Modern roof coverings. What materials are used for roofing? Piece roofing products

At the beginning of the third millennium, people use devices pitched roofs dozens, if not hundreds, of technologies and materials. Some of them have a history of thousands of years and are being improved over time. Others are just conquering the market, having recently passed the development and testing stage. Not all are modern roofing materials available today in Russia, however, the main ones are presented and the choice is quite wide.

The more perfect the roof, the greater the number of additional elements available for it. These are ridges, valleys, wind and gable elements, ventilation devices, details for passing communications through the roof, and so on. When calculating the budget, it is necessary to take into account not only the price of the base material per m², but also the complex of additional elements. The more complex the roof shape, the greater the number of additions required. The total cost of a simple and complex roof of the same total area can vary quite significantly.

The range of additional elements is quite large

Asbestos cement corrugated sheets (mistakenly called slate)

This is truly cheap and cheerful. Easy to install, looks unsightly. True, they also produce less dull colored products. Sheets of regular UV profile with a wave height of 40 mm and reinforced profiles of 54 mm are produced. CF sheets have a thickness from 4.8 to 5.8 mm, reinforced - from 6 to 7.5 mm. The width of the wave is 15 cm, the weight of a regular sheet is up to 26 kg, reinforced - up to 35 kg. It requires at least two people to install it. Preparation of the roof for ACVL is minimal: pseudo-slate weighs relatively little, a sheathing made of non-woven steel is sufficient. edged boards. Sometimes you can buy a ridge from additional elements; the rest has to be made of galvanized steel.

Corrugated asbestos cement sheets. Extensions, including the valley, can be made of galvanized steel

Asbestos-cement sheets are fragile and susceptible to overgrowing with moss, which gradually destroys them. Western doctors and environmentalists claim that asbestos is a terrible poison; they come into contact with it only in spacesuits similar to space ones. When discovered, asbestos-containing materials are disposed of with special precautions, as if they were nuclear waste. Our manufacturers claim that domestic chrysotile asbestos, used for the manufacture of ACVL, is almost beneficial to health.

Russian scientists are modestly silent or say that they have no data on the dangers of chrysotile asbestos. It is considered harmful only in production. The truth is probably in the middle. As long as there is no replacement for “slate” in terms of price, it will be produced. Asbestos-cement products can be called a modern material only because it is actively produced and used in our time. Considering its non-environmental friendliness, we can expect that the production of “slate” will sooner or later be discontinued, as happened in countries with a developed construction industry.

Asbestos-cement corrugated sheets of medium profile 40/150

The service life of asbestos-cement sheets can vary greatly. During snowy winters, thin sheets may crack and require replacement after 10 years. Reinforced ones of maximum thickness with proper care and high-quality lathing will last 40 years. Care consists of cleaning the “slate” from dirt and moss and regularly painting it, which will improve its appearance. Without additional elements and work, roofing material made from ACVL will cost 130-220 rubles, depending on the type of sheet.

"Evroshifer"

This term is only used in countries former USSR, where few people have seen real slate. The shape of “Euro slate” is similar to corrugated asbestos-cement sheets and has several color options. The most common in Russia trademark"Euro slate" - Ondulin. No wonder, because the French company built a large plant in Nizhny Novgorod. “Euroslate” is a cellulose-fiber base impregnated with a bitumen composition using mineral filler, rubber components and stabilizers. It has a bright, rich color and is resistant to ultraviolet radiation. Ondulin and its analogues do not have the main disadvantage inherent in ACVL - fragility.

Euroslate is plastic and bends easily. It can be used even on a not very high-quality, uneven roof. If the base is deformed, it will simply take its shape. This material is loved by European farmers: after all, rafter systems and foundations for the roof of agricultural structures are not always carried out with the same degree of care as for residential and public buildings. Thanks to its flexibility, “Euro slate” can be used to cover curved roofs. It can even be used to cover old roofing over existing roofing.

Installation of the “Euro slate” is simple. The material is soft, you need to drive special nails without fanaticism.

Wavy bitumen sheets very light (only 6.5 kg), the load on the rafter system is minimal. The base is a lathing, as for asbestos-cement sheets. Installation is even simpler; the sheets are cut with a regular hacksaw. Manufacturers complete the “Euro slate” with the necessary additional elements. You can even purchase ready-made, sheet-sized, transparent hatches for access to the roof. Fully clear sheets are also available that are compatible with the basic ones. Another positive property of bitumen slate: it belongs to the group of roofing materials that do not form condensation. There is no need for under-roof film.

Onduline provides a 15-year warranty on its products, with an average service life of 40 years. Does not require personal care. The cost of one square meter depends on the roof slope and the color of the sheets, excluding additional elements, it is approximately 200-250 rubles. In order to save money, the extensions are sometimes replaced with metal ones. Roofing installation work is also inexpensive, and you can do it yourself.

