Preparing the trimmer and preparing the chainsaw for winter storage:

  1. Mow/finish everything that needs to be mowed/finished (at the same time, use the fuel so that it is not left for winter storage in the trimmer or for storage in the chainsaw).
  2. Remove the tank cap, turn the trimmer (chainsaw) over and drain all the fuel from the tank into a container. technical use(canister or bottle with a funnel for washing engine parts during maintenance). This is the main thing in preparing the trimmer and preparing the chainsaw for winter storage.
    Start the trimmer/chainsaw and drain the remaining fuel from the carburetor until it stalls (if you leave fuel in the system, after some time the fuel will stratify and oxides and tar deposits will form in the carburetor channels, which will interfere with the normal operation of the engine after winter storage).
  3. Be sure to wash everything on the handlebars, everything on the rod and both trimmer protections with warm water and a brush, and do full maintenance of the trimmer - add grease to the gearbox, remove the blade, clean the drive cartridge inside, inspect everything on the trimmer for cracks, bends, abrasions, distortions, breaks (you need to take care of your chainsaw in the same way). Then, for storing the trimmer and storing the chainsaw, do this. air filter, partial disassembly of the engine, washing and blowing it, lubricating moving parts, inspect the condition of the clutch and fine-tune the trimmer carburetor.
  4. Preparing the trimmer and preparing the chainsaw for winter storage - unscrew the spark plug, move the piston to top dead center (starter), pour 20 grams into the spark plug hole. motor oil and slowly turn the crankshaft several times with the starter to lubricate the cylinder-piston group. Reinstall the spark plug (no need to tighten it).
    Caring for the trimmer and caring for the chainsaw during winter storage - once a month it is advisable to remove the spark plug and make several revolutions of the crankshaft to renew the lubrication in the cylinder.
  5. Wrap the trimmer and chainsaw engine in a rag or bag so that in winter, when temperature changes when condensation forms, moisture does not get inside the engine of the trimmer.
  6. It is better to store the trimmer and chainsaw in winter in a suspended state (to save space), preferably in a warm and dry room or in a room with a constant temperature.
  7. Take out your accounting notebook as part of preparing the trimmer and preparing the chainsaw for winter storage, analyze and add up your income and expenses for the season, and draw conclusions for the next season (maybe you should increase the cost of your services or buy some specialized tool).

How to prepare your trimmer for spring use

You've taken good care of your lawn - aerated, seeded, fertilized... Now you're waiting. You look forward to warm days and blue skies, and you know for sure that the grass will soon turn green. You've checked the list of things to do for your lawn. Is your trimmer ready? Do you know how to prepare your trimmer? Is your tool in the shed tuned up and ready for the new mowing season? Let's look at the list of things a regular trimmer needs to do to ensure it's ready to do its job (mow) well.

The trimmer motor will work better and will better prepared to mowing, if you add a fuel stabilizer (additive) to fuel mixture. Before long-term storage, be sure to drain all fuel. Then start the engine and run it until it stalls so that there is no fuel left in the fuel system. When it comes time to refuel for the new season, it is very important to use a properly prepared mixture of oil and gasoline. This will ensure proper performance of the 2-stroke trimmer engine. Pre-mixed fuel eliminates the hassle and error of mixing fuel just before mowing. You need to mix enough fuel to use it within a month, no longer, since when stored for more than 1 month, the oil precipitates and the fuel ages.

Before the start of the season, it is necessary to replace the trimmer spark plug, fuel filter, and clean air filter and adjust the carburetor. This will reduce fuel consumption and increase power. For a trimmer with a 4-stroke engine, you need to check the engine oil level and freshness, and also replace the oil filter.

Fishing line, when stored for a long time (for example, after winter storage), can become dry and brittle. To prevent this and increase the life of your fishing line, simply store it in an airtight bag with a small amount of water. And before you start using it (before loading the fishing line into the trimmer head), it is advisable to soak the fishing line in water for several days. Then it (the fishing line) will become more elastic and durable.

