Paint for the balcony inside. Painting the inside of a balcony: what to consider and what paint to choose? Painting a balcony trimmed with metal sheets

Hide

Painting a balcony is a tricky business. How to accomplish it with the greatest efficiency? Read our tips and get a brush in your hands! And even better - a spray gun (paint sprayer).

It is necessary to distinguish between painting the balcony outside and inside. They are presented different requirements. Exterior painting must be resistant to temperature changes, moisture, and other weather influences.

The difference between external and internal painting of a balcony

Applying paint using a roller

Interior painting should, first of all, ensure a comfortable stay in the painted room and mask flaws in the finishing work.

As a rule, on external cladding balconies are now either , or . These materials received a finishing color during the manufacturing process.

But in some cases they need additional coloring. For example, in case of damage polymer coating profiled sheet.

Selecting paint and primer

depends on the material you are going to paint

Painting of corrugated sheets

Applying paint to corrugated sheets

In this case, it is better to remove the panels and paint them indoors.

Before painting the profiled sheet, you need to carry out basic preliminary preparation. Clean off the rust with sandpaper, remove oil stains with a solvent, putty on the scratches and apply a primer (a primer is a layer of a special coating: drying oil, alkyd or epoxy resins, improving the adhesion of the painted material and paint).

The best varnishes for painting metal are: alkyd, acrylic, epoxy, polyurethane. The coating is best applied using a sprayer.

Painting PVC panels

Painting PVC panels

Special compounds are used to paint plastic panels. For example, acrylic paints from the Galamix series. They are wear-resistant, do not get dirty, and do not degrade under the influence of ultraviolet radiation.

Like any material, PVC boards need to be prepared for painting. But, as a rule, it is enough to simply degrease with alcohol.

It must be remembered that painting usually makes PVC panels darker than their original color. This does not benefit them: dark color It “absorbs” the sun’s rays better; the plastic underneath overheats, which leads to a reduction in its service life.

Painting chipboard

How to paint a chipboard floor

But perhaps you inherited a balcony framed with chipboard slabs from the Khrushchev era? Or are you the owner of a loggia fenced with brickwork or a concrete parapet? It is unlikely that we will report anything new about painting chipboards.

The process is well known: stripping, including removing old paint, degreasing, priming, filling defects with putty. The so-called “bumper” primer is excellent - with which motorists prime the bumpers of their cars.

Paint – acrylic or oil is best. Apply using a sprayer, brush or roller. At least two layers.

Painting brickwork

How to paint brick

Painting brick walls and parapets requires more careful preparation: dirt, mortar deposits are removed with a spatula and a metal brush, and the seams between the bricks are puttied. If mold has grown anywhere on the masonry, then this area must be treated with an alkaline solution.

An antibacterial acrylic emulsion should be used as a primer.

Water-based paint should be used for exterior use. Oil paints are not recommended. They create a dense crust through which the brick stops “breathing,” which leads to its gradual destruction and increased moisture and vapor permeability.

Water-based paints are available only in white. To give them any other color you need, they need to be tinted. Colors – special additives to give the emulsion a particular color. They are sold in the store; you can choose the shade you need using a color chart or ask the seller to select one for you.

The color is added to the liquid paint and mixed thoroughly: for this purpose, an electric drill with a paddle attachment is perfect. But you can just do it manually: water-based paints absolutely non-toxic.

Painting on concrete

Fundamentally, painting a concrete parapet is not much different, but in this case it is better to use paints on a plastic or silicate base.

Painting a concrete floor

And, most importantly, we must remember that external painting of balconies is usually a collective matter. Supervisory and architectural authorities do not like it when balconies apartment building painted with “spots” in different colors.

Therefore, the decision on the choice of facing material and the type of subsequent painting, as a rule, is made by a meeting of residents, and personal desires to distinguish themselves in any way should be restrained.

This is where your imagination can go wild, when painting the inside of the balcony. Here the choice depends primarily on whether your balcony (loggia) is combined with a room or not.

If combined, then the principle is not simple, but clear: all “finishing” work should be aimed at ensuring that the balcony combined with the room is in maximum harmony with its interior design. If the balcony is not combined with the room, then the limits of your imagination will be limited functional features those materials that you have already used to cover the inside of a balcony or loggia.

Painting plywood sheathing

Painting plywood sheathing

Most often, surfaces sheathed with plywood are painted on a balcony or loggia. In fact, this is a necessary measure: the material looks painfully unpresentable. However, the technology of painting it is not as simple as it might seem.

