Reinforced vapor barrier. TechnoNIKOL brand vapor barriers TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier technical characteristics

Modern construction impossible to imagine without thermal insulation. Thermal insulation materials are increasingly used in the construction process. But even the highest quality insulation will not work effectively throughout its entire service life. TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier plays an important role in preventing the formation of moisture on the thermal insulation material.

Features and Benefits

TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier prevents the impact of steam on the roof. Due to its vapor and water resistance properties, it prevents the penetration of moisture into the structure. Thus, the vapor barrier regulates the temperature and water balance in a buiding. Its multilayer structure not only reliably protects the roof from condensation, but also prevents the accumulation of dirt and protects against noise. The main advantages of TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier include the following:

  • simple installation;
  • availability of material. Rolls can be purchased at any specialized store or ordered online;
  • reliability, strength and resistance to external factors: minimal risk of material deformation;

  • price corresponding to quality. Price for one square meter belongs to the average category of pricing policy;
  • high environmental friendliness of the film. The vapor barrier contains only those materials that do not form toxins and harmful components. As a result, vapor barrier materials are widely used - from public buildings to residential premises;
  • versatility. The material is used not only for roofing, but also to protect the surface of walls from condensation.

But there are also disadvantages of this material, such as:

  • strong tension of the film can lead to its destruction due to temperature changes;
  • Ready-made mastic can only be used when treating surfaces before laying or installing the final decorative finish. Otherwise, the film will allow air to pass through and also retain liquid.

Description

Vapor barrier material "TechnoNIKOL" is a perforated or membrane film. It is available in rolls. WITH outside The roll is marked with a gray line 12 cm from the edge, which guarantees vapor tightness. The material is absolutely safe for health and lasts for a long time. for long years and is not affected by environmental factors. Vapor barrier "TechnoNIKOL" has the following technical characteristics:

  • vapor permeable properties: from 1 to 5 g/m² x day;
  • material density: 80–120 g/m²;
  • withstand force in width and length: up to 180 N/5 cm;

  • resistance to ultraviolet rays: up to 3 months;
  • operating temperature: up to 70 degrees.

The technical characteristics of the film comply with all fire and explosion safety certificates since the film is non-flammable. Construction experts advise using TechnoNIKOL especially for flat roofs.

Since the vapor barrier has increased strength and resistance to moisture, as a result it can be used for wooden or metal roofs with roughness.

Varieties

TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier is classified depending on the type of roof. Vapor barriers for pitched roofs are available in several solutions:

  • Vapor barrier films have a three-layer structure, two layers are responsible for the reliability and strength of the material. They are made from laminated propylene fabric. The third layer is designed to control vapor permeability. These layers are connected to each other using cold welding. The notorious advantages of such films are considered to be increased strength and resistance to ultraviolet radiation. They can protect exposed rafters from snow and rain throughout the year.

There is another type of universal film - reinforced (a combination of perforated and non-perforated membranes), which is made from polyethylene. Due to such material properties as strength and vapor permeability, reinforced films have found wide application in construction.

Polyethylene has a loose structure and often has defects due to the presence of foreign components in the raw materials and dust ingress during production. To produce such a vapor barrier, special equipment is used.

  • Bag fabrics are made from polyethylene threads, which are laminated with a low-density polyethylene melt. Such a product does not have vapor barrier properties, since the polyethylene melt unevenly laminates the initially uneven base. But this does not prevent the use of bag fabrics when installing cold roofs as under-roof waterproofing.

  • Superdiffusive double-layer membranes perform several functions at once, which facilitates the construction process. The membrane is a polyvinyl chloride fabric with a built-in mesh, which serves as reinforcement. PVC imparts high strength and minimizes the risk of deformation during temperature changes. However, you need to be prepared for the fact that if the membrane is damaged, moisture will enter the room. This can be prevented by sealing the joints well and leaving a gap above the insulation to allow moisture to drain out on its own. Membrane films retain heat in the room and also create the necessary microclimatic conditions.

  • Foil vapor barrier has unique properties. It is practically not subject to deformation, even when tools fall. Foil film is also considered reflective. Thus, its properties are much better than other vapor barrier materials.