Onduline offers roofing material under a new brand: Onduvilla

In essence, this is the same “Euro slate”, but with a profile reminiscent of ceramic tiles and cut into low strips. Has more color options, looks better, costs more

It has properties similar to metal tiles and is quickly installed. Of all roofing materials, it is most susceptible to avalanches of snow masses. Metal with a thickness of 0.4-1 mm is used, both galvanized and additionally coated with polymer. Convenient for covering long-span buildings. Roofing corrugated sheets with a polymer coating is somewhat cheaper than metal tiles of the same thickness.

Corrugated sheeting is very slippery, it is advisable to install snow guards

Seam roofing

Seam roofing is made of metal similar to that used in the manufacture of metal tiles. Plates are produced with a pre-prepared seam connection. When installing on the roof, the fold must be snapped in place and bent completely. A properly assembled seam roof is absolutely sealed: there are no sheet overlaps, and the seam itself does not allow water to pass through. In addition, the design makes it possible to reduce the number of fastening elements (and holes from them) located on the roof surface to a minimum. Other properties and price are similar to metal tiles. Labor costs for installation are slightly higher.

Modern seam roofing is quite industrial

Cink Steel

Roofing made of galvanized steel of the traditional type is being used less and less. It is supported by high tightness and competent system leads storm water, in which there is no need for horizontal elements of storm drainage. Unfortunately, installing such a roof in compliance with all the rules is labor-intensive; the sheets have to be cut and the folds bent at the construction site. In addition, in order to ensure the required service life of 40 years, after 4-6 years of service, it is necessary to clean the metal every other year and coat it with oil paint. Taking into account cutting, galvanizing with a thickness of 0.7 mm costs approximately 250 rubles.

The roof can be galvanized beautifully, but it will take even more effort

Tiles and its types

Metal tiles are made from thin profiled galvanized sheet steel coated with a protective and decorative coating. Metal with a thickness of 0.4-0.7 mm is used, usually 0.45 or 0.5 mm. The roof is very light - only 5 kg/m². Rigid profile imitating natural tiles, invented by Finn Paavo Ranilla in 1961. The first samples of metal tiles were painted with oil paints. Today it is more advanced polymer compositions. In addition to the basic colors, you can order any of the thousands of shades from the RAL catalog.

The lion's share of metal tiles offered on the Russian market in CIS countries is locally produced. The bulk of products have a budget polyester coating, semi-gloss or matte. Materials with more durable and expensive coatings from plastisol, polyurethane and polyvinylidene fluoride.

Metal tiles can be very similar to ceramic ones. Especially when combined with such voluminous ridge elements

Installation of metal tiles is simple, the requirements for preparing the base are minimal (sheathing is required). Manufacturers offer a huge number of additional elements and storm systems in the color of the roof. For complex roofs, you can order any parts according to individual sizes. Profiled metal sheets are strong, non-flammable and quite durable. Manufacturers provide a guarantee of 10-15 years, the actual service life is 30-50 years. The disadvantages include the noise of the coating during rain and high condensation, which is inherent in all metal roofs.

A square meter of metal tiles without additions will cost an average of 200 rubles for polyester and up to 450 rubles for other types of coating.

Composite metal tiles

Further development of metal tiles. It has a more relief profile, ridge elements that reliably imitate natural tiles or wood shingles. The dimensions of the sheets are small in height, per row. The polymer coating is protected on top by a layer of colored stone chips, filled with a layer of transparent polymer. For primary protection of steel, a reliable aluminum-zinc coating is used. Unlike conventional metal tiles, composite tiles do not make noise when it rains. The price is high - 750-1100 rubles/m². But composite tiles will last a hundred years, or even more.

Composite tiles quite successfully imitate natural material(in this case shingles) and allows you to work with roofs of more complex shapes

Flexible bitumen shingles

Handsome and durable material, consisting of a base impregnated with bitumen and sprinkled with stone chips, was invented in the middle of the last century in the USA. At first it imitated the wooden shingles so beloved by Americans, but today it has acquired its own aesthetic meaning and resembles shingles or scales (lamella armor, depending on what you like).

The current bitumen shingles are multilayer material based on fiberglass impregnated with high-quality modified bitumen containing powdered mineral filler. The upper part is covered with a protective and decorative coating of colored stone chips. The self-adhesive layer is located at the bottom. Leading manufacturers offer a wide variety of shapes and color solutions tiles. The starting strip, ridge and valley are made from the same material as the tile itself; the remaining additional elements are made from galvanized steel coated with polymer.

Unlike other piece or sheet roofing materials, properly installed asphalt shingles provide a single waterproof roof covering without any gaps. At the same time, it is flexible, which allows it to withstand deformations of the base. In addition, there are no fasteners or holes on the surface. Flexible tiles are suitable for roofing work on roofs with large bending radii, the minimum recommended slope is 12°, and less is possible if simple conditions are met.

Flexible tiles are popular in many countries

Base under bitumen shingles must be prepared carefully: it must be a flat, solid base made of sheet materials (OSB, moisture-resistant plywood) or edged boards. The tightness of the roof requires mandatory ventilation of the under-roof space. Laying tiles is quite simple, but requires care.