A trimmer with attachments provides not only the convenience of performing all necessary work around the yard, but also saves a lot of money, since you don’t have to buy a separate machine for each type of work - just use a specific trimmer attachment. This could be garden shears for trimming hedges, a cultivator for digging up a flower bed, a pole-cutter for pruning trees, a blower for sweeping leaves, etc.

Briefly about preparing the trimmer and chainsaw for the summer season

Spring! It's time to prepare the trimmer for work and prepare the chainsaw for work after winter storage. After you have taken your tool out of the place where the trimmer was stored and the chainsaw was stored, you need to make sure that the gas tool is ready for the start of the season. These few tips will cover trimmer care and chainsaw care to help get your chainsaw or trimmer ready to start after winter storage:

  • Check the condition of the spark plug, replace if necessary.
  • Check the air and fuel filters, clean or replace if necessary.
  • Check your trimmer/chainsaw and, if there are any problems, fix them.
  • Tighten the fasteners (check that all fasteners are tight). Do routine trimmer maintenance and chainsaw maintenance.
  • It is better to immediately (now) sharpen the chainsaw chain, the brush cutter blade, or replace the trimmer line.
  • Add lubricant to the trimmer/chainsaw gearbox, lubricate the cables and friction points of the moving parts.
  • Mix the fuel, for this use fresh gasoline (stored no more than 2 months) and fresh 2-stroke oil.
  • Once trimmer preparation and chainsaw preparation are complete, start and be sure to let the trimmer/chainsaw warm up for a few minutes before starting work.

Note: for a complete Maintenance and repairs after winter storage of a trimmer or after winter storage of a chainsaw - see the instructions for your gas-powered tool.

Warnings:

The weather is getting warmer and mowing/sawing season is just around the corner. We remind you that clients, children, spectators, helpers, animals, etc. For safety reasons, they must be at least 15 m away from a working trimmer or chainsaw! (care of the trimmer and maintenance of the chainsaw must be carried out in full).

Read the warnings from the manufacturer of your trimmer, which states that children (and adults) can be injured by crushed stone, glass, debris, etc. flying out from under the blade, as well as by the brush cutter suddenly turning around due to recoil when colliding with a stationary obstacle.

How to properly hang a trimmer

An example of attaching a trimmer to a store window: a perforated stand (a wall with holes) into which special wire brackets are inserted, onto which trimmers/mowers are hung.

Hand tools

WITH hand tools It’s simple: clean pitchforks, rakes, shovels, hoes from adhering earth and plant debris. If the blades become dull, sharpen them with a file or a whetstone, wipe the metal parts dry, treat them with machine oil - and your hand tools ready for storage. It is best to keep it on special racks or; shelves in a barn or other enclosed space.

Lawnmower

At the end of the season, clear the working part of the lawn mower from soil and grass. Adhering residues can lead to corrosion metal parts. But under no circumstances rinse the metal parts; if it gets into the mechanism under a strong stream of water, it can render it unusable. Shake out and thoroughly clean the grass catcher, lubricate all components and the lawn mower blade with machine oil.

For models with a gasoline engine, after completing all work, drain the oil and gasoline, clean the spark plugs, and then refill with fresh engine oil. If the lawnmower runs on batteries, they must be recharged, and in an electric one, check all contacts and the connecting cable.

Cultivator

The cultivator also needs winter conservation. First of all, clean all parts and components from soil and oil stains.

It is best to clean dried soil from the cutters and gearbox with a wooden stick, since rust may form in the scratch areas, or under running water (1).

After this, wipe them with a dry cloth. Be sure to clean the engine cooling fins and muffler. Plastic parts, protective covers and control handles can be wiped with a damp sponge (2).

Use a cloth moistened with machine oil to wipe the cutters on the cultivator and the outside of the gearbox. Oil will create protective film, protecting metal from rust. If, in addition to cutters, you have additional attachments, lubricate their metal parts with oil, and then place them in wooden box, transferring with thick wrapping paper.

Remove the shift cable, otherwise it may stretch over the winter.