A striking example of foil self-adhesive water vapor barrier is considered "Vapor barrier". It is used for roofs with a load-bearing base using corrugated sheets. The main advantage of such a vapor barrier is its self-adhesive base. Since this will not only speed up the process of laying the material, but also during operation the roof will not be afraid of strong winds. We must not forget about the maintainability of the foil membrane. Workers can walk on the roof safely. During breaks in work, it can also serve as a temporary roof.

Vapor barriers for flat roofs are made by applying a bitumen polymer to a fiberglass or polyester backing. It is suitable for uninsulated roofs. Coating vapor barrier is also used to treat the surface of floors and walls. In this case, heated mastic is used.

Dimensions

The vapor barrier sheet for a flat roof has the following dimensions: 3x30 m and a thickness of 0.3, and for pitched roofs and walls - 1.5x50 m and a thickness of 0.15.

When planning the organization of roofing vapor barrier, it is worth considering the type of roof. Usually used for pitched type membrane materials, and for flat ones - perforated. Before purchasing, be sure to check the vapor barrier certificate. This is done in order to avoid purchasing a fake. Experts recommend using TechnoNIKOL thermal insulation if the roof is insulated with ordinary material that can absorb moisture.

It is worth adhering to a few basic installation rules vapor barrier material"TechnoNIKOL":

  • When using double-sided film, where one side is rough and the other is smooth, the film is laid on the insulation with a smooth surface. The other side of the film, when in contact with condensate, will allow it to evaporate unhindered. Otherwise, the smooth surface will only accumulate moisture. Its main function is to protect the surface by preventing the steam accumulated by the rough surface from passing through.

  • When working with polypropylene material They are also placed in one layer with the smooth surface inward.
  • When working with foil material, keep in mind that the foil must reflect the sun's rays. Therefore, such a film is laid with the foil facing out.
  • If it is necessary to lay insulation vertically, it is necessary to calculate that the joint coincides with the sheathing, otherwise the vapor barrier may tear, even if it is glued with tape.

All these rules can be applied in almost all cases, but each manufacturer makes some changes, so before installing a vapor barrier, you must read the instructions. At correct installation vapor barrier material can prevent the appearance of mold and mildew.

The installation method differs depending on which part of the room you need to install the vapor barrier film.

Roof vapor barrier

To properly install a vapor barrier film on the roof, you need to follow some recommendations. So, rolls with vapor barrier material are rolled out, starting from the top and pushing the next layer onto the previous one by 2–4 cm. For alignment individual parts tape is used to help seal the seams. Typically, aluminum tape or rubber tape are used as such tape. To vapor barrier an uninsulated roof, the material is attached to the sheathing horizontally.

Ceiling vapor barrier

When installing a ceiling vapor barrier, it is necessary to prepare the surface. To do this, wipe off the dust from the surface and leave it until completely dry. Then they move on to eliminating irregularities and grooves using a primer mixture and wait for it to dry. To avoid the appearance of uneven areas where moisture accumulates, a vapor barrier film must be stretched on the ceiling. To do this on ceiling beams The material is glued with tape. The film pieces are overlapped and the joints are sealed with tape. Nails are nailed along the joint line every 40 cm. Instead of nails, you can use a furniture stapler, which securely fixes the material to the surface.

Ceiling vapor barrier material is attached using slats together with insulation or separately. The slats are also screwed every 40 cm. Most often in construction stores you can find sheet films for the ceiling. To install them you need to purchase a special profile. In this case, a frame is attached to the ceiling, a vapor barrier sheet is installed, and then insulation is installed.

Reinforced vapor barrier produced by TechnoNIKOL is made of polyethylene high density and consists of three layers, which consist of a reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene strips and laminated on both sides. The mesh gives the material special strength, and lamination on both sides ensures proper vapor permeability. Thanks to the high-quality raw materials included in the product, the film has a long service life comparable to its service life roofing coverings. The material is not susceptible to rot, mold and small pests. Doesn't highlight harmful substances that have a detrimental effect on human health. Reinforced film protects roofing and other structures from heat loss and the adverse effects of wind. Protects against penetration of water vapor from interior space into the thermal insulation material, which significantly reduces the concentration of condensate in the thermal insulation layers of the object.