Let's turn to such a well-known expert in interior painting of balconies as. After parting with the role of the son of Lieutenant Schmidt, he long years made money on fertile soil painting work and even achieved the high title of “Putter and painter of balcony profiles of the first category” at the exhibition of achievements of the national economy in 1967:

Alexander Balaganov in his mature years

First of all, you need to decide whether you will preserve the natural pattern of the plywood or not,” Alexander Mikhailovich immediately sums up. - In the first case, you will need a special varnish or paint that does not hide the structure of the wood.

In the second, you can use any paint, preferably water-based. But a primer with antiseptic properties is first applied, and the entire surface is sanded with fine-grained abrasive sandpaper.

- What kind of antiseptic primer is this?

Typically these are acrylic-based water-emulsion compositions. For example, Northex soil. Moreover, it is better to paint and prime the plywood on the balcony from both sides - not only the front, but also the back. And not in one layer. This will help preserve the material in case of high humidity.

The usual tool for this is a brush or roller, but I prefer to use a spray: it’s faster and the color is more even.

- It is no coincidence that Mikhail Samuelevech so persistently advised you: “Get dusty, Shura, dusty!”

It happened. But listen to me carefully!

Contender No. 2 for painting from balcony facing materials -. If only because its cladding looks rather monotonous, like a corridor in a local hospital. And the joints between the sheets are clearly visible.

Painting drywall

Applying paint to drywall

The difficulty is that drywall is very sensitive to moisture. Accordingly, it is necessary to select painting materials. So, polymer mixtures are best suited for putty. Good also cement putties, but gypsum ones are not suitable in this case.

Carefully putty the joints of the drywall sheets and the heads of the mounting screws. This is especially important because in these places the gypsum “filling” of the sheet can come out, including in the form of dust. You cannot paint on a dusty surface.

Personally, today I use UNIFLOT composition made in Germany for puttying joints. It reliably protects all exposed plaster surfaces. But since it shrinks a lot, after it dries, I go through the seams again with a more elastic putty VETONIT - LR+ (often called “betonite” in the Russian Federation), and then once again I wipe all the seams on top with fine-grained abrasive paper.

If you see that the top sheet of cardboard has separated from the inner gypsum layer, cut it off completely sharp knife cardboard in the defective area, wipe with abrasive sandpaper and putty this area.

When puttingtying seams, try to ensure that there are no “smudges” or other “snot” left on the visible surface: it will be very difficult to remove them with sandpaper or even a rasp, and any more powerful tool such as a grinder with an abrasive wheel will easily cripple the plasterboard sheet itself .

For priming, do not use alkyd mixtures: underneath them the drywall will swell and the outer sheet of cardboard will peel off. It is better to use water-soluble types of primer.

How to stick serpyanka

Another option is to cover the drywall sheathing entirely with fiberglass scrim. It is also called “cobweb”.

As a rule, a cloth with a thickness of 0.3 mm is sufficient, but if you have a rough surface or cracks, then you need to take a cloth with a thickness of 0.5 mm. The “cobweb” sticker will allow you not only to mask existing defects, but also to hide future ones: for example, cracks that appear when the house shrinks.

But first you must remember to prime the skin. Oscar primer is best suited for fiberglass.

Fiberglass is glued in the same way as wallpaper, but the glue is applied not to the canvas, but to the wall. I use special glue“Wellton”, but in its absence you can also use regular PVA. Fiberglass sheets can be glued either end-to-end or overlapping. This may be necessary if, for example, the edges of the panel are damaged. In the latter case, do not press the 3-4 cm wide strips too tightly along the edges of the sheets to be glued.

After the main part of the panel is glued, run along and in the middle of these unglued strips with a sharp knife and separate the “overlapping” areas from the base. You will get a “butt” joint, which you need to carefully go over with a spatula so that it is leveled and glued to the base.

This is what fiberglass canvas looks like

The cracks between the fiberglass sheets should also be puttied, after which paint can already be applied.

For painting, it is best to choose water-based compositions. They are sold exclusively in white, but by adding color you can give your coating any color.

Do not forget that when drying, water-based coatings lighten somewhat. In addition, the paint can be either matte or glossy. The differences between them are fundamental: matte hides defects in the painted surface, glossy, on the contrary, reveals them. But if your soul is for glamor, you will have to suffer, leveling out the slightest fluff and hairs on the upholstery!