Having finished cleaning, you can begin preserving the engine. Wash the air foam filter in warm water with detergent. Then dry it and lightly soak it in machine oil. For models with a paper filter, replace it (3). Drain from fuel tank the remaining gasoline there. After this, remove the spark plug and pour approximately 15 ml of oil into the cylinder (4). Clean the spark plug (preferably with a wooden stick, to avoid damaging the insulator), rinse it in gasoline, dry it and put it back, first checking the valve clearance. Then turn the engine shaft with the starter so that the oil poured into the cylinder is evenly distributed over its walls. If your cultivator model has a main fuel filter, clean it too.

Now you can drain the oil from the engine crankcase and fill in new oil (5). This completes the preservation of the cultivator for the winter. It should be stored in a dry, ventilated area, away from heating devices.

Motokosa

As is the case with the other gardening equipment, clean all parts and components from dirt, lubricate them with machine oil. Wipe the trimmer head (it must be removed) with a damp cloth, metal knife grease with oil, pack everything in thick paper. It is better to store all spare parts and components in one place so that they can be easily found in the spring. In the angular gearbox gear transmission add lubricant. Clean the angular gear seat, lubricate it and put it on top plastic bag to protect the unit from dust during storage.

To prevent the engine from failing in the new season, clean it of dirt and dust, drain the gasoline from the fuel tank and start the engine so that all the fuel in the carburetor is exhausted. This is very important for brush cutters, since the gasoline mixture is prepared with the addition of oil, and during storage it can be divided into fractions, which will negatively affect the further work mechanism. After this, remove the spark plug, pour 5-10 ml of oil into the engine, crank the crankshaft several times using the starter, rinse and wipe the spark plug and put it back in place.

Before storing the brush cutter, make sure that plastic hose, going from the control handle to the engine, was not pinched, since it contains wires and due to pinching they can be damaged. It is best to store the brush cutter in a dry place, away from heat sources.

Significant seasonal changes in temperature and humidity determine one of the main tasks for owners of any diesel or carburetor household equipment, including chainsaws. It consists in providing normal conditions for storing tools and equipment equipped with internal combustion engines, or for using it for its intended purpose during the cold season. The procedure for setting up and removing from preservation is regulated by the manufacturer and is almost always described in detail in the operating instructions. However, it is better to know in advance about some features of storing and operating a chainsaw in winter. This will ensure high efficiency work and will help extend the life of the tool.

What is useful for every chainsaw owner to know?

Modern chainsaws are equipped with a single-cylinder two-stroke engine carburetor type.

4-stroke and diesel units Chainsaws are not used in the design due to their large weight - it would be very physically difficult to operate such a tool manually.

The operating principle of a mono-cylinder 2-stroke chainsaw engine:

  • during the compression stroke, the fuel mixture prepared in the carburetor enters the crankcase;
  • in the lowest position, the exhaust channels of the cylinder open - exhaust gases and part of the air-fuel mixture exit through them;
  • the mixture from the crankcase under the influence of piston pressure is fed into the cylinder in which it burns;
  • the resulting excess pressure moves the piston in initial position, which drives the main motor shaft.

2-stroke engines are not very economical. Therefore, in order to reduce fuel consumption and increase engine efficiency, many manufacturers use additional ventilation: the intake valve opens to supply fuel to the cylinder after exhaust gases have been released.

The difficulty of operating a chainsaw in winter lies in the reaction to low temperatures the materials from which its components and components are made, and working fluids - fuel mixture and lubricant, as well as the formation of condensation on the components and mechanisms of the tool due to temperature changes. If your model is not designed for use with severe frosts, i.e. It does not have structural insulation and an air heating system; it can only be used indoors. And even then only with proper maintenance and preparation of the engine and the proper condition of the material - it must have a normal temperature and humidity for cutting.

Operating chainsaws in the cold season: main points

IN household There is always a task for a chainsaw, so sending it on a “winter vacation” is not always rational. In such cases, the preservation of the instrument is not carried out in full, i.e. without complete disassembly.