Purpose

Reinforced vapor barrier is used for roofing structures of inclined and flat roofs with any type of ventilation.

Advantages:

  • strength and reliability;
  • vapor permeability;
  • water resistance;

Wall vapor barrier

When installing vapor barrier material on walls, it is necessary to roll out the rolls, starting from the bottom, while the horizontal parts of the vapor barrier are secured with metal slats. In order for air to circulate in the room, it is necessary to take care of the ventilation hole. It is done between the vapor barrier material and interior decoration at a distance of 5 cm. It is important to follow this rule in all structures with increased level humidity and inconsistent heating.

To prevent water from getting inside, bottom part vapor barriers are located below the base level of the structure.

Floor vapor barrier

Before installation work, it should be treated wooden base: boards, beams and logs. The process is carried out with antiseptics, which protect the surface from rot, mold and fungi. If there is already a floor, then it should be dismantled. In this case, it is necessary to get rid of heat and vapor barrier materials that have become unusable. After which you need to clean all wooden elements with an antiseptic. Only after this can you proceed to laying a new vapor barrier.

Vapor barrier films - choosing a quality material

Vapor barrier is widely used in wooden house construction. Any vapor barrier films are attached to wooden structures before the insulating layer. For fixation, staples and a special stapler are most often used. Laying is done using butt or overlap methods, and adhesive tapes are used to seal the seam joints. Today there are several types of such films.

Types of vapor barrier films

The main requirement for vapor barrier films is the ability to transmit minimal steam, as well as maintain maximum strength during installation with no deformation changes.

Thermal reflective or foil film

This category of vapor barrier films not only protects against the accumulation of steam, but is also an excellent barrier that protects against thermal radiation. Standard heat-reflecting films are characterized by a combination of several functions at once and allow you to protect the structure from steam, having the highest quality thermal insulation properties and guaranteed to reflect heat into the room being equipped.

The use of material from the “three in one” category helps to significantly simplify all installation work and reduces the cost of consumables.

Standard types polyethylene films, used for vapor barrier. They are produced with reinforcement with special reinforcing meshes or fabrics, giving guaranteed strength.

They have certain advantages compared to polyethylene analogues, the main of which are higher strength and resistance to ultraviolet radiation. Polypropylene is capable of protecting structures from atmospheric precipitation for about twelve months while awaiting the installation of roofing materials.

To minimize the formation of condensation, one side of the reinforced polypropylene film is equipped with a special anti-condensation layer consisting of viscose fiber and cellulose. The main purpose of such a special layer is the ability to perform moisture-absorbing and moisture-retaining functions, followed by very quick drying under the influence of air flow.

Anti-condensation polypropylene films are placed with the main layer facing down, but creating a ventilation gap remains relevant. Moderate cost and good performance strength make this type of film very popular.

Manufacturers and technical characteristics of the material

Modern vapor barrier films on construction market Russia is represented by several manufacturers that produce fairly high-quality products.

Vapor barrier for flat roofing Techno NIKOL (3x30 m). - multilayer polyethylene film

Vapor barrier films provide moisture resistance for many years and are divided into diffusion and non-perforated.

Diffusion "breathing" membranes are the best option under-roof insulating materials consisting of a continuous polymer film with two layers of polypropylene fabric.

Non-perforated type of films designed to protect any space not only from moisture, but also from dust deposits. During the production process, reinforcement is used using a special mesh or fabric, which gives additional strength. Most often used for vapor barrier work during roof installation.

Roll materials are easy to install and connect.

In addition to a wide range, the manufacturer guarantees a reliable thermal insulation barrier and protection against wetting and weathering. Main options:

  • vapor-permeable membranes are durable, dense and UV-resistant;
  • propylene two-layer membranes;
  • propylene laminated with film.
  • Izospan-V film - vapor protection for pitched roofs or attic floors;
  • Izospan-D film - laminated propylene for non-insulated roof types;
  • Izospan-DM film - propylene with one-sided anti-condensation coating, resistant to any mechanical stress.