Apply the paint with a roller in two or three layers. Moreover, the first layer is done with horizontal movements of the roller, the second layer is done with vertical movements. If you apply the third layer, then again with horizontal movements of the roller. It is not necessary to wait until each layer of paint is completely dry: water-based emulsion can be applied on wet surfaces.

You can paint drywall with both oil paint and enamels. But they are rarely used and only after very careful priming. - And when painting plywood, you can use “cobweb”? - Absolutely right! It should be used wherever possible. It only improves the quality of the coating!

Painting the lining

Painting lining

The next balcony candidate for painting is. True, the lining itself has a texture that is pleasant to the eye, and there seems to be no need to paint it. But applying an antiseptic primer and varnishing is an almost necessary condition. Especially if you used lower grade lining.

In this case, adding tinting additives to the varnish will allow you to improve the appearance of the wood. For example, create the impression that you have lined your balcony with dark bog oak. Or “bleached” wood.

Managers in construction supermarkets will be happy to help you choose the right additive (“color”) for this purpose and tell you how to prepare the mixture.

-We talked in sufficient detail on our website about finishing the balcony from the inside with clapboard. However, we also ask you: what varnishes do you recommend for painting the lining on the balcony?

I use scuba tanks “Tikkurila Panneli Assa”, “Teknos Natura”, “Commander Tobago”. But they are not suitable for covering the floor if you made it from lining. In this case, it is necessary to use more durable alkyd varnishes: “Teknos Helo” and “Tikkurila Unica Super”. This is the difference between painting the floor and walls on the balcony.

- And the ceiling?

For the ceiling you can use the same varnishes as for the walls. But if you made the outer cladding of the balcony from lining, then it is better to use Teknos Futura 40, Teknos Woodex Aqua Solid, Tikkurila Vinha, Tikkurila PikaTeho. Or pearl paint-glaze “Tikkurila Valtti Arctic”.

Yes, by the way, it is better to treat the railings with Tikkurila Valtti Non-Slip anti-slip oil. I will give the same tips if you want to paint completely wooden balcony- you know, there are such things near old houses, cottages...

- Alexander, we are not on courses foreign languages! Tell me better, what kind of paint should be used to paint a completely crappy, knotty lining so that nothing defective is visible?

Take any oil. Fill all the cracks and plug any fallen knots with plugs. Clean off rot and mold with a knife and sandpaper. Remove wood “lint” with abrasive sandpaper. Prime with an antiseptic compound. Apply paint in three or four layers with a brush, without skimping.

Just don't use very bright or dark paint. Otherwise it will quickly fade and lose its attractiveness.

Oh, by the way, I almost forgot: different types of paints (acrylic, oil, water-based) do not combine well with each other. If, for example, you decide to apply water-based paint to a panel that was previously covered with oil paint, then remove the old paint down to the wood - otherwise the new one won’t stick!

-Is painting euro lining different from painting lining?

Actually, we were talking about painting eurolining. Domestic lining has high humidity and must be dried. Let's say, wait for the summer season, or even two seasons, and only then paint! But, of course, during the drying period it must be soaked in an antiseptic composition. The same Tikkurila.

Painting the facade walls adjacent to the balcony

- When painting a balcony, another nuance arises. As a rule, the facade wall of the house adjacent to it - brick or panel - is not finished with anything during the cladding. But I would like to paint it so that it would look harmonious with the rest of the balcony...

Painting the walls adjacent to the balcony

The fundamental difference from painting external brick or concrete walls is one thing. Someone sees the exterior painting and long distance. You can see the inner one at close range. You live with her.

At the same time, paint will not hide any defect. Rather, it will reveal. Therefore, preparing the interior wall for painting requires special care.

Carefully putty all the seams, clean off with a spatula or an abrasive wheel all traces and splashes of solution from visible surfaces. Apply primer. And then apply the same fiberglass canvas that I recommended using when painting drywall.

By the way, you can pre-plaster a brick wall. But not necessarily: the “web” already provides good quality work.

Selection of balcony colors

General view of the painted balcony

Choose water-based or acrylic paint. By color - depending on the artistic intent. I just want to note that, as a rule, a balcony, especially if it faces north or is shaded big tree, the neighboring building, they try to paint it in bright hues: white, blue, pale green, steel. After all, this is the place where a person goes to receive that portion of “white light”, without which life is impossible.

If your balcony or loggia faces south and has sufficient lighting, then lovers of rich colors can use “heavier” paints: ocher, orange, scarlet, dark blue, the one that in the West is called “the color of Krupp metal.” These are the paints you can use to cover the facade of your house.