Cold makes it difficult to start gasoline engines: fuel evaporates poorly, so if you open the air damper immediately after the first strokes, the chainsaw will either not start at all or stall immediately. As a result, it will have to be warmed up and started on choke, as a result of which there is a risk of filling the spark plug with gasoline. All this takes too much time and leads to clogging and reduced service life of individual tool components.

If you plan to operate a chainsaw during the winter season, store it, and especially the fuel mixture, in a well-ventilated, dry and warm place. as a last resort unheated room, protected from external atmospheric influences.

Before starting work, you should make sure that the fuel is at a temperature sufficient to ignite and that the oil in the tool’s lubrication system is of normal viscosity. Some models of chainsaws are equipped with a system for supplying hot air to the carburetor from the cylinder cooling fins, which reduces the risk of freezing of the air filter and prevents the formation of condensation on the carburetor itself.

You need to start the saw in the cold with the throttle valve closed, after checking the quality of the lubrication and the tension of the chain. After completing the work, you cannot immediately bring the tool into the room. This is guaranteed to lead to condensation, which is why you will have to remove it, disassemble it and clean it.

To prevent the oil from thickening in the cold, it needs to be diluted a little with gasoline. This will ensure uniform lubrication and stable chain tension.

Conservation

Most owners of chainsaws prefer not to work with gas-powered tools in winter, but put them in storage without waiting for extreme cold.

To prepare a chainsaw for winter storage you need to:

Before packaging, the saw bar and chain should be coated with a protective lubricant and stored in cloth or paper soaked in oil. The tool and its main components must be protected from exposure to direct sun rays which may cause some parts to break.

Reactivation of chainsaws: main points

With the onset of spring, there is much more work in the household than in the winter season. This means that the time has come for the chainsaw - it needs to be re-opened and prepared to start working. The procedure will be as follows:

During long-term storage, the fuel mixture loses its quality, so it should not be used. This can lead to various troubles, from loss of engine power to contamination of the carburetor channels and fuel supply system.

Sharpening a saw chain in the photo

As is the case with the commissioning of new chainsaws, it is important to correctly adjust the saw set of a removed tool. The chain should not bite the material or move jerkily. If it is overtightened, turning will be difficult; if it is loose, significant vibrations and beating will occur when cutting. You can determine the degree of tension by grasping the chain by a tooth near the end of the bar and pulling it back. At correct adjustment about a third of the shank will remain in the groove of the guide bar, and the chain itself will move freely.

Some chainsaw models are equipped with an automatic chain tension adjustment system. However, even in this case, the quality of installation of the chain set must always be checked, as they say, visually and manually.

Only the right attitude towards the instrument can ensure it normal operation and long service life. Don’t forget to put your chainsaw into winter storage and do everything necessary actions to put it into operation with the onset of spring - and it will serve you for as long as possible, without causing any trouble.

How to store garden equipment in winter (infographic)

Before putting gardening equipment into winter storage, it is necessary to carefully prepare it - preserve it. The more complex the device, the more attention it will require. We have compiled for you best method conservation work.

At the end of the season, the “languid” gardening equipment is sent off for storage until the following spring. Often they simply drive it into a shed or lock it in the house, wiping it a little with a rag. If you have not prepared the equipment for wintering, it may not start in the spring, because the usual change in temperature and humidity conditions is a severe test for devices. This mainly applies to gas-powered tools; they need to be handled with particular care. And although the instruction manual usually provides comprehensive advice, let us recall the main rules for storing garden equipment.

General rules for equipment conservation

Before storing any tool, regardless of its type and purpose, it is necessary to wash, dry and inspect the parts for wear and replacement. There is nothing worse than water getting into moving or vulnerable parts and mechanisms. Freezing in an unheated room, it turns into ice and damages system elements. From judgments fire safety It is also better to drain the gasoline from the gas tank. But there are other tips regarding oil - the equipment should not be left “dry”, therefore the oil is not removed for the winter, but changed.

When storing, fold equipment as indicated in the instruction manual.

Cutting parts (such as lawn mower blades) should be sharpened, and hinge joints should be cleaned of dust and dirt and lubricated. Check the condition of the fastening parts and power cord of the power tool, change them as necessary, without leaving them until spring. Next, we will look at each type of equipment and the requirements for its conservation in more detail.