Yutafol vapor barrier films are used as thermal insulation and hydro-protection.

The brands N, SP1, NAL Special and D are produced.

The main application is the installation of a vapor barrier in conditions of ventilated inclined roofs, as well as when arranging the roof with soft tiles. When performing seam sealing of this roll material applies special type construction tape.

How to choose the best

The choice of vapor barrier is based on an assessment of the functional properties of the material. The diffusion type of membranes is one of the universal modern materials that can be used in any type of roofing structure and in combination with all methods of insulation. This vapor barrier is several times more expensive than other types of waterproofing films.

The installation of waterproofing on non-insulated roofs allows the use of ordinary universal or perforated film from proven and well-established manufacturers.

When installing pitched metal roofs, it is advisable to use anti-condensation films.

Material cost

The most significant criterion for choosing a film for vapor barrier is price.

The cost of TechnoNIKOL films starts from 3,000 rubles per roll. Vapor barrier films from TechnoNikol for the installation of pitched roofs cost about 1,150 rubles per roll, and the price of reinforced materials averages 1,875 rubles per roll. Materials for vapor barrier of flat roofs - from 1697 rubles per roll.

Vapor barrier Izospan has a competitive price. The cost depends entirely on the brand of vapor barrier material. The price of Izospan-B is several times lower than the cost of heat-reflecting Izospan-FX. High price thermal insulation from this manufacturer is due to its stable durability and excellent performance characteristics.

The best option is to use vapor barrier films from Yutafol, the cost of which starts from 1,500 rubles per roll.

  • The roll of material is rolled out perpendicularly rafter system in the direction from bottom to top;
  • the standard overlap is from fifteen to twenty centimeters;
  • To seal the joints, special tape or connecting tape is used.

Technonikol vapor barrier film is made from high-quality polymers and has a multi-layer structure, thanks to which optimal vapor permeability and high strength are achieved.

Important! Before installing the film, carefully study the “Roof Installation and Design Guide” issued by the manufacturer. Follow the instructions strictly and do not use the material for other purposes.

The Technonikol company produces several types of vapor barrier:

  • for pitched roofs, with the ability to partially transmit steam;
  • for flat roofs, having high strength and elasticity;
  • reinforced, reinforced three-layer film of high strength;
  • universal, suitable for all types of roofs.

Vapor barrier OPTIMA

The peculiarity of this material is excellent vapor permeability and at the same time a high vapor barrier. This is possible thanks to a three-layer membrane, in which the top and bottom layers are made of non-woven polypropylene, and the middle one is a vapor-permeable film. The combination of OPTIMA material with fiber insulation ensures the temperature and humidity in the room as close as possible to log house, creating comfortable conditions for year-round use.

Technical characteristics of OPTIMA vapor barrier:

  • tensile load along the length and width – 160 and 120 N/5 cm;
  • vapor permeability – 5 Gy/(m/day);
  • thickness – 0.3;
  • water resistance – >2 m water. pillar;
  • operation at temperatures from -40 to +85 degrees;
  • high resistance to UV rays.

OPTIMA is universal material and is used for installing a vapor barrier layer in insulated attics, sloping roofs without insulation, ceilings, external walls with a multilayer structure (ventilated facade), as well as for walls with internal insulation of any type. Steam penetrates through the bottom layer and is retained in the vapor-permeable layer. Some of the steam passes through upper layer and insulation in environment, ensuring the “breathing” properties of the roof. The material is easy to use and is available in rolls 1.5 m wide. OPTIMA is a TechnoNIKOL film whose vapor barrier and strength properties allow it to be used as wind protection in areas with unstable climates.

Vapor barrier for flat roofs

TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier for flat roofing is a three-layer polymer material, all layers of which are made of polyethylene. The film has a double effect:

  1. Protects the roof from water penetration from the outside, i.e. from precipitation.
  2. Provides protection for flat roof elements from steam generated indoors.