But for the rest of the balcony you should still use lighter colors. The fact is that panels, especially plastic ones, do not like overheating, and dark colors lead to heating of the material.

- Alexander! You didn’t say anything about painting panel slabs, and many readers live in panel buildings...

The technology is fundamentally the same. But, as a rule, the panel requires more thorough cleaning, especially in those places where there are traces of mold and mildew. Wipe them with an alkaline solution. If you're not too lazy, wash the entire part of the wall that will be painted.

Apply primer. Usually "Betonkontakt" is used. Fill dents and holes with ST 225 (this is plaster on cement based) or ST 127 (the same, but on a polymer base).

You can plaster the entire surface. Cut off protruding irregularities with a grinder and an emery wheel, and prime the “cuts.” In principle, you can already paint, but, as usual, I advise sticking a cobweb on the wall. Get a perfect (as much as possible in life) surface.

- Many people complain that paints take a long time to dry and smell terrible. How can you get rid of such side effects?

Balcony paint without odor

Strong-smelling and long-drying paints are a thing of the past,” answers Alexander. - These are oil paints, which are now almost never used in construction. In addition, if your balcony is not glazed, the smell will disappear well.

And if it is glazed, then you will have to close it for 24 hours while the paint dries and not go out on it. And then thoroughly ventilate for the same amount of time.

That is why painting with oil paints should be carried out only in the warm and dry season.

But now water-based paints are widely available. They dry in just an hour and a half.

If you can’t stand the smell at all, then use acrylic paints. They don't smell.

Painting some modern materials used for finishing the balcony

It's a pity, but painting modern species coatings - aluminum panels, Mr. Balaganov could not tell us due to his advanced years and lack of relevant production experience.

Painting MDF panels

Painting MDF panels

We would like to add that in many cases, MDF boards, for example, will be cheaper to replace than to paint. But, for those who are keen to do painting work, we will inform you that there are two ways to paint MDF panels: “wet” and “dry”.

"Wet", in general, is carried out according to standard scheme: surface cleaning, sanding with abrasive paper.

Since the degreasing compounds (solvents) usually used in construction are too aggressive for MDF, it is better to wipe (wash) the sheet with the most common dishwashing compound.

The primer should be chosen acrylic and applied using a pneumatic spray gun at good pressure - 3 atm. Allow to dry at temperatures above 30 degrees for 4-5 hours.

For painting, experts recommend using Italian-made paintwork “Milesi spa”. Apply also with a spray. Dry for 14 hours at temperatures up to 50 degrees and humidity not higher than 80%. Apply a second layer in the same way, and a third if necessary.

After painting, two layers of polyurethane varnish are applied to the panel. If the varnish has a “gloss effect”, then it should also be polished using special pastes.

"Dry" The method of painting MDF panels is that microparticles of paint are applied to the boards using a special sprayer, and then these microparticles are sintered at high temperature.

Taking into account the fact that when performing both the first and second methods of painting, the panels have to be dismantled (drying, and even more so sintering, must be carried out in a special chamber - it is unlikely that you will be able to heat the air on your balcony to 50 degrees for 28 hours), then indeed , it will be easier to buy and install new MDF boards in the color you need.

Painting aluminum panels

Painting aluminum panels is obviously easier than painting any other material.

Painting aluminum panels

The surface is degreased with any solvent, cleaned of dirt, and corroded areas are removed. Phosphogrunt is used as a primer, but if the panel is not affected by corrosion, you can immediately begin painting.

Painting is also currently done with an overlay (sticker) of “cobwebs”. But if decorative, figured plastering is used, the color of the material is obtained by adding color at the stage of preparing the mixture.

Prices for painting a balcony

From the table below you can find out how much it will cost you to paint your balcony with the hands of hired specialists. We must assume that the cost of their services will greatly depend on the quality of the surface being painted, on the paint that you suggest they use, and on other factors.

Below are the average prices for the Moscow region, taking into account tax payments. Work “by agreement” will cost 40 percent less.

The necessary painting inside the balcony room is a very important stage. finishing. Let's consider all the tips and recommendations for its successful implementation.