This is, perhaps, one of the few tools for which there is work even in the cool season. True, the operating temperature range of a chainsaw is usually small due to the fact that it contains non-frost-resistant parts, gasoline and oil. If the manufacturer guarantees the operation of the tool at a temperature of -10°C, this is a very good indicator, and such a saw can be used practically all year round. If you leave country cottage area forever, then take care of appropriate conservation.

The “heart” of any chainsaw is a single-cylinder, two-stroke, carburetor-type engine. To others fundamental element is the chain. It is specifically dedicated to the care of these 2 elements. most of conservation tips:

  • First, drain any remaining fuel from the tank, carburetor, and chain oil. To completely exhaust the fuel, you can run the chainsaw idle and wait until the gas runs out. Then wipe the gas tank dry so that it does not begin to rust. This is an option for long-term preservation, for at least 3 months. But there is also a second option for those who cut down trees or carry out other work in winter. In this case, it is recommended to fill the tank to the brim with high-quality gasoline and leave it for storage in this condition. If you urgently need to cut down a tree, great, you have quite a lot at hand. ready-made equipment. But remember, gasoline, which after 2-3 frosty winter weeks will begin to resemble jelly in its mixture, can damage even a high-quality engine;
  • Using a wire probe or a homemade nozzle, remove the filter tips from the fuel and oil tanks. Wash them and put them back after drying or, if necessary, replace them with new ones. Do the same with the air filter;
  • remove the saw chain and bar and clean them of sawdust, wood dust and dirt;
  • Remove the clutch cover, thoroughly wash it under running warm water and let it dry. Lubricate the worm gear and side chain tension screw;
  • Remove the spark plug and clean it of carbon deposits and fuel residues. Pour 5-7 ml of engine oil into the spark plug hole and turn the engine crankshaft 3-4 turns so that the oil is distributed throughout the connecting rod mechanisms and cylinder-piston group. Leave the piston at the top point (raised). After this, install the spark plug in place, but do not put on the ignition terminal;
  • coat the saw bar and chain with a protective lubricant and store wrapped in a piece of paper or cloth soaked in oil;
  • Pack the tool and hide the removed parts in a dry, dark and dust-free place.

How to store a chainsaw in winter (preservation)

1. Drain the fuel from the gas tank 2. Start the scythe and use up the remaining gasoline in the hoses AT IDLE.

About once a month, rotate the crankshaft to renew the lubricant on the connecting rods and in the cylinders with pistons.

If you have power saw, then all you need for preservation is to lubricate the saw bar and chain with a protective lubricant.

How to store a lawn mower in winter

This unit is sent to a “well-deserved rest” in the fall, and is removed towards the end of spring. Due to such a long “downtime”, the requirements for the conservation of lawn mowers are very high.

Gasoline lawn mower

The main elements of a gas lawn mower are the engine and the cutting parts. These are the ones you should pay maximum attention to:

  • The first condition for proper storage is a room with a humidity of no more than 70%, as well as the absence sharp changes temperatures that increase humidity;
  • if you used the mower a lot, grass particles, and with them moisture, could get onto the internal parts of the device. Therefore, be sure to wash, clean and dry knives and other parts within your reach. Remove any remaining grass from the body, exhaust pipe, engine cooling radiators, etc.;
  • Opinions are divided regarding fuel. Some summer residents drain the remains of it and wipe the gas tank dry so that condensation does not form over the winter. The other half, on the contrary, fills the tank to the brim and leaves it in this form for the winter. However, in this case, low-quality gasoline may leave sediment, which will make it difficult to start the engine in the spring. Removing remaining liquid from the carburetor is still easier than cleaning it from plaque and sediment, so we recommend the first option;
  • inspect cutting knife– whether it requires repair and sharpening. In any case, remove and sharpen it for the winter. If necessary, consult a specialist;
  • the oil level must comply with the recommendations in the operating instructions (for 4-stroke engines);
  • Store the lawnmower with its wheels off the floor, either suspended or on stands.