TechnoNIKOL is laid on concrete surfaces under the insulation or on a corrugated sheet, mounted before laying the thermal insulation. Compared to OPTIMA, this material has greater tensile strength and higher vapor permeability rates with a smaller thickness.

Important! Using a vapor barrier that is not intended for this purpose on flat roofs will not provide the required protection from precipitation and will lead to the destruction of the roof structure.

Technical characteristics of TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier for flat roofs:

  • tensile load along the length and width 160 and 170 N/5 cm;
  • thickness – 0.12;
  • water resistance – >1 m water. pillar;
  • average resistance to UV rays.

A three-layer membrane for flat roofs can be used in private low-rise construction, in the construction of high-rise buildings, and buildings made of quickly erected structures.

Reinforced vapor barrier

Technonikol reinforced vapor barrier film, the technical characteristics of which significantly exceed conventional films for pitched and flat roofs, consists of three layers. The main layer is a reinforcing mesh made of durable polyethylene strips. This reinforced layer Covered with laminated polyethylene on both sides. Reinforcement provides the material increased stability, and lamination – high vapor permeability.

  • tensile load along the length and width is 250 and 160 N/5 cm;
  • vapor permeability – 1.1 Gy/(m/day);
  • use at temperatures from -40 to +70 degrees

The material is produced in the form of dense rolls of 1.5x50 m. Reinforced film is strong, durable, and not susceptible to mold, rot, or corrosion. Designed for installing a vapor barrier layer for attics, mansards, sloping and flat roofs. Due to its high strength and heat-resistant characteristics, the membrane can be used in external insulation systems. The reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene helps retain heat, acting as an additional heat insulator, and layers of polyethylene retain condensation, preventing it from penetrating inside the insulation.

Important! When calculating the roof load, it is necessary to take into account that specific gravity reinforced film significantly exceeds the weight of conventional three-layer films. In some cases, to reduce the load on the roof, reinforced vapor barrier should be abandoned.

Reinforced film can be used with all types of insulation: fiber, foam and polystyrene foam. The manufacturer recommends combining it with insulation own production based on polystyrene, produced under the Technoplex brand.

A type of reinforced vapor barrier is windproof film Svitap 110 D, designed to protect surfaces from dust and moisture. This material is used in industrial construction and for the construction of small and multi-storey buildings in special climatic zones. Windproof reinforced vapor barrier can only be used for ventilated flat, pitched roofs or as a waterproofing material when constructing ventilated facades.

Advantages and disadvantages of materials

The advantages include:

  • high tensile and tensile strength;
  • does not rot, prevents the formation of mold and mildew;
  • high rates of vapor permeability and water resistance;
  • fire safety, the film does not support combustion;
  • possibility of use in the Russian climate;
  • compliance with the standards of the Russian Federation and the Customs Union;
  • affordable prices.

The disadvantage of TechnoNIKOL polymer insulation is considered to be the low resistance to sunlight of most types of films. The rolled material should be covered as quickly as possible with the next layer of roofing or insulating “pie” in order to be minimally exposed to UV rays.

The affordable cost of TechnoNIKOL is the reason for its popularity among private developers and construction companies. Prices different kinds films from the manufacturer are presented in the table below. Depending on the region and specific supplier, prices may vary.

Installation of vapor barrier TechnoNIKOL

Vapor barrier can be installed in three options:

  1. When installing internal insulation walls or roof, on the inside of the insulation under finishing premises.
  2. As a vapor barrier layer in uninsulated attics.
  3. During installation external system insulation of walls, residential attics, ceilings.

In each case, installation will have its own characteristics, which we will discuss in more detail.

Vapor barrier in the internal insulation system

In this case, TechnoNIKOL is located on the inside of the insulation in the form of vertical or horizontal stripes. Fastening is carried out directly to the insulation or to a wooden slatted frame using a construction stapler with medium-sized staples, as well as using dowel-nails made of galvanized sheet metal with a wide “mushroom” hat. The strips of material are hermetically glued together mounting tape.

The outer strips must be inserted 20-30 cm behind the insulated surface and thoroughly sealed. Wooden or metal slats are installed on top if the room will be finished with siding, drywall, cork panels.