General requirements for paints

For different types of wall surfaces and paintable building materials Different paints are suitable for finishing. But when selecting a certain brand of paint for working on a balcony, the following are taken into account: General requirements To her:

  • The paint purchased must be intended for outdoor use and have an acceptable shelf life. The product must be certified and from a reputable, reliable manufacturer. At the first visual inspection after opening the container, there should be no clots or lumps in the paint.
  • The paint should not emit toxic harmful substances during operation and after drying. For a residential or frequently visited balcony, this condition is very important and mandatory.
  • It is advisable to select a material that is resistant to high humidity. This applies to cool and completely uninsulated balconies, where humidity levels depend on weather conditions and there is a high probability of condensation forming due to temperature changes.
  • The UV resistance of the paint will allow surfaces to retain their attractive appearance longer and not fade when periodically exposed to direct sunlight.
  • PVC frame structures are usually used to glaze the balcony and window openings facing it. When selecting a composition for painting, take into account the possibility of its easy removal in case of accidental contact with the frames without damage. Paint removers should also not be aggressive to the surface of PVC profiles.
  • To paint house walls facing the balcony, it is advisable to use vapor-permeable, “breathable” materials. As a result, the walls will no longer become saturated with moisture and become damp.

Features of painting various surfaces

Preparing for painting, choosing a paint and varnish material and performing the main work have their own rules and nuances for different types of surfaces (internal and external) of a balcony room. Let's look at the procedure for dealing with the most common surfaces.

  1. Profiled sheet

This material is lined with outer side parapet and sidewalls of the balcony. Profiled sheets are sold already painted. Repainting is required for used material that has signs of corrosion, scratches, or if you decide to change the color. For convenience and quality work the sheets are pre-dismantled. Preparation includes: removing rust with sandpaper; cleaning the surface with a solvent from dirt and oil stains; filling visible dents and scratches; primer after the putty has dried. Now we paint the surface using a spray gun. A brush will help in awkward places. Recommended material for metal surfaces– varnish with a polyurethane, epoxy, alkyd or acrylic base.

  1. PVC panels

Preliminary preparation of plastic panels for painting is very simple. All surfaces are washed from dirt and degreased with alcohol or solvent (selected chemical composition, which is harmless to plastic). For painting, acrylic paints and aqualac are most appropriate. Without fading in the sun, they are durable and easy to care for. Should not be used on sunny side balconies. dark colors. When heated, painted panels can become deformed and partially lose their performance properties.

  1. Chipboards

For a previously painted product, if there are cracks and peeling, the old paint layer will need to be removed. A special wash will help with this, construction hair dryer, sander or sandpaper. It is enough to sand a high-quality old coating with fine-grained sandpaper. The next step is cleaning from dirt, dust and degreasing with a solvent that does not leave a slippery residual film (acetone, white spirit). Now it’s time to apply two layers of deep-penetrating primer. After it has completely dried, they begin painting.

Recommended paints: acrylic, oil. Acrylics are non-toxic, dry quickly, have excellent adhesion to various materials, can be decorative effect(fluorescent, pearlescent, metallic colors and others), available in aerosol cans. Oil coatings are a good protection for chipboards from moisture. Their disadvantages are the lack of vapor permeability; when dried, they have a strong bad smell(before drying, the balcony room must be ventilated, and the entrance to the apartment and the window must be kept closed).

After the paint has dried, it is recommended to apply a layer of varnish to the surface of the chipboard (2 layers are possible). The varnished board will now have a richer and deeper color. The varnish coating also provides additional protection against wear.

  1. Brick wall

We begin preparing the surface by removing dirt and deposits. masonry mortar. It is convenient to do this with a metal brush and a spatula. For accuracy, masonry joints can be additionally puttied. If it remains on the walls old paint- it is completely removed grinder, coarse sandpaper or wire brush. You should also check the brick wall for fungus or mold damage. If the inspection result is positive, you will need to clean the affected areas and treat the entire wall with a special impregnation.

We prime the brick wall - then apply paint
  1. Concrete wall

Preparing the surface for work includes all the preparatory steps, as before painting a brick wall. The only difference is in the recommended paints for the base coat. For concrete surfaces of walls and parapets, the most suitable paints are those made on a silicate and plastic basis. Exterior painting should be done in suitable weather (dry, not very sunny).

  1. Wooden lining

Such a surface requires very careful preparation. The tree needs to be protected from fungus and insects, and made a less fire hazardous material. For this purpose, special impregnations with antiseptics and fire retardants are used. All noticeable defects are smoothed out with a special wood putty, and rough spots are cleaned and polished with sandpaper.