Electric lawn mower

Read:

Before cleaning the unit for the winter, check the integrity of all contacts and inspect them for oxidation and rust. Otherwise, the electric motor does not require any special conservation measures. Recharge the battery for the winter, clean the body, deck and blades of grass and sharpen them if necessary.

How to store your trimmer in winter

You need to be able to not only handle the trimmer correctly, but also store it correctly. Often gas or electric scythes are simply thrown into the barn, where they lie until spring. Such negligence can be costly.

Gasoline trimmer

Petrol trimmers are powerful and compact devices designed for cutting grass. Proper storage– one of the components of their long and uninterrupted operation.

  • Find appropriate storage space. It should be dry room, with normal humidity, isolated from sources of bright light and open fire. Do not let the trimmer freeze; it is better to cover it with moisture absorbers (for example, an old blanket);
  • drain the entire fuel mixture (gasoline and oil) and let the device idle until it stalls;
  • Remove any remaining grass from between the blades and stationary parts of the trimmer and from the blades. Take the time and carefully inspect the body for the presence of organic matter;
  • Remove and inspect the spark plug. The normal color of the electrodes is reddish; if they are covered with carbon deposits, they should be cleaned or replaced;
  • Remove the metal cutting blade and clean it of any dirt. Check the integrity of the knife - if cracks or chips appear on it, replace this part. Store the blade, dry and free of dirt, separately;
  • If a trimmer cord (line) is installed on the trimmer, remove it and place it in the fresh water. This way it will retain its original flexibility, withstand tension and last longer;
  • Store the brush cutter in a suspended position. If the steering wheel is in the way, turn it the other way or unscrew it.

U electric trimmer Before winter storage, check the integrity of the wires, insulation and contacts. Avoid sudden temperature fluctuations and do not leave the trimmer in the cold. The resulting condensation can damage contacts and other elements of the device.

How to store a cultivator and walk-behind tractor in winter

Such “serious” agricultural machines as cultivators and walk-behind tractors require appropriate care. The abundance of parts and complex design does not always allow you to completely clean the cultivator, and especially the walk-behind tractor, from dirt, but it is still worth trying.

  • The first stage is engine preservation. Drain the gasoline and use up any remaining fuel until the engine stops. Remove the oil and replace it with new one while the engine is still warm;
  • Renew the paper air filter or wash the foam filter with warm water and detergent. When it dries, soak it in machine oil. Clean the fuel filter;
  • Remove the spark plug, clean it, soak it in gasoline and dry it. Pour 15 ml of oil into the cylinder and slowly rotate the shaft so that it is distributed over all parts. Replace the spark plug;
  • During the inspection, clean all components, parts, elements, engine fins and muffler from dirt, soil and oil stains. When removing dirt from the gearbox, cutter and other parts, do not use iron scrapers, otherwise you will damage protective layer and cause rust. It is better to take a wooden stick or spatula and rinse the parts under running water. After " water procedures» wipe everything with a napkin and dry;
  • Use a rag soaked in machine oil to treat the cutters and the outer surface of the gearbox. Also cover additional attachments and other metal parts with a protective oil film, wrap them in wrapping paper and place them in a wooden or plastic box.

During the summer, your lawn mower won a large number of herbs, in gratitude for this, create comfortable storage for it in winter period, so that in next year she didn't cause any trouble.

Clean.

When preparing for storage, thoroughly clean the instrument and open and clean the air filter.

Drain the fuel

Do not store the brush cutter while it is filled with fuel. To avoid clogging the fuel system, drain the fuel from the tank and then start the scythe. Leave the braid on idle speed until the engine stops completely. The fuel system is now ready for storage.

Checking the spark plug

Remove the spark plug and inspect it. The reddish color of the electrodes indicates the serviceability of the spark plug. If the spark plug looks different, it should be cleaned or replaced.

Checking metal cutting tools

If there is a metal cutting blade installed on the brush cutter, remove it and clean it from dirt. Check the knife for cracks. If cracks appear on the knife, do not use such a knife (it may lead to tragedy). Purified cutting tool store in a dry place.