The service life of high-quality bitumen shingles is at least half a century. Domestic Ruflex, for example, is guaranteed for 35 years. Costs from 280 to 420 rubles per m².

Unique properties, attractive appearance and reasonable price have made bitumen shingles popular in all corners of the world. In the USA and Canada, the vast majority of pitched roofs are covered with flexible tiles. Russia is no exception, where two of its own largest manufacturers appeared.

The variety of textures and colors allows you to choose bitumen shingles for any architectural appearance of the building

The favorite roofing covering in European countries. Fired ceramics protected roofs several thousand years ago, but today this material is perhaps even more in demand and relevant. The greatest perfection in its production was achieved by craftsmen from those regions where pure fusible clays are mined: Bavaria, Italy, Greece, and the southern provinces of Spain. In our country, clay deposits are indeed suitable quality unknown to date. High-quality ceramic tiles are brought to Russia and the markets of the CIS countries from Western Europe. True, it produces its own, but it does not reach the level of imported products and is not widespread.

Ceramic tiles - classics of the genre

There are many models of tiles, among them there are two main types: grooved (volumetric) and strip (flat). Manufacturers offer a variety of additional ceramic elements for all possible occasions. In addition to natural, the surface of the tiles can be engobed (metal oxides are added to the composition, changing color and texture) and glazed. Tiles are the heaviest of roofing materials (up to 60 kg/m²), rafter system must be very durable. But the coating is completely silent, does not form condensation, does not overheat and is ventilated.

The tiles perfectly cover curved roofs

High demands are placed on the construction of the supporting structure and the preparation of the roof (sheathing), especially in terms of strength. Installation of the tiles themselves is also quite labor-intensive and requires care, but their service life is very long. The literature indicates that it is at least one hundred years. In Europe you can see historical buildings that have stood under tiled roofs for half a millennium. The price per square meter of ordinary high-quality ceramic tiles starts from 900 rubles/m².

It is made from a cement-sand mixture with coloring and modifying additives. The technology is similar to production paving slabs semi-dry pressing method. The shape of concrete tiles completely imitates ceramic tiles and has the same wide range of additions. concrete surface can be processed additionally, giving it better hydrophobicity and an attractive appearance. Concrete tiles are as heavy as natural ones. It costs much less than ceramics: 300-500 rubles/m², but it will not last as long (about 50 years).

Concrete tiles with a semi-gloss coating are indistinguishable from ceramic tiles in appearance, but cannot replace them

Roof tiles made from other materials

From time to time, individual companies try to enter the roofing materials market with new products, in particular, tiles made of composite thermoplastic. Practice has shown that the stated characteristics and service life do not correspond to the actual ones. There were also attempts to establish the production of tiles from autoclaved silicate concrete, but this material did not take root.

Zinc-titanium roofing

In developed countries, roofing made of steel with a zinc-titanium coating is quite common. As a rule, this is a rebated design. The coating is extremely durable, with a service life of hundreds of years. In Russia it is rare due to the high cost, the need for careful installation and the “lead” patina - we like it brighter.

Zinc-titanium, shiny at first, develops a dark gray patina over time. No maintenance required

Copper roofing and aluminum

Copper roofing can be made in in different forms: sheet, scaly tiles, profiled. Very expensive, very beautiful, almost forever.

Bituminous shingles can also be covered with a thin sheet of copper.

The material, aluminum, which was once predicted to revolutionize the roofing business, has not really caught on. At obvious advantages, the main one being the absence of corrosion, is rare. The reason is most likely its unassuming appearance and excessive softness.

Slate

Real slate is made from durable slate stone dark shades. Slate is split into plates 4-8 mm thick and processed to the required shape. It can be used to cover roofs of any shape, including very complex ones.

Slate plates can have a strict rectangular shape

The plates can be cut to any size, and custom products are possible. Slate is very popular in Germany and France; now houses with roofs made of real stone slate can be seen in Russia. This is the case, for example, with Alla Borisovna Pugacheva. Slate is beautiful, very durable, and expensive.

Traditional roofs in a new interpretation

Such traditional types roofing, such as wooden shingles and shingles, reed and thatch, are experiencing a rebirth. In those involving a high proportion manual labor technology part production processes managed to automate.

Shingled roofs are loved by Russians, Scandinavians and residents North America

These types of roofs are not cheap, labor-intensive to install, and will not become widespread. But they will not sink into oblivion; the demand for them, although limited, is stable.

The valley of this roof is made of copper; aerators are made on the ridge, as in a roof made of flexible tiles. Material - Siberian larch

Reed, reed and thatch roofs perfectly insulate the house from both cold and heat. Such roofs can often be seen not only in Ukraine and southern Russia, but also in Britain and Germany.

So, we looked at modern roofing materials for pitched roofs. What choice to make during construction country house? If you have a serious budget, ceramic tiles and slate slate cannot compete. For budget construction, flexible bitumen shingles are good. She's the same the best way Suitable for complex roofs. Metal tiles and ondulin are a little cheaper. They are also the easiest to install if the roof is installed independently. Each roofing material has its own disadvantages and advantages, corresponding to its price.