For painting you can choose:

  • Acrylate paints. The resulting coating is elastic, waterproof, does not crack, is resistant to precipitation and temperature fluctuations, does not fade from bright sunlight, and retains its shine and original color for a long time.
  • Oil paints are a durable, cheaper, water-repellent material. Over time, they fade, and the painting and drying process is accompanied by a strong toxic odor.
  • Acrylic scuba tanks are safe, non-toxic, vapor-permeable, non-flammable materials.
  • Alkyd varnishes are resistant to mechanical stress, penetrate deeply and emphasize the natural structure of wood. Disadvantages - they take a long time to dry with the release of a strong odor, and have low wear resistance.
  1. Drywall

The joints of plasterboard sheets and fastening points are sealed with polymer putties. Prime with water-soluble compounds. Paint drywall with water-based paint in at least 2 layers.

  • If the walls of the balcony room are not monochromatic, try to combine up to three different color shades at the same time. Black and white colors are not taken into account.
  • Paints of dark shades and tones are not suitable for balconies and loggias on the sunny side. Dark walls, absorbing solar energy, will quickly heat up. If the air temperature at this time is significantly lower than the heated wall, then there is a high probability of condensation.
  • For exterior painting of the balcony, choose colors that match the facade of the building.
  • Weather also affects the quality of painting work. In case of rain or high humidity, the paint takes a very long time and does not dry evenly. Raindrops on fresh paint outside balcony can ruin the appearance and mood of the owners of the balcony. In hot weather, the paint sets very quickly and does not have time to spread evenly over the surface.
  • It is advisable to tint the primer for the main paint to match the color of the topcoat. After such preparation, areas with a thinner layer of paint will not stand out.
  • In the process of painting various areas It is convenient to paint surfaces with different tools. Therefore, it doesn’t hurt to have rollers, a spray bottle and brushes of different sizes on hand.
  • Before work, you need to make sure that the color or tone of the paint corresponds to the idea of end result. To do this, paint is applied to a small area of the surface. When it dries, you can make a final conclusion about compliance.
  • The quality of the painting is indicated by the uniformity of color on the painted surface. This is not difficult to achieve. To ensure that the consistency of the working material is uniform and that dye particles do not settle to the bottom of the container over time, the paint must be thoroughly mixed not only before application, but also periodically during operation.
  • It is recommended to purchase the necessary paint, primer and varnish from one manufacturer. Such materials are fully compatible, which will have a positive effect on the quality of painting work.
  • Don't forget to use covering film and masking tape to protect adjacent surfaces that will not be painted.
  • When painting brick and concrete walls, it is better not to use oil-based paints. Not being a vapor-permeable material, they cause unwanted moisture accumulation. The result of high humidity is damage to the wall material by microorganisms and its premature destruction.
  • The ends of wooden lining require very careful treatment with preparatory compounds and paint.

The right choice of paint, quality training surfaces for work and careful painting will allow you to forget about updating the walls of the balcony for a long time. All that remains is to switch to other things. You can now relax on the balcony rather than work.

The balcony is an integral part of a residential apartment, so when carrying out renovations it is impossible not to pay attention to it interior decoration. From the point of view of functionality and ease of execution, the most suitable type of interior design for a balcony is painting its walls and ceiling using compositions for exterior work.
At the same time, you should know that you can paint not only bare walls, but also elements interior decoration, if they are already installed, but for some reason their color does not suit the apartment owners, for example, plastic panels, wooden lining, etc.

Painting the balcony

In order to help the reader understand the issue of interior decoration, this article will talk about how to paint the inside of a balcony using available paints and varnishes.

In addition, detailed selection instructions will be provided here suitable paint for decorating the inside of the balcony, depending on the material from which its walls are made.

Paint selection
When purchasing paints and varnishes, you should keep in mind that even a glazed and insulated balcony is located outside the room, so its microclimate has certain characteristics. Unlike an apartment, it is characterized high humidity and significant fluctuations in average annual and average daily temperatures, so any paint for interior decoration of a balcony should be intended for exterior use.

Among the most common paints for household use that meet these requirements, some main types can be distinguished:
1. Water-based acrylic emulsion compositions, after drying, form a durable protective film on the surface that resists moisture, high and low temperatures, and is also resistant to solar radiation. It is distinguished by a wide range of color shades, good vapor permeability, short drying time, and a complete absence of odor and toxic substances.
2. Paints based on latex and silicone resins have similar properties, but have low vapor permeability, but at the same time have increased stability resistant to moisture and can repel different kinds pollution. Well suited for both natural and artificial materials.
3. Oil enamels made on the basis organic solvents, have good covering ability, high adhesion, after drying they form a moisture-resistant protective film on the surface that is well resistant to atmospheric factors. Negative qualities Such compositions are characterized by a rather high price, a long drying time, as well as a strong unpleasant odor of organic solvents during operation.
4. Enamels and oil-based paints are also highly resistant, but after drying protective film practically incapable of passing steam, so they are not recommended for use on surfaces made of mineral materials(, concrete, plaster mortar).

