Smart kettle Xiaomi MiJia Kettle combines the functions of a thermopot - it not only boils water, but also maintains its temperature for a long period of time (from 1 to 12 hours). Moreover, the water temperature value can be set manually - the user has a choice in the range from 40 to 90°C in increments of 10°C.

Connecting to a smartphone

It is possible to set the desired degree of water temperature maintenance in the associated application ecosystem of the smart home Mi Home. But you can’t start the kettle from a smartphone remotely - boiling and keeping the water hot can only be done by pressing the touch control keys, which are hidden on the bend of the inside of the device’s handle.

Stylish appearance

The outer side of the model is made of white matte plastic, and the internal flask with a volume of about 1.5 liters is made of steel; accordingly, the kettle does not have any external water level sensor. Steel is also inner side covers. White color The case is slightly diluted with a black contact pad on the stand. In the inside of the last element there is a compartment for winding excess power cord.

Localization

Initially, the kettle was aimed at the Chinese market, so the inscriptions on its buttons are made in the form of hieroglyphs. Similar symbols appear from time to time in the smartphone application. But to a greater extent, the interface of the program for controlling the kettle is dominated by English language. Combined with intuitive icons, switching between the few application menu items will not be difficult.

Xiaomi's portfolio includes not only smartphones and tablets and all those gadgets that we talked about on the website, but also electric kettles. Moreover, the company produces models in which, jokes aside, you need to update the firmware and connect to a smartphone for synchronization and control, as well as those that are simpler and work like a regular electric kettle. But at the same time, in the corporate style of Xiaomi - inexpensive and solid. was the last one to come to us for testing.

If you believe Yandex.Market, Xiaomi Mi Kettle can now be purchased for 1,600 rubles. If you were thinking about purchasing a kettle and suddenly came across this review, you probably know that good kettle costs more today. Yes, there are cheaper models, but the quality is worth dreaming about. There are also more expensive ones, but is it worth overpaying if something similar can be found from Xiaomi, but for less money? Let's find out now.

Appearance, build quality and materials

Design is a very subjective thing. But since you choose Xiaomi products, you probably like it general style companies. Minimalism, simplicity, white color.

This is exactly what Xiaomi Mi Kettle looks like. White, round, neat with a small, discreet Mijia logo. The body is made of high-quality plastic with a small “spout” and a neat handle. There is a power trigger located under the handle. There is a button on the handle to open the lid.

There is nothing superfluous on the body; there are no indicators or “windows” for monitoring the water level. From an aesthetic point of view - a plus. From a practical point of view - a small minus.

The stand is similarly round and small.

In general, it even looks somewhat futuristic, as if from films about the near future. And, perhaps, stylish. Fits perfectly in my kitchen.

Equipment

Since these kettles are sold in most stores, brought unofficially, inside you will find the kettle itself, a stand, some documentation in Chinese, as well as an adapter from an Asian plug to a European one.

A cardboard box with a picture of the device.

Impressions of use

Let us remind you once again that this simple model, which only knows how to boil water, but does it well. Xiaomi has an advanced version, which can also maintain the temperature of boiling water, but today this is not our case.

We have already discussed the appearance, but it is worth dwelling in more detail on the lack of “windows” to determine the water level inside. There are none, and therefore in order to understand how much water is inside, you will have to open the lid, or after a couple of days of use you can easily learn to determine the approximate amount by weight. There are notches inside that indicate the amount of water. The kettle itself, by the way, is very light, as is the stand. By the way, it will not turn on without water; a boil-over protection mechanism is implemented.

Its lid opens in two stages: when you press the button, it rises a few centimeters and freezes. Then you can open it wide. This is done so that if there is boiling water inside, you will not be scalded by the steam escaping outside. The lid closes simply with a loud bang, which will easily confuse many, but do not be alarmed, this is exactly what the manufacturer intended.

As for sounds, it works quite noisily. If it is completely filled, then it is clearly audible. For example, my old Tefal or even Bork were somewhat quieter. Probably because the Tefal is entirely made of plastic, and the Bork, although metal, still produced less noise.

Xiaomi has a metal flask inside and a plastic outside. To the credit of the Chinese, it does not smell of anything, no smell of rubber, chemicals or plastic. The design of the flask inside allows you to retain heat large quantity time, but I personally didn’t notice it, although I didn’t stand near it with a stopwatch. It is impossible to get burned, since even when it has just boiled, it is only hot inside. The outside of the case will turn out to be barely warm, only to realize that the kettle has recently been working.

Like many things from the Chinese, Xiaomi Mi Kettle is “small in size”, so to speak in relation to household appliances. I'm used to volumes of 1.7 liters, but Mi Kettle has only 1.5 liters. It’s not critical, what are these 200 ml? On the other hand, it seems like I would like to.

Also, upon visual inspection, we notice that Mi Kettle does not have a filter or strainer, the same one that is usually at the “spout” of the kettle. Therefore, if your water is not so hot and scale deposits quickly accumulate on the walls, you will have an incentive to wash the kettle more often, which is not bad in principle. But since most of us are lazy, we write it down as a minus. However, it is easy to wash, since the lid has a large radius and is easy to get inside with your hand.

I especially liked the handle. Square shape. Personally, I found a very comfortable grip.

The kettle is placed quietly on the stand, which is nice. The stand has rubber feet to prevent the kettle from slipping. However, due to the fact that it weighs little, it still moves on the tablecloth.

Another pleasant point is that the case materials are not easily soiled. The plastic is matte and non-slip. Over the course of a year, mine remained perfectly white and was not noticed to collect dirt.