Modern roofing materials, which are offered by manufacturers today, amaze with their diversity. It is difficult to find the ideal option for all cases; it is recommended to be guided by certain climatic factors and design features. We offer an overview of roofing coverings that will help you make the right choice.

Types of roofing materials: sand tiles, ceramic tiles, roofing felt, slate roofing, metal tiles, wooden roofing.

Classification of roofing products by composition and appearance

Any review would be incomplete without presenting a classification of roofing materials. Today, when choosing, it is important to know what the coating is made of. All roofing materials can be roughly divided into:

  • mineral ( stone materials, these include tiles, slate tiles, slate);
  • organic (polymer, bitumen);
  • metal.

By appearance, all roofing material can be divided into:

  1. Sheet materials:
  • profiled, flat metal sheets;
  • asbestos-cement sheets, metal tiles, ondulin, etc.;
  • PVC sheets;
  • bitumen-fibrous.
  1. Soft roofing materials:
  • roll coverings;
  • film coatings, that is, rubber and PVC membranes;
  • piece materials;
  • mastics (bitumen, polymer).

Sheet and soft roofing products

Modern soft roofs are increasingly gaining popularity due to the fact that they are very simple, easy to install, and have excellent hydro- and thermal insulation properties. Such materials are a canvas made of a rot-resistant base (cardboard, fiberglass, polyester, fiberglass) coated with bitumen, a mixture of bitumen and polymer.

All similar ones are divided into:

  • APP-modified with increased heat resistance;
  • SBS-modified, retaining elasticity even in severe frosts.

The work of laying such material is very simple; a specific option is selected based on climatic conditions. In our climate, it is best to take SBS materials that tolerate low temperatures. Soft roofs are used to cover flat roofs.

Piece roofing products

Roofing piece products are tiles, translucent and metal roofing, which are used to cover attics, hip roofs with a very large slope. Previously, reeds and shingles were used, but today more modern and reliable products are offered, such as slate slate, shingles, natural ceramic tiles and others.

Shingles are small wooden planks with grooves and a wedge-shaped cross-section; such material is laid in several layers.

The appearance is very attractive, but installation is quite complicated.

Slate slate is made from slate rocks, the surface of such a roof will be very attractive and durable.

Ceramic tiles are considered the most attractive roofing material; they are environmentally friendly, durable, and have excellent quality characteristics. Today, three forms of tiles are used:

  • flat, or beaver tail. The top tile covers the junction of the two lower ones;
  • grooved with a locking connection;
  • grooved (during installation, the material of the upper and lower rows is laid with opposite ends, that is, the effect of grooves is obtained).

Materials such as cement-sand tiles are also used, which are made from quartz sand, Portland cement with the addition of iron oxide pigments. It is fireproof, does not fade, and is durable. It is used for pitched roofs, the installation itself is quite simple.

Metal roofing: how is it promising?

The most common material for is metal. It has many advantages, including hygiene, strength, fire resistance and durability. Additionally, metal roofing is very attractive and can be customized to fit any roof shape. But there are also some disadvantages here: susceptibility to corrosion (which requires a protection complex, quite significant in price), good heat and sound conductivity.

Metal roofs are quite diverse; they are produced today from piece, sheet materials, such as duralumin and steel sheets, seam roofs made of aluminum and alloys, in the form of stamped metal tiles, copper sheets.

The most popular materials today are galvanized sheets, which can be coated with a protective polymer film. We will use a special layer of zinc, copper, titanium alloy, which makes the corrosion protection better. Modern coatings made of cold-rolled steel treated with hot zinc are considered the best. Their service life can range from thirty to one hundred years.

Non-galvanized steel is short-lived and requires constant maintenance. Aluzinc, which consists of an alloy of aluminum, zinc, and silicon, is considered to be of higher quality.

What does the choice depend on?

When choosing roofing materials for a roof, it is necessary to pay attention to a variety of factors that ultimately influence operation. Among them it is necessary to highlight:

  1. Resistance to loads such as mechanical, wind, snow loads, frost resistance, influence ultraviolet rays, temperature changes.
  2. The loads that roofing materials will exert on roofing pie, that is, rafters, sheathing.
  3. An architectural solution for the roof, on the basis of which the material for the covering itself is selected. These are the forms design features, dimensions, slope. For example, for ceramic or flexible tiles, the slope should not be less than 30-35 degrees.
  4. Fire resistance and durability. This factor depends largely on the purpose of the roof. So, for an ordinary shed there is no point in selecting expensive, high-tech materials, but fire resistance is important here.