Advice!
When choosing paints and varnishes, you should also pay attention to the frost resistance of the coating and the resistance of the paints to ultraviolet radiation.

Finishing raw walls

Most often, the walls of the balcony can be made of reinforced concrete or brick. In such cases, the most suitable for DIY interior finishing will be water-based emulsion or dispersion compositions.

Applying paint to a wall is the most budget option carrying out major or preventive repairs of the premises. However, you should not assume that if an option is inexpensive, it will ultimately turn out ugly or of poor quality. Modern market provides the consumer with a huge selection of paints of all colors and shades, made on any basis and suitable for use in any climatic conditions.

Another advantage of painting walls is the simplicity of this repair, it is not very messy, and the result depends only on the flight of your imagination. The main advantage is that they are very easy to use - if you carry out the preparatory work correctly and do not skimp on building materials, then the finished wall will serve you for many years without requiring preventive intervention. Painted surfaces are easy to clean with soapy water and a soft cloth and dry quickly. High-quality paint does not fade and will delight your eye for a long time.

Introduction

Preparatory and painting work should be carried out in well-ventilated areas to reduce Negative influence on your health and the health of your loved ones to a minimum. Do not allow children and animals into the work area, but use them yourself protective clothing– gloves, respirator and plastic goggles. Keep in mind that if paint gets on the fabric of your clothing, it most likely will not wash off, so use clothes that you won’t mind throwing away.

Surface preparation

Before applying paint, its surface must be carefully prepared. The preparation technology will be presented below working area and carrying out repair or maintenance work.

If you are carrying out maintenance work, then the floor near the workplace should be covered with old newspapers. This will ensure that excess building materials do not reach the clean surface, saving you unnecessary work and additional restoration costs. You can use masking film to cover the remaining walls and ceiling if work will be carried out on only one wall.

The first stage includes a thorough examination for damage that could appear during its operation or over time, defects that could appear during its construction and plastering. To best identify all the unpleasant nuances, the wall must be thoroughly washed with a special pressure washing machine before doing this. If you don't have a machine, soapy water and a stiff brush will do. With its help, all cracks clogged with dust will open, which will then need to be repaired.

Prevention of defects on walls indoors is carried out with gypsum plaster without the addition of cement; if work is carried out outside, then for this you need to use a liquid sand-cement mortar (it has significantly higher performance characteristics). Rubbing of defects is carried out with a trowel or spatula suitable size or a soft building brush. The leveling takes place flush with the wall so that there are no protrusions that in the future will disrupt the aesthetics of the last layer.

There are cases when the wall is very old or built with significant deviations in technology. During operation, very deep defects could appear on it that cannot be eliminated by carrying out preventive maintenance. In this case, it is advisable to completely cover with a layer of plaster. To do this, a reinforcing mesh (polymer or metal) is attached. It can be fixed with dowels, fixative glue or the same solution that you will use to plaster. This will allow the plaster to hide all the flaws of the concrete wall.

Moisture insulation

After your wall is smooth and without damage, you need to make sure it is insulated from moisture. If it is not protected from water or steam, the coating may soon deteriorate. To do this, it should be sealed as tightly as possible with thin plastic film for one day. If the wall “breathes” moisture, then condensation will soon form under it. It is not suitable for further finishing, but requires the application of an additional insulating layer.

They can use an ordinary concrete sealant, which is available in a wide range in modern construction stores. It is advisable to apply at least two layers, each applied on top of the well-dried previous one. This will prevent moisture from penetrating into the room and spoiling the decor. After the sealant has dried for a day, the wall is completely ready for subsequent paint.

Painting

How to paint the walls, for example, on the balcony? For indoor work, you can use paint that performs only decorative functions. It is not required to have high performance or insulating properties; it should only fit well on the prepared surface. If the work will be carried out on external walls, then it is recommended to use acrylic-based paints or oil-based options (it is advisable to apply the latter to places where direct sunlight will not fall sunlight, otherwise they will quickly lose their original shade).

You can apply paint to a large area with a roller or pneumatic sprayer, but hard-to-reach places - near the floor, in corners and under the ceiling - it is still recommended to use a brush. This will allow you to avoid gaps in the continuous layer of paint and more thoroughly paint all the places where it is difficult to reach with a roller. For the most durable structure, you can use paint sealant as the last layer. It will allow the paint to adhere more firmly to the surface, increasing its strength and wear resistance.

