as for contrast with a dark parquet floor.

Tall white baseboards look good in a room with high ceilings and white decor.

How to install

The plinth is always attached only to the wall, and not to the parquet. Veneered plinths made of solid wood and MDF are installed on special clips. First, prepare the plinth around the entire perimeter of the room: trim it to desired length, cut off the ribs at the joints, make cuts at 45 degrees in the places where the baseboard meets the door casing.

Then clips are attached to the wall with screws and dowels every 50 cm. After this, the prepared parts of the plinth are “snapped” onto the clips. If necessary, the baseboard can be removed and replaced using this installation method.

Veneered plinth and clip for fastening it

The plinth is also installed with mounting adhesive and finishing nails. In this case it is important:
- apply glue to the wall, not wallpaper. The wallpaper will have to be removed exactly to the height of the baseboard.

Make sure that the glue does not protrude beyond the baseboard or stain it or the wall. At the same time, apply a sufficient amount of glue.

After installation, seal the holes from finishing nails wood putty or seal them with special parquet chalk.

You can install baseboards using glue if the walls are smooth and there are no gaps between the molding and the wall. Otherwise, the method with clips is more suitable.

It is recommended to fasten massive skirting boards with dowels and self-tapping screws, since during seasonal expansion natural forces arise in the wood, which lead to the skirting board coming off over time or falling off the clips. The attachment points are covered with chalk or hidden with a special insert.

Main

For a parquet floor, choose a veneered or solid baseboard, preferably from the same manufacturer.

Focus on the height of the walls and doorways. For tall ones you need a higher baseboard, for short ones - medium or small.

Before installation, cut the baseboard and make notches at the joints and ends.

Do not glue a massive baseboard - it will come off during seasonal changes in humidity.