Important! Between interior decoration and vapor barrier layer a ventilation gap of at least 3 cm must be provided.

All joints must be sealed, otherwise the vapor barrier will not perform its function: condensation will penetrate into the insulation layer, it will lose its thermal insulation properties and the walls will become damp.

Vapor barrier in uninsulated roofs

TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier film is rolled out on the rafters and secured using dowel-nails or construction staples. Strips of material are laid overlapping, starting from the eaves to the ridge of the roof. The overlap of the strips horizontally should be at least 15 cm, and vertically - 20 cm, while the vertical joints should be located on the rafters.

Important! The formation of joints, creases, and sagging on the film is unacceptable, because this promotes moisture accumulation.

Accumulated moisture must be removed along the lower edges of the film into drainage gutters. A frame made of wooden slats and then the final finishing.

Vapor barrier in external insulation system

TechnoNIKOL reinforced vapor barrier, the technical characteristics of which allow it to be used in external insulation, can be mounted horizontally or vertically on top of the heat-insulating material. Fastening is carried out with staples or dowel-nails. Reinforced film can be attached on either side. The joints must be securely sealed with tape or mounting tape. Joints adjacent to the structure must be additionally sealed using foam or sealant for external use.

When installing a ventilated facade and other types of insulation using TechnoNIKOL films, it is necessary to constantly monitor the integrity of the material, preventing it from breaking.

Vapor barrier film Yutafol N 110 Special

Film Yutafol N 110 Special contains three layers:

Top and bottom layer of polyethylene film;

In the middle there is a reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene strips;

Reinforcement increases strength characteristics, and double-sided lamination with polyethylene creates a powerful vapor barrier, ensuring complete impermeability. The film Yutafol N 110 Special, unlike Silver, contains in its composition a special reagent that promotes self-extinguishing upon ignition. Because of the reagent, the film received flammability class B1 and is classified as a low-flammable product. On the surface of the vapor barrier Yutafol N 110 Special, with a distance of 12 cm from the edge, a black stripe is applied, indicating the recommended amount of overlap on the next layer when laying.

JUTAFOL N 110 SPECIAL three-layer vapor barrier is a 110 g/m² vapor barrier that is designed to create highly effective vapor barrier layers on the inside of thermal insulation. The vapor barrier promotes long-term and proper operation thermal insulation. The vapor barrier must be overlapped and bonded with adhesive tape to subsequent layers. To connect the films, the manufacturer recommends using self-adhesive tape Yutafol SP 1 and SP AL to connect the foil layer.

Yutafol N 110 Special technical characteristics

  • Water column height, mm 14/22
  • UV stabilization is 3 months and requires shelter.

Yutafol N 110 Standard technical specifications

We will say literally two words about this material. The main difference between Yutafol N 110 Standard and the Special series is characterized by the absence of an attenuation reagent. The remaining indicators, characteristics, properties and composition correspond to the series we reviewed above. The roll weight and film density are slightly reduced.

The scope of application coincides with the brand Yutafol N 96 Silver, but this material is denser and provides better tightness and protection. The H 110 Standard series is usually chosen if it is necessary to provide greater strength and insulation characteristics compared to the Silver series. The negative aspect of the film is that it does not have a high fire resistance group.

Vapor barrier film UTAFOL N AL 170 Special

The film Yutafol N AL Special consists of four layers:

Two layers of polyethylene material laminate the mesh;

The third layer in the middle is in the form of a reinforcing mesh, made of strips of polyethylene;

The fourth layer is aluminum foil with a reflective effect;

The reinforcing frame increases strength. An aluminum layer laminated on both sides and foiled with appropriate flooring helps to increase the vapor-tight values. In addition, the foil reflects thermal energy into the room, retaining precious heat in winter.

Aluminum foil is designed to form a highly vapor-resistant layer on the inside of the thermal insulation. Yutafol N AL Special creates a vapor barrier and promotes long-term and proper operation of thermal insulation. Thanks to the built-in reflective aluminum layer, the vapor resistance is significantly increased. Maintaining an airless layer between inside and vapor barrier maintains the high function of the reflective layer.