Warranty periods for roofing materials

Any roofing material has its own warranty period, during which manufacturers promise to preserve the integrity of the coating and its properties (but only if the installation and operation technology is followed):

  1. Soft tiles usually have a warranty period of 15-20 years, but this applies to the tightness of the coating and the absence of various manufacturing defects. There is no guarantee on the color of the material, although bitumen coatings practically do not fade, maintaining their shade.
  2. Metal tiles have a shorter lifespan - about 5-15 years, but it all depends on the type of polymer coating. The warranty does not cover changes in gloss or discoloration associated with roof contamination.
  3. Natural ceramic tiles have longer warranty periods of 30 years plus an additional guarantee for the frost resistance of the roof, but this does not apply to improper transportation, during which the materials may be damaged.
  4. Slate has a shelf life of up to 10 years, but such materials quickly fade, and the warranty does not cover possible bitumen stains on the surface.
  5. Corrugated bitumen sheets have longer terms - up to fifteen years, but here the guarantee also does not apply to color preservation.
  6. Roofing steel and corrugated sheeting are more durable; the shelf life of these materials is 15-20 years.
  7. Slate roofs are quite durable, such materials have a guarantee of about 30-40 years, and the tiles themselves do not lose their color.
  8. Seam metal roofs have a shelf life of up to 20 years (depending on the material of manufacture).
  9. Copper roofing is the most durable, its warranty period can be up to one hundred years, although the material may change due to oxidation. But at the same time, a noble greenish or reddish tint gives the roof a more noble, attractive appearance.

But in reality, roofing materials can have completely different service life, which exceeds the manufacturer’s data several times. So, without major repairs, the service life is:

  • 30-50 years for soft tiles;
  • 30-50 years for metal tiles;
  • 100-150 years for ceramic natural tiles;
  • 30-40 years for slate;
  • 15-25 years for corrugated bitumen sheets;
  • up to 50 years for roofing steel and corrugated sheets;
  • 150-200 years for slate roofing;
  • up to 50 years for standing seam roofing;
  • up to 200 years for a copper roof.

Today, more and more different roofing materials are appearing, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. When choosing a roofing material, it is recommended to carefully weigh the pros and cons. At the same time, the main selection criterion is increasingly becoming financial issue, since it is necessary to lay the roof covering with high quality and for a long time, and the cost of materials is usually not the cheapest.

Therefore, when choosing, you must be guided by these simple indicators as: resistance to atmospheric influences, thermal conductivity, frost resistance, corrosion resistance, attractiveness. Only after this can you purchase the material that suits you best. We hope that our review will help you choose high-quality, durable roofing material that will last for many decades.

For roofing today there is a huge range of materials that meet any user’s needs: reliability, aesthetics, cost, durability. But before you start roofing work, you should decide what materials there are, what would be better suited for an individual building. The specific choice depends on the characteristics, properties, advantages and disadvantages of each piece or sheet product.

Modern types of roofing materials are varied and are divided into several main types:

  • leafy;
  • piece;
  • liquid/mastic;
  • folded;
  • soft.

Each group combines varieties of products with similar characteristics and features.

Sheet roofing materials: types and features

Metal tiles: profitable, practical, reasonable

One of the most popular sheet products is metal tiles. Are being manufactured modern materials This group is made of steel sheets of various thicknesses, the surface is covered with a protective layer of varnish, which guarantees resistance to mechanical damage and resistance to corrosion. Of interest is the variety of materials made from different materials:

  1. Galvanized steel sheets with a thickness of 0.45-0.6 mm.

Advice! If you plan to cover the roof in an area with an increased threat of precipitation or winds, you should choose an aluzinc coating, as it is the most durable and effectively resists accidental impacts from pebbles, cones, branches and other debris. The cost of the sheets will be higher, but the strength will be much greater

  1. Aluminum metal tiles- a material that will never rust. Lack of weight is an additional advantage, and the meager color palette and high price are disadvantages.
  2. Copper sheet metal tiles – a spectacular coating with excellent appearance. There is only one drawback - the high price.

The material is classified according to the geometric type of profile and the depth of the insole of the sheets, which sometimes creates incredible aesthetic shapes. Pros:

  • ease;
  • aesthetics;
  • ease of installation;
  • high level of resistance to aggressive environments;
  • ease of transportation;
  • affordability;
  • a huge variety of textures and colors.
  • a large percentage of waste, which reduces efficiency;
  • high noise threshold: the roof will transmit the sounds of rain, wind and other natural phenomena.

Advice! You should be careful about products supplied by different manufacturers: different brands offer popular types of profiles (Monterrey, Cascade) with some visual differences - this can be important for creating a unified roof covering

It is obvious that the leaf modern roofing This type has high strength indicators, service life reaches 50 years, the average price level is $ 20-250 per m2.

Sheet corrugated sheets: profitable and practical

When producing corrugated sheets, the same raw materials are used as for metal tiles, but there are differences in steel - the cold-rolled material is coated with a layer of hot zinc/aluzinc, which increases the thickness of the corrugated, trapezoidal or rectangular profile. The wide range of applications is due to a wide range of products, the most famous brands: H60, C8, C44, C21, H57, NS35.

Fact! For coatings, manufacturers offer both universal products and sheets with imitation stone and wood: a pattern is applied on top of the steel sheet, covered with polymer layers, which increases resistance to mechanical damage and chips

Advantages:

  • durability;
  • strength;
  • ease of transportation and installation;
  • resistance to mechanical stress and weather conditions;
  • long period of preservation of the original appearance and form;
  • light weight.