Conclusion

Painting concrete walls has a number of undeniable advantages over other finishing methods. It is comparatively cheaper, simpler, if painted correctly, they will last you a very long time, they are easy to care for, repairs take place quite quickly - it will only take a few days for all the layers to dry. It will take many years before preventive maintenance can begin. The cosmetic intervention itself will be minimal - clean up the exfoliated areas and repaint them.

Even good paint can be much cheaper than other finishing methods. You also need a little of it - based on the pre-measured area, and by finding a container with the specified flow rate, you will reduce costs to a minimum.

How to choose paint for a balcony?

Of course, before painting the balcony, you need to choose the right paint composition, taking into account all the factors and nuances. The balcony room, despite the fact that it is located on the outside of the house, is legally considered an area inside the apartment, so when choosing paint and varnish materials, it is necessary to take into account that the room will be often used by people.

The paint must be environmentally friendly, practical and safe.

The following factors need to be taken into account:

  1. On balconies it is almost always marked increased level humidity, so it is best to give preference to moisture-resistant types of paints.
  2. The problem of ultraviolet radiation is especially acute on the southern sides of buildings. But even if your balcony is located in the north, ultraviolet radiation will still have an impact negative impact on paint, so you need to choose those compositions that are resistant to it.
  3. You need to make sure that the paint is wiped off well with a damp cloth or solvent from other surfaces, because during the work some drops will in any case fall on the window or frame.
  4. An excellent option for interior painting of a balcony are vapor-permeable paint compositions that do not allow condensation to accumulate on the walls, which leads to the formation of mold.

What color should I paint the balcony?

Many people encounter certain difficulties in this case, because they have no idea what color they can paint their balcony. If the loggia or balcony is located on the sunny side, then it is best to choose a lighter color for painting, because dark shades will absorb sunlight, as a result of which the surface will heat up significantly during the daytime, which will negatively affect the wall material and microclimate.

The basic principle is as follows: sunny side - choose cool colors, dark side - choose warm colors.

The palette of possible colors is simply huge.

Here the choice of shade will largely depend on personal preferences, style solution balcony room or room connected to the balcony. If it was decided to use several paints, then it is recommended to paint the room using no more than three colors. If you plan to paint the outer part of the balcony, then it is highly desirable that its color completely matches the color of the building’s facade.

Features of painting various materials on the balcony

The choice of paint will largely depend on what materials the balcony is made of or what its surfaces are lined with. Let's highlight the most common cases:

  • Brick. Before painting brick and brick walls, the surface must be carefully and properly prepared. To begin with, use a spatula and a metal brush to remove all dirt and defects from the surface (irregularities, potholes, mortar residues). To give the surface an attractive appearance, the seams can be additionally treated with putty. Brick also needs to be treated with antiseptic compounds. If the brick already contains traces of mold or mildew, then all detected areas must be covered with a suitable alkaline solution. Upon completion of the preparatory work, it is necessary to prime the surface using acrylic emulsion. It is best to paint brick using water-based paint designed for outdoor use. Oil-based paints are not recommended for use on poorly insulated balconies, because they do not have sufficient vapor-permeable characteristics and can cause condensation. Water-based paints are always white, and the required shade is given to them using tints. Brick can be easily treated with water-based paint without worrying about its safety, because such compositions are completely non-toxic.

  • Concrete base. concrete wall it needs to be prepared in the same way as a brick: we clean it of the old paint, remove dirt, and level it with putty. Silicate or plastic paints are perfect for concrete. When painting the exterior surfaces of a balcony, you need to choose the same color as the wall of the building, so as not to stand out too much from the rest, which often leads to negative consequences and complaints from neighbors. • Drywall. As a finishing material, plasterboard has a number of advantages: ease of installation, light weight, environmental friendliness, non-toxicity, creation of a perfectly flat wall surface. But the material absorbs moisture well, so you need to approach the choice of paint and varnish composition very responsibly or use moisture-resistant drywall for finishing. The wall can be treated before painting cement putty and prime. Experts note that water-based paints mixed with color are quite suitable for drywall. In addition, designers talk about the need to use matte shades of paint, because they are able to hide all the imperfections of the wall, while glossy compositions, on the contrary, will highlight them. Painting drywall can be done using a roller. The paint, regardless of what color was chosen, must be applied in several layers (the first layer must be applied horizontally, and the second - vertically).

Painting drywall is very simple, but puttying and sealing seams require certain skills. Video below.