On the unpleasant side, we note that the wire is frankly short, it is often not enough, so you will have to find a good place in the kitchen, or use an extension cord.

What's the result?

Xiaomi Mi Kettle is an electric kettle model that is not without its drawbacks. But they all seemed insignificant to me personally. In general, the impression from such a kitchen unit was pleasant. Its main advantage is that kettles of this level from other manufacturers will definitely cost more.

Pros:

  • Great appearance
  • Boil-dry and short-circuit protection
  • It is impossible to get burned on the body or steam
  • Comfortable handle grip
  • No chemical odors
  • Good price

Minuses:

  • Short wire
  • Only 1.5 l
  • Quite noisy
  • Asian plug

Or maybe you're more comfortable

Chinese technology can be extremely obstinate. "Smart" kettle from major manufacturer was no exception.

Moving to new apartment- always a very difficult process. During the first two weeks, everything that can be broken breaks. So for me, the first thing that happened was the kettle burned out.

A quick search in offline stores did not yield anything good - decent brands simply disappeared from the shelves. Why take another device for 2 months? And then the idea came to buy the recently announced kettle from Xiaomi. Moreover, it was already on the “wants” list.

Who would have known what adventures the desire to furnish an apartment with “smart” appliances from China would turn out to be. But there were no reviews yet - and the kettle headed to Russia.

It's time to learn Chinese

An anecdote about how a pessimist teaches Chinese and is already so bearded that the author cannot be found. Only now I began to understand that learning Chinese is more of a necessity than the whim of teachers and popularizers of Chinese culture.

This is all to say that the kettle has arrived beautiful packaging, With detailed instructions, many inscriptions on the body... Without a single English character! Everything is only in hieroglyphs. There are no mnemonic icons.

By scientific poking it was possible to establish that near The button on the body (touch, by the way) is responsible for turning it on and heating it to a boil. What's next? Unknown. At the time of receiving the device, there was no information in Russian or English.

Based on the memory of the operation of other devices, Xiaomi launched an official application for smart home MiHome and tried to press second button. The kettle made a pleasant, quiet squeak, the LED blinked, and there was 0 effect.

There is not a word of English on the page for adding a new device. The MiKettle device is missing. (I know about Russification methods, setting the correct region did not help. The first game is torture for the fans.) What should I do?

Xiaomi as an interior element

Use a smart kettle as a regular one. I must admit, MiKettle performs its functions well and is ready to actively compete with other manufacturers. Even if they were produced by Tefal, Moulinex or Bosch.

One-piece the metal flask warms up much faster than its analogues. The thick plastic in which it is placed allows you to protect not only the appearance, but also the hands of the owner. After 3 months of use, it was not possible to feel the temperature of the kettle: it was barely warm even with boiling water inside.

Clever lid design prevents MiKettle from wear out fastenings I pressed the button and the lid opened slightly. If necessary, you can further finish it with your hands. You don’t have to worry about the traditional “head drop” in the form of the lid remaining in your hands when you open it the next time.

It turns off on time - also a plus, a little steam. Without water it still turns on- this is the first puncture of this spy unit. Shutting down after a “dry” start occurs almost instantly, but personally I harbored a grudge. Now I constantly check for water before turning it on.

Do Xiaomi read Russian Internet resources?

After a month of using MiKettle in “just a kettle” mode, I needed to set up the kitchen MiAmplifier. At this moment it turned out that the applications built into MiHome for devices received English in the latest update!

The hand itself reached out to search for new devices... Click on the kettle (far button), agonizing wait, a dozen attempts to restart Bluetooth and repeated clicks - and here it is, the moment of truth. The app has found the kettle! Never before has the disappointment with Xiaomi devices been so great.

Works? And how! But not like that

When ordering the Xiaomi Mi Kettle, I imagined an almost intelligent kitchen unit that could do everything in the world - it boils water itself, pours tea, and sings Chinese songs. It turned out - it seemed.

All this is due to lack of information. Unfortunately, in reality the kettle is not at all as intelligent as we would like. And not even in the right way.

I have a router and many other Xiaomi branded gadgets. They all come together into one ecosystem controlled via Wi-Fi using a smartphone. As it turned out, the teapot refers to it only formally.

It still runs through the official MiHome application (iOS, Android). But - via Bluetooth. Thus, the communication range is only 5-7 meters in a real Russian apartment. Or even less if there is a strong source of electromagnetic fields between the smartphone and the kettle. For example, a refrigerator, microwave or stove.

Once Mi Kettle is linked to your Xiaomi account via MiHome, it becomes possible to remote control . Actually, all functions, except boiling, work only through a smartphone.

And to be even more precise, there is only one function: maintaining a constant temperature in the kettle. From the main screen of the MiKettle page in MiHome, you can launch one of the preset profiles: 90, 70, 50 or 30 degrees. Here you can set a different temperature using the slider, after checking the manual control mode box.

You can also specify the heating principle in the settings. The kettle keeps getting colder all the time required temperature, or heats up to it at certain intervals.

“Mind” is not real!

The application works with the kettle only within the capabilities of the Bluetooth connection. As soon as it breaks, the smartphone moves away - the connection is lost, no control.

You can’t dream of being able to turn on the kettle as you drive up to your house. Switch kettle control to web interface is not possible using standard means. And happiness and hot tea were so close from the doorstep...

And where is the mind here? Just another thermopot - cheap, but beautiful and a little mysterious. Although for