There is only one minus - low sound insulation. The price of the material starts from $10/m2.

Ondulin: good, but flammable

Naturalness and inexpensive price sheet material ensured the wide popularity of ondulin. Made from several layers of cellulose fiber impregnated with additives, the piece product is coated protective layers paints, which extends the service life.

Sheet dimensions: weight 6.5 kg, length 2 m, width 0.96 m, wave height 36 mm. There are non-standard formats: 0.76x1.95 m. Price range from $ 50/piece. Pros:

  • high flexibility, which allows the use of roofing materials for roofs of various shapes;
  • high water resistance;
  • environmental friendliness, hygiene;
  • non-susceptibility to aggressive chemicals;
  • high load tolerance with light sheet weight;
  • ease of transportation, installation, processing;
  • efficiency;
  • complete silence;
  • affordable price.

Disadvantages of coverage:

  • fades;
  • extremely low level of flammability;
  • low lighting provokes the development of fungus and moss;
  • When exposed to heat, a pungent odor of bitumen is released and the sheets soften.

Important! New roofing materials successfully cope with fire hazards, however, this fact should be clarified with the manufacturer and require certification confirmation

Slate: good, but with asbestos

Slate is the most affordable roof covering. Consisting of Portland cement (85%) and asbestos (15%), the product has the following dimensions: weight 10-15 kg, length 1.75 m, width 0.98-1.13 m, number of waves 6-8. Most often, these roofing materials are used in buildings for economic and general purposes. But you can also cover a residential building, especially if you have a limited budget; there are sheets of different colors that look quite attractive, but the price of the material will be a little higher. Standard sheets cost from $3/piece, service life is 30-40 years.

  • high bending and impact strength;
  • extremely high fire resistance.

The disadvantages include the following properties:

  • fragility;
  • hygroscopicity.

Seam roofing

The varieties of this type of product are wide enough to meet all customer requirements. Blanks are created using special technology, forming a special type of connection of parts. Seams can be single, standing, double, or lying. After installation, a continuous coating is obtained with a base of metal sheets, firmly and reliably fastened together.

Advantages:

  • wide color spectrum;
  • non-flammability and resistance to low temperatures;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • strength;
  • aesthetics;
  • high flexibility, thanks to which roofs of complex structures can be finished;
  • lightness of sheets.

The disadvantages include the following properties:

  • poor shock tolerance;
  • mandatory insulation;
  • need for assistance during installation;
  • high noise threshold;
  • sheets accumulate static electricity.

As for the price, it largely depends on the manufacturer and color and starts at $5 per sheet. Service life up to 30 years. Today we offer modern seam copper roofing materials with a thickness of 0.3 mm, a width of 0.7 m, a weight of 5-10 kg, or aluminum with a weight of 2-5 kg.

Advice! If you want to cover your roof with copper or aluminum seam products, you should find craftsmen in advance: the service market is limited, and independent installation is extremely difficult

Soft roofing: practical and convenient

In case of installation for buildings on difficult soils, you should review modern lightweight roofing materials. These include soft roofing. There are types of coating, distinguished by the type of raw material:

  • mastic;
  • membrane made of polymer material;
  • soft bitumen shingles;
  • roll coverings.

The advantages of the product include the following qualities:

  • high resistance to aggressive environmental influences;
  • strength;
  • ease of transportation, processing, installation;
  • low noise threshold;
  • fire safety;
  • water resistance;
  • high thermal insulation and antifungal characteristics;
  • elasticity.

The disadvantage is the short service life - up to 15 years. When selecting types of mastic-based roofing materials, you should pay attention to the percentage of dry residue, the level of adhesion and the time of complete hardening. Price from $15/m2. It should be remembered that there is soft tiles, which can be not only a roof covering, but also as protection for adjacent vertical walls.

New types of roofing materials are not often popular, but they should not be underestimated. These include membrane, roll covering, Rizolin.

  1. Membrane products 0.8-2 mm thick, made of PVC, EDPM (rubber), TPO (thermoplastic olefins). The service life is up to 30 years, products other than those made of polymers (PVC) are considered environmentally friendly. Service life of at least 50 years, price from $50\m2. Advantages: large width and the ability to work in all weather conditions. Cons: careful preparation of the roof, exposure to chemical attack.
  2. Soft roll roofing– this is roofing material and all its derivatives. Thanks to double-sided processing, impregnation and application of a protective layer in the form of bulk material, the product is considered quite durable, but short-lived - a service life of up to 5 years. But the price is extremely affordable: from $5 per sheet.

Advice! If you need types of rolled roofing, but more durable, you should choose from new products made with the addition of fiberglass or polyester fabric. Their service life reaches up to 30 years, the price is slightly higher, the quality and practical indicators are also high

  1. Rizolin is a coating with a flexible and soft structure of a self-adhesive type with a reinforced layer filled with bitumen-polymer substances and plasticizers. Choice the right type roof covering is one of the most important decisions in the process of building a house. The roof is the culmination of every home's construction, and one of the most important elements designs. Great importance It also has its aesthetics - you can give it a stylish and harmonious look using modern roofing materials. Therefore, it is important to choose the covering individually for each building, taking into account its style, and at the same time the strength and functionality of the roofing material.