Yutafol main functions

The membrane guarantees the prolongation of optimal thermal insulation performance in the structures where they were used. Mainly supporting required values process equilibrium diffusion, maintaining thermal resistance and imparting waterproof properties to the structure.

Based on their characteristics, the membranes guarantee the release of the generated steam into external environment premises. Thus, snow or rain blown by wind currents, as well as condensation accumulations, will not fall from the roof onto the laid thermal insulation.

The use of a membrane prevents moisture insulation materials, which has a beneficial effect on their properties. Humidity leads to the destruction of the material and an increase in thermal conductivity. Therefore, films extend guarantee period thermal insulation services. In addition to the fact that the air tightness of the structure increases and heat leakage is reduced.

A common question that can be heard from buyers is: which is better, Izospan or Yutafol. Comparing these membranes, we can definitely say that they have the same purpose. However, it seemed to us that the Izospan material contains more information and installation instructions. However, Izospan is a little more expensive, but who will look at the price when the roof of our home is at stake? Believe me, the rework will be much more expensive.

The Technonikol company is a leading manufacturer of roofing, vapor and waterproofing materials in Russia and the CIS. Factories producing polymer-based vapor barriers are located in Russia, Belarus, Lithuania, Ukraine and the Czech Republic. TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier meets European requirements, quality and safety standards, which allows it to be successfully used for low-rise residential and industrial construction of houses with various insulation systems.

Vapor barrier materials are designed to protect insulation from condensation that forms inside the room. The installation of a roof and wall insulation system is not allowed without the use of a vapor barrier in accordance with SNiP 23-01. Roof vapor barrier prevents the formation of condensation on the materials that make up the roofing “pie,” ensuring the preservation of an optimal microclimate in the house for a long time. Using a vapor barrier prevents the appearance of mold, mildew, and unpleasant odors.

The vapor barrier layer is laid immediately before installation of the thermal insulation material. The choice of vapor barrier material depends on the temperature and humidity conditions in the room, the climate of the region, financial capabilities, roofing and wall materials.

  • for pitched roofs, with the ability to partially transmit steam;
  • for flat roofs, having high strength and elasticity;
  • reinforced, reinforced three-layer film of high strength;
  • universal, suitable for all types of roofs.

Physical and mechanical characteristics of TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier films

Vapor barrier OPTIMA

The peculiarity of this material is excellent vapor permeability and at the same time a high vapor barrier. This is possible thanks to a three-layer membrane, in which the top and bottom layers are made of non-woven polypropylene, and the middle one is a vapor-permeable film. The combination of OPTIMA material with fiber insulation ensures the temperature and humidity in the room as close as possible to that of a log house, creating comfortable conditions for year-round living.

Technical characteristics of OPTIMA vapor barrier:

  • tensile load along the length and width – 160 and 120 N/5 cm;
  • vapor permeability – 5 Gy/(m/day);
  • thickness – 0.3;
  • water resistance – >2 m water. pillar;
  • operation at temperatures from -40 to +85 degrees;
  • high resistance to UV rays.

OPTIMA is a universal material and is used for installing a vapor barrier layer in insulated attics, sloping roofs without insulation, ceilings, external walls with a multilayer structure (ventilated facade), as well as for walls with internal insulation of any type. Steam penetrates through the bottom layer and is retained in the vapor-permeable layer. Part of the steam passes through the top layer and insulation into the environment, providing the “breathing” properties of the roof. The material is easy to use and is available in rolls 1.5 m wide. OPTIMA is a TechnoNIKOL film whose vapor barrier and strength properties allow it to be used as wind protection in areas with unstable climates.

Vapor barrier for pitched roof

Vapor barrier for flat roofs

TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier for flat roofing is a three-layer polymer material, all layers of which are made of polyethylene. The film has a double effect:

  1. Protects the roof from water penetration from the outside, i.e. from precipitation.
  2. Provides protection for flat roof elements from steam generated indoors.

TechnoNIKOL is laid on concrete surfaces under insulation or on a corrugated sheet installed before laying the thermal insulation.