Modern roofing materials for the roof - main characteristics

The roofing materials market provides us with a huge selection. And although it would seem that it is impossible to come up with anything fundamentally new in this area, manufacturers offer more modern solutions with high technological parameters. Modern roofing materials are durable, strong, resistant to damage and bad weather conditions. Today, coatings offer us a wide variety of shapes, types and other aesthetic characteristics. Can anyone dream of a dark blue or green roof? No problem. Or a roof garden? Today we have many different possibilities open to us.

Today there are much more coverages functionality than several dozen, and even more so hundreds of years ago:

  • they can perfectly protect the house from rain and cold;
  • they can be vapor-tight;
  • look very elegant;
  • provide the opportunity to cover the attic or create seating areas on a flat roof;
  • manufacturers go even further - today the roof can even be used to produce thermal energy.

These and other features give us many advantages.

Modern types of roofing materials for the roof

The types of roofing materials cannot be random. They are selected according to the roof structure, its angle, location and surface complexity. There are modern roofing materials for flat roofs and for pitched roofs, which have their own characteristics. Modern roofing materials pitched roofs often represented by tiles, in some cases it is better to choose ceramic tiles, in others, steel roofing tiles are recommended.

Ceramic tiles - the most popular for centuries

For many centuries and to this day, the most popular roofing material is ceramic tiles. With the help of various types, it can be easily matched to the design of the house and the features of the surface. For many years, this material has been made from clay, while modern tiles are covered with additional reinforcing layers. This covering is heavy and requires a correspondingly strong rafter structure. We can choose between several types of tiles and a wide range of colors, making it easy to match the flooring option to the style of your home.

The tiles are weather-resistant, strong, durable, and look very aesthetically pleasing. It can be used both on roofs of simple shape and on those whose surface has several levels, chimneys and ventilation openings. Ceramic tile Requires professional styling. Any flaw in the work can lead in the short term to leaks, and in the long term to a weakening of the strength of the entire roof structure.

Very durable cement-sand or cement tiles

Slightly less popular, but also quite common, are cement tiles. It is a hard and heavy surface made from a mixture of cement, water and sand. Such tiles are much cheaper than ceramic tiles, and at the same time extremely durable - manufacturers provide up to 70 years of warranty on them. Compared to ceramic, it is more resistant to dirt, so the roof will look like new even after many years. The surface of cement-sand tiles is covered in such a way that contamination or growth of moss is minimized.

Laying cement-sand tiles on a roof requires the same precision as with other types of tiles. It is necessary to carefully measure the entire roof, and then buy the right amount of material. For installation you need to hire professionals who will do it flawlessly. Poor-quality installation has serious consequences - moisture in the attic, cold and slow destruction of the supporting structure of the roof under the influence of moisture, mold and fungi.

Light covering - bitumen shingles

If we want to have tiles covering the roof, but are looking for a lighter material that does not pose a risk even if the supporting structure is not very strong, it is worth considering asphalt shingles. It is very light and looks like tiles, but is not made of clay or cement. It is made from special non-woven glass or cellulose, and finished surface covered with asphalt and mineral powder.

These coverings are available in a wide range of colors and patterns and can be matched to the style of any building without any hassle. This type of coating will look great on the roof of cottages and private houses. Such surfaces are resistant to deformation and can withstand snow, rain, wind and frost. They will protect the roof and attic from moisture penetration, and in summer they will prevent the attic from overheating.

Sheet metal products imitating tiles

An excellent alternative to tiles are metal tiles or metal sheets that are formed into rows of tiles. They are very easy to install on any type of roof. This material is especially recommended for roofing simple shapes. However, they can create some installation inconveniences, for example around chimneys or other roof structural elements. Metal tiles have a sheet of steel or aluminum inside, and on both sides external parties she's covered various types reinforcing materials. This material is strong, stable and prevents moisture from penetrating into the deeper parts of the roof. This is an excellent covering for large roofs with simple shapes.

Metal shingles come in a huge range of shapes and colors. So it is well suited for any roof, regardless of whether the building has a minimalist shape or a more complex one. At proper care the surface will provide good operation for many years. The coating is resistant to wind, sun, frost and water, it is easy to keep clean, smooth surface the sheet allows the dirt to simply flow down. It is worth choosing steel roofing tiles if you value the aesthetics of tiles and at the same time want to save money.

Innovations in the market of modern roofing materials

Roofing materials market in last years is actively developing, so you can be sure that designers and engineers of the best roofing companies are constantly improving their products and technologies, offering new modern roofing materials for soft roof and other interesting technologies.

Flexible, waterproof membrane

Among interesting solutions For flat roofs, you can select a material called - this is a seamless coating that forms a flexible, durable membrane on the roof. It is ideal for soft roofing and roofs that will be used as terraces, gardens and recreational areas. The drug is applied in semi-liquid form using a conventional roller, without the need to remove previous layers of coating.

The material provides an ideal covering on the roof and also performs well in places where it binds together various building materials, such as steel and concrete.

It can also be used on steep roofs, with varying amounts of slope, chimney, attic and other roof structures. This coating will make the roof extremely rigid and resistant to leaks, even in areas that cause many problems with traditional roofing.

Elastodeck is an innovative and functional alternative to traditional bitumen or asphalt surfacing. This coating is much more resistant to weather conditions. A sunny day won't hurt him, severe frost and heavy rains. A flexible membrane roof guarantees at least ten years of reliable service.

An ingenious solution is modern roofing panels with built-in. Such a roof will have another function - generating energy for heating the house and heating water. Roofing panels are a solution that has been developed for discerning investors who value elegance, functionality, and at the same time are interested in renewable energy sources, which will ultimately bring lower heating and hot water bills.

The innovative coating consists of sandwich panels and photovoltaic modules that are lightweight, flexible and damage-resistant. This coating is ideal for both small private houses and larger residential buildings and facilities providing recreational services. How bigger roof, the larger the photovoltaic modules, and therefore the more energy will come from renewable sources.

Solar energy as part of the roof is an environmentally friendly, economical and aesthetic solution. Roof panels do not require any additional accessories, they are perfectly presented on the roof and do not disturb its architecture. Elements of this design are very light and do not require structural reinforcement. Roof with integrated solar battery is an investment that will provide residents with comfort, warmth, and at the same time increase the value of the entire property. If you value modern, innovative technologies, solar roofing panels are one of the best solutions.

We are all accustomed to the fact that foreign manufacturer building materials guarantees the supply of quality products. However, there are also domestic developments that are unique, have a number of advantages and are worthy competitors to foreign analogues. This is a composite material called ceramoplast.

The properties declared by the manufacturer, and especially the 30-year life without loss of performance, have yet to be fully verified - the production of ceramoplast began in Russia in 2000.

Over the years, there have already been certain results - the innovative product has performed well, earning many positive consumers. Experts highly appreciate its prospects.

Scope of application composite material due to excellent physical and mechanical properties, it is quite wide - this is the cladding of buildings for various purposes, the installation of fences, use as roofing industrial facilities, residential buildings - including in regions with high humidity, containing large quantity salt in the air.

This multi-component material is based on clay. In it, synthetic substances that are harmless to humans are combined with organic components - natural minerals.

What does ceramic plastic look like?

Keramoplast is produced in the form wavy sheets and tiles.

Parameters of wavy sheets:

  • length: 2000 and 1700 mm;
  • width: 900 and 870 mm;
  • thickness: 3 and 4.5 mm.

Tile parameters:

  • length: 870 and 900 mm;
  • width: 560 and 500 mm;
  • thickness: 4 and 4.5 mm.

The texture of sheets and tiles is:

  • smooth;
  • rough.

You can choose almost any color. Ceramic components are supplemented with coloring pigments and high-molecular polymers, which allows the inclusion of fluorescents or other additives - so-called special effects - to improve artistic and decorative properties.

Roofing materials are selected according to basic criteria, such as durability, wear resistance, ability to withstand atmospheric influences, complexity of installation and other equally important ones. Let's look at ceramic plastic in this section.

Arguments for:

  • ceramic plastic is durable. At the same time, it does not require repair for decades;
  • not subject to corrosion;
  • weather-resistant - will withstand all the vicissitudes of the weather, does not absorb water at all;
  • easy to process, bends well. This quality is widely used in the embodiment of designers’ ideas - ceramic plastic can be easily given any shape;
  • lightweight - gives several times less load than the same slate;
  • installation possible at any time of the year;
  • does not require special care: dirt is washed off with rainwater;
  • strength characteristics allow you to maintain all properties under extreme wind and loads;
  • does not rot, does not become covered with fungus;
  • has excellent sound-proofing and heat-insulating qualities;
  • does not fade or fade in the sun;
  • it can be used repeatedly;
  • easy installation. Light weight, simple fastening technology - even a novice in the roofing business can handle the installation;
  • price. Given the available qualities, ceramoplast has a very affordable price.

Arguments against:

  • fire hazard. Under certain conditions, the material ignites and spreads fire, so when arranging the roof, special attention should be paid to the chimney outlets;
  • its appearance is similar to glossy, which is often reproached by manufacturers who have failed to come up with a more interesting design, than the rather boring wave one.

Some reviews mention that after a year of use the surface fades in the sun and loses its original color saturation. In this case, we are undoubtedly talking about fakes, which, unfortunately, are offered on the market building materials a lot.

Ceramoplast is painted throughout its entire thickness, and is not applied in a thin layer to the surface of the material, so it does not fade in the sun, and there is no need to paint over small scratches on it.

Included with corrugated sheets Usually there are mounting nails and protective caps for them. If it can be visually determined that the parts different sizes, forms, have obvious shortcomings, it may be a fake - in this case, you need to check with the seller for all certificates.