  • tensile load along the length and width 160 and 170 N/5 cm;
  • thickness – 0.12;
  • water resistance – >1 m water. pillar;
  • average resistance to UV rays.

A three-layer membrane for flat roofs can be used in private low-rise construction, in the construction of high-rise buildings, and buildings made of quickly erected structures.

Technonikol reinforced vapor barrier film, the technical characteristics of which significantly exceed conventional films for pitched and flat roofs, consists of three layers. The main layer is a reinforcing mesh made of durable polyethylene strips. This reinforced layer is covered on both sides with laminated polyethylene. Reinforcement provides the material with increased stability, and lamination provides high vapor permeability.

Durable reinforced vapor barrier

Specifications:

  • tensile load along the length and width is 250 and 160 N/5 cm;
  • vapor permeability – 1.1 Gy/(m/day);
  • use at temperatures from -40 to +70 degrees

The material is produced in the form of dense rolls of 1.5x50 m. Reinforced film is strong, durable, and not susceptible to mold, rot, or corrosion. Designed for installing a vapor barrier layer for attics, mansards, sloping and flat roofs. Due to its high strength and heat-resistant characteristics, the membrane can be used in external insulation systems. The reinforcing mesh made of polyethylene helps retain heat, acting as an additional heat insulator, and layers of polyethylene retain condensation, preventing it from penetrating inside the insulation.

Important! When calculating the load on the roof, it is necessary to take into account that the specific weight of the reinforced film significantly exceeds the weight of conventional three-layer films. In some cases, to reduce the load on the roof, reinforced vapor barrier should be abandoned.

Reinforced film can be used with all types of insulation: fiber, foam and polystyrene foam. The manufacturer recommends combining it with insulation of its own production based on polystyrene, produced under the Technoplex brand.

A type of reinforced vapor barrier is the windproof film Svitap 110 D, designed to protect surfaces from dust and humidity. This material is used in industrial construction and for the construction of low- and high-rise buildings in special climatic zones. Windproof reinforced vapor barrier can only be used for ventilated flat, pitched roofs or as a waterproofing material when constructing ventilated facades.

Installation of reinforced vapor barrier for pitched roof

Advantages and disadvantages of materials

The advantages include:

  • high tensile and tensile strength;
  • does not rot, prevents the formation of mold and mildew;
  • high rates of vapor permeability and water resistance;
  • fire safety, the film does not support combustion;
  • possibility of use in the Russian climate;
  • compliance with the standards of the Russian Federation and the Customs Union;

Prices for various types of film from the manufacturer are presented in the table below. Depending on the region and specific supplier, prices may vary.

Installation of vapor barrier TechnoNIKOL

Vapor barrier can be installed in three options:

  1. When installing internal insulation of walls or roofs, on the inside of the insulation under the finishing of the room.
  2. As a vapor barrier layer in uninsulated attics.
  3. When installing external insulation systems for walls, residential attics, and ceilings.

The strips of material are hermetically glued together with mounting tape.

The outer strips must be inserted 20-30 cm behind the insulated surface and thoroughly sealed. Wooden or metal slats are installed on top if the room will be finished with siding, plasterboard, or cork panels.

Important! A ventilation gap of at least 3 cm must be provided between the interior finishing and the vapor barrier layer.

All joints must be sealed, otherwise the vapor barrier will not perform its function: condensation will penetrate into the insulation layer, it will lose its thermal insulation properties and the walls will become damp.

Vapor barrier in non-insulated roofs

TechnoNIKOL vapor barrier film is rolled out on the rafters and secured using dowel-nails or construction staples. Strips of material are laid overlapping, starting from the eaves to the ridge of the roof. The overlap of the strips horizontally should be at least 15 cm, and vertically - 20 cm, while the vertical joints should be located on the rafters.

Important! The formation of joints, creases, and sagging on the film is unacceptable, because this promotes moisture accumulation.

Accumulated moisture must be removed along the lower edges of the film into drainage gutters. A frame of wooden slats is laid on top of the vapor barrier layer, followed by the final finishing.
